House salads were fresh and crisp and enjoyed the house made white french dressing. My scallops were well cooked and the au gratin potatoes were a nice balance. Took my parents here for my Dad's birthday - fabulous experience! Was really worried because I'm from out of town and had contacted the restaurant via email to make a reservation (because they're not on Open Table - hint! Hint!). We got there and it was packed, my reservation nowhere in sight. Turns out they had me down for the prior evening. My dad quietly suggested we go elsewhere because we thought it would be a long wait. Within minutes they seated us, and the owner came and apologized for the mixup. Super nice guy - totally earned my respect! "Best prime rib I've ever had!" Per my dad. (I thought it was good too). Chicken Piccata could use more lemon, but was tasty. I read about the au gratin potatoes and they lived up to the hype!!! Happy they had a decent kids menu too! Atmosphere and service were decent, as we were greeted by the manager who asked us to let them know if anything was not to our liking. Sadly, the pasta primavera and the Admirals platter both failed to impress. The fried food was quite dark due to cooking in well used oil, and the pasta lacked flavor and was limp. So a group of us decided to try the Boathouse this evening after hearing wonderful things. I have to say we were not disappointed! The staff was friendly and very helpful. We met the owner when he stopped by our table to check on us and most importantly the food was amazing!! The fish and chips was perfectly cooked. Crispy and not a hint of grease. The scallops were amazing with the bacon marmalade and ginger sauce. If you're a fan of Salmon you won't be sad it was cooked wonderfully and the Chicken Oscar was super. Portion size was perfect, the house white French dressing is unique and the clam chowder is awesome. We even had room for dessert. We got a variety at the table so we could all taste. The Highlander Grog cake, white chocolate raspberry cheesecake, and cherry creame brûlée were all the perfect ending. You don't want to miss this local treasure. read more

We were visiting family in Troy. What a surprise to find this nice restaurant in this small town. I had the scallops and would definitely order them again. My husband ordered the fish and chips and they were crispy and not greasy - he loved it. Our companions ordered the shrimp scampi and the ribeye (with blue cheese) - both really liked their meals. I was so excited to try this place, but we were rather disappointed. Pros: Beautiful location & the decor inside was really nicely done. The owner came around and introduced himself, which was a nice touch. Cons: 1. They were disorganized & couldn't find our reservation. 2. The menu, plating style, captain's outfit, & music were terribly outdated and like walking back in time. We joked that we felt like we were on an old episode of the Love Boat. Menu items included things like beer cheese fondue, stuffed mushrooms, items prepared Oscar style, rice pilaf, & asparagus with hollandaise sauce. Just things you saw on menus 20+ years ago. 3. Server was not knowledgeable about menu or food preparations, but they are all new, so I can let that go. 4. We ordered scallops & salmon. The food was okay, but not great. Salmon & asparagus were overcooked. Scallops were okay. The bacon jam was the highlight of the evening. In short, if you really miss old throw-back menu items and are okay with average food, you'll like this place. I would absolutely love to tell my fellow Yelpers about my dining experience at the Boathouse, but I never actually got far enough in it to actually eat. We made an 8 o'clock reservation, but after a few minutes we went ahead and called to move that up to 7:30. At this point it was 6:30. A gentleman possibly named named Aaron(?) told us it shouldn't be a problem... Well, apparently it was. We arrived at 7:15 for our reservation and proceeded to wait... and wait... and wait. We watched other people get huffy over their 45+ minute waits and thought "why bother taking reservations if you can't fulfill them in a timely manner?" I still have no answer here. After waiting over a half hour for our drinks due to a computer problem, we then waited over 45 for our table. Finally, after the small "waiting corral" was empty of all other hungry guests besides us, we finally asked a THIRD time about how long it was going to be. We were greeted with the news that we would be seated for our 8 o'clock reservation shortly. Brakes screeched, records skipped, and we explained that we in fact had a 7:30 reservation, supposedly changed... at that point enough was enough and we did not stay, but went down to La Fiesta and had a wonderful meal right away. So, here's my advice to the Boathouse: 1. don't bother with reservations if you aren't going to bother to keep accurate track of them or make them affect the wait. We were absolutely not the only people who had to wait a ridiculous amount of time for our "reservation". 2. Don't tell people who ask you how long that "it will be just a few minutes" or "we're cleaning you a table right now" because we were told both even though we were apparently there at the wrong time for our reservation. 3. If you plan to go to the Boathouse, pack a snack for the wait (unless you know some guy there named Larry because as we witnessed, that will get you in right away). read more

