Slave girl gang and I were not impressed with the original hang out spot and we decided to find somewhere else that was more affordable with more selections. Sojuya looked promising and we headed over ASAP. When we got there, it was busy but not out of the world busy. Then I realized we just missed happy hour, that was probably why. As the night went out, it got really packed with lines at the door. The first thing I saw when I walked in was the yakitori station. The aroma, the smoke, wait, wasn't I in a Korean bar? After we sat down, we got free popcorn right away. After we decided on what to get, I was waiting for the server to come back to take our order, and that was when I realized there was a bell on the side of the table for us to call the waiters. My bad, it has been awhile. We got dried squid with snack, some yakitori items, a combo special with wings and a pitcher, and spicy seafood soup. The dried squid was warm and it came with a mayo spicy sauce to dip. I've never seen mayo in spicy sauce before and that was interesting. The order came with two pieces and it was great with beer. The yakitori items were decent. Nothing amazing but definitely got the job done. With the wings, I am not a big fan of Korean style since it is usually wet and sticky, so we asked the sauce on the side. The wings were crunchy outside and juicy inside. The fries was also seasoned and I was pleased with this dish. The spicy seafood soup was also good. Slave girl didn't care for it, and I think it was because she was getting full. I actually enjoyed it alot. It came with a shrimp, crabs, mussels, clams, and calamari rings. It was a perfect ending for our night. Overall, I like the food here. The service could be slow at times even after I hit the bell. It didn't bother me much since I could easily hit the bell again if no one showed up after 2 min. I've read through some of these reviews and noticed the owner chiming in on most of the one star reviews claiming that they check everyone's IDs if alcohol is ordered. THIS SIMPLY IS NOT TRUE. Our table of four ordered alcohol and not a single ID was asked for or checked. Alcohol was still provided to our table. Last call for yakitori or food was not posted anywhere and was not told to us prior to being seated. We would not have chosen this place had we known that the Yakitori ended at 10:30pm. I went here for the first time with my boyfriend and I was amazed by their menu and how many options they have for food. The environment is very chill and they also have different Kpop music that plays on the screen. The service is great and I would definitely come back here, my favorite part about this place is that they serve popcorn!!! And you get free refills when you drink. They have happy hour at 5 so it's very cheap for whatever it is you wanna get. I had gotten the lychee soju cocktail and it was sooo good. Sojuya is definitely a chill restaurant that serves soju and delicious Korean bar food. They had such a huge variety of food and drinks that all tasted super flavorful. The restaurant is very spacious and very easy to find. I can't wait to come back to try everything on the menu. I had the spicy stir fried squid and it was everything I was hoping for! It was sweet, savory, spicy and the squid was cooked perfectly. We had a couple bottles office pineapple soju cocktail and it was delicious! One thing I like about this place is they have the huge menu with good selections of food. Price is fair and reasonable. I'll go over recommend and not-to-get dishes: - Spicy Octopus ( 2/5 ): i love Korean spicy stir-fried and the sauce was good. But they cut the Octopus too small..way too small. 3/4 veggies in this dish for $17.99 is not fair at all. Skip it. - Tteobokki ( 4/5 ): Sauce was better than most Korean restaurant I've had. Everything cooked right. Rice cakes were chewy. Worth the try. - Yakiyori ( 4/5 ) : Skip: Scallop. Everything else was ok. Simply good 'cuz they seasoning with salt. - Spicy Snail w/ veggies ( 1/5 ): Again..way too much veggies compared to protein. Some pieces were smelly and we got really bad upset stomach after.. - Kimchi Stew ( 5/5 ): I don't know. Even I can't mess with this soup when I made it home. I love kimchi in my soup but I can't eat it by itself. - Seafood Stir-Fried with Soba Noodles ( 2/5 ) - take a look at the picture..do you know the Alphabet Pasta for kid? This place is chill vibes. We ordered the Okonomiyaki (seafood) and the Rice Cake w/ Popcorn Chicken. The Okonomiyaki was pretty good but the Rice Cake w/ Popcorn Chicken was alright. I felt that the dish was pretty cold and there was so much sauce when it was given to us. I love sauce but it was just too much on the dish. The food was cold so the dukbokki and the popcorn chicken was meh and it wasn't that good to be honest. I probably wouldn't order this dish again. The restaurant