The food and service was amazing. I wish the menu had pictures because as a first timer I wasn't really prepared for all that this place had to offer. The wait wasn't terrible - about 25 minutes which isn't bad for a holiday weekend visit. I had the banana bread French toast which I was fine with until I saw my husband's pancakes! They looked like pillows! My son had the regular French toast and that looked and tasted amazing too. My daughter is very particular about what she eats and even with all of her requests and modifications, they got it right. (She really liked it!) The only issue I had was that I think I settled for what I ordered as every plate that I saw looked better than the last one I looked at. Not sure if I will do Mystic again, but if I do, this place is one of the reasons why! read more

I have been to this place many times and I always leave with a smile. The last time I went two weeks ago I was sooo happy to see that they were able to operate outdoors. However my breakfast was terrible. The home fries (potatoes) were awful, so much paprika it was inedible! I ordered eggs light, they arrived brown over cooked. WAYYYYYY overpriced. $10.00 for the omelette, $5.75 for one pancake and $2.45 for a cup of coffee. and of course tax. Never again ! I felt like I got robbed. My food was just OK. We were excited because there was a line, suggesting that this is a popular place. The wait wasn't too long. Our food, however, took a while to get to us and when it did, unfortunately it disappointed. The linguiça sausage in our Portuguese omelet was much too smoky and vinegary, throwing off the balance of the dish. The home fries were basically boiled potatoes pieces briefly heated in some pork-based fat; there was no crisp to them whatsoever. Even the white toast was spongy, suggesting that it had been made in advance and had sat until its time had come to be put on a plate. Kind of sad by the service I received. The atmosphere seemed really nice, the food was pretty good, they have an open coffee and tea bar. Ordered a house special omelet, came with roasted pork, banana peppers, red onion, spinach, tomatoes and feta. Got it, no spinach. They also forgot the chocolate milk ordered by one of us at the table and had to be reminded.We had been waiting 20 minutes to get seated, and another 20 for our food, so I let my server know it was missing spinach and they offered to cook some for me. I declined, because I was hungry, and just wanted to eat it. Asked if there was another option, maybe knock a few bucks off the bill. She said she would check, and came back in 10 minutes to tell me they magically had the spinach on the stove for me, and had just forgotten to put it in the omelet, putting a plate of spinach next to me. I thanked her, and let her know I didn't want it as I was done with my food at this point. We also do low carb, so we opted out of toast and home fries. The money they saved in our dietary preferences would have offset comping us spinach. I even ordered extra bacon and paid an upcharge. Sigh. It was good, but not that good. This cafe is tucked away in a small plaza so it doesn't look like much from outside. Once you make your way inside, you'll see that it's actually a really charming, vintage-looking cafe. We stopped in for some breakfast before hitting the road. The waiter was really nice and checked in on us a few times during our meal. Coffee and hot tea were self serve (and refillable), which was a nice touch. I had french toast with a side of homefries and sausage. Hands down, best french toast I have ever had. The sourdough bread I think was too much for the amount of egg and spinach and I had a lot of leftover bread, but it was fine. Nothing extraordinary. One the best low key breakfast places I've been to in a while!! My friends who live in the area took me and I am planning on going back despite the long drive, it's worth it! 1. The food was great. Quick but well cooked. They have really good specials that are worth trying, plus a good sized menu. The breakfast was cheaper than expected yet the portions were quite generous. 2. They have some great coffee flavor selections and it's all so it yourself at their coffee bar. Probably my favorite part is when you buy coffee it's bottomless cup plus one to go! Finally a breakfast place that doesn't charge per cup or skimp on you. 3. The cafe is somewhat small but still has good seating, and the decorations creates a calming ambiance perfect for a relaxing breakfast. 4. Biggest thing to know before going is they DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT OR DEBIT CARDS. So, we walked in. Saw an ATM machine and I asked a girl if they took cards and she replied that they did not and scurried away. So that's two strikes already. We walked in and it seemed cozy and cute. We got a table and sat down. The only good thing about this place was the "To-Go" coffee, which was sub par. After waiting for ohhh, 20 minutes or so, some young girl came over, didn't tell us her name and asked what we wanted. She didn't even TRY to talk to us. Hey, maybe the place was more of a townie diner, but have some common decency! We waited for another half hour or so, I'm not even kidding. We finally get our food and we all held our breaths before digging in. The food was NOT good whatsoever. No flavor or spice. My plate was some "Hocus Poachus" and it was the size of my fist. Not filling at all. Before we could even finish our meal, the waitress came over and just slapped the check down on the table. What the heck???? Who does that! Not to mention, the whole time we were eating, the waitresses were discussing and not even paying attention or going over to any customer to ask how the food was. It's a cute little restaurant and the coffee is self serve. However, the food was alright. I had the country scramble and it was very bland. I barely ate half of it. My husband had the huevos rancheros, and was very disappointed. Couldn't even finish it. I guess it doesn't help that he is hispanic. On to the service. There are a few options in the driving area that is similar, Kitchen Little comes to mind, but this is a solid option. Love the coffee selections. Cash only is kind of annoying but its Somewhere in Time, so 1950's it is. Cons: Service is hit or miss, some are GREAT, some are summer people earning a paycheck. A little greasier than I expected. Found this little gem on Yelp. We have been at a convention in Foxwood Casino and have been getting tired of the homogenized and overpriced choices there. This restaurant is about a 20 minute drive, and certainly worth it. Generous portions (but not obscene) cute simple atmosphere. Very delicious food. The set up of the restaurant makes it incredibly confusing to take care of customers. It is sit yourself and once you do the waitress' will bring you a menu and take care of your order. This is hectic during the busiest times of the week, if they don't see you sit down you could be sitting down for almost 10-15 minutes before anyone even notices you're there. And since the coffee is self serve if you're sitting behind the station there will be people constantly moving behind you. My suggestion would be make sure to sit in the front of the restaurant so you are served promptly and they notice you're arrival. read more

