This is my second time trying Wake & Late and I'm pretty obsessed. This variation of a breakfast burrito is classic with eggs, avocado, tater tots that provide the perfect textural aspect, and cheese. You can modify and add proteins to it like bacon (which is the perfect addition in my opinion) or steak, as well as the option to add beans. You have the option of 2 sauces, a silky cilantro aioli or the chipotle aioli which is my personal favorite. I tried Wake and Late in Pasadena a year or two ago and remember thinking the burritos were pretty expensive for how small they were. Fast forward to now, we tried the Hollywood location on a Sunday around noon and left impressed. First off, the orange juice was super fresh. The small/personal breakfast burrito is $12, which feels very reasonable compared to other spots. They also serve breakfast burritos after breakfast hours we went around 12 PM with no problem. Service was fast, and you can see the staff working quickly inside. They were definitely busy too, especially with the Hollywood Farmers Market going on. I ordered a burrito with no add-ons and chose the cilantro crema hands down the best sauce in my opinion. Perfect amount of potatoes, bacon, and eggs. No complaints at all. They also have coffee and matcha. One more thing for those who care about details: the burritos are made with house-made flour tortillas, made fresh daily using organic, regenerative flour with no preservatives, fillers, conditioners, or seed oils (per the menu). Best breakfast burrito in LA they say? HA. Not even close! I think if you value texture over flavor then I can see why you would think it's the best. My favorite part of the burrito was the texture. I really liked how crispy the hash browns were and the fluffiness of the eggs. It had a good amount of steak but the overall flavor profile of the burrito was just meh. For a $19 breakfast burrito, I was expecting an explosion of flavors in my mouth, something that made me say "oh my god" when I bit into it. The size of the burrito is more of a snack size. I purposely took small bites to enjoy it more but if I had bit into it with normal size bites I would've finished it in a few bites. I'm not saying I wanted a huge burrito that I can't finish in one sitting, but maybe if it was about 50% bigger, then maybe, just maybe, it might've been worth the price. I think a fair price for this breakfast burrito with steak included would be $12. I also think the packaging of the burrito in a box is very environmentally wasteful. The box doesn't really add anything to the experience. I ate at their tables outside and their trash can that they have set up on the street was overflowing with Wake and Late's orange boxes. I couldn't help but think of how much volume their boxes took up in the trash bag and what it would've looked like had the trash bag been filled with only the foil wrappings and maybe sauce cups and drink cups. Would've been WAY less trash waste. Service was OK. Felt kind of transactional. The cashier was nice though she gave me the bathroom code to the Trader Joe's across the street since Wake and Late does not have bathrooms. Overall, I think this place is very overhyped and not worth the price for the size and flavor despite them using clean premium ingredients. It just opened my only gripe is that there are not a lot of options on the menu of burrito with a few different options they have coffee. They have orange juice and then the prices are very expensive. The two Beria burritos that we got were absolutely delicious. They were not big at all. They are definitely small burritos and not what you think Mexican breakfast burritos .There was no question it was tasty but our coffee one juice and two burritos were about $44 which I think is a lot of money for two breakfast items to go. We ordered a vegetarian breakfast burrito, 1 plain bagel and 1 parm bagel, 1 plain cream cheese and 1 lox cream cheese (minimum of 2 bagels and cream cheeses per order) and 1 iced matcha latte with oat milk. The total was around $40, which is pricey but I think worth trying at least once. Because they were out of parm bagels, they subbed it out for a sweet onion bagel and threw in 2 free bagels. Along with this, they also gave us a complementary drink. Great customer service. The worker also explained why their burritos are so famous (including Michelin guided tortillas), which was interesting to hear! Their burrito was very good. Very tasty, savory and flavorful, despite it being a little one dimensional. The tator tots were crispy and salty, the tortilla was good and the avocado was a nice touch that most traditional breakfast burritos don't have. The chipotle aoili was pretty chipotle-forward, I thought it was okay. For $18, it is a very small burrito but again, worth trying once. The bagels were fresh, warm and soft. They're rip n dip style. As bagels go, they were both pretty standard. The lox cream cheese could've used more lox and less dill. Both cream cheeses had a good whip to them. The matcha is provided by Lamill Coffee. I got it with bacon, and I loved that they use bacon bits instead of strips so that the generous amount of bacon that they give is evenly dispersed in each bite and extra crispy. These burritos were wrapped very well and weren't messy to eat at all. Each bite had the right amount of every ingredient.