Inside was very noisy for dinner and a drunk loud bar patron and his equally drunk and loud wife kept wandering into the dining area disrupting the patrons who were there for a dining experience. Felt the management should have addressed this as it was obviously disruptive to those who were there to eat without having Otis the town drunk and his wife standing in the middle of the room guffawing. The service was average. No offers for beverage refills - had to ask. Also, our server forgot to bring the cole slaw that came with my fish and chips. The fries were very good but the fish breading tasted bland. Shrimp cocktail was good. The others at my table were very pleased with the scallops and their sides. The desserts were disappointing - they looked amazing but tasted stale and our cake was dry. One in my party ordered a medium rare steak that was cooked medium. Poor service. Ticket "was lost" and had an extremely long wait from salad course to entrees. My husband's side was cold and the risotto side I ordered was served after the entrees since it was not ready yet. Risotto was under cooked when it did arrive. The owner came and sat with us to say he was sorry for the long wait time and asked if our food was good. When I mentioned that the risotto was under cooked he said thank you and got up and walked away. Went for Sunday Brunch with a large party. Brunch buffet was average at best. Would not recommend, there's a Big Boy down the road. Save time and money. Pro Cheap mimosas Quickly refilled buffet Omelette station Buttermilk fried chicken!! Con Omelette station had kale, but no ham. I can't be the only person to eat a ham and cheese omelette, can I ? Seems like quite a bit of the items are not made from scratch. Logistics were horrible, buffet tucked into a small corner room, thus not giving servers room to refill steam tables without elbowing between customers. Buffet line stretched down a side hall blocking bathroom access. Many items on buffet out regularly. Priced as high end with white tablecloths, but staff who expect you to move out of their way while walking between tables. They automatically add an 18% tip for parties of 6 or more. Second, while waiting at the bar, bartender right in front of me ignored me while waiting on others and finally the lady next to me when her drink was delivered took pity on me and said the bartender, "this lady would like a drink also". I had waited 20 minutes while the bartender took care of other walk up customers. He obliged reluctantly and then when time to pay I had to ask firmly to pay for the drink. NOTE: the bar only seated6 people. Very small space. Food was okay, nothing great. Table side service equally deplorable. Server friendly. But the service for a table of 4 was not good at all. It was my moms birthday. We wanted someplace different that we hadn't been to, a new experience. There were 6 of us total. The two tables put together was cramped and we were elbow to elbow. I got shrimp cocktail, which was good. Four of us ordered filet mignon, medium, with baked potatoes. Every filet came slightly charred on the outside, barely, if at all, pink on the inside. In other words, pretty much well done. The waitress apologized and took our plates back, so we then had to wait, again, for our meals. Our steaks came back out, medium done. Good right? Wrong. They brought our steaks back out WITHOUT the baked potatoes. We ran out of baked potatoes said the waitress. What happened to the baked potatoes that were on our plates, we asked? We threw them away! So, no baked potatoes on a weekday, around 6pm. We were offered au gratin potatoes. They were HORRIBLE, inedible. So, yep, filet mignon, by itself! Yummy. The guy who brought out our cake did not improve the situation any. He was not friendly, and barely offered a smile. He acted like it was a bother to cut the cake. Trust me bud, we didn't request your presence. We get our bills and nothing was taken off nor did we request anything taken off. We will never go back of course, nor would any of us recommend this place. It was a shockingly bad dining experience and the only thing that made it momentarily better was the delicious birthday cake from THE CAKERY. read more

First...food was great. Everyone in our party of six loved their salad, entree, and dessert. BUT they need to resolve the reservation issues. There were three parties ahead of us who did NOT have reservations. We did. We were given the option of being seated right away or waiting ???????? We asked to be seated and we STILL had to wait for the three parties without reservations to be seated. It was all so badly done. I made the reservation in my name. The owner, Larry, came over and shook my husband's hand and was just too too jovial with him and never even spoke to me or acknowledged me in any way. Very off-putting behavior. We walked into a quaint and warm atmosphere with friendly staff to greet us. The food was created masterfully with attention to detail. Warm rolls were served while we waited for our entree. We had the best fish and chips around; crunchy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside. Reasonable prices for a very special meal in a special place.