The place is usually really busy which makes me wonder who is eating here, and how on earth this place has 4 stars. The servers aren't rude, but neither are they engaged or helpful. The guest gets their own coffee? There were three of us, one of us was 12 years old, and our bill including tip was $65. When the check arrived at the table, it was illegible, and no charge for any of the food was on it, and you have to get up again to pay a cashier. They had 5-6 different coffee flavors to choose from and you pour your own at the counter before seating yourself. Many different options for breakfast. They have a ton of "scrambles". My husband had the House (eggs scrambled with sweet potato, ham, broccoli and cheddar). Lick your plate clean. I had egg whites with spinach and jalapeño. The home fries were small cut potatoes so they got them nice and crispy on all sides. Service was great. Friendly and prompt. Food comes out quickly. I had the French toast special which was Lemon Poppyseed French toast covered in sliced strawberries. I ordered a side of vegetable sausage. Do you remember I said you could eat healthy? They had plenty of healthy sides. The moment they put the 4 half slices of French toast down in front of me, I could smell the lemon. It was very tasty. It looked like Italian bread but not exactly sure. It was thinly sliced. The veggie sausage consisted of 2 small patties that were overcooked. The strawberries were ripe and tasty. The carved turkey sandwich with stuffing and cranberry sauce was a huge hit at the table. The service was very good and friendly. The prices were very reasonable. We were headed to Mystic Aquarium, on Memorial Day Weekend. What were we thinking? We did our Yelp research, for a local place that was open early. We found, Somewhere In Time, only 5 minutes from the aquarium! When we got there, the parking lot was packed. We were lucky enough to get the last table. This is a cash only establishment, but there is an ATM available, outside of the entrance. My husband chose the Buffalo Chicken Hash Omelette, off of the specials menu. I decided on the Irish (Corned Beef & Hash) Omelette (off of the everyday menu). The meals came quickly and the portions were huge. The omelettes were fluffy, full and perfect! There wasn't the slightest bit of brown (burn) on the eggs. The homefries, while not your traditional cut, were very tasty. We ordered the endless cups of coffee, in to-go cups. Our only complaint would be the "special" Maple Bacon. With only a hint of maple flavor, at $3.75 for 3 pieces...not such a great deal. We don't visit the area often, but we would definitely stop by Somewhere In Time again. read more

If you are in Mystic for the site you might be looking for a spot for breakfast. Somewhere in Time is definitely worthy of consideration. First of all it's not on the water. Actually, with a beautiful barn across the street it seems more like a piece of Vermont as opposed to southern Connecticut. The menu is pretty varied and has a number of imaginative breakfast offerings. I had a special that was a variation of one of their regular offerings. Hash browns with a tomato,onion and linguica cover, topped with cheese and 2 eggs over easy. I liked the concept but the onions and tomato were chopped a bit coarse and under cooked to my liking. The eggs were perfect! The toast was pretty much whole wheat wonder bread, so no points gained there. I did like the decor. 1950's Formica tables with appropriate period seating.. . Fits into the Vermont thing. Service was great. Coffee and tea are ok and self serve and it's cash only. Go for it! read more

What a great place with a great menu and creative specials. My whole family found this breakfast gem on a weekend visit to mystic. The cornbread french toast was fantastic, accompanied by buffalo hash browns. the gluten free options caught my wife's eye and the fruit & pancakes kept my daughters happy. The "get your own coffee" was a nice idea so you could pick your own flavor of tea or coffee from the variety available and refill yourself whenever needed, even when headed out the door The food, service and friendliness of the staff was so fantastic that we returned the very next day for breakfast #2.
