I wish there was a way to give 3.5 stars. This deli has always been a go to for me. They make really good sandwiches which are reasonably priced and offer a wide range of other goodies. My main complaint here is that there have been multiple times where I order some food and notice that the deli clerks handle money and don't change their gloves after doing so... which kindve defeats the purpose IMO and is nasty. read more

The breakfast food I have ordered so far has been pretty good and the blue crumb muffin is amazing. I did not find them to be particularly expensive either. I will be happy to try them out for lunch as well. read more

Their food is great- all kinds of salads and sandwiches and paninis. They people there are nice. But it does get super crowded during lunchtime. It is very pricey. I hate when I call and order something and they say to pick it up 45 minutes to an hour.....but if I go there it will be a much shorter wait. They did screw up a catering order two years ago for me, but they fixed it in the end. Even with those negatives, it is still really good and I go there often. In fact, they are going to cater my son's birthday party! My husband saw Dina Lohan here last summer! haha. read more

In my opinion, this is the best deli I've come across on Long Island. The food is always fresh and the customer service is A++. It doesn't matter if you go with a hero, wrap, salad, soup, etc., you'll be happy with your decision. There is also seating inside if you want to enjoy your food there. Overpriced, I once order some food paid for it, then I felt something was wrong with what I was charge, once back inside the deli I approach who seems to be the manager, at that moment the first guy that took my order approached him also and told him that he did overcharge me, now if u knew why did u let me walk out the door? Awesome deli! I'm in town from the MD/DC area. I was dropping a relative off in Merrick and decided to try this spot out after seeing it's reviews on yelp. I was not disappointed. There were a couple people in front of me but the wait was short and the service was excellent. I was hungry so I ended up ordering breakfast (served until 2PM) and lunch. The bacon, egg white and cheese on a roll was good and the turkey ruben, even better. I have family in Baldwin so I'll definitely be back! read more

I am a big fan of sandwiches, and I am a big fan of Smith Street Deli. They have never once gotten an order wrong, the food is delicious, the staff is extremely pleasant/friendly, the prices are fair. What more could you want from a deli? They do get a bit busy sometimes, but the staff keeps the line down pretty quickly. read more

I would personally say this is one of the best delis in a 10 mile radius from where I live. Great food, quick service for a place that's packed at all hours throughout the day but a little expensive. Wide variety of choices, cold cuts are always something I get but they're great, the breakfast sandwiches are spectacular always made perfectly and enough to fill you up, but make sure to ask for your bacon well done sometimes it's a little undercooked, all around great food and friendly place. read more

The best deli sandwiches in Merrick, hands down. The employees are super friendly and there is frequently a line out the door, especially on nice days when folks grab lunch on the way to the beach. My favorites are the South of the Border (roast beef, white jalapeño cheese and BBQ sauce), Wild Turkey (turkey, slaw, Swiss, 1000 island dressing) and the Lords of Flatbush (Salami, Bologna, mustard). These sandwiches are not groundbreaking or unusual in makeup. They work some sort of ingredient ratio magic resulting in fantastic creations. The fresh bread helps as well. read more

I walked in today for the first time. Its by far the cleanest deli I have seen on Long Island! The food looked so fresh and the staff was very kind, courteous, and cheerful. This is my favorite deli. I have been coming here for years. My order always comes out correct and they've got great people behind the counter. My parents like to complain about the little extra time and money spent here (time waiting on line and I guess it's slightly pricier) but they still choose Smith Street over any other deli in the area. It's not uncommon for the line to be at the door but it's worth the wait. They work really hard to get orders out as fast as possible. Always fresh, always spotless (they are seriously always cleaning). Recommend to everyone and I can't wait for the second location to open this spring. I will be a customer forever. read more

I love this deli. I've never had a bad experience like some of the other reviews here but I'm sure things happen. Their egg sandwiches are awesome. The lunch sandwiches are very good too but I normally go for breakfast. The prices are a little higher than normal but if the food is good it's worth it. Have not had any negative experiences with the staff too they all seem to be pretty decent people. Parking can be an issue depending on the time you go but there is street parking as long as commercial trucks aren't taking up a lot of room. Keep it up Smith Street! read more

Smith St. Deli is great. I think they have some of the best food on Long Island. If you are a foodie you will appreciate the food here. The breakfast sandwiches are great. They make great pancakes. The salads, wraps, specialty sandwiches and deli items taste great too. Two of my favorites are the veggie quinoa salad and the veggie tuna. The prices are average for what you would expect for deli's on Long Island. I see many construction workers, landscapers, EMT's and police officers stopping by because they know the food here is delicious. Build it and they will come :) read more

I understand that delis get busy in peak hours, but as someone who has only been here a few times since I'm new to the area, I haven't yet figured out the "counter culture." Today I walked in and grabbed a wrap from the cold case. Right after I turned around to make my way to the counter, I heard someone ask "who's next?" Having been to delis where folks who are ready to ring up can identify themselves to pay for their stuff and move out, I told the guy I was ready to check out. He then made me feel like an asshole by reprimanding me for standing among a small line of people who needed to place their orders. So - without any direction - I walked to another side of the counter where people were waiting for their orders - and then was reprimanded a second time as I was being cashed out. Sorry.... I'm a big fan of friendly service, even if I made a small faux pax in where I happened to be standing. I will not be back. read more
