Lamb Shank

Wonderful dinner with daughter and son in law. Service is a 10, menu is a 10, freshness and taste full on 10, ambiance 10. This is a wonderful place to eat drink and enjoy yourself. I would highly recommend a stop here if you're in the neighborhood.

I have passed this place many times living in Bronxville. I love how they have a piano player and it just seems like a great sense of community here. Inside was beautifully decorated especially for the holidays. The staff were great! They were very attentive to keeping your table clean, making sure you have water, and really just checking in on you. Even if they weren't our waiter, they stopped to check in too! Food was great. I ordered the lamb chops which were so melty and great flavors mixed with the sauce. A mix of salty and a little sweet, complimented so well! The burger was great... my boyfriend said it is the best burger he ever had. The calamari was good, a little bit chewy but overall pretty good. We ordered the crispy chocolate cake to finish and it was just okay. Nothing I would rave about. Overall great entrees! Definitely would go back!

Complimentary bread with lentils and olive oil

I came here for lunch on a Thursday. We made a reservation and were seated right away. The restaurant's decor was beautiful. The chandeliers added bright elegance and the mirrored walls provided nice accents. Each table had fresh orchids. They also had a live piano player which added to the ambiance. To start, my mom and sister got the fried calamari and enjoyed it. We also shared the kale salad. It was fresh and crisp with a very light, citrusy dressing. I loved the jalapenos, which added some extra crunch and flavor. For my main, I got the cauliflower steak. It was a small portion size, but delicious. The cauliflower were tender and topped with rich, savory mushrooms. The accompanying aioli sauces were smooth and flavorful and really helped to elevate the dish. Loved every bite! My mom got the vadouvan roasted chicken. It was a large portion and well prepared. My sister loved the scallops and said they were cooked to perfection. For dessert, we had the tiramisu. I don't like the taste of espresso so this is usually not my favorite dish, but it was very creamy with the mascarpone cheese. We also got the petit pots which had dark chocolate and passionfruit and was rich, but not overly sweet. To drink, I had the sicilian slap. It was juicy from the blood orange, but I would've enjoyed a bolder basil flavor. The elderflower white cosmopolitan was artfully served with a beautiful purple orchid frozen into a sphere of ice. My sister got a gin based cocktail which had too much ice and became watery quickly. My mom took leftovers to go and they included a lovely red and yellow carnation in the bag. Service at the end of the meal was extremely slow. It took us about a half hour to get our bill and pay. Overall, lots of tasteful touches which made this restaurant worthy of a repeat visit!

Affogato

I've been here several times over the last few years, generally for larger family event-type dinners--most recently for my mom's birthday. My opinion on the place hasn't changed a ton, but my family likes it, service is excellent and food is mostly strong. I have some qualms but perhaps it deserves a bump up. Food is generally quite good--among the appetizers, the Deviled Eggs and French Onion Soup are favorites. Most recently I tried the Caesar salad with baby kale and quail eggs which was fine, but a bit boring for a Caesar. At our recent meal, I ordered the Grilled Swordfish entrée, which is solid--a huge swordfish steak, well-cooked and served on top of a delicious warm salad mélange of farro, olives (Kalamata & Castelvetrano), cherry tomatoes, red onions, and feta. It is also crusted with an Italian herb mixture, which just felt like overkill/one element too many on the plate--for me, it didn't really complement the fish and felt a tad too mushy, texture-wise. My aunt was also not enthused by her coq au vin. In the more unequivocal success category, my nephew ordered an excellent, perfectly cooked hanger steak that filled me with order envy, and the Affogato dessert with vanilla gelato was one of the best I've ever tasted, and absolutely delighted my mom. Overall it's a bit of a pricey spot, but mostly warranted for food quality and service. I do find it a bit loud, particularly for such an aspirational "fine dining" spot. They have live piano up front next to a small but generally crowded and vibrant bar area--if you are sitting at a table up front and just there to meet, it might not necessarily feel enjoyable, particularly if you are visiting with an *ahem* older-skewing crowd. Having said that, the staff is exceptionally efficient and accommodating, including helping relocate us to a table in the back due to noise up front. You didn't need to ask for water or more drinks, they checked in often. They even brought a free little sorbet with candle for us all in honor of the birthday girl, which wasn't even requested, just noted i guess because I chose "birthday" for the occasion on the resy. A bit slow with bringing the check but couldn't tell if that may have been a European "take your time" approach. Overall not an absolute personal favorite, but generally a strong and recommended experience.

Whole lobster over bucatini spaghetti with mussels and clams
Carmine B.

There is nothing to critique here. We ordered half dozen oysters, hanger steak, while lobster with mussels and clams over a bed of bucatini spaghetti and a softshell crab. For certain a lot of food. My wife and I shared all. They delivered the food already separated on the plates so we didn't have to partition it. They also brought out the food in the right ordered and adequately spaced out. Our server is Adam(in the photo) he brings an old school service which brings the right mix of entertainment and empathy all wrapped up with an undeniable energy which makes you feel like you have known him for years. The food is perfect combined with Adam, makes this an unprecedented culinary experience. All this carries a premium price tag, but well worth the price. A must go.

