The Cali breakfast burrito at Sobuneh on Melrose has a lot of hype behind it and unfortunately it doesn't quite live up to it. Let's start with the ordering process. You walk down a long hall, wait in line, order with a dedicated person, and give them your cell number to be texted when it's ready. The concept is fine but the execution has some real flaws -- there's no confirmation text when your order is received, and when it's ready the text simply says "your order is ready" with no order number, no name, nothing to identify which order is yours. That vague system led to an unnecessarily unpleasant experience when a rude employee essentially yelled at my daughter when she went to pick up the burrito with my name on it. According to her he wasn't just rude to her -- he was rude to everyone. That kind of interaction is inexcusable and left a bad taste before we even took a bite. The free cold water station was a nice touch though. As for the burrito itself -- The Cali comes loaded with steak, egg, avocado, tots, and cheese on a good tortilla and comes with a cilantro lime aioli that was genuinely excellent. The steak was flavorful and the egg was good. The sauce elevated everything it touched. The problem is the execution was uneven -- one half of the burrito was packed perfectly, the other was nearly empty. The tots could have been crispier and at $19.50 you expect consistency throughout every single bite. On the plus side, they do have a nice upstairs patio that opens on weekends which is a great spot to enjoy your food. Parking on Melrose can be difficult but there is metered street parking available nearby. We're living in a golden age of breakfast burrito competition in LA and Sobuneh just doesn't clear the bar set by spots like Bread and Butter or Wake and Late. The hype isn't earned at this price point. Skip the line and spend your $20 somewhere that deserves it.
Love me a good breakfast burrito and this place def delivered. Do I think it's a bit steep, yes it was $18. But I do like that it's thick. I got the bacon burrito that doesn't include avocado. I do feel like if you're paying $18 for a breakfast burrito avocado should be included. The bacon was thick, I loved the honey chipotle sauce in the burrito. It was a flavor bomb in your mouth. Everything was delicious. The place is small. If you're looking to eat with friends highly recommend to order online first and then find a seat rather than waiting in line to order. Parking is street parking. I would come back, but maybe not everyday cause it's $18
Great experience at this Persian-inspired breakfast cafe in West Hollywood! I shared the following breakfast burritos with others: -The SIG: Yummy breakfast burrito! I loved the spicy flavor of the chorizo. Rich filling that's creamy and gooey in a good way. -The Cali: My favorite of the two burritos. I loved the meaty and charred steak which married well with the cheesy and creamy fillings. This went great with the side crema. I loved how both burritos used fresh tortillas that held the fillings together well. Solid breakfast burritos for LA! The ambiance is like a speakeasy since this cafe is located past a narrow alley way that's pretty hidden. I came on a Saturday at noon, so it was pretty packed. All the seating and tables are outdoors with some shading. It feels tropical, relaxing, and nice. The staff were pretty nice too. I would definitely come back to try the drinks as well!
I tried all 3 breakfast burritos so you don't have to!! Jk The Sig- everyone's favorite but sadly not mine. It's beef & turkey chorizo but it was overall too mushy for me. Flavor is great though The BB: beef bacon except there was quite literally only 5 small cubes of bacon inside total....I'm not even exaggerating LOL the eggs were fluffier in this burrito but it was basically just an egg burrito. The Cali: my bf & my personal fave. The steak is seasoned sooo perfectly. The best steak burrito I've ever had. I like that it comes with pickled onions and you get to choose a sauce. Get the honey chipotle aioli and skip the cilantro crema here. Their cilantro crema lacks flavor compared to wake n late. A good amount of seating except not enough umbrellas for shade. Some tables are just straight up out in the sun. A solid breakfast burrito spot in LA but I wish it wasn't so far from me! Metered street parking, typical for LA.
Really great breakfast burritos :) I really have liked how the tater tots in the burritos are ALWAYS crispy! At this location, in Sawtelle, and even from delivery! I usually get the Sig with no avocado. I've also tried the tater tots by themselves, and they're so yummm. At the West Hollywood location, there's also drinks, so I grabbed a coffee and it was decent. Street parking was fine, and there's pretty good seating. Service was great, despite being a bit busy. I really liked the seating arrangement at the West Hollywood location, since it was outdoors and clean. If a friend is looking for breakfast burritos, this is where I recommend them to :)
Food was good. Tasty, in fact! The staff were friendly and courteous. Fortunately there was no line when we arrived and so we ordered and were able to grab the last small, two-top, sadly, in the sun, to enjoy our order in-person instead of having to take it to-go. The breakfast burrito and tater tots were hot, fresh and solid choices. I'd order all of it again. The place is located up a narrow alleyway, but not an actual alley, off of the sidewalk. It's tucked back inside the block. Like many places in L.A. now, get in line, order and wait for your name to be called. If you're fortunate enough to find a place to sit and eat your meal, that's a win. Street parking isn't readily available.
This is my favorite breakfast burrito in LA!! This space is right in WeHo where there's actually street parking available and lots of other shops around the street. We went for lunch on a Saturday and there was a line but it moved fast. The space is all outdoors but most is covered to protect from the sun and it was easy to get a seat. My fiance and I split The Veg burrito with gluten free tortilla plus tots and tried both sauces - cilantro lime and honey chipotle. Their gf tortilla is amazing, can't even tell the difference honestly, the tots are seasoned so well and both sauces are incredible for the burrito or tots! I wish I had one closer to where I live because I would want these every weekend!
We ordered sig for delivery through postmates. It's not the biggest breakfast burrito but it's well balanced with good ratios of the beef chorizo, avocado, crispy tater tots, eggs, and cheese. It also comes w pickled onions and a choice of two sauces which complements the burrito well.
Breakfast burritos are my thing, and this place was the rage that we had to come try out for ourselves. They're located in a tiny shop that looks like a co-op of several restaurants in one. Street parking was ok considering we came fairly early. You place your order at the counter, and find a seat inside or on the side patio. The wait for the burrito overall took about 15-20 mins as there were quite a number of folks before us. The price is a bit high for a regular-sized breakfast burrito, but nonetheless, I'm still glad I got to try it. Since my friend and I were on a breakfast burrito run that morning, we split the chorizo and egg burrito. The filling was tasty and came with potatoes, and the overall flavor was very delicious. I also loved the honey chipotle and chilantro (aioli?) cream that added to the flavor profile. My only qualm with the burrito was that it wasn't wrapped well. It was a bit loose and started to fall apart as we were eating it.
Didn't love the wait - the queue for the food probably took a little over an hour for a bfast burrito but the food didn't disappoint. I got the sip burrito and matcha americano. The burrito had crisp texture from the tater tots and felt super filling from the avocado and egg. Their pico was good as well! The trick seems to be to order online beforehand and pick up the food to save some time!

