Recommended by a local as a place to get some good BBQ and be able to watch football on Sunday while waiting for my flight home. Nice looking facility overall, took a seat and a large 3 sided bar with only one person other than me. Curious as to why the place was rather empty with TV's everywhere and football in full swing but I continued on. First thing I noticed was the bar area was open to the wind blowing through the entrance and only removed my jacket for the meal. Prices quite hefty even with post covid increases but chose the brisket platter over the ribs I heard about. Bad choice; sliced brisket looked more like it was cut with a dull knife and most was broken into smaller pieces and was bland and overcooked. The best part of the $25 brisket platter was the side of baked beans which were both hot and tasty. Had a nice $12 watermelon margarita after dinner that was prepared by a very friendly bartender who was very attentive to my needs and questions, but even her efforts could only bring this $50 experience to a 2 star rating. Maybe my mistake was choosing brisket on all first visits because that is something any BBQ joint should do right or they likely can't do anything right; don't think I am willing to go 0 for 2 just to see if the ribs are just as disappointing or not. Horrible. I ordered the smoked turkey breast which had more inedible fat and skin than it did actual meat. I asked to speak to the manager, who said that fat is part of the way they cut it. He did not seem interested in addressing our needs or resolving the issue. Wait staff and bartenders were amazing. My issue is with the kitchen and the manager. read more

First and probably last time I order from here. I ordered the Classic Combo with sweet potato fries (which I paid EXTRA for) and a drink. Not only did they change their minds at the last minute and decide my combo doesn't come with a drink, they gave me the wrong order! They made it into a cheeseburger and gave me regular fries. Our server did a lovely job. No complaints there. Restaurant had nice ambiance, rest room was clean. However, the food quality and amount is NOT worth the cost. We each ordered the 2 meat 2 sides meal. No appetizer, no bar drinks - although my diet Coke cost more than my husbands half and half tea and our friends unsweet tea was even less . The food is barely "OK" at best. The turkey is like shaved deli meat. The ribs are more for a kid's meal and the sides are absolutely nothing to brag about. Anyway, for 2 meals, 2 oddly priced fountain drinks and 1 piece of dry chocolate cake to go - we were charged $80.00 !!!!! Needless to say, we will NOT be returning. ( Incidentally, this was our 2nd visit. The food on our first visit was more like what one should expect. What happened ? Why so chintzy and lower quality ? Extremely disappointing . This was our first visit to this recently opened BBQ restaurant. We used to go to one in Greenwood and liked it very well. This S.B. Is beautifully decorated and the service was quite good, however the BBQ was below par. It looked and tasted like it had been frozen and re-heated. Quite a disappointment. read more

We had higher expectations. We ordered a plate that was to have two 1/3 rack of ribs, 2 sides ($30) The waitperson stated that there would be 4 bones per...when we got the order, we had 6 bones per, but they were (maybe) 2 1/2 inches long- about the length of the fork tines. Total rib meat from the two racks was (maybe) 3-4 ounces. My partner then said the place is called "Smokey Bones" not "Smokey Meat". Another person with us ordered 1/2 chicken with two sides ($20). Came out well cooked and presented, BUT this was the smallest chicken I have ever seen. like pigeon size. The 1/2 chicken was about 6 inches long, maybe 4-5 ounces. Everything was good. Summary-Big Disappointment, first time visit. Won't be back. Over priced for small portions of bland meats, cup of chili half full with LOTS of beans and perhaps a piece or two of the promised brisket (different bowl used for full portion so wasn't smaller due to that). Smoked meats? No flavor or aroma of such. Seemed pressure steamed and perhaps finished in an oven. Brisket was more similar to a less tender pot roast slab. Pulled pork low on flavor and too stringy but was tender and OK. Just had BBQ brisket and pulled pork 2x in Texas-no comparison. I pity Hoosiers having to pay these prices for this poor value and unrecognizable quality. Edible-yes, ok. Arby's is better value and on flavor etc. believe it or not. They did not have a lot of Monday lunch business, very slow even for a Monday, wonder why? Wish i had read reviews and elected elsewhere to eat. I have been in the food business for 45 years-this was probably the lamest BBQ I have experienced although I have certainly had worse meals elsewhere but not in smoked meats or pay so much for so little. Good points: interior seating decent/comfortable, food warm, Baked beans good, like their sauces, service good (although server complaining and apologizing due to her perceived minor delays in our service and telling us she was doing 3 people's jobs-which did seem she was). Saw a pretty nice HUGE slice of chocolate cake go by which must have cost an arm and a leg or was cut in portion by error, I have no confidence in recommending the cake and certainly stunned by this restaurants apparent efforts to cut costs at the cost of losing customers. I rarely fill such reviews out but hope the mgmt of such a store reads or their district mgr cause they are far from being a dining destination unless the folks of Avon are so desperate and unaware and have lots of cash to throw away. The mgmt need to decide if they want to save a few bucks but lose their volumes and ultimately lose their store. One other possibility-they had the B team on duty for a slow Monday but that should not have screwed up their smoked meat processing unless blew thru all their smoked items on weekend and failed to recover sufficiently but that would only address some of what I indicated. Lordy I can't imagine it being this poor on weekend but??? Disappointed enough to write this epic review but not complain (especially about the chili) at the time of service and embarrass all including my guests. The food was ok but far from good, great or worth the cost. "Smokey-NOT" "Bones-YES, NO MEAT" (perhaps an exaggeration for impact in that comment). Wishing all a better outcome! read more

