My friend and I showed up at about 12:30 on a Thursday afternoon for lunch. We were told there was a 45 minute wait, which thankfully we decided to do! Every category hit 5 stars in our experience! My friend had Shrimp Scampi and I had Beef Stroganoff; both were out of this world delicious! The portions were huge, but unfortunately, we weren't going to be going home so we couldn't take our leftovers with us... This restaurant has been in business since 1946 and it's no wonder why. We were a group of 12 with a 5:15 reservation. We had to be out by 6:40 for theater tickets. They honored the reservation which is a plus. The restaurant is straight out of the 1950s with lots of leatherette booths in multiple rooms. Lots of celebrity pictures from that era (Bob Hope, Dick Van Dyke, etc). The menu is typical steak house. I ordered rib eye steak medium rare ($40) and my wife ordered the tri-tip ($40). My steak came out medium, not medium rare, and very chewy. Normally I would send it back when done wrong but when you are with a large party, not an option. My wife's trip-tip was smothered with BBQ sauce. I couldn't tell if the meat was flavorful or not because it was so buried in the sauce. They still have the garlic bread at $8 a basket. Still meh. The food didn't hit the table till 6:25. Just a bit on the slow side. Because of our time restraint, it ended up being a pricey meal to go. I was here 4 years ago. Things didn't get any better. The Smoke House is great for many reasons. The atmosphere, food, service, and history are just a few. I came in here for a nice holiday dinner with my wife and friends. We got a booth in the main room which was nice give a good view of the nostalgic décor and photos on the walls. We started at the bar for pre dinner drinks which were very good. Shortly our table was ready ahead of reservation, so we headed over to the booth. We ordered up some of the famous garlic bread..... ahhhmazing! I could have just eaten that all night, but had to save room for the main course! I split a dinner salad which was plenty for two people. I had to go with the Smokehouse Cut Prime Rib. It's a thinker cut from the regular, about 12oz. It was a nice generous portion but I managed to finish it off. The horseradish wasn't very spicy but added a nice flavor to the prime rib. My wife ordered the Rib Eye for her main course so of course I had to get a taste of that as well. Both were very good in their own way. Cooked well and a very tender cut of beef. Here's a tip, you get 1 side with your dinner but just order something different from your date and you can share it. Believe me there is plenty of food to go around. The sautéed mushrooms were delicate and flavorful. The chef also did a fantastic job on the mashed potatoes; so creamy and light. After dinner we moved back to the bar area tables to watch the live entertainment and dessert. The band was great and lively. A word of caution tho, it is pretty loud as it is a small room so you will have a tough time if you want to hold a conversation while the band is performing. For dessert we ordered a cheesecake and crème brulee. The cheesecake was your standard cheesecake but nice. The crème brulee was really good and a good size dish, enough to share as well. Overall a great night out in old Hollywood setting and a valley classic spot. The parking on the street is limited but there is a valet option for about $11. I hadn't been to The Smokehouse in a few years but I was glad to be back. It definitely hasn't lost its charm or quality. Highly recommend at least once. read more

It's perhaps over twenty years since I last visited the Smoke House Restaurant. Thus last night's visit was nostalgic in so many ways. The mid twentieth century ambiance is still there, albeit considerably faded now and the Warner Brothers executives from the studios across the road don't seem to eat there any more but it was the food that brought back the most poignant memories of the evening. I ordered the house special prime rib which came with steamed vegetables and in my case a side of mushrooms. This immediately transported me back to my teenage boarding school days in England! Really, which other restaurant can one think of where you can still be served slightly salty, mushy and tasteless canned mushrooms, grey roast beef redolent of the flavor of the garlic it was rubbed with but nothing else and the curious texture of shoe insole to go with it. You can probably tell tell that I didn't enjoy boarding school or my visit to the Smoke House. How do places like this still exist in Los Angeles? read more

I called and made a reservation requesting a booth near the stage for our anniversary and celebration of our soon to be born baby girl (I'm 34 weeks pregnant) They went above and beyond. The legendary Hollywood restaurant next to Warner Brothers Studios lived up to its reputation. We were seated in George Clooney's favorite table and the ambiance was amazing with red leather booths, dark wood, and old Hollywood memorabilia. My steak salad with arugula was excellent and the prime rib was mouth-watering and delicious. Their famous garlic cheesy bread was a nice side. The service was classy and impeccable. I was ready to love this place, just for the old school vibe and the classic neon out front alone, but there are some things I think they could do to bring it up a notch or two. When you arrive, a sign at the hostess stand says "be kind" (and it's a bit sad we have to say this to customers nowadays), but the hostesses were so completely flat and seemingly disinterested that it was a strange juxtaposition. I wonder if they also need that sign on the inside of the stand, so they can see it. The