We came here for a quick outside bite to eat. We didn't realize that this place had lots of other locations, globally even. It was a very nice inside are, but the outdoor patio was calling our name. We ordered a few drinks and some small plates. I ordered the classic split pea soup, and then my parents ordered spinach and a small salad. The bread that came to our table was to die for! Steaks are absolutely excellent- melt in your mouth tender, with explosions of sweet fattiness from the perfectly seared edges of the NY Striploin. Delicious. Filet mignon and crab cake were really good too, and we enjoyed the warm Parker house roll and sweet butter at the start of the meal. Servers were all perfectly pleasant but it did take a while for us to get our food (over half hour?) But otherwise really pleasant and they comped us a gigantic chocolate cake slice dessert (enough for the four of us to share with a good sized leftover to take home) since we were celebrating a birthday. read more

I always have a hard time writing a review for chain steakhouses - I see the appeal in consistency, especially if I'm visiting a new city and feeling too lazy to check out something new, and the beauty of a steakhouse menu is that it's big enough to encompass something for everyone, including non-meat eaters. Plus, I'm a fan of the general steakhouse ambiance - you have the bar area if you want to get a little noisier, and then you have the tables for quieter conversations. All that said, I thought S&W was just okay. I'll preface by saying I don't really enjoy red meat and can't tell the difference between a $50 cut versus a $200 one, so I thought my husband's steak was pretty tender/buttery/all the meat adjectives. But he and our other friend concluded the NY strip was all right, not worth the price tag. My Caesar was pretty good, except the croutons were stale and tasted straight out of a bag. Jumbo shrimp cocktail was solid, nothing to write home about. For the sides, my favorite was the truffle mac & cheese. The asparagus was a sad, mushy, overcooked heap, and you can definitely find crispier fries in the city. We ordered the absolute behemoth of the chocolate cake slice. It was so monstrous, so "AMURICA," that when the waitress was carrying it towards us, everyone nearby turned to gawk. The four of us, after a full meal, put maybe a minor dent in the thing. We had to take the rest home in one of those takeout containers reserved for rotisserie chickens. My top three of the meal: 1. The free Parker house rolls; very hard not to fill up on these before the meal. 2. Truffle mac n cheese (though I do wish they used the corkscrew instead of the elbow). 3. Chocolate cake. Service was pretty attentive; our waitress came by often to see how we were doing. I grabbed a spot in a garage a few blocks away on Franklin for $9 on SpotHero, but, depending on which day you go, you can always try for a 2-hour meter spot on one of the streets. read more

Not great for brunch or Dine Out Boston unfortunately. I went over the weekend and their Dine Out Boston menu is pretty bad considering the lettuce issues right now. A smart restaurant would add an extra option to their menu for those who don't want to eat lettuce right now or cold soup/Gazpacho. We ordered the Filet Mignon Medium Rare and unfortunately it came basically rare, totally raw and cold on the inside as if it had just been taken out of the fridge. For such a great steakhouse it was shocking. How the chef thought that was Medium Rare is beyond me, especially considering it wasn't crowded at all. Overall very disappointing to have to send a steak back twice at a steakhouse. The first time they just grilled it a few more minutes but it was still raw on the inside so we had to send it back twice to get it cooked to Medium Rare. They were nice enough to throw in their cake for free but overall it makes me very wary of going again considering all the other options nearby. read more

Came in to have a nice lunch today, but left unimpressed with our experience. My friends and I are in our early twenties, and I understand that serving a younger crowd comes with stereotypes about how much money will be spent, tipped, etc... but I felt as if our server had neglected our table and was completely uninterested. This was our first time dining here, so we were unsure if the pull apart bread we saw being delivered to each table was complimentary or not, as we did not receive any. Then when placing our order, our server was confused that we wanted to order the entrees, then additionally throw in a of couple side dishes and appetizers to share. I told her it can all come out at the same time. She genuinely did not understand, so I just said to do whatever is easiest. She came to briefly check on us during the meal, but turned away before we could even get the words out to ask about the bread (we were really interested in it because it looked delicious). The food was good and came out quick. We enjoyed our meals and sides. Once finished eating, the manager, not the server, came over to clear our plates, get us get us a togo box and bag, and bring us the bread that should have been delivered from the beginning, after we asked what it was. I don't know if this is regular service from the wait staff here but it felt as if she was dismissing us because we were a younger group. It wasn't a big deal, just felt intentional. I did have a small beetle crawl onto my water glass and handed it over to be disposed of, and the manager discounted part of our bill because of it, which he did not have to do, but we greatly appreciated as it was just another small thing on top of the odd experience we were having. He paid us out, we still tipped her 22% and left. Overall, our server was never blatantly rude, but it was behavior that we each noticed immediately and couldn't enjoy the rest of our time there as much as we hoped. I would come back again for the food but would hope not all the servers treat their younger guests the same. read more

