Finally found a great nail spot in Encino! I've been to a few different ones and the staff was rude or their work was messy. I went to Soak on a Wednesday afternoon and did not have an appointment. I went to Soak where I got nail extensions and a pedicure. I was there an hour before closing and did not feel rushed. I got the dip manicure. Ah, Soak. I used to love you so. I stuck with you after a variety of ownership changes. I stayed even after my favorite nail tech left. And the one after her. And the one after her. After my most recent visit, I decided I'm dumping you, Soak. We are broken up. It's official, and I'm not coming back this time (which I've said before, but this time, I mean it). Why? First, you no longer have the upscale feel you used to have. You have not taken care of yourself. Second, we don't communicate like we used to. My nail techs and I used to have nice conversations, but now, I just get the cold shoulder while the nail techs talk to one another in a language that I don't understand. I can have that at any old [cheap] nail salon, so I don't need to pay you extra for it. Finally...the biggest reason we are finished is because you gave me a chemical burn on my last visit. The tech applied callous remover, but wasn't careful, and got it all over the top of my foot rather than just on my heel. Once my skin started burning, I alerted the nail tech (who seemed more upset about my interrupting her conversation with the other nail tech than the fact that she was burning me). She apologized a little, and wiped off my foot. But in the mean time, I had big red marks where the burns happened. And I had them for my Caribbean vacation too -- thanks a lot, Soak. Your front desk person routinely asked me how things went, not really looking for an answer. I explained that the tech burned my foot, and "Oh, I'm sorry. Do you need parking validation?" We are done, Soak. You will not Soak me of another dime. Goodbye. read more

Before yesterday my review would have been a 5. However, my last mani/pedi was less than satisfying. They didn't do a base coat on my toes and my hands look like a child painted them. Most places try to upsell but I asked for a more involved package and they just ignored the request and did the express package. I'll go back again because I've had 2 really great visits before the last. If the next time is like yesterday I'll need to find another place. The atmosphere and technicians are great. Um am I missing something? I really am so confused with all the great reviews. I decided to give this place a try because I hadn't had a chance to get my nails done because of my busy schedule with school so I was really looking forward to treating myself. After reading all the raving reviews I thought id check them out even though it's double what I would pay at my usual nail salon. Wow let's just say you definitely DON'T get what you pay for here. I don't even know where to begin the whole experience was just bad. They don't have massage chairs so you don't even get to relax normally instead it's these extremely uncomfortable chairs. My nail tech did such a sloppy job it's not even funny! I had to tell her to repaint 3 of my nails cause she missed literally half my nail! She painted outside the nail (which I understand happens) no ones perfect, but I had to tell her to clean that up with acetone because she was sending me home like that. She had just painted my toe nails so I was planning on sitting there until it got dry instead she just immediately rushed me off started putting my shoes on for me and it's not rocket science my nails obviously got messed up. She started to be very rude and make comments as if it was my fault. They made me pay for the disposable flip flops which I thought was ridiculous.. I never had to pay for that with any nail salon that I have previously been too. You'd think after spending $50 dollars here for a basic mani pedi that would be free. Whatever I didn't care it came out of her tip. I had nail polish on my toes and she didn't fully take it off with acetone and just painted over it with the new polish I selected.. I didn't even notice cause she rushed me out of there so it was basically my new polish and on the sides my old polish.. The next day my nails were already chipping. It's really sad because I asked the receptionist who does the best nails there and she told me she actually set me up with one of their best.. If that's your best, you really need to hire some new manicurists. The only good thing about this place is that it's quiet and they have a nice selection of colors, that's all. I got to enjoy some quiet time in an uncomfortable chair with a rude nail tech and overpriced-sloppy service. Yeah, never again. First and last time here. read more

For $73.00 dollars I have experience way better at a way better price. I really enjoyed walking in the salon, everything looked majestic. I was happy that it was very quiet, and I could finally relax after a long week of work. Part 1: Pedicure was o.k. I got the "spa" one, while my friend got the "express" one. We were both done at the same time. Knowing that, I should have just gone with the express one and saved a couple of dollars. It was not a resort like experience like they claimed. Part 2: Is where the drama starts.. The nail technichian started asking me a whole bunch of personal questions. Why ruin my peace and quiet? I don't know about you, but if get "yes" and "no" answers to questions, I will get the point and stop asking. The technician had a horrible rash on her skin, looked like it was eating away at her epidermis with some oozing and crusts. I didn't see this because she had gloves on while doing my pedicure. If I'm asked to fill out a questionaire stating what allergies, illnesses, etc., I have, I should have the right to know if the person touching me has something or not. She said she was allergic to the lotion they used there.. Not good advertising. (I'm allergic to everything) Downsides: The staff had a bit of an attitude.. even my friend noticed it. After I stated my complaint, all I got was a quick sorry and your total is $73.00. Another downside.. the spa chairs don't have a massage feature. So you're just sitting there super stiff. Cool things: They do your manicure and pedicure at different times, which is nice and doesn't feel rushed. The drying machines they use for the gel manicures are SUPER fast! I stumbled into Soak Nails after running errands during rush hour. My usual place, Nails by Kelly, was on the verge of closing, and I didn't want to chance not getting a chance to do my haggard nails, since I had a very early flight to catch the next day. I quickly glanced at Soak on Yelp and saw what I wanted to see - it was on my way home, it was rated high, and it wasn't too expensive. Which brings me to my next point: I'm baffled as to why this place is listed in the two dollar sign range. I was unpleasantly surprised to discover that the list of services was just about double the amount of just about every other nail salon I've been to, excluding one I went to in Hollywood that specialized in nail art. I don't mind splurging on certain things, but I've never really been the kind of girl who drops big money on my nails. I started having doubts, but the ambiance was gorgeous for a nail salon (I mean, really, chandeliers and curtains separating customers? And it's completely spotless to boot!) and everyone was super friendly. I figured I could just get a polish change since I was pressed for time and had to pack anyway. I was given a variety of colors to choose from in the form of those little fake sample nails. Brand wise, I could pick either from OPI or SpaRitual (an amazing brand I was unfamiliar with up until that point). I chose the latter in a metallic rose pink (I believe the exact number was 131) and the polish was absolutely luxurious - very thick, very smooth, and perfectly shiny, comparable to Dior or Chanel polish. The girls buffed my nails perfectly and did a great job painting. They also applied a top coat that made my nails dry really fast. I'm forever smudging my freshly done nails so that was a huge plus! My nails looked gorgeous afterward. I was very happy. Bottom line: yes, this pretty pricey for a nail salon, but you truly get what you pay for. I'll definitely be back in the future! read more