bar atmosphere definitely looked more fun than the dining rooms, a little more sparkle that the dinning rooms lacked, but we didn't request ahead and it was full. Our waiter "S-CHRSTN" was as excellent as can be and so were the bussers. Service was 5-star. Wine options were attractive and reasonably priced. Nice pours! The famous cheesy bread was decent. I liked the crusty top, but the bread itself was a bit doughy and dense, rather than light and crunchy. The Caesar was decent, but the more mayo-y kind, rather than tasting any anchovy. My prime rib was good and so was my friend's salmon, so great that our main proteins were on target. But my stuffed potato was bland yet also ruined by some odd flavor, that possibly was smoked paprika? I recall it was supposed to be stuffed with butter, cheese, and possibly bacon, but didn't notice or taste those ingredients. I wished I would have asked for a plain baked potato with butter. The veggies were too undercooked for my liking and bland. It might be one of the few times I left veggies and potatoes on my plate. My friend's mashed potatoes were very blah and they pipe them in a circle around the plate which looks interesting, but causes them to cool quickly. Lava cake decent. All in all, just okay. It was after the lunch rush when we visited so the timing was perfect. The interior was similar to a speakeasy with red leather and dark wood booths lining the walls of the restaurant. We started with a couple cocktails and ordered their signature cheese bread. The garlic cheese bread is tasty. The bread has a light crust and it was covered with cheese. Cooked to a golden brown. The Crab Stuffed Mushrooms were juicy and succulent. It's been awhile since we've had lump crabmeat so I savored each bite. Just the right amount of sauce to compliment the dish, too. We decided that maybe we should hold off on finishing the mushrooms until we receive our entrees. We ordered the Prime Rib and the Rib Eye Steak. Absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. The horseradish with the Prime Rib just melts in your mouth. My Rib Eye was topped with an onion ring and was served with creamed spinach. I also ordered a side of mushrooms and onions to smother and cover my steak. I still ate them separately because they were tasty and caramelized - just as I like them. I came for the history... the vibe that is truly felt in the structure of what helped build the entertainment industry. The pictures of icons on the wall help to tell a story that whispers so slightly above the din of diners sitting in the booths and tables of today. To sit here at night would be interesting and just listen to what stories may come from the walls. The food on the website looked spectacular. A touch of the eras gone by and what dishes were popular during the important meetings and the cocktails that were sipped too. Service that would be personable and helpful in your selection. Individuals that wanted to hold conversations with you. Makes for a perfect evening. All what you would expect from an iconic place such as this. Hitting two out of three is not bad. Staff is wonderful and the ambiance is great. Just what I wanted. The food, not so much. The crab mushrooms were cold. - they were sent back. The veggies on the plate for the main course of chateaubriand were cold. The chateaubriand is no longer carved table side - which was very disheartening. To pick an iconic restaurant and a dish I have always wanted to try because of the "fancy" dining experience it would lend, fell extremely hard. It was nothing like the photo, inconsistent cook on what is basically tournedos of beef... for two people. I was very sad. The pork chop was dry, as though it was sitting around for a while under the heat lamps. It was sent back. The cheese garlic bread was really good as were the fried pickles and grilled artichoke. The ribeye was mediocre. The wedge salad and bleu cheese... wonderful. This place could return back to the gem of yesteryears if the kitchen would take pride in the dishes on a consistent basis. We have driven by Smoke House so many times. Today we decided to try it out as we have heard so many great reviews. Unfortunately, the hype in our opinion was well over rated. We attempted to get recommendations from our waiter. He was very monotone with no real suggestions and when asked what was the best seller his response was everything was about equal. We ended up getting the ribs wins baked beans and corn on the cob with one onion ring. As well as a pulled pork sandwich with fries and a side of what they called award winning clam chowder. After placing our order the waiter asked if we wanted garlic bread. Which we agreed to having. My wife said the best part of the ribs plate was the onion ring. She left more than half of the half rack of ribs and most of the beans. The clam chowder was chowder with greenish colored sauce that was not hot at best like warm. There was plenty of clams but not much else to the soup. Honestly not sure what award was won. The pulled pork seemed like it came out of pot that was keeping it warm plopped onto a Hawaiian roll. And the fries were nothing special they actually tasted like they had started in cold oil then heated up. The waiter walked by right before we finished and gave us a thumbs up as he was walking by I had to stop him and ask for a refill of my water glass. He sent someone else to fill our water glasses. Once we were done we waited about 10-15 minutes for him to return to be able to pay so we could leave. The restaurant had a feel of an old establishment that was meant to stay back in time with the dirty red carpet, squeaky old dining tables, all black and white Hollywood