This is the letter I sent to Snell after they ruined my AC unit. I thought contacting Home Advisors would point me to an honest HVAC company but this "Stand up Guy" isn't. They replaced the Mother Board with a knock off board to fix my furnace but it ruined my perfectly working AC unit. They never check if my AC unit would work after they installed the board. I am sending back the Motherboard and the original board that came with the unit. Snell is responsible for me having to spend THOUSANDS of dollars on my HVAC unit. I would like all my money back but I would at least like my money for this knock-off board that ruined my system. Let me help you out, if you have to order a replacement part, why not order the board from Goodman and not a knock-off and return emails. These are just some of the horrible ways you dealt with me that is almost elderly abuse. Both Technicians started a conversation with me asking weird questions. "Are you planning to be in this house for a while and have I ever though about replacing my system". Interesting training you provide to your technicians. After Snell ruined my system, the Snell bid to replace it mentioned that if I signed today on a new system, that you would return my money on the 2 visits. High pressure and 2K higher than any other bid so, you really wouldn't be returning my money but you would make me pay an additional couple of thousand dollars. What a crappy way to get business. Your service manager that ordered the knock-off board NEVER responded to my original emails but why should he, you already stole my money. I have not been able to get Home Advisors to quit recommending you but I haven't given up. I do make sure I tell everyone about your abuse and almost ready to put up a sign on my unit explaining to my neighbors how dishonest Snell is. Now I understand why I never see Snell truck servicing units in my neighborhood. You all should be ashamed of yourself and I hope karma comes back on your company for being so dishonest. Please pay me for the knock-off board with a 2 year warranty and for the postage I had to spend to mail you the part that ruined my system. Good news for you, you can put this board back in stock to ruin other peoples systems. read more

I discovered Snell on Angie's List and reached out to them to provide me with an estimate on installing a heat pump system in my home. Being an old home I didn't have central AC and Snell had to install all the vents and ducts throughout the house. Built in the 1950s, this house was all plaster walls with very little room for the average sized ducts. Snell provided me with experienced technicians who provided me with an incredibly reasonable estimate and I felt so comfortable with the knowledge of the employees that I met. When they started the work, they were on time and were very flexible with the design decisions as they installed the ducts. Like with most installation contractors, Snell wasn't going to do the plaster fixes so I had my trusted contractor do the drywall work. When I called him in, he had expected to see holes all over the place but he exclaimed that the contractors who installed the heat pump and ducts did an excellent and very professional job. Snell gets two thumbs up with their professionalism and expertise. Since the installation, they have continued to provide me with annual maintenance service for my original base board heat pump and the new heat pump system they installed. During that time, they identified an issue with my original base board heat pump and fixed it at no cost. I love them because they are not trying to sell me anything. They just do a good job at letting me know what I need to think about for the future. Throughout the whole installation, they never once came back to me with new needs that required me to pay more money. As I mentioned before, even with my old unit, they only made little tweaks and fixes and have never tried to sell me something that I did not need. I highly recommend them for any job big and small. I continue to refer them to all my friends and family and will continue to use them for all my HVAC needs. read more

Our heater broke a week or two ago, right when it was super cold outside.Our house was 40 degrees inside! My husband called Snell that evening and they sent someone out the next day. They were able to fix the issue, and let us know that it wouldn't be long before the whole unit needed to be replaced. We expected as much b/c we live in an old house, and were told when we moved in that it would likely need to be replaced soon. The guys were super nice, and they let us know that if we chose to replace the unit within 30 days, the cost of what we paid for the immediate repair would go towards the total cost of the unit. So we decided to go ahead and take that option. Yesterday, James and Marcelino arrived exactly on time. They had said they would arrive between 0800-0830 and they were there at 0820. Both men were very polite, friendly, and professional. As a mother with two young children in the house, I'm very wary about having strange men in my house when my husband isn't home. But James and Marcelino put me completely at ease and I did not feel uncomfortable having them do their work downstairs, while I stayed upstairs with the kids. They let me know a time estimate of how long it would take to complete the work, and when they would be taking lunch, which I appreciated, so I knew what would be going on. They worked all day installing a new heater/ac and humidifier for us, and were very patient and courteous in explaining it to us and showing us how to use our new thermostat etc. I would absolutely recommend their services to a friend, and in fact, my mom also uses Snell to service her heater/ac as well. I happened to be at my grandmother's home in Burke yesterday when Snell stopped by for their fall maintenance check. Sometimes HVAC companies get a bad rap for being slimy sales people just trying to get people's money. Snell was quite the opposite of that. (Backstory: She wouldn't turn on the heat until they took a look at it first as she was worried something might go wrong.... I don't know. I just smile and nod!) Anyways, their tech, Italo, called ahead to let us know he was on his way and arrived right on time. He was insanely polite and looked so professional! Italo knew that she had just had Snell install a new system earlier in the year but was fine with coming to give her peace of mind. He talked me and her through it and gave her the go-ahead to turn on the heat (finally!). He was so neat and tidy and showed me everything he was doing and going to do with her system. Not only was her super knowledgeable, but he was easy to work with and answered all my random questions about HVAC and filters and whatnot. He has worked for Snell for the last 8 years! You never want your family members to be taken advantage of and with Snell- you will know they are only being taken care of. I was so impressed that I emailed David Snell Jr. about how nice his guys were on the job and he was so proud and assured us that customer service and our happiness was their priority! Everyone in my grandmother's neighborhood insists on only using Snell for any HVAC system needs. That should tell you a lot about how Snell operates and just how great a company they are. I used Snell last week to replace my ancient AC unit and furnace, both 20+ years old. The entire experience was exceptionally positive! The reception staff who took my initial call was friendly and respectful and scheduled an appointment for a nearly immediate response. Justin arrived at my house to assess the requirements for the job. He arrived on time, in a clean uniform and was very professional. He listened to my explanation of the problem, investigated the system and told me exactly what was wrong and what it would take to make the repairs. He provided me with options and allowed me to make the decision. There was no gloom and doom and no upselling. Justin provided me with the information to make an educated decision. With that, I felt that the ol' AC and furnace had accomplished their mission and it was time for a new set. The parts were ordered and the next week, Carlos and his installation crew arrived at my door as scheduled. Equally squared-away, his crew got to work and had the job finished in one day. New furnace, lines, AC, the works! Upon completion of the job, they thoroughly cleaned the entire area and left it better than it had started. Carlos explained the system components and system operation, explained the warranty and was extremely patient as I asked questions, too. All is great! The people at Snell represent an incomparable company of dedicated professionals who provide great service and exceptional products at a fair price. Snell went all out to "make me happy" with my new heat pump. Their staff at every level were well informed and committed to my needs. Ben Merrifield took all the time needed to both address my questions and to audit the existing duct system. Ben designed some changes to the duct system to enhance airflow. Snell went as far as swapping out the first unit the Lennox XP-21 a two speed 4 ton unit , which had issues, with their top of the line heat pump the Lennox XP-25 a variable speed 4 ton unit, and a new line set, with no addition cost to me. Rick Otto their senior tech said, " we will make it right, we wished things had gone smoother, we want you to be happy with your new heat pump". They completed their work with zero scratches or soil for me to deal with. XP-25 variable speed design allows it to provide just the amount of heat and air flow needed. whether it is 55" outside with just a bit of warm air flowing from the registers or 25" , additional heat and airflow. Snell's, pricing was slightly lower than other HVAC companies in my area. Snell included a 10 year parts and 10 labor warranty, backed by Snell and Lennox, which other HAVC companies would not match. Snell has techs that have been with the company, some for decades. When they first detected issue with the new XP-21, some very serious guys showed up and said they had a plan to deal with it. Issues with the Lennox XP-21 are rare. "We are the Stand up Guys" in their advertising seemed a bit corny to me, well they are The Stand Up Guys, and that promise is very much not corny. read more

Great Service from their very knowledgeable, friendly and patient salesman Jason M. to their skillful and hard working Installment crew! After our 17 year old HVAC motor blower started to blow out and malfunction in our home in Burke, it was time to look for a replacement rather than go through possible months of future repairs and breakdowns. We called up Snell and their salesman Jason, who's really great at what he does, was available to come out in a very reasonable period of time for the evaluation of the property size and fit dimensions while also sharing/explaining the options and pricing. Jason spent a lot of time to do everything right and was patient and able to answer all of our questions. So, with their quality work coming across more clearly than other companies along with good pricing, we decided to go with Snell. They also threw in a new water tank at a low additional bundled price which helped make that decision easier along with offering a 10yr warranty on labour and parts.. Everything turned out great and is working fine with no problems. Were now feeling warmer literally as well as warmer/happier about total endrun savings (on otherwise would have been repair costs and head-aches this winter and next year). A good investment for the present and the future for when we may sell our house in a few years at a better price (then otherwise with an old repaired system). So, I've written other reviews for Snell, all of which have been extremely flattering (five stars), detailing everything from the kind and courteous people on the phone at all hours of the day and night to the excellent service personnel they send out to install and fix our units. Have to say though, that during that single digit weather we experienced a few weeks ago, my less than five year old Carrier unit, installed by Snell at a competitive price, threw a blower motor. Once again greeted by a friendly Snell voice when I called at nearly 11pm, and, they got someone out there on the next business day. Turns out the part was warranted ... thank goodness ... but, was charged nearly 600 bucks for labor. That kind, professional gentleman that showed up spent maybe thirty to forty minutes diagnosing the problem. Then, after the new blower motor arrived a few days later, spent about another thirty to forty minutes with the installation. Nearly 600 bucks for slightly more than 60 minutes worth of work. Yup, I know, two separate trips, shipping costs for the new motor, and shipping costs for the old motor. But, 600 bucks? You decide. I'll probably roll the dice and try someone else next time. Oh yes, and, when both my wife and I called to understand what in the world would justify that type of charge, either we didn't get a call back or when we did call on our own and got someone that could answer the question ... well ... just a run-around. read more

