I am a big fan of the old school dining rooms and these days they are hard to find. Don't get me wrong the culinary scene brings so many different flavors, fusions and recipes for the palate but there is nothing like delicious comfort food especially served with old school charm. We were greeted by warm friendly staff who sat us in the dining room and not long after the dining area began filling up with patrons and quite a few regulars. The staff knew some of them by name or their regular orders. For a server to recognize a customer and talk to them and care for them is what Juan S. Did. He was our server and was so nice, friendly and helpful especially this being our first time dining at Tallyrand. Attentive to all of the tables in our immediate area, conversing with the regulars and caring for them while listening to them. Our food was outstanding, a good sized menu offering various house specialties and all looked amazing. We went with the Turkey dinner and it was fabulous, like having Thanksgiving dinner without having to cook and clean up. Salad or soup option for starters that came with incredible fresh hot sourdough bread before the entree arrived. Good sized portions at reasonable prices served hot and tasting just like home. Came in and found a real hidden gem. The pancake stack came out decent. Soft enough. Fluffy enough. The kind of pancakes that do not change your life but absolutely mind their business and keep breakfast on schedule. No plot twists. No betrayal. Just a respectable stack showing up to work. This is a charming restaurant. It has diner counter seating at the front as well as booth and table seating on either side. The restaurant is more spacious than it looks. I came here for lunch w work colleagues and we got Indy dog seated. However I will say from ordering to the food coming out, it took almost 30+ minutes. I got the popular turkey melt and added lettuce and tomato. It was a tasty sandwich and well made. The turkey was delicious and bread was toasted nicely. This is a really neat restaurant. It is much bigger than it looks. We sat downstairs where it is very dark with a bar and a cool vibe. Upstairs had plenty of room and lots of light. This place looks like its out of a old movie. We were disappointed because we were looking for breakfast. We were under the impression that breakfast ended at 1:00pm. The Tally has a special place in my heart, so this is a somewhat bias review. That being said, the food is solid, the service efficient and friendly and the ambiance is of a bygone era - awesome! Request a seat in the bar, to me, the heart of Tallyrand. Here's where my dad had many a 3 martini lunch from the 60s through the 80s. He explained to me, on a special day I got to shadow him "at work," that the layout of Tally bar is perfect for business lunches. 'I can be close to the back door exit, while keeping an eye on the front door if my boss walks in.' So once a year Hubs and I come to the Tally to raise a glass to Dad and enjoy a classic meal done perfectly since 1959. Tonight, I was in the mood for one of their hand carved steaks. A beautiful 30oz New York Angus, seared and delivered perfectly Rare/Medium (I like more rare than medium, but enjoy a good sear). It came with choice of side(steamed veggies for me), and salad or scratch made daily soup(chicken noodle tonight). I requested some A1 sauce, but a perfect sauce doesn't need it and I didn't use it. The steak was seasoned perfectly with just salt & pepper. Chef's kiss! Hubs went with the classic pot roast dinner, opting for a baked potato over the fresh daily mashed potatoes and house made gravy. He also enjoyed the chicken noodle soup. Our dinners also have an option of a loaf of sourdough or muffin - all baked fresh daily. These muffins are SO GOOD! You'll be asked if you prefer the muffin to go, which I've elected to do previously because it's a great treat in the morning for breakfast, but tonight I wanted that delicious, moist carrot cake muffin with my dinner. Prices were incredibly reasonable and worth every penny! The place is family-owned and operated and is on its 3rd generation of family ownership. The staff have a fun and joyous camaraderie with each other and they were so pleasant and fun. I had maybe the most generic item on the menu, their "famous" turkey dinner. There was some taste, but most of that came from the cranberry sauce. My vegetable consisted of one raw carrot spear. After 10 minutes the doors were opened and to my surprise there was a staircase going down. This review is based on my experience with Thanksgiving 2025. Overall, I would say I had a good experience! I had heard about Tallyrand's Thanksgiving dinner for several years and decided to see what the fuss was all about. I arrived in line around 10:50 and it was already quite long, wrapping around the building. The line did move at a decent pace, and the employees did a great job of keeping everything organized. It also helped that the line was mostly shaded. I was able to place my order after about an hour and a half of waiting in line, and had a very quick and easy ordering experience. Each set meal was about $31, and came with the meat (plus stuffing if you ordered the turkey), yams, mashed potatoes, bread, butter, cranberry sauce, and a slice of pie. Once I placed my order, I was directed to the other side of the restaurant to pick up my order. I waited about another 20 to 30 minutes to receive my order. There was so much food! The turkey was plentiful and I especially enjoyed the stuffing. Yams were great, mashed potatoes were okay but I'm particular about my potatoes. The cranberry sauce was fine but I would've liked it to be a bit more tart. Bread was freshly baked and delicious. I couldn't finish all of the bread or pie and had some leftovers. The turkey was very moist and flavorful, the potatoes were light and fluffy and the dressing was spot on. Chicken noodle soup was good. Some of the guests in my party had pancakes and a breakfast burrito and said they were both delicious. By the way, the sourdough bread is so good that I took a whole loaf home. It has a fabulous crunchy crust and soft center. I also brought home a cinnamon roll. The flavor was there, but I think it would be best to have fresh rather than the next day. What a delightful first visit to Tallyrand, a true Burbank institution with 67 years of history! My dear friend Claudia has been many times before, so finally experiencing this classic spot with her felt special. I had seen a local influencer lady post about the restaurant recently which is the reason I finally decided to go. We were warmly greeted by Lorenzo, who was genuinely excited to hear it was my first visit, and Francisco provided wonderfully attentive service throughout the meal, always making sure our drinks were refreshed. The food arrived quickly, hot and fresh. I loved my deluxe burger with pepper jack cheese and fries, while Claudia enjoyed the Marco Salad with roast turkey, shrimp, bacon, avocado, egg, and tomato. Her salad came with a choice of bread or a muffin. She selected the warm, fresh baked, banana bread muffin. So good! We ended with apple pie à la mode -- I would have preferred the pie a little warmer with a streusel topping, but it was still a delicious finish to a very charming old-school dining experience. Please note the menu states $2 more for the a la mode but the bill says $2.50 more. We will live with it. LOL. Tallyrand truly feels like a treasured piece of classic Burbank. More of an older and family crowd but nothing is wrong with that. The restaurant also offers a full bar but we did not partake, mostly because the menu does not list prices for cocktails or beer -only for the wine. Why is that? Kind of strange. Weekend morning comfort food at its best! I have passed this place for years and never bothered to check it out. There are several other diners in various cities that we overlook all the time. After having a conversation about good breakfast restaurants with my sister-in-law, she brought up Tallyrand, and I thought, "No way! Really?!" So one day, my family and I finally paid them a visit. Upon walking in and being seated, don't expect much. They are in desperate need of a renovation, but in all honesty, they likely will never do such a thing. Everything seems to work as is and why change what has been working for them for decades. Just look beyond your surroundings and get to ordering.