movie persona and light fixtures that have been then for decades. Now I know that the thought of keeping the nostalgia could be important but I recently visited another restaurant in Hollywood that has been around more than 100 years and they were cleaner, more customer service friendly, and even with their antique nostalgia they felt clean and inviting unlike this restaurant. This place is so hyped up when my experience here was just okay. Even with a reservation and checking in 5 minutes early, we still had to wait 30 minutes until being seated. The cheesy bread I found to be the best thing on the menu in addition to the garlic aioli sauce that came with the artichoke. My boyfriend ate the burger and reported that it was the worst burger in California he's had thus far. It was good but nothing special. I enjoyed my veal Parmesan and was surprised that it came with vegetables on top of another side as I ordered from their special menu. There was even a wine bottle special that was good. The artichoke had a nice tasty char although it was small and I think pricy because of its size. The ambiance is nice for a date or a nice dinner. We came here with another couple and enjoyed ourselves in general. Went here to celebrate my sister-in-law's 50th birthday. Parking is valet only, which costs $8. A private room was reserved for dinner at 7:30pm. Many of us arrived right at the reservation time, so we literally greeted each other and sat down. We had 3 tables, each positioned against the walls with a big opening in the middle. As you could imagine, you pretty much only talk to those in your table with this setup. Each table sat around 8 people. Food was very good. I had the prime rib, which was cooked to perfection. My only complaint is that dinner felt very rushed. We ordered, got our food, had dessert, and as soon as we took a group photo, I thought we'd have a chance to order another drink and mingle with the rest of the family who sat in the other tables. Not the case, it was 9pm and I noticed everyone was gathering up to go. I asked my sister, what's going on, we're leaving? She said, "Yeah, I think they want us out of this room already." I though, "Oh well, late dinner, and their closing up. However, I stepped into the main dining room and it was still busy. Bar was full and I thought nothing of it until I got home. Then I checked the hours and come to find they close at 10:30pm, so why were we getting rushed out of the private room at 9pm? I don't know... Despite the good reviews and high praise for the "world's best garlic cheesey bread," I was not impressed with the Smokehouse. The garlic cheesey bread tasted more like crafts mac and cheese powder with a heavy handed dose of salt, but fortunately everything else needed salt so in a way it balanced out (?). Never in my life have I been so underwhelmed by grilled corn, and potatoes. Both stood out in flavor because of how sorely they lacked it. Do not get the cajun chicken pasta. Had I not ordered it myself I would've believed it was a lack luster plain old alfredo. The tri-tip steak was very nice though. Good quality meat and perfectly cooked. Cute ambience in the restaurant and the wait staff was very nice. Come to La Marias in Burbank instead if you want something actually flavorful. read more

I hate to post this because I love this restaurant. My wife and myself really enjoy going here around 3:00 PM - perfect time . Unfortunately, the last time we went , I don't know what the hell was going on in the kitchen . The servers were great . Drinks from the bar were terrific. Food - yuck ! Room temperature Clam Chowder , little to no chicken in the Chinese Chicken Salad and my wife's Quinoa and Beet Salad looked like we were at Chipotle. The quinoa was piled up like a beehive and the various parts of the salad were piled around the bowl . Didn't look much like a salad to us . The worst part is that I sent an email to the manager on two occasions. We didn't say anything about it while we were in the restaurant but I thought he should know about what was and was not happening in his kitchen. I never heard back from him. So much for being on top of things . I didn't want anything from him . I just thought he should know . I guess it didn't matter to him. Trying to decide if I'm angry, sad or just disappointed. I grew up on LA's westside Smoke House was a favorite of mine, been going there since I was a little kid, first with family and later with friends, even the occasional special date in my younger days. While I can't say it was frequent it was more than occasionally. But this past visit was likely my last. While nothing stays the same forever the nostalgic loss factor alone is, I guess, the most annoying aspect. True we had just relocated back to SoCal from 25 years Washington state so it had been about a dozen years since last there. We had friends come into town from the pacific northwest, arriving into Burbank about dinner time. How perfect to make the first stop the much touted by me Smoke House. Yeah, not so much. Their flight was delayed several hours, so we had to cancel our reservations and drove down from Ventura a couple of days later looking forward to dining there. First off, the place was not crowded or even busy when we arrived, on time, for our reservation. They sat us in a horrible spot, walking some distance from the entrance past open booths, open tables along the way. Ended up with closest spot to a service area, brightly lit complete with all the commotion and noise. While we were not dressed formally, we didn't exactly look like the Joads emerging from the dust bowl. (My apologies to Mr. Steinbeck) Our waitress was very nice, a real pro, so