Forever and always our favorite breakfast spot. We've been coming here for YEARS. We love all the staff and their food so are always returning no matter how many times we've been. They always have a variety of roasted coffee flavors brewed on their coffee bar as well as creative specials and fresh baked muffins. If you love the coffee you can even get beans to go!! We especially love the steak and eggs, French toast specials, and the coffee! It's gotten more expensive over the years but the quality has always been there to justify it. Somewhere in time cafe was pretty good. They can be quite busy on the weekends so plan to wait 30 minutes or arrive earlier than 930. The menu was pretty good they also offer some daily specials. Started off with chocolate milk and orange juice- both good For breakfast the bluberry waffles with almond butter. My only complaint with those is that is so thick it was hard to eat Definitely better with syrup. The omlette I got was pretty good. I had sausage, avacado, cheese and tomato. Very skimpy on the avacado. I had like 5 small pieces in the omlette. However it tasted good. read more

Very cute and quaint atmosphere. It's like you stepped into a Time Machine put in a good way. Lots of gluten-free options and amazing ones too. Quite the menu to choose from. We went there with our family who is mostly gluten-free and the service was fantastic and the food was absolutely out of this world. What a great concept.. Get your own coffee. Mugs there, coffee there and no waiting around for a waitress to bring you more coffee. Love it. Breakfast was everything I needed it to be. Plenty of food, pleasant staff and the crowd there too, were entertaining. People in CT tend to be louder in speak and want other tables to hear their life stories. I'll start with the good... The food was absolutely delicious. This place is really welcoming and the environment is a fusion of kitchen dining and a small town bakery. The food was delicious and makes up for the negatives I'll get to shortly. I ordered the burrito with added avocado. There was a subtle kick (I'm guessing from the sausage) but only subtle because it's buried underneath so much flavor. I enjoyed every bite and though I'd wanted another, the portion was more than filling. To reiterate what's been mentioned in other reviews, the home fries are pretty special...plenty of seasoning without tasting over-seasoned. My wife ordered a bacon egg and cheese with avocado on a gluten free English muffin. I want to commend the cafe for having the GF option. It's increasingly more available but not often delicious and Someplace in Time really got it right. Lastly, take advantage of the coffee to go option! Now, the bad... Flies come with the territory with outdoor seating, but there should be traps or something for the indoor eaters. It took away from the eating experience every time we had to swat flies which happened frequently. The floors were gross. Maybe they had a really busy morning but needless to say I averted my eyes in order to maintain my appetite. Same goes for the door knobs. Sounds like I'm nitpicking but the home-y ambiance is only nice when it's a clean 'home.' We read ahead so we knew to bring cash, but that's a pet peeve of mine. It's 2015...I get that you don't want to pay fees on the cards and you get to be more flexible in reporting profits, but it sucks for consumers. All in all, definitely check this place out. Hubby and I recently went for early breakfast, our first time here as we had read about it in the local paper. There is a strange entrance off to the side even though there is a front door into the place. There were only a few other patrons and the place was ice cold as the air conditioners blasted out cold air and we had to find a table that was not in the stream of cold air. The portions are huge. My ham and cheese omelet was just ok, the eggs were rubbery. Hubby's western omelet ingredients were soupy, and the egg was runny inside. We ordered a side of home fries that came partially burnt yet ice cold and sent them back with our refusal for another order. My toast had an added charge because it was whole grain! All this poor-quality food cost $40, including the tip which we gave since the waitress service was prompt and helpful. Disappointing experience. Another one bites the dust! Somewhere in Time cafe on the Gold Star highway in Old Mystic USED to be one of my favorite places to have breakfast or lunch because the food is dependably good, service has always been friendly and efficient and the food prices are fair and reasonable. However, the owner/manager Gwen McGugan seems to have forgotten how to listen to customers complaints nor believe they deserve any merit when without any explanation, food is delivered wrong and over an hour late. On Friday, October 21, 2022, I along with two friends met around noon for lunch at Somewhere in Time. The restaurant was busy and after about 10 minutes the waitress Susan finally took our order. As we waited, we noticed one by one every other nearby table that was already seated have their food delivered and in some cases finish their meals. About 30 minutes after we placed out order, Susan comes to our table and asks us "what did you order again"? Another 20 minutes goes by with newly seated patrons that arrived after us were already being served their meals, I got up and searched out our waitress and asked her for an explanation as to what was happening to our order, since she never came to our table to offer why we were without any food for almost 50 minutes. Susan repeated "your food will be right up" and I asked her again, can you please give me an explanations as to what has happened to our order but she refused. Finally, just past an hour seating at Somewhere in Time our food arrived, with the food order cooked incorrectly and not what we asked for. Clearly tho, something happened to our order, whether it simply got lost in the shuffle, Susan somehow messed up ( likely ) or some reason besides just being busy. Not explaining the reason nor keeping us informed as the status of our order in inexcusable. When we left I asked to speak to the manager and Gwen McGugan and I stepped outside for a discussion. I explained what happened, saying I asked our waitress for an explanation as to why our order taking so long without her ever offering any kind of condolence or excuse. I said that we all have bad days and I understand these things happen and I have no ill feeling towards the busy waitress but to ignore our request for a simple explanations is unacceptable. When I suggested that offering some words of explanation to customers when there is clearly some kind of mix up with their order is appropriate, she retorted what I don't need to tell her how to run her business and she's been in this occupation for 25 years. All I wanted was the waitress to honestly address the delay with keeping by us informed about our order and give a straightforward explanation when one is asked. Evidently, Ms McGugan thinks this is a bit too much to ask or expect...common courtesy, respect and appreciation for repeat customers. A decent, conscientious and concerned owner would have listened to my story and learned from the incident to better their business that depends of providing good customer service instead of becoming belligerent, condescending and defensive. Yes, Somewhere in Time must refer to Gwen's lack of concern for yours or mine. read more

