Lunch deals are reasonably priced and allow for a good sampling of their food so the 3 of us tried the enchiladas, and steak tacos. Each also included a scoop of rice, and refried beans. My friends found the meals perfect, but I am used to spicier and deeper flavors so found everything a bit bland, but I enjoyed the freshness and family owned atmosphere, with a pleasant server, and with brightly painted walls and decorations over a chain for sure! Chilequiles verdes are a must when you come. If you're a vegetarian then unfortunately don't eat the beans, they're made with lard/manteca. But the tortillas are made fresh which makes the chilequiles taste even better. & with a Mexican Coke in the side, ugh so good. Amongst a strip mall setting you will find this sweet little restaurant with a large menu and friendly service! Lots of daily specials at very reasonable prices, breakfast served all day and a lunch special too! My daily special (Tuesday) was a "mini" chicken taco salad which was served in a fresh tortilla shell and absolutely filled with yum! I can't imagine what the full side taco salad would look like because this one was so big I could barely finish it. No skimping on that special! The other dish we got was a lunch special chicken enchilada which came with rice and beans and was fresh and delish with shredded chicken. Also a generous portion. They also serve a variety of Aguafrescas and N/A margaritas which you can add on to your special at a reduced price - very refreshing! Although this is a modest food restaurant, the food hear is one of the best my husband and I have tasted. I know everyone has different food pallets. But this very modest affordable corner in Surprise is well worth it. The owner of Sofi's restaurant is kind and is proud of the food she cooks with love, and you can taste that in her cooking. This restaurant was 10/10! When we walked in they brought us menus right away. The service was very fast and the staff was friendly. The food came out piping hot and had so much flavor. I liked that there were different options for seating (booths, chairs, booths with chairs). We started eating before I could take the pictures, so image how it looked before we started! My husband ordered the Carne Asada Fries, the meat was very tender and flavorful and the fries had the perfect crunch to them. On top of that, "the guac was actually good!" Fresh tortillas. Rice was good. My only issue is that I ordered double rice, no beans. But got the standard rice and beans instead. That's ok though. The tacos and single side of rice filled me up. We walked in as a family of 5 (2 kids) for some lunch and automatically got attitude from our server. She was extremely rude. We asked for a Diet Coke for my diabetic sister in law and she brought her a regular coke, we received dirty looks and annoying sighs just in the short time we were there. We are a mixed Hispanic/ black family and you could tell immediately we were being stereotyped. We got mostly water, and my nephew got a canned sprite, which we ended up paying for, despite the fact that it was not opened or touched before we left. My husband and I had breakfast here after local Facebook friends said we could get a good breakfast at a reasonable price. The restaurant provides table service. I ordered waffles with two eggs over medium. I chose a sausage patty but could have ordered sausage links or bacon. My husband ordered pancakes, eggs and sausage links. The server was prompt and friendly. We ordered coffee with lots of cream. I was happy to get lots of Land of Lakes half and half mini moo creamers. The server came by several times to refill our coffee. We sat in a booth but could have sat at a table. We liked the waffle better than the pancakes. The waffle had perfect consistency and tasted great. The pancakes were a little too dense. We liked both the sausage links and the sausage patty. The only mistake was that we got normal fried eggs instead of eggs over easy. We were happy the restaurant is open 7 am to 8 pm every day of the week. Not all local restaurants are open on Sunday. A couple months ago we had dinner here. Our meals were Mexican food and were average tasting but very reasonably priced. We are more likely to return to this restaurant for breakfast rather than dinner because there are other better Mexican restaurants in the area, although they are more expensive. The restaurant is fairly small. Its menu is not as extensive as IHOP. It is a small family owned restaurant. There is plenty of free parking because the restaurant is located in a strip shopping center. read more

Let's chat about Sofi's Mexican Restaurant. While Nextdoor has a slightly lower rating of 4.3, I would have to disagree with them gentle readers. (Get where I was attempting to go there?} Our friends Valerie and Dan told us about this small local family restaurant. Fast forward a few weeks, we decided to go. Cannot believe Dan and Valerie were actually there. (This leads me to believe they may have stock in the Restaurant.) We were greeted with a friendly waitress who quickly brought us water and menus. We ordered the recommended Taco salad and enchilada dinners which were delicious! The lettuce was crisp, the pico de gallo was fresh and the ground beef seasoned well but not overpowering. The restaurant's homemade red and green salsa's added a unique twang and heat respectively; and the homemade red enchilada sauce is also noteworthy adding a sense of spice, but not necessarily heat. We even ordered additional just to soak the towering-ever so crisp and light taco shell from the taco salad. Unexpectedly, Dan and Valerie picked up the tab (truly solidifying our friendship)! Brining us to today. Not wanting to drive the notorious - take your life into your own hands - stretch from R H Johnson to 83RD, we decided to try Sofi's again. Totally surprised not to find our great friends Dan and Valerie already there, we selected a table in the corner. There were 2 additional newbie couples in the opposite corner sharing with the waiter they had also come in from recommendations made by neighbors and Nextdoor alike. While we should have ordered different items in order to expand our horizons, our last meal was too good to pass up; we ordered the exact same dishes. Not disappointed again! I would like to add one last comment. Being an American brought up knowing great American fries that were once served in great Counter Diners such as F W Woolworth's, JJ Newberry's, and W T Grant's, we ventured to order the french fries as an appetizer (yes at a Mexican Restaurant). The waiter asked us if we would like them "crisp". Of course the answer was yes!! I will admit they took me back 50 years sitting at the round shaped counters at Woolworth's with my 2 brothers and mom Sandra sharing a plate of fries. The inside, creamy like a starchy mashed potato, the outside crispy almost potato chip like, and hot, we decided to drench them in ketchup and salt. The moment now forever captured in nostalgia. Gentle readers, keep in mind this is a FAMILY restaurant; no fine linen, no crystal chandeliers and no servers in tuxedos. You get a great tasting meal at a very fair price from a honest hard working family owned business serving our great community. What more should you ask for? read more
