I'm one of the In n Out holdouts. They just don't seem that great to me. If you're like me, Smashburger makes a great burger. I will admit that I go for their special Signature Burgers--which are more of a restaurant-level execution versus slap-dash fast food. I finally tried this restaurant. I thought the double smash burger was Excellent. Their smash sauce is unique and delicious. They offer a real smash burger (which I know is hard to believe, since they are a chain). This burger is far superior to The Habit, which I think is not very delicious. The only thing is I found their smash fries to be overly flavored with rosemary. I will instead get their regular fries. Their fountain drink has lots of great options. Friendly service, staff. I've only been to a Smashburger once before, and today's visit reminded me why I haven't returned sooner. No issues with the service at this Manhattan Beach location -- it was near closing time so there wasn't a wait or anything. I tried their classic smash burger and their bacon and brisket burger. Neither of them really stood out to me. I think Shake Shack does this style of smashed burgers better, at about the same price point, and as for the brisket, Arby's does it better for less. I should've paid attention to the 3 star review average. Far too many burger places that are so good / heck a shake shack is like throwing distance from here/ this is a terrible burger. Dry. First, they weren't prepared to open the doors. The soda machine wasn't ready, the containers of ranch weren't ready. Our order sat there and got cold. We had to-go orders and it took 45 minutes, we were the 2nd customers of the day. My coworker made a point of how many ranch dressings that were needed, the girl in the front acted like she couldn't and he was willing to pay. She almost sent us on our way without them. We checked the order, they weren't there, she literally had to fill the cups as our orders got colder and colder. After a lifetime of eating and loving burgers, I've concluded the best burgers are either thicc medium rare patties or smashed burgers. Smashburgers are crispy, tasty, and fantastic. I'm taking time to write a review for the customer service that seems to have negative reviews from previous users. I went in at about 9:20p on a Sunday night and there was an entitled Manhattanite complaining about waiting for 5 minutes. As I quickly walked to the Online Order sign and pick up my food that was ordered at 8:59p this jerk yelled at the lovely staff "Can you help me first, I was here first." Apparently old men don't understand what online orders are. Not only was I picking my order up late to account for any delays, he proceeded to disregard the fact I was in the middle of asking for sauces and screamed, "Since she's taking so long can you help me!" I don't know if he was referring to me asking for condiments or the nice young lady who was helping me cause they were out of the sauces I was asking for. Either way kudos to the Sunday night crew on 6/26 both the two staff behind the counter were working diligently, and the manager handled this a*sshole with such professionalism. Shame on you to the guy who yelled for no reason, his burgers literally came out while I was standing there, and clearly my order was ready before his. Not sure what's going on, but our takeout order last night included French fries that were not their regular French fries. They were thick cut, not well cooked, and soggy. One of the reasons we eat here over other burger joints is because we love their thin, salty, crispy fries. Guessing they ran out of their usual or are having supply issues...? Can't imagine corporate would be thrilled with the decision to use a product that veers from and is inferior to the company norm. As far as wait time, I too have been told in the past that an order would take 45 minutes to be ready. Now knowing that, I ordered in advance and my husband only had to wait 5 minutes once he arrived. So plan ahead I guess? We don't eat here often, maybe one every couple of months, so the timing isn't a big deal for us if we know what we're getting into. As others have mentioned, it seems like they may be having some staffing problems. In the early days of this location things ran smoothly. Now the poor employees always seem overwhelmed. Corporate could stand to beef up pay and hire more people to boost morale. Especially considering my double Turkey burger was $11 on its own! Ordered the mushroom truffle burger, smash tots and a drink. The burger was mediocre but the tots were good. But hard to enjoy any of it when the customer service is rude. The lady who took our order was not nice at all- I asked her to add lettuce and tomato to my burger and my buddy asked for a side of ranch. She ROLLED her eyes at us! They wasted an hour of my time on DoorDash waiting for confirmation. I ended up having to contact DoorDash who contacted Smashburger only to be told they are not confirming orders.