A walk inside, and you're greeted with a little wait, but it's short and you're invited to go inside and grab yourself a mug and get started on your coffee while you wait. Once inside, you're greeted by 50s and 60s kitchen furniture and a feeling like you're in your mom's or grandma's kitchen. The food choices for breakfast/brunch were creative and well done. There were also more typical breakfast dishes as well, and everyone of those I saw come out of the kitchen looked great. I had a special that consisted of tortillas folded in the shape of boats and turned on the griddle so they stayed that way, some rice, taco seasoned sausage and a perfect scramble with avocado. My family and I we're visiting mystic Connecticut for a few days, I didn't want to eat breakfast at the hotel so I found this little cafe, and fell in love with the decor and charm of the place. The service was excellent, and what I loved is that they had an all access coffee area, which I rarely see anywhere any more. If you wanted to pour your coffee in a mug, it was there, disposable cups...there, they even had various types of coffee for you to try :) The food was fresh, and delicious, and the coffee was fresh as well. The only con that I have is that they didn't have a changing table in the bathroom, which is rare because I saw many families with infants dinning. They also make there bake goods fresh at the cafe. But I would defiantly go back, and if I was a mystic resident that would be my local coffee spot! :) read more

Such a great place. We found this on a fluke and glad we did. Clean and accommodating during COVID. Had a delicious "House" breakfast and quickly (we were a bit short on time). My Dad and I came here after our hotel did not serve a breakfast. This place is a real treat! Everyone was so warm and friendly. Sometimes when you go to local places people look at you like "who is this" but not here! The food was Soo good! I had a goat cheese omlet that was amazing and the home fries were so tasty too! Me and the hubby go to Mystic often, and this is one of our go-to's for breakfast. It is a small charming place. You may have to wait a little bit, but you can grab some coffee while you wait. The menu has all your ordinary breakfast items, but also some out of the ordinary delicious specials. There is a specials board with a pancake and french toast of the week. Don't miss it. The service was friendly and fast. You start off with do it yourself coffee and drinks, which is actually nice. You don't have to wait around for a coffee refill. My son had the chocolate chip pancakes, which was 2 huge pancakes that were absolutely delicious. Hubby had a garden scramble which he said was amazing. I had the banana bread french toast. Oh my Gawd! It was unbelievable. I had a side of bacon that was cooked to perfection. If you are looking for a little nostalgia with a side of damn good breakfast, this is your place! I stopped in here this morning and ordered a breakfast burrito to go. It was only about a five minute wait and the moment I opened the container when I got in my car I couldn't believe it didn't take longer! This thing weighed 2 pounds easily and that's a light estimