Marinara foccacia, olive foccacia, Gruyère & mustard croissant
    Nikka C.

I've been here twice: - First time on a Sunday around noon. There was nothing but cookies left. - Second time on a Sunday around 11am. They had Foccacia, some croissants, cake, and cookies. Ratings: - Gruyère & mustard croissant (3.5/5) - Olive foccacia (4.5/5) - Marinara focaccia (4/5) - Chocolate chip cookie (3.5/5) - Lemon poppyseed cookie (3.5/5) The croissant and cookies were good but nothing to rave about. The foccacias were awesome--perfect texture and fluffiness. The olive was the best!

Line was around the corner and 1/3 way down the block 10 mins before opening (9am) on a Friday. By 9:50 they were sold out of several items I'd had my eyes on - guava tart, twice baked, choux, gougère.. We tried: Coffee Coconut Croissant Snail $7 Gruyère & Mustard Croissant $6.50 Chocolate Sourdough Cake $7 Cherry x Almond Cream Tart $11 Passion Fruit Tart $11 Everything seemed to me technically on point - the snail and croissant's lamination, the very moist cake with a slight crust for texture, the delicate tarts. Nothing was too sweet and were the smaller side which is oddly refreshing - we don't need a cloyingly sweet almond croissant the size of my face. The coffee coconut and mustard flavors were surprisingly subtle. Chocolate cake was to-die-for, with a slight salty-sweet crumble on top, for someone who doesn't love cakes. The tarts were very flavorful, different textures. Think the guava would have been more unique but we enjoyed the passionfruit and almond cherry as well. While we enjoyed these artisanal pastries and appreciate the craft, flavors didn't seem special enough for me personally to wait an hour for, with the risk of selling out of what you want. They said they bake throughout the AM so some items get replenished but a gamble for sure. We did swing by couple times on Sundays around noon and they were sold out of everything but cookies and once some sesame focaccia, but the line is only like 5-10 people deep at that hour, so worth checking if you're around!

I wanted to like Sol Bakery. The day I visited it was pouring rain. The line wrapped around the corner and went half way up Central Street. The pastries were okay - not very good...either not flaky as croissants should be (I had the sunflower cream with huckleberry jam-flat and not crisp). The guava cream choux was overly sweet. The chocolate croissant was not memorable. The cake with poppy & blood orange was like a poppy seed muffin :( In this remote (Outer Hayes) neighborhood, there's still not a lot of choice for fine pastry. Sad to say...

I was very excited to try this new spot, it's very cute inside and the staff are very nice. I tried a number of items: the chocolate chip cookie, lemon poppyseed cookie, plain croissant, and the famous guava tart. The chocolate chip cookie was chewier, not bad, I just prefer a more crispy cookie. The lemon poppyseed, has a very subtle lemon flavor I wanted to be punched in the face with lemon tartness. The plain croissant was a little too crispy for me, the outside had a good crunch but that left a lot of dry flakes in my mouth. The guava tart was very good though. It was well balanced, the guava being tart, a creamy top, and a buttery crisp tart shell. I'd try more tarts and the focaccia, but the rest was just ok.

Unfortunately they were sold out of the guava tarts and the twice-baked croissants with sunflower cream and huckleberries when we arrived around 11:20, but the silver lining was that the focaccia had just come out. We got the ramps and potato, marinara, and olive focaccia, which were great. The flavor was good and the texture and airiness of the dough was fantastic. We ordered the regular croissant and the chocolate ones. They were okay, and I would not return for them. I still want to try the twice-baked croissant with sunflower cream and huckleberries and the guava tart. The line extended around the corner and was about a 15 minute wait. The staff was friendly. At this time, they limit you to two of the same item per group. We wanted 3 chocolate croissants for our group of four, but could only get two. They explained that this allows for more people to purchase items before running out. There is one table inside if you want to eat there, but the area is small.

On a weekend afternoon, there was virtually no line, but most of their items were out. There was only chocolate chip cookies and carrot walnut cake remaining. I just tried their simple drip coffee and a chocolate chip cokie. The chocolate chip cookie still have a gooey mix of soft center and chocolate, while being overall crispy. The drip coffee was straightforward and gave me the energy I needed for the rest of the day. My friend had the opportuntity to try their carrot walnut cake and appreciated the texture and taste!

I came to try their pastries on Friday noon (was hoping to get some of their signature items but was not ready for an hour wait). By that time there were no tarts (the viral guava one and passion fruit) but the crème puff and twice baked huckleberry croissant were very good too giving the overall picture for their baking style and flavors. The custard in the puff was so tender and balanced. The crunch of croissant and the brightness of huckleberry jam was actually remarkable. I'll definitely come back to try more if I'm around. Hope they'll increase days of operation.

Ambiance: A small Bakery with limited seating where you can look and see inside them baking as you order. Wait time: Extremely long wait time ranging from 30 minutes to an hour with food selling out very quickly leaving limited options and quantities. Service: Staff was friendly and seemed happy to take orders without being overwhelmed by the sheer number of people waiting. Food: The pain au Chocolate was rather small for the price they were charging. The chocolate filling was good and flaky, but I really was expecting bigger. The chocolate sourdough cake was very flavorful despite again being smaller for the price point set. Cold Brew was extremely underwhelming and something I wouldn't recommend. Not sure if I would go back and try it again immediately considering how limited the stock was and the wait time.

delectable pastries and friendly service! Wonderful gruyere & mustard croissant and the pain au chocolat will delight! 9-3 pm Opening Day hours 4/11 Saturday. It's raining and the line is around the corner to the end of the block. Focaccia at 11:30 am.

This hole in the wall above the panhandle might be my new favorite bakery in SF. The guava tart is mindblowing - I don't know how else to describe it. The fig leaf Choux was also excellent. The gougere cheese ball was the perfect savory balance to all the sweet treats. Will be back again to try more things soon!

    Choux au craquelin
    Camille T.

We got extremely lucky with essentially no line on a Saturday morning. They kept people moving quickly and we got to try everything we were hoping for. The gougere, chocolate croissant, and chocolate chip cookie were very nice. The passion fruit tart was fine, good even, but despite my deep devotion to passion fruit, not what I'd write home about. It was the choux au craquelin (earl gray custard) that absolutely stole the show. I'd go back just for these. Our only regret was only having one.

We've only been to Sol Bakery's pop-up, but everything that we had was excellent. I really wanted to try her guava and passion fruit tarts but they were sold out by the time we got there! I will definitely be waiting in line at the shop to try them asap. As for her other pastries, everything was delicious and well balanced - focaccia was the star of the show. So fluffy and chewy!! SF has so many great bakeries, and this is definitely one of them.

A colleague told me about this place and since I live two blocks away, I had to visit. The line was ridiculously long, about an hr wait from my 8:45a arrival time. We ordered: Twice baked croissant, dry; Olive oil cake, moist but tasteless; Almond fruit tart, decent but small for the price; Polenta cake, best of the bunch. Overall, our selection was good but not great. I'd wait for things to settle down before coming out.

Yes, there's almost always a line, but don't let that discourage you--the staff keeps it moving quickly, making the wait fast and efficient. The pastries are incredibly delicious. Their giant croissants are buttery, with soft, airy layers on the inside and a perfectly crispy, flaky exterior. Every bite is heavenly! My personal favorite is the cranberry scone. It's tender, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. For the best experience, enjoy your pastries while they're still warm--they taste even better fresh out of the oven. Payment is easy since they accept both credit cards and cash. If you're a pastry lover, Arsicault Bakery is definitely a must-visit in San Francisco. We highly recommend it!

I came by on a Friday around 11 am and it was so hard to find parking. There's street parking available but it was all filled up and I ended up getting dropped off since I saw the line forming outside the bakery. The line was only formed because the bakery is relatively small and doesn't have a lot of wiggle room so they only let in one party at a time. There aren't any sit-down tables or chairs so this is a grab and enjoy somewhere else. Pastry: Kouign-amann (8.4/10): Oh this was yummy. I love a good kouign amann and Arsicault satisfied my sweet tooth. It was a little too sweet but had a good outer layer crunch and fluffy interior. Chocolate Almond Croissant (7.8/10): This one was amazing! I will say that this one is definitely on the sweeter side but it was still delicious. It's a pretty big croissant with a good crunch but not a lot of flaking :( I did really enjoy the almond paste that was smothered on the inside. My boyfriend really enjoyed this croissant and wouldn't stop talking about it for a few hours.

I went around 12:15pm on a Saturday, and the line was short (comparatively) and moved quickly! Pro tip: keep up with their instagram stories because they occasionally post live updates about the line/supply! It only took around 15 minutes to reach the front. Another tip: decide what you're going to get & some back up options (in case they sell out of your first choice options) so you don't hold up the line deciding at the cashier! I think that is the main reason the line sometimes moves slow. Because tbh once you put in your order, it takes like 3 minutes for them to pack it up. I tried 3 pastries from the July menu: Skirt Steak Croissant, Madame Lorraine, and Peach & Sweet Corn Cruffin. I also wanted to try the Bruschetta Danish, but they were sold out of that one. I was definitely most excited about the Skirt Steak from the beginning, and it was indeed my favorite! The croissant was so flakey buttery crispy, it was actually perfection. I love the chipotle aioli and arugula pesto sauces. Wow one of the best pastries I've ever eaten. The madame lorraine was my second favorite. I'm biased though because I love salty a lot more than sweet. The pork was so tasty in this one, and I really liked the parmesan toppings. I don't even like runny egg yolks, but it worked so well with this pastry. The peach & sweet corn cruffin was a little too sweet for me but the peach and corn flavors worked sooo surprisingly well. I NEED to come back to try their other pastries wow. It is 100% worth the hype.

The Peach Corn Cruffin was even more disappointing, it was more like apple than peach, the fruit was still crisp and undercooked. Crisp peach? And the cream had a sour note that threw the whole pastry off. The Bruschetta Danish was the standout of the box. The Plum Vanilla Almond Twice-Baked Croissant oddly reminded me more of a PB&J than an almond-plum pastry. The pastries definitely photograph better than they eat. I really wanted to love this place, but I don't think the hype matches the experience. Are there good pastries here? Probably... um, sure. (?) But are those worth the wait and the reputation? Not in my opinion. Sometimes the emperor really has no clothes.

I've always wanted to try this place since I see a line every time I walked by. There's a lot of foot and car traffic. It's definitely a busy area so expect to park in one of the nearby residential areas or be extremely and walk/bike/bus here! Upon stepping into the tiny shop, I was enveloped in the sweet smell of chocolate chip cookies. It was tempting to put that in my bag, but I stuck with my game plan. They do self serve for all the baked goods and drinks except the pizza and focaccia. You tell the cashier what you grabbed. There's self serve complimentary water on the side too. Got a pecan swirl, one of each square focaccia flavors, and a half pizza (hot). The pizza flavor of the day was triple mushroom with sesame ginger garlic vinaigrette and mozzarella. It was 10/10 delicious!! Do note that they don't heat up the focaccia. Personally, after tasting everything, I'd say the pizza is more worth it than the focaccia "pizzas". The pecan roll was quite addicting too. You can also skip the line if you want to order online on their website and schedule a pick up time, but my gift card didn't work so I just waited in line.