I just had a regular fall furnace check and happened to follow a web link in Snell's confirmation message that led me here. I saw Snell's technician, Italo, mentioned in the previous review and chuckled at the fact that this was Italo who performed out checkup today. He's nothing but polite and competent, spending a good deal of time on a maintenance check that I've had some companies hurry through in half as much. My real reason for reviewing today's service is Italo's going beyond his own duties in suggesting that the fact that my furnace filter, which I'd changed only 45 days ago, was as dirty as it was suggests that my vents are probably in need of cleaning. Indeed, it's been many years since I even thought about them...not one of those home maintenance items I've worried much about but glad to be reminded by a HVAC professional, not just one of those outfits trying to sell me an unnecessary service since Snell doesn't provide the service. I was also happy to be reminded that my water heater is well beyond its "useful life". Again, Snell doesn't sell or service water heaters. It was just a friendly observation from someone who visits a lot of basements in his work and knows an old water heater when he sees one. Thanks for your diligence and helpful hints, Italo. We have been using Snell for more than 20 years; we've had two HVAC systems installed (different homes) and our properties have been regularly serviced by very professional, courteous, responsive technicians. We have also had a set of upgrades following the new regulations. The receptionists and schedulers are excellent, they try to accommodate our schedules and they always let you know when the the technician will be there and if there are any changes in the appointment. On March 28, Ben was in our house to do the summer service, I mentioned that the AC breaker keeps tripping. He took time to diagnose the problem indoors and outdoors and found problems with the outdoor unit which caused the the breaker to trip. He worked hard and efficiently fixed the wires without trying to sell us a whole new system because it was one of the alternatives if he couldn't fix the problem. Ben explained every detail of the diagnosis before he started the work, he gave me all the possibilities that he might find once he opens the outdoor unit, and laid down his plan of action. He was professional, pleasant, efficient and patient with all my questions and concerns. Snell has been helping us with our houses for more than 10 years. Yesterday my hot water heater decided to stop working. I called Snell around 1000 after trying to reset the unit myself. Snell had David out mid-afternoon. He thoroughly checked the unit and diagnosed it as simply a dirty flame sensor and corrected it. Having had Snell work with us for years, I was confident is his conclusion. We previously had major problems with two AC units in a newly purchased house. They repaired the balance where others had failed and then identified why those repairs didn't completely resolve those problems (clearly something existing from the original installer). Given the damage to the units and their inappropriate sizing, Snell installed two new units for us that worked great. They also installed a filter that improved allergy season for us greatly. When we moved to a new house about 2 years ago, they installed a similar filter for the house, fixed some poorly designed ducting, and resolved a venting issue. For any house issues I have that Snell handles, I'll keep calling them. Good work, detailed explanations, and no attempts to upsale. Two and a half years ago we needed to replace our heat pump and Air Handler. Since then there has been very inconsistent temperatures in the 3 level home. This was not only uncomfortable, but it required us to purchase electric radiators to supplement the heat needed on different levels of the home. Realizing we are headed into sumer, I visited Snell Heating and Air Conditioning about 2 weeks ago and explained this troubling home balancing problem that we were having to John and Champ. John is the Operations Manager at Snell. He felt that they could rebalance the system to make for a more even distribution. This past Wednesday, June 22, Snell's Service Tecnician, Loyd, arrived and set about to locate the duct dampers after which he repositioned the dampers to achieve a more balanced temperature in the home. I just checked the temperature on the main and upper level of this house and there is now only 1 degree of difference. Loyd was obviously knowledgable. He was committed to achieving a better balance for this home. Loyd is a nice and communitive person who kept me informed along the way. Although were only two days into this rebalance, I believe we are off on a good start. read more

