Took my car here the other day to get smogged. There was a car before me but it didn't take them long before he was done. While I was waiting about 3 other cars came in, but I parked in the lot and they parked right in front. But the guy there was super nice and made them move because I was next. The price was better than most smog places I've gone to (roughly $90), where as here I only had to pay $60 (included a $2 tip) for being awesome. It only took them about 5-10 minutes and they were done. Since they're star certified they sent it straight to the DMV for me. Definitely a spot to come back with my other car next year. read more

Last month I needed a bi-annual smog check done for my renewal. I have an older (2000 Toyota) vehicle and always worry about this process. I searched online for local "star test only" places but found their rates varied greatly. Some test centers only quoted "non star" tests, but didn't mention hidden extras like "star fee", "certification", or other gotchas. The first two places in San Jose and Sunnyvale ended up wanting over $90 for my check in person, after being tricked by online adverts showing "deals" with misleading or hidden disclaimers. The third shop on Stevens Creek wanted $115! HUH?! After more searching for a reasonable price, I stopped by this place on West San Carlos St. Thankfully I was quoted exactly what was advertised, under $40 for the star test + $8 certificate fee if check passes. Unfortunately, my car DID NOT pass. The tech showed me the problem. My air intake hose was in bad shape and had holes in it. It was obvious, as the rubber hose was worn and ripped in multiple places. Due to this my car was burning more gas than it should, and improper airflow. Obviously I wouldn't pass smog without replacing this part. Although I still had to pay for the smog test, I was told a re-test was free and valid for the next 30 days after I had repairs done. Given my car is 23 years old, finding the exact hose I needed was quite a challenge. In the meantime, my friend attempted a "fix" by sealing the existing hose with a little tape. We thought it would rectify the airflow problem to pass smog. I brought my car back to this shop to get my free re-test. Right away the test tech noticed the "repair" to the air hose and told me it wasn't allowed by the state. I was told it's considered "tampering" of emissions, and he could not re-test if any of those parts were taped, glued, or otherwise modified to pass smog.... I WAS NOT HAPPY! Eventually I was able to find a "new" hose that would fit, and have it installed. My friend also suggested another shop that would re-test my car and not be aware of "work" done for that particular part. Thankfully, I finally passed smog, although it was done at another place. I'd recommend this test center if you are confident you'll not face issues like I did. I really can't blame them for telling me they won't re-test unless "proper" repairs were done, and no taped or glue to pass smog. That said, the rate for the test was among the lowest I was able to find. read more

I went there on a Saturday, to smog my out-of-state car. My first impression was that the facility was clean, with ample parking, unlike many others I've been to before. The place has two test bays, and Marco, the tech there, apart from being very personable, he was also very efficient, multitasking between two cars at the same time, and getting everyone in and out in short order. This family owned business is a rare gem of a find for me. Staff (owner/family members) are very professional, friendly and personable. Been to this location a couple of times now. First time was a couple of years ago -- my car had a cracked hose that caused the car to fail the visual inspection. Was able to retest for free after getting it fixed within 30 days. Went again today. Super fast service, big enough lot where you aren't blocking traffic or a sidewalk trying to wait in line. With a coupon, was able to get my 2000 4 Runner smogged for $48 including the certificate which is pretty good value. Might be able to get it done slightly cheaper elsewhere but will likely continue to bring it here. read more