Mussels with white wine sauce

Almost got pizza instead...glad it was closed and walked past this place. Was in town for business and looking for something easy for dinner. After the pizza joint was closed, this place was busy so figured I would give it a shot. Food hit the mark...kale Cesar to start and then the mussels with white wine sauce for dinner. While the food was fantastic, the service is why I can see people coming back. And they did. I'm pretty sure in the hour I was there the bartender knew everyone who walked in on a Thursday. I will be back and recommend you give it a try if you are in town.

Cocktail menu

Great food and drinks. You walk in to an elegant dining room. To your left, a grand piano with live music. As you head past the bar that seats 10 people that has 3 TVs big enough to watch any sports game comfortably, you come to the main dining room. The main dining room is dimly lit with a candle on each table. Depending on how loud some people are, the noise can go from loud to very loud. My complements to the chef, bartenders, and servers for their A+ service. Kevin makes an amazing espresso martini. I started off the night off with an espresso martini with no baileys. The server brought it over filled to the brim and put it down on the table without spilling a drop. That takes talent to pull off. To start, they had a lobster bisque soup which came in a chowder style bowl. Although it looked small, the temperature and flavor were perfect. The lobster was cooked perfectly and felt like it could melt in your mouth (if lobsters could actually melt). I got the scallops as a main course. The scallops were cooked to perfection. Perfect scallops are colored white all the way through and not tough. A+ on cook and taste. The Bronzino was good but bland without the skin. Rating: B Amenities: outdoor seating, wifi, live music, TVs, and full bar. This place is on the expensive side even for NYC prices. I do not recommend this place for those who are hard of hearing. I recommend this place to bring your significant other and for special occasions.

Came here to celebrate my wife's birthday and was blown away from the experience. It was absolutely the greatest dining experience we have had in Westchester. The food was exquisite - every bite was delicious and the Barramundi was phenomenal. Even a person who doesn't like fish would enjoy it. Wine was delicious and the cocktails were amazing both in presentation and taste. Coupled with the great ambiance, it definitely would be a great date spot. The service is the highlight though. It felt like the entire restaurant's team was assisting us, asking what we would like, always ensuring we were taken care of. It honestly felt like Michelin star quality. Everyone was so delightful and we never felt rushed - if it wasn't for having to catch a train, we never would've wanted to leave. Mid meal we were already discussing to come back for our anniversary. For a fine dining experience, I highly recommend Underhills Crossing.

Server came to take food out order and we asked about our drinks; be here in two minutes. Our food order was in front of us before our drinks ever arrived. Lesson learned, don't let them pressure you into ordering food until drinks in hand or they add bar staff. Burgers were awesome as always, as are the fries. Another pet peeve: one diner is finished with their meal and they come to clear dishes while the other person is still eating. This was not necessary; there was no wait and the place was at least half empty. Haven't experienced this at Tavery before and hope this was a one time off afternoon. Your service experience shouldn't overshadow an otherwise good experience.

However, I'm happy to report that I dined here recently and had a better experience. Since the time of my initial review, La Casa remained in my periphery - mainly because my parents periodically visited and it was a frequent stop of one of my friends who lives in Bronxville. That being said, I was curious to check out La Casa again - and that opportunity came when my mother chose here to celebrate Mother's Day. La Casa is located just off the main commercial strips. The interior is pretty spacious with a bar towards the front of the restaurant and the main dining room split in two sections. The decor is somewhat under-toned with a cool color scheme and tasteful decor. This is in contrast with other Mexican restaurants that tend to go overboard with the kistch and warm colors. I will say the seats look a little tired, they could use some re-upholstering - and were a little lower to the ground than I expected. In addition to the indoor space, they have an outdoor section which was done up very nicely. The brunch menu contained a selection of apps, sides, quesadillas, tacos, and sides. We decided to start by splitting a few apps: brisket and al pastor tacos, a quesadilla, street corn, chips and guac, and more guac with tuna. All the apps were tasty - the biggest standouts for me were the quesadilla and the tacos which were all generously filled and had good flavor. For my main, I got the camarones a la diabla which were shrimp in a red pepper sauce placed atop beans and paired with bok choy. The dish was pretty good - the shrimp could have been a bit snappier, but I appreciate that they de-shelled them and the sauce and beans worked well with them. Dare I say the bok choy was the star of the dish? It had just enough flavor and added a needed green. We opted for dessert, and I got the grilled pineapple which was paired with (per the menu) vanilla ice cream or guanabana sorbet. I wasn't asked to choose, and was served the sorbet. I would have liked to have been given the option, but maybe that's all they had - fwiw the sorbet was good. The pineapple was candied and came as a large, thick ring - definitely needed a knife and fork to cut it up (which they provided); this was a good dish in concept but I think it can be executed better. Service was good, everyone was friendly and efficient. In my experience, service tends to be the weakest component of a meal on a holiday, but they did a great job. Overall, I had a good experience at La Casa. Even though it's not in my backyard, I would definitely return if the opportunity presented itself.
