16 years ago I ate a Smokey Bones on this exact location. It was then demolished and turned into an IHOP. But from the ashes like a phoenix Smokey Bones destroyed the IHOP and reclaimed its lot between Red Lobster and Longhorn Steakhouse. It is now has a fresh look and their website says they are even a ghost kitchen for 2 other "experiences." Standard bbq and burger menu. We ordered some wings to start, 4 Bones Style and 4 mango habanero. The mango habanero were...not good. Not spicy. Unforgettable. However, their Bones style was surprisingly pretty good. Dry rub tossed then drizzled with sweet sauce. The pulled pork sandwich was fairly standard. Pretty good. I liked that they had 4 sauces available at the table to put what you want on your sandwich. The baked beans were the star of the meal though. Really smokey and sweet. I would like to just get some of those to go. I tried my brothers Mac and cheese that he ordered and it was...bad. In the vein of chain fast casual this was pretty good. Compared to other bbq places I'd say it's fairly pedestrian. Celebrated my sister's birthday at Smokey Bones. Never had the opportunity to patronize this restaurant it glad I finally had a chance to do so. I ordered the platter that included ribs, chicken, sausage, fries, and brisket. The ribs and sausage were out of this world but can't say the same for the chicken and brisket and they were dry. Overall, had a great time and the environment was lively. I would recommend this place with the exception that I mentioned. read more

I don't leave many reviews. But this one was pretty annoying. Went to eat on a Monday night around 6:30. Place was empty. One group and 4 other tables seated, rest of the building was empty. Lady up front wasn't very friendly, but let us know it would be 10-15 minutes for a table. 0 people waiting. She took phone number (like we could be confused with anyone else waiting). Then we sat there for 13 min before we walked out. The time we were sitting there, we saw multiple servers, none seemed busy. I've been several times and the food is usually pretty good. However, the service is awful. I've tried giving the benefit of the doubt, but it was not busy during my last visit. First, the energy in the restaurant from the moment we walked in was off. We asked to be seated outside, which the hostess had to buss, even though several employees (managers) were just standing around. We were sat next to the outdoor fire place that was off but emitting a lot of gas. We had to physically move our table and the manager, Dave, just told the server that there's no health risk. The glass partition was also off, but Brian could care less that his customers were just sitting there inhaling natural gas. The cornbread was also so hard; like eating a piece of foam. We were there at about 5:30 on a Sunday and it was not crowded at all. Our server was friendly and did a great job getting to us quickly and checking in appropriately. Food was very good. I had the "pick 2 favorites." I went with pork and chicken. I was disappointed to find out that they were out of brisket. The pork and chicken were both very good. Nice amount of seasoning. I tried the different BBQ sauces available at the table and arrived at a delightful meld of them. For the two sides I had mashed potatoes and gravy and baked beans. Went yesterday for lunch with my husband and toddler. Defiantly not worth the price. I order the nacho platter, my husband a grilled cheese pulled pork and my toddler kids meal chicken with Mack and cheese. One coke and a strawberry lemonade it came to a total of $63 not including tip. Theirs no refills for the strawberry lemonade, the one I was not told until asked for one. If you like Hormel food products, you'll be disappointed by Smokey Bones' food, as it is a step down in quality from the processed pork behemoth. The meats are soulless, almost bland, except for the chicken which has a good flavor and the sausage which has a bad, odd, disturbing flavor. The fries ordered arrived cold and had the flavor and consistency of frozen fries twice reheated, dry and mealy. For the money, there are many better choices. read more

The vibe in the restaurant was cool. I took my dad for Father's Day per his request. The service wasn't very good it took them a while to get to our table, granted they've opened recently. The bourbon cocktail was absolutely delicious. The sirloin steak was OK, and if I went again I would get the filet mignon instead. My dad seemed to really enjoy the ribs. I hate giving poor reviews but when a restaurant uses the name Smokey Bones it gives the impression that they are a BBQ joint. From my experience this afternoon, I would say that impressions can be misleading. As I usually do when I am on the road I eat out. A lot. The Smokey Bones in Avon is relatively new so I thought I would give it a try as a late lunch/early dinner. Before I dive in and give you my thoughts, let me start out by saying the satff is great! They are friendly, helpful, and professional. The prices are in line with what I would expect from a place that serves true BBQ but in the case of Smokey Bones, the prices are a bit on the high side. The building is new, large, and spacious. My beef (pun intended) is with the food. I stopped in and ordered carry out and that is what I am reviewing. I ordered the brisket platter with the housemade bbq baked beans and the fire roasted corn. All of that will cost you $24.95. I had a short wait for my food and I was back at my hotel in a flash. I opened the to-go container and what I saw did not resemble any brisket I have seen before. There was no smokey odor like I would expect from supposably being in smoke for countless hours. The distinct smoke ring you get from truly smoked meat was also absent. The baked beans looked good and they were tasty the first couple of bites but they are very sweet and became not enjoyable quickly. The "fire roasted" corn looked roasted all right but, was obviously just corn like you would buy at the grocery store in the frozen section, and pan roasted with what I assume was a generous portion of butter. I may be wrong but the corn just didn't have taste of just coming off of the cobb. Other than that, the corn was pretty bland. Now we can move on to the main event... the brisket. What I was given were two huge, thick chunks of a "meat", and what I was looking at was really fatty and stringy. Brisket should be a rich, almost mahogany color that is fatty or lean, depending on if you get the point or the flat and it should have a deep, penetrating smoke ring. It should also be cut in to strips the width of a pencil and not break apart when laid over your finger. My brisket was none of that. So it wasn't looking good for the brisket, and made me dubious about the taste. As soon as I put that first bite in to my mouth, my suspicions were confirmed. It may have of resembled the shape of brisket but in reality tasted just like a chuck roast. It was good tasting, just not brisket tasting. There was no bark to speak of and I would hazard a guess there was little to no rub put on it. That bite did take me back to childhood, having Sunday dinner at my grandparents. Normally that would be a good thing but when you are expecting blow your socks off brisket, it isn't. It is a shame because I had high hopes. I can't comment on the other choices at Smokey Bones. It may decent. It might be spectacular! I would just avoid the brisket. I will visit again to try other things. Overall Smokey Bones isn't bad and what I ate tasted fine, it just wasn't what I know brisket to be. (I smoke briskets among other types of meats in my backyard so it's kind of a hobby of mine.) Lastly, here is the thing about BBQ especially good BBQ. It takes hours and hours and hours to produce good results. It takes several, large, smokers to produce the quantity of BBQ a restaurant needs to serve people, especially if you are open for lunch and dinner. It takes real wood to make the smoke that makes great BBQ. It takes knowledge and experience. It isn't easy and nearly impossible to do on a large scale. read more