The sauces are great and I like that they have different options. There's a cute outdoor space to sit and eat. There are limited spots though so tables move as much as they can.
Where do I start. This place is beyond good. Friendly staff that goes above and beyond. Service was fast and easy. The ambiance is giving aesthetically pleasing. It is a little smaller than I thought it would be. The coffee was delicious. I would definitely recommend. I got the honey cloud and it was tasty. I do really think the burritos look delicious, I want to come back and try one!
Sobuneh invited the neighboring stores to their soft opening and I'm so glad I went! It's right across from my workplace, which is dangerous in the best way. I've been paying $8 for matcha elsewhere that honestly tastes awful... but their ceremonial grade matcha? SO good. Smooth, rich, and actually worth it. I'll definitely be coming weekly for my fix. The breakfast burrito is HUGE and delicious -- easily shareable and super filling. The owner and staff are incredibly friendly and happy to give recommendations. It's a bit hidden, so follow GPS, but totally worth finding. Ordering is at the window and they call you when it's ready. They also have a small seating area if you want to hang out.

Mindblowingly good. Insane flavor palette from the first bite and the right amount of crunch. Cheese melt was perfectly calculated, not too solid or liquid like. Meat was fresh and juicy, along with the vegetables. Innovative and refreshing matcha drinks are the cherry on top. Smooth service and food came out in a timely fashion. Would like to visit again!!! read more