Not a great experience! Was there at 3 pm on a Saturday afternoon. Waited about 35 minutes for drinks and appetizers, and still hadn't placed our order yet. May salad was forgotten, water forgotten, 1/2 the ribs on our bonefire were just bones with no meat. Maybe that's were the name Smokey bones comes from. I mentioned this to the server he just shrugged his shoulders and said that seems to happen a lot at lunch. We'd be hard pressed to go back. read more

Our family had a nice meal out here this weekend! The sauces for the pulled pork were so good! Definitely recommend the Carolina and Mustard sauces. The Brisket grilled cheese was amazing as well as the house baked beans! We also got a splurge chocolate cake that was really good! Smokey Bones was always one of my favorite places to eat and we frequently dined at the Avon one in the early 2000s before it closed. Once it closed, we went to the Greenwood location occasionally. We were so excited when we heard Smokey Bones was returning to Avon and our first dining experience there during the opening week was great, though the prices were high. After the first month or so, the restaurant has been on a steady decline. Every time we eat here, the quality and availability of food goes down while the prices continue to rise. There have been half-frozen appetizers and the last time I ordered a cup of Brunswick Stew, there was maybe five spoonfuls. The staff (though sparse on weekdays) are usually friendly, but there have been at least two times where something was ordered and not received. In one or two of those instances, waitstaff didn't indicate it wasn't available prior to the food being brought and didn't offer a replacement when we asked about the missing item - just "sorry we're out". read more

Up on entering the building was greeted by employee done for the day. He seemed great. Went to put our name in gave her name and how many and then she told someone else would help us. This ended up being our waitress. They lady that set us down was great. Now to our service our waitress did not listen very well and messed our order up. Our appetizer came out cold and we did not say anything about it. My daughter order them my wife and then i. My daughter food came out ok and my wife's had mushrooms on it that was not asked for but charged. I ordered a chicken sandwich and after 4 different chicken sandwiches came out. I never got the one I ordered when she brought the last one out she said she was giving me a Veterans discount for the chicken sandwich I told her I was not a Veteran and this is still not the chicken sandwich I order and told her to forget my sandwich and take it off the bill. We arrived before the evening rush on Friday 10/7/22. As I was lea Ind the restaurant my thought was no wonder Smokey bones went out of business in this location before and by the way this is being run looks like to me that it will go in the same direction as before. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. When I checked in, I was told 45 minutes before we would be seated so i checked in and gave my number. We went back inside at the 40 minute mark and they couldn't find our reservation. It just vanished and they said it would be a 2 hour wait if we still wanted a table. They claim it happens all the time and that customers dont even receive their notification that their table is ready. They whispered to themselves for a minute and told us a table just opened and to follow them (they where making an exception because we had already waited so long). About 10-15 minutes after being seated we ordered food and drinks. The drinks arrived 30+minutes after we ordered and the food arrived an hour after we sat down. The food was cold and ok, definitely not worth the $50+ bill. I understand theres issues when opening a new location but this is a popular chain in our area, and this location needs some help. There where a lot of employees standing around talking at the front while others where rushing around picking up the slack. I wish we had left when they lost our reservation versus wasting our time and money. read more