there's that. As for the food, and in particular the famous garlic bread which I had touted to our friends for weeks leading up to the visit, was a huge disappointment, so much so that even with only one full order for five people some was left. The cocktails were fine, so ok. My meal, a Wedge Salad, Tournedos of Beef with a side Béarnaise. The wedge, such a simple and potentially elegant old school dish, the kind you'd think would be spot on at Smoke House, was lack luster and thrown together. I've had better at an upscale chain. My Tournedos, ordered medium-rare were medium and exterior gray in color, they were OK, but again, not what I would consider Smoke House quality. The vegetables mediocre and drab. The other four diners had a variety of dishes, pork chops, prime rib, salmon, Caesar salad. No one talked about it being great, because I was picking up the check they all responded "good" when, as host, I asked how was everyone's meal. They were just being polite and knew I was not thrilled after all that talk about the quality and history of the place. It pains me to say I likely will never go back to a place I once really, really enjoyed and looked forward to revisiting, heck showing off, to our out of town guests. So long ol friend. This has nothing to do with their food, I made reservations 2 weeks ago we show up 6 people with my 85 year old mother in law. They can't find our reservation. I totally understand mistakes happen and we asked we don't mind waiting a bit, but hostess could have cared less and said it would be 3 1/2 hour wait. Again it was their mistake but they could have cared less about us no effort to try and accommodate us. I felt it important to express my deep disappointment regarding my recent visit to the Smoke House on Saturday, February 14, 2026. As a frequent guest who has long enjoyed their establishment, I was genuinely shocked by the level of service and the policies enforced during this visit. My party had a reservation for 7:45 p.m.; however, we were not seated until 8:20 p.m. Once seated, we were surprised to find significantly inflated menu prices. For example, the garlic bread was priced at $12.00, compared to its usual price of $8.00. While our server indicated these were "holiday prices," the increase felt excessive and was not communicated at any point prior to or upon our arrival. In addition to the pricing concerns, the service throughout the evening was slow and unprofessional: * Service Delays: We had to make multiple requests for basic service beyond taking our order and delivering food. * Uncommunicated Time Limit: At 9:45 p.m.--before we had even been served dessert--our server informed us that we needed to vacate the table due to a "two hour window." This policy was never disclosed during booking or at check in. * Management Interaction: The manager on duty explained that the restaurant had been overbooked and that a two hour dining limit had therefore been imposed on all parties. The manager stated that we were seated at 7:46 p.m. and that our 2-hour dining window had expired. We clarified that we were not seated until 8:20 p.m. Despite this, the manager offered only a three minute extension to finish our dessert. Once those three minutes passed, the server returned and told us it was time for us to leave. When I stated that I had not finished my dessert, the server left the table and returned with a to go container attempting to force our departure. * Billing Issue: When the check was presented, the server attempted to keep $35.00 in change without asking, assuming it was intended as a tip. This experience--particularly the lack of transparency regarding holiday pricing and dining limits--falls far short of what I have come to expect from the Smoke House. I hope they will review these issues carefully to ensure that other loyal patrons do not encounter similar treatment in the future. read more

Food was enjoyable, but unfortunately table service was not it. From beginning to end we spent more time there in long waiting periods than actual dining. To start, we received our wine in dirty glassware with visible lip markings all around the glass rims. Had to request new ones. The famous garlic bread that one of our guests raved about was good, but lacked any garlic taste. We waited quite a while for our entrees to come out and were too full to finish after only a few bites. As someone who works in the restaurant industry, I get that service can slow down during busy shifts. However, I feel like having clean glassware and utensils is something you can't miss. Smokehouse is one of those LA staples that you have to go to at least once. I live down the street so I frequent it more regularly than most I'd say. But I always know what to expect and that's its charm. I love the history this place has with its connections to the movie studios and old Hollywood. The moment you arrive you feel the old school vibes from the sign out front, to the red booths to the live music playing in the bar area. Food is always delicious and I've had both steak and the salmon here. They make a mean martini that comes with a refill which is one of my fave parts. It can be loud at times and even with a reservation you may have to wait if you come during a busy time of year. But I'm never disappointed when I come here. Thanks for the consistency Smokehouse. Wait staff was very busy with other tables so a bit missing in that regard. Garlic bread was delicious as promised on the menu. Calamari had a nice crisp exterior but was a bit too chewy. Portion size of the double cut pork chop was very good, but both mine and hubby's were definitely on the well done side so it was a bit dense and not very moist.