We've been here twice now both for dine out Boston! We had 2 different experiences 1st time (March 2025) - we went for dine out Boston and it was awesome! The service was amazing and the food was so good. The portions were massive- there was no need to get sides..even though we did. And then we had plenty of leftovers. 2nd time (August 2025) - after an amazing first experience, we decided to go back. We had a reservation for outside and were seated quickly. The patio is really nice on a good summer day- the sun isn't in your eyes and it's a great spot. Our drinks took a little bit to come this time, but that was not a big deal at all. We ordered off of the dine out menu once again- I got the burrata which was delicious! My boyfriend got the pea soup which he loved and was a hefty size! We also ordered the jumbo shrimp for our appetizer, and confirmed we wanted 4 pieces because apparently it only has 3. Turns out it didn't matter- because our shrimp never showed up! We were pretty bummed as we were really looking forward to it. We expected it to come before our dine out apps or before our entrees- and to our surprise our entrees came pretty quickly after we finished the apps but no shrimp. The entrees itself- the last time we were here the food was absolutely amazing and we were so excited to see what they came up with this time. My boyfriend got the steak- he said it was better done last time (he gets medium rare) and this time it was nowhere near last times steak. I got the salmon this time and got the chicken last time. The salmon was ok. It honestly could have used a lot more flavor- it was kind of like salmon in a chicken stock? It was missing something and tasted kind of bland. The portions were great though and we got the creamed spinach on the side which was delicious. Good thing we got the creamed spinach- because they forgot our dine out sides! We were told our meals would come with asparagus and potatoes (as they did last time)....like the shrimp they failed to appear. Finally we both got the coconut cream cake. The slice is huge and the cake is delicious- we ended up having to take it home. Overall our first experience was 5/5, and this past one was 3/5. We were disappointed as we had high expectations from our first visit. Hopefully that can change in the future! read more

We had a fantastic experience at Smith & Wollensky in Boston. The location is perfect--right next to the Boston Tea Party Museum--giving the whole visit a bit of historic charm before you even sit down. The highlight, though, was the coffee-chocolate crusted filet. It was absolutely incredible: rich, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Don't bother trying to get in. I went to S&W on a quiet Sunday at about 3pm. Despite being an empty restaurant, I was told that there was "too much going on" for S&W to seat me. I am the sort of customer who is accustomed to restaurants "finding a table for me" no matter how busy, so I was shocked by S&W's indifference to a paying patron. I've eaten at every steakhouse in Boston, but S&W is truly Boston's most exclusive. Unless one is a billionaire, it appears one shouldn't bother. There are better options in the area--Mooo particularly comes to mind. read more

Upscale dining option near the waterfront. We were a big group of 10 people and were seated in a separate room. The general area near the bar can be noisy, so we appreciated the inner room. I came here for dinner on a Tuesday night without a reservation and didn't have to wait. Parking can be tricky since it's close to seaport, but I parked at the Atlantic Wharf garage which is $12 after 5pm which is right next to the restaurant. We got some free bread which was just okay. We ordered the angry shrimp as an appetizer which was good, but it only came with 3 pieces. For our main course, we ordered the surf and turf for two which comes with an 18 oz steak and 2 lobster tails and a Caesar salad. The food came out at a reasonable time, but it was unfortunately lukewarm as if it had been sitting out for a while so we had to eat it quickly before it got cold. The food itself was good, the steak was already cut into pieces, and it was tender and juicy. The lobster tails were tasty and came with hot butter that was placed under a fire to keep it warm. The service was subpar for a nice steak restaurant. Our waiter wasn't that welcoming and didn't seem like he wanted to serve us. He opened with a distasteful remark and was only present to take our food order and bring out the check. S&W does have an app that you can download to get points for eating here. Overall, there are better steakhouses around Boston so I won't be back. read more

Our reservation was scheduled for 8:00 PM, yet we did not receive our dinner until approximately 11:30 PM. Throughout the evening, we were given several explanations for the delays, including that there were not enough glasses available to seat us, which resulted in us waiting nearly 30 minutes before being seated. We were also told that the kitchen was behind and that a private event had disrupted the flow of the evening. Management came to our table only once to apologize and then left the staff to handle the numerous complaints from customers. We were clearly not the only family affected by the delays. In fact, one family became so frustrated that they left without paying for their wine and appetizers. Unfortunately, this was our first visit to a Smith & Wollensky restaurant, and it will most likely be our last. I would like to acknowledge one positive aspect of the evening: our server, Voula, was excellent. She did her best to accommodate us and kept us informed throughout the night despite the circumstances. I went to Smith & Wollensky for a friend's birthday lunch. We all got the same entree, filet mignon, & shared a lobster mac & cheese. The steak was not bad; wasn't memorable to be honest. The mac & cheese was also just all right. Nothing crazy. I think that Smith & Wollensky does have better food than some other expensive steakhouse restaurants in Boston, but at the same time, my experience here was just okay. Over 30 minutes after we ordered the bartender comes up with the news you expect to hear within 5 minutes of ordering. Had to reorder and wait an additional 30 minutes but on the bright side we finally got average service because of it. Food was ok, except the runny cream spinach that had the consistently of best western scrambled eggs on a buffet. If you're looking for a nice steak house go some where else. Also excellent was their martini...very fresh olives and just the right amount of vermouth...dry, but not burning. Atmosphere was wonderful...very comfortable booth. Took our 11y/o daughter out for a fancy Valentine's Day dinner. Food was good nothing over the top for steak dinners(other than the price). The staff was very friendly, attentive and nice. There was a little incident with someone who might've had a little too much to drink and def caused a minor disturbance, however the staff quickly acted and took care of everything, including us. I went here for a work lunch and the Wollensky salad with tenderloin tips was so good! It comes with big chunks of bacon and potato croutons which are basically small pieces of fries. It was one of the best salads I've ever had. The service was great as well. For dessert we ordered the warm cookie skillet and it was a delicious dessert. I could have eaten way more of that steak, that's how good it was! When we came back for lunch, we got the caesar (good), followed by the filet mignon, which wasn't as good as the porterhouse, but it was definitely delicious! Would absolutely recommend this! The food was outstanding, and I highly recommend the ribeye, the steak tartare appetizer, and the truffle mac and cheese. We ordered Cabernet wine, a peach sparkling, crab cake, vanilla bean creme brûlée and a wagyu porterhouse for 2. Everything was delicious especially the 2 different cuts for the wagyu that was on the platter (I cant remember what kind of cuts they were). The platter was definitely filling. Our waitress I think her name was Christin, she was delightful and sweet. Her energy lit up the night for us as well lol, she's funny.