New Avon location - Amazing drink staff and location and the food is decent as well. Lots of TVs extensive menu (food and drink), friendly Avon neighborhood vibe. A very open space where you can tell the layout was designed during covid and there is a decent patio and a separate to go area. Based on Avon chain restaurant traffic I would not be surprised if more tables are added soon (it may be a supply chain issue that more aren't here already). read more

They say they're open until 1:00 AM. We show up at 12:10 AM. Doors are locked. We call right then, from the parking lot, and they say they're open. The host doesn't even seem to know that the doors are locked. Says the manager must have made the decision. I won't be back. read more

Omg the food was delicious, I had a rack of ribs. I took a group of seniors 14 of them to be exact and nobody complained about anything.

It was me and my family's first time being here I was looking at there menu before going and everything looked so good and that's why we had decided to go here but we had a horrible experience. Unfortunately upon arrival as soon as we got seated we waited for our waitress for over 30 minutes the only reason she came was due to us saying something about it. Other customers that had just gotten there got attended shortly after which is so upsetting. To top it off after the long wait our food was cold on one side and warm on the other side. We got the Bonefire platter and some nachos. Later that night we started not to feel good and got food poisoning. I called the next day to talk to a manager they told me that the manager was in a meeting and would call me back a hour later never got a call back. Our server forgot our drinks (two waters) and had to come back after 15+ mins to ask again what we wanted. We ordered sandwiches, nothing extravagant or modified. After waiting for an hour we walked out. The hostess at the entrance was wearing a white tank top and pink Pooh bear pajama pants. I'm not sure what their dress code consists of but I'm not sure I know many places that allow sleepwear. The tables around us that did receive their food were some level of disappointed. The table behind us had items removed from their bill and the table to the right of us received food that was not up to par, based on the recipients facial expressions and pushing the plate away. We went on a night that wasn't busy at all. We were seated immediately but after 15 minutes we went to let the host know that no one had been with us yet. He did take our drink order and let our server know that we were there. When she came out she took our order and the nachos are really good. We ordered drinks from the bar and she never brought them, the bartender actually walked them over because they had been ready for so long. She took almost 10 minutes to come back and get our check when we were ready to leave. For dinner we ordered The Bone Fire for 2. It was dry, over cooked, and not seasoned at all. Its like they relied on the sauce to add flavor but there wasn't any seasoning on the meat. The waitress in the section next to ours was very attentive to her tables and I wish we would have gotten her instead. We did let the waitress know that her service was slow and that she needs to pay more attention to her tables espicially when its not busy. I felt bad about the lack of customers so I still left her a 20% tip. I just hope she does better in the future. read more

Finally at 5:15 was told there was some sort of computer issue and they had to remake my food. 5:30 still no food. We went out to dinner last night to Smokey Bones. I've been to this restaurant once before but never to this location. The parking was accessible and there where a lot of spaces available. It was around 8:00pm on Sunday October 21. The restaurant wasn't too busy but there where other customers there. Our waitress was Allison. She took our order quickly and our drinks came out fast. I ordered a strawberry lemonade with Tito's. For dinner I got the Brisket with smoked corn and mac & cheese. The corn was very good the Smokiness was an unexpected twist that I enjoyed, the Mac and cheese was good but didn't blow my mind, but it was good. However the brisket was a bit dry. Thankfully they had a lot of sauces and BBQ that I could add available on the table. I'm super picky about my brisket but I would eat here again. We had to wait a bit for the check because other customers came in and our waitress got super busy but her customers service was top tier from start to finish. read more

Let me start with service. Annabelle did an excellent job with service. She clearly is working hard for her tips. Ordered a Caesar salad with salmon. Menu says cornbread croutons. I usually order without croutons, but wanted to try the "cornbread" croutons. Salad came with regular looking croutons. Asked waitress. She asked "kitchen" who told her they were out of the cornbread croutons and just substituted regular. This is what Annabelle told me. Spoke with a manager who like Annabelle apologized and offered a coupon of some sort. I declined and explained there is a kitchen problem. She said the croutons were in fact cornbread. The only kind they have and serve. She assured me she would address the issue with the kitchen help and a new kitchen manager was coming on board next week. Bottom line, kitchen has much room for improvement. The venue itself was open and not terribly noisy with a number of televisions for viewing. I will say a greater variety of channels should be displayed. Several were on the same channel. The banana pudding was tasty. Buddy ordered ribs and said they were overcooked and dry. Felt bad because I've had great ribs at other SB locations. This particular location clearly has some kitchen work ahead. read more