Their breakfast burritos were a highly anticipated LA eat for me and I was happy to support an Iranian-owned restaurant that brings more culture to the area. I've seen lots of hype around Sobuneh, frequently noted as a contender for the best breakfast burrito in LA. While I haven't tried enough to agree or not, I will say their sig breakfast burrito hit a lot of high notes! Their house blend beef chorizo was incredibly well seasoned, the crispy tater tots added a delightful crunch, the eggs were fluffy, and the avocado was buttery soft and fresh. A delicious burrito, but for $19, the burrito leans on the smaller side and the value doesn't quite scale the cost compared to what I'm used to up in NorCal. Each burrito comes with a side of pickled onions and your choice of one aioli. I paid an additional $1 so that I can try both the honey chipotle aioli and the cilantro lime aioli. Both were good and definitely took the burrito to the next level. I liked the smoky sweetness of the honey chipotle, but the zesty and herby creaminess in the cilantro lime made it easily my favorite to cut through the richness. Metered street parking on Melrose is as tough as you'd expect, even when I arrived around 7:45am on a weekday. Just follow the sign to get to the ordering window/seating area. There was no line and ample seating available at that time, but ymmv. I recommend ordering online for a quicker pickup. I didn't dine-in, but the outdoor seating ambiance was very cute. Overall, worth a try for a great representation of the LA breakfast burrito scene! read more
Been wanting to come here a long time and I'm so glad I did. Street parking, little seating inside but they have a 2nd level open on weekends to offer more seating. It's a little difficult to find because the entrance is small but just look for the signage! The seating is very small & intimate. Service was very good, everyone was kind and polite, we actually got our order faster than they had anticipated, we were told 15-2mins and we got it in 10. Food is phenomenal. Expensive definitely but the portion is large and the ingredients are high quality. Everything we ordered I highly recommend. I would absolutely come back again. read more

I heard about this place every now and then on social media so after looking for breakfast burritos, I wanted to give this place a try. And oh boy, is everyone at this place super super kind. When I arrived and walked through the path to get to the order window, I was greeted with a friendly hello. At the counter, we had a conversation about what the best choice of burritos would be, filled with genuine kindness. Even when the food arrived, I was told a sauce I ordered wasn't available and offered a free tea in lieu of the sauce not being available. It was a really great way to start the morning and kept me feeling uplifted the entire day. You don't really find that too often when you go to any type of restaurant, so I felt that alone was worth the experience in and of itself. When picking out what burrito to get, I was told the bb burrito was the person who took my order's favorite, so I gave that a try. I loved how rich and creamy the burrito was, how the hash browns had so much texture and crunch, and how the beef bacon pulled it all together. The addition of the pickled onions really was a nice touch as well. The chamomile tea from sadaf was really good too. The ambiance is nice. They have a complimentary water station with really cold water, alongside an outdoor patio with a decent amount of seats. If you're early enough, you can hear the birds chirping away too. This is a great place to go to start your morning right! read more
tried the sig burrito and the hashbrowns!! the burrito was so good and flavorful and the hasbrowns were really crispy which i prefer better than soft hashbrowns! the sig usually comes with avocado but im allergic :( so i got it without, but it was still really yummy! also tip: order online!! when i got there the line was like out to the street and looked like a 45min-1hr wait but since i ordered it online i was able to skip the line and get it right away. also the seating area is really small and most people ate their burritos standing up, but if u can find a table its a really nice experience! read more
As a longtime supporter of Sobuneh, I am beyond excited to see them finally open their own brick-and-mortar in West Hollywood! I've been a fan since their Santa Monica days (which is a ghost kitchen setup), so watching this growth is seriously awesome. My friend and I stopped by today at 8am during their soft opening, and everything was already running so smoothly. I love that they offer outdoor patio seating, such a great vibe for a relaxed Sunday morning!!! Let's talk about the food... their Veg burrito is hands-down one of the best breakfast burritos I've had in all of LA. Packed with pasture-raised organic eggs, cheddar, avocado, pickled jalapeños, tater tots, black beans, honey chipotle aioli, cilantro-lime aioli, and heirloom pico. Every bite was flavorful, balanced, and absolutely worth the money. The quality and overall value are top-tier!!!! And the coffee program?? WOW WOW WOW. This location serves coffee and we went all in, I had the Honey Cloud and the Cardamom Latte, and my friend got the Sonnati Latte. The Honey Cloud with the burrito was truly chef's kiss perfection. Huge shoutout to Mitch for creating these syrups and drinks they are heavenly and clearly crafted with care. What really stood out, though, was the amazing service. The team was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from the moment we arrived. You can tell they take real pride in both their food and their hospitality, and it made the whole experience even more enjoyable. I left feeling very happy and well taken care of. There's convenient street parking, and the aesthetic of the space is beautiful and thoughtfully done. I didn't get a chance to fully dine in this time, but next visit I definitely will. West Hollywood is lucky to have Sobuneh. I will absolutely be back and highly recommend checking them out. Easily the BEST breakfast burrito in LA!!!!!! read more
This was actually worth the hype The coffee was delicious- not too sweet & very well balanced. I got the Narangi but as an espresso latte instead of matcha and it was incredible. My friend had the sonnati and it was also great but we both loved the narangi. We shared an Sig burrito and wow was it perfect. So balanced and the crispy tater tots inside gave it the best crunch. Highly recommend the chipotle sauce. We got to talk with the owner for a bit and he was so nice! Highly recommend stopping by. read more