itself is pretty chill. Came here for a birthday dinner around 7pm on a Saturday night. It wasn't too busy when we first came in, but when we were leaving around 8:30-9 ish, it was pretty full. We ordered the roboki, fire chicken, and fish cake soup for 5 people to share. My boyfriend and I also ordered a single serving of the sojuya pork belly yakitori. The roboki came with rice cakes and ramen noodles in spicy sauce with fish cakes, veggies, and a hardboiled egg. I loved this dish - if you like mochi/chewy rice cakes, definitely recommend. Spice level was just right for me but might be a little too spicy if you aren't used to eating spicy things. The fire chicken came with chicken, red bell peppers, and onions with spicy sauce and cheese on top. This was even spicier than the roboki so be prepared. I really liked the flavor and cheesiness but it barely had any chicken. I think I only ate like 4 pieces of chicken. The fish cake soup was absolutely amazing. Super flavorful with just a hint of spice from the jalapenos. The veggies and fish cakes soak up a lot of the flavor from the soup so everything was just really packed with flavor. Possibly a lot of msg tho. The sojuya pork belly yakitori skewer was also pretty good - not dry or too fatty and generously dowsed in a sweet spicy sauce. Hidden gem in Cypress. Food was good, service was good, and price was really good, especially during HH (Sun-Thurs 5-8pm, Fri-Sat 5-7pm). HH is 30% off most items on the menu. We ordered the seafood yakiudon, rice cake with popcorn chicken, bulgolgi, and seafood pancake. We came during HH and only paid $15/each.. and all of us had food to take home. Portions were generous. The seafood yakiudon was my favorite entree of the night. You can request it to be made non-spicy even though it's listed on the menu as "spicy seafood yakiudon." Rice cake and popcorn chicken was a tad too sweet in my opinion but overall not bad. Bulgolgi had nice flavor. Seafood pancake I would probably not recommend- too much flour and not enough seafood. The ambiance was nice. It's nice and dim, and not too loud. Interestingly, had a Korean drama (or was it a music video?) playing in the background, on the big screen, for full Korean dining experience. This place is pretty much a Soju Bar but the food is also pretty good. We ordered the Korean pancake, gizzard, and French fries with a side of lychee yogurt soju and pitcher of beer. The lychee yogurt soju tasted alright but I would stick with just the regular soju or flavored soju with beer and not the cocktails. They have quality skewers, which is just what you need when you're enjoying some soju! We bought over 8 bottles of Soju and the owner came out to greet us and gave us a free bottle :) There's all the basic Korean foods you are looking for here! Even the dried fish and peanut appetizers that you want just to snack on. Complimentary popcorn is given when you get seated. Some of the food such as kimchi egg fried rice can be spicier than usual so be aware!! The spicy was so hot we couldn't really eat it or enjoy it. The place itself is huge with semi private rooms all the way in. They also have a bar type seating for smaller parties. I try to order something new here every time I come, but some of my must have/try are the skewers, pork belly and kimchi stir fry with tofu, the fishcake soup, okonomiyaki, and the cheese tonkatsu. Other great items I've tried and loved are the mussel soup, spicy seafood soup, soy pork belly, and the pork trotters. The portions are also generous and perfect for sharing. The food is so good here I often come just for the food and not the alcohol. SERVICE: 5/5 The service here is always on point. The servers are fast and friendly, I'm sure its very stressful dealing with a bunch of drunk idiots (myself included), but they handle them very well. The owner is also very involved. He's always there walking around checking on tables and making sure everyone is being taken care of properly. He's also just really fun to have around. Food: I can't remember the name correctly but it was the white sauce tteokbokki. Carbonara tteokbokki? Creamy with bacon bits? Smelled delicious and very big portion. Very creamy and all , which I did enjoyed. But after eating a bit of it, it becomes the same taste and becomes too much to handle. The silk worm dish was ok... very unique taste and smell. Not too strong as I imagine but it's not I dish I prefer to order. Pig feet was medium spicy and the one we ordered before was hot (temperature wise). However, this time, the dish was cold so maybe we ordered the wrong one? Tasted good still. Soju here is pretty good and a fun way to keep the night going. Service: fast pace and pretty nice people. Kinda have to hunt down the servers to get water refill here though. It's pretty busy and loud so it's hard for them to notice you immediately.