GREAT SERVICE! My 22-year old A/C was having issues keeping our home cool, so I decided to give Snell a call. Shannon answered my call and all of my questions and even made me laugh a little along the way! Once I agreed to the arrival time (same day), I received a text message stating who & when the Technician would arrive at my home. At this point, Mickey Mouse could've shown up and, I would've been happy to let him work on my system. Instead, I got Justin. This guy was GREAT! He was all about his business. Justin introduced himself, asked, "if he may enter my home" and immediately put on his shoe cover thingys. He was incredibly patient, answering every question I threw at him in terms I could understand. Then the dreaded repair price came up. Justin explained what he found and gave me options on how to handle the pricey repair. Knowing the system was getting up there in age, he mentioned replacement as the best option but, I didn't feel pressured by any means. At the end of it all, Justin left my home cooling and my entire family happy. The Snell team has earned my trust and any future recommendations. read more

Snell came out the next day. My AC went out at my home same as other people's homes did during the hot summer. In my office, there were a few folks with the same situation. We all had different service providers. Mine (Snell) was the only one what fixed it the next day and didn't try to up-charge me. Since they put in the system two years ago, they charge nothing for the 2-hour call (which the service tech, David, worked the whole time and still keep my home clean). The problem was bigger than was originally thought and will need a new part. David had the part order and put a good work around on the AC to allow the cool air to flow again until the permanent fix could be installed before he allowed me to sign off on the work. I highly recommend Snell. They focus on the fix and do not try to upcharge you which is rare in this day in age. I had a friend go through the same problem and their service provider made her change out the whole system to include the ducting worth thousands more than expected. So I was very pleased when SNELL fixed the problem and didn't upcharge me. read more

After using Snell for almost 20 years we needed to get out HVAC units replaced. The salesman that came by gave us a quote of $48k for replacing 2 units including the discounts. He told us if we didn't sign then and there we would lose the discounts and he wasn't going to return to let us sign as it was during a heatwave and he was very busy. (Our AC had stopped working so he may have assumed we'd panic and sign). When I then asked him to print out the estimate as we were having several other companies come out he told us that wasn't the way he did business and left.Both of the other companies gave us quotes almost of half of what Snell was going to charge for both Train and Carrier- great products. I wasn't going to write a negative review but then I thought about elderly people who might get bullied into signing and paying twice what they could have because they were panicked about not having AC and losing "discounts" I felt I needed to. I had two different problems with my AC units in my home. A few months ago the downstairs unit was leaking and LOYD BOYD was dispatched. He assessed the problem and found that the AC cover insulation had partially come off the back of the cover and was allowing condensation to drip outside the unit. LOYD was courteous and quick to diagnose the problem. This month the attic AC pan was filled with water from condensation. When I called I requested LOYD. Again he diagnosed the problem quickly and THOUROUGHLY. He made sure the blockage in the overflow tube was cleared and provided me with instructions on how try to keep this from happening again. LOYD was easy to talk to and did not pressure me into any unnecessary repairs. Snell is a great company and I have been with them for several years now. Our Sales person, Joseph, came and provided us with an estimate to replace an HVAC system. Very polite, friendly and professional. The estimate was a couple thousand less than another company for the same system. He also offered us a great warranty. The next day, Yao and his clews came to install the system. All 3 of them were very nice, friendly and polite. They worked all day, and left no messes behind. Yao walked me through everything at the end of the day. The company also helped with getting inspections done. Inspectors came yesterday and all passed. We are happy with everything Snell provided including the office people who are also nice and helpful. The tracking system that allows us to track when someone is on their way is very helpful. Nice to be able to tell exactly when someone will get here. All in all, we had great experiences with Snell. Will update when the time for maintenance comes :) read more

Their staff is courteous, very well trained, and efficient, and they take the time to explain their work and the benefits to the homeowner. This year their Service Technician, Moe Labriny, visited on 10/8/2019 for the annual gas furnace seasonal check. Moe was an exemplary technician. Articulate, exceptionally competent and well qualified, and very courteous throughout the service. I would recommend him to family and friends alike. Snell texted me his name and a photo prior to his arrival, and Moe arrived right on schedule according to a previously arranged appointment. Moe also wore shoe covers while in our home and all Snell employees are fully background checked. Well done! I know my family and our furnace are fine for another winter season. Can't say enough good things about Snell. We've had them out for both routine and emergency maintenance for several years now at multiple properties. Their techs are always courteous, knowledgeable, and have great attention to detail. This was especially driven home in the summer of 2014, when our AC gave out in the middle of a hot, muggy July. Snell was out the next day, and diagnosed the problem as a simple wiring issue. When they could have easily taken us for a ride, they instead diagnosed the simplest solution, and fixed it in a matter of minutes. Needless to say, a refreshing business practice in the Northern Virginia area. For that reason, and for all the positive interactions before and since, we remain dedicated Snell customers. We've been using them since before they introduced the new tag-line, but we would definitely agree - a great group of "stand-up guys." read more