Recommend ordering online as there is a huge line on weekends . They don't allow drink orders online so I ordered my drinks in person. The sonnati matcha latte with the saffron rose cream top and pistachio milk is heaven !!!! I got the veggie breakfast burrito and it was delicious. It has organic pasture raised eggs , avocado and tater tots inside and it comes with a side of cilantro lime or honey chipotle aioli ( both are great ) and also with a side a pico de gallo. This is my new fav breakfast joint and I'm definitely coming back. read more
The Matcha here is fantastic! The line moves quickly, I will have to be back to try their breakfast burritos. Next time, they look absolutely amazing! They do have a bit of seating, tucked away in an alley, this was such a great find! Service is wonderful, so friendly and helpful. i absolutely looooovveeeeee sobuneh!!! when you are walking in to enter the cafe it feels like you are walking inside a cave, so cool! shoutout to the lovely sweet adorable lady who takes our order with her little iPad. i love how conversational she is with everyone. it nice to enter a cafe with such a sweet welcoming attitude. when you ask her, she will tell you her favorites out of the menu & will go in full details. i absolutely looveee their burritos. i think their burritos are absolutely massive. i have visited sobuneh twice and my first time i tried ' the sig ' burrito with honey chipotle aioli, cilantro lime, & pickled onions as my sauces & my second visit i tried ' the bb ' with honey chipotle aioli & pickled onions as my sauce. both burritos were absolutely delicious & fulfilling. you can literally eat half & save the other half for later. unless you are big back then nvm. lol. i am a big fan of their matchas. i tried the ' sonnati ' matcha latte ' & the ' persian fog ' matcha latte. they have a upstairs and downstairs seating areas however when it's busy their seating tables can be a bit tricky to snag. a really beautiful atmosphere though. i love that they offer complimentary water on the side while you are waiting for your food and drinks. ordering process is pretty easy i think. they send you a separate text message of when your food is ready & when your drink is ready as well. i like how they wrap their burritos. most definitely a breakfast place to try if you are ever in the melrose area! read more
FINALLY!! Sobuneh has been on my list for sooo long. There is only one breakfast burrito that still ranks above the Sig for me. These burritos are absolute flavor bombs and the chorizo mixed with the cilantro lime aioli was an excellent balance. The Sig had a FAT avocado portion, eggs cooked well, cheese ratio was exactly as it should be, and tots were perfectly crispy. I even liked the beans, which I normally skip and the pickled onions on the side were a great touch. I also tried a bite of the Cali and that one was also great, steak was cooked perfectly. I really like that every meat option was beef based. The Sonnati matcha latte was also quite unique -- I'm obviously very used to Persian flavors but I wasn't sure about this one and it worked out very well. I liked the upstairs seating area a lot as well, a great little cozy nook to finish breakfast. They were apparently short-staffed the day we visited, per the staff, but frankly the ops speed was still high and everyone was very friendly -- we didn't wait long at all! read more

Ugh it's been weeks since I had the Cali burrito from Sobuneh and my heart already aches for its return. Generous amount of avocado, perfectly warm n crunchy tater tots, surprisingly juicy steak, etc etc. $20 may seem like a devious price for a breakfast burrito but this thing is more filling than it looks! I had to fight with all my might to finish the last few bites and felt sooo big and bulbous afterwards. One thing I seriously missed about LA was the breakfast burritos so when I came back to visit a friend, I knew I just had to make sure I got my fix. Seating is pretty limited but usually there's quick turnover so by the time you get your order you'll most likely have found a spot so long as you're proactive enough. Btw with each breakfast burrito you get to pick between either honey chipotle aioli or cilantro-lime aioli. I got the honey chipotle and my friend got the other one so we both got to try both. We were in agreement that the honey chipotle aioli was the yummier one of the two. She actually told me she's gone back since the two of us went for the first time together and I peeped she got the honey chipotle aioli lol. read more

Finally tried the new storefront! I really like the way it's set up and that ample seating is offered on the weekends (less seating offered weekdays). I would recommend ordering ahead as the wait time is around 15-20 minutes for food. The drinks came out quicker. The tots are perfectly crispy and the burrito perfectly tasty. I got the honey cloud latte and really enjoyed it. The balance of salty and sweet in the cold foam was excellent. Will definitely be heading back to this location soon! read more

Sobuneh is tucked away in an alley off of Melrose. We would've missed it had it not been for the little marquee/board on the sidewalk. So worth the wait. The Cali was very good and filling. We also had the BB which also satisfied our hunger. The Arnold Palmer and the matchas were great. I only wish they had bigger sizes. read more

THE SIG 10/10: Oh my fricking goodness. I'm not the biggest fan of burritos BUT this one is so good. Yes, it is a bit on the pricier side but this is the kind of burrito you think about and crave and you treat yourself to it when you have been on your A game. The tater tots are so crispy, the turkey chorizo is flavorful, and it's amazing with the cilantro lime sauce. Highly recommend. HONEY CLOUD LATTE (MATCHA) 7.5/10: Honestly, pretty standard matcha, nothing too special but it isn't bad either. I do like that Sobuneh gives you the option to get either espresso or matcha with the latte choices, it works for people who aren't the biggest fans of coffee! I also asked for half the sweetness and suggest that for people who like a bit of sweetness but not too much. AMBIANCE 10/10: Really cute area, they have pick up windows and there is lots of seating. It is almost like a cute cafe courtyard area where you can sit. NOTES-- - Parking can be a NIGHTMARE - As of right now.. I am unsure if they have a bathroom. read more

We went there on a Sunday wanting breakfast burritos and honestly the price for the size of the burrito was not worth it. We got the Sig burrito the taste was good and the cilantro sauce was not bad but the price was just not it. If you like paying more for small burrito then this is your spot! We asked for light ice on our coffees and they asked us if it was okay to not have the cup filled all the way or to add more milk so our cup would be full which I've never heard before. We were forced to ask for more milk and the coffee just tasted like milk because we asked for light ice. The place was pretty unprofessional handled because they handed our food to another person and they realized it was a mistake. Our food was opened by another person and they didn't even do anything about it, they just apologized. The space was a real issue too! No one could walk around, everyone would just push each other around to get a spot. I understand they had limited space but I think they could handle the situation of the seating better by making people wait in line until a place opened up to be seated or something. They would just let people do whatever they wanted whether it was unfair or not. The only thing that would be good to do here is to order online and take out. read more
The consensus is that this is one of the top breakfast burritos around. I was definitely skeptical when I seen that BestofLA scammer saying that it was. But to my surprise, he wasnt lying this time. Macheen had been my top burrito, but these burritos are the best new school breakfast burritos I've had. I tried The Sig (Chorizo) and The BB (Beef Bacon). Get both of the salsas (Cilantro Lime & Honey Chipotle and use them together. The flavor is crazy. FYI they don't have pork. This place is insanely popular, and its in LA. So good luck finding parking, and even if you order ahead, be prepared to wait 45 minutes to an hour. Its also a little hard to find because you can't really see it from the street. It's down a long narrow hallway. But overall, these burritos are must try. The only reason its not 5 stars is because of the location and wait time. The burrito is definitely 5 stars! read more

I finally tried Sobuneh's matcha and I really like it!!! I got the matcha latte with pistachio milk and sweetened it with vanilla bean. Overall, it was really creamy and had the perfect amount of sweetness. I really liked the matcha and thought the pistachio milk paired with it really well! Highly recommend! In terms of service, i went on a Sunday and the line was long but they made my matcha within 5 mins so they are quick!! read more
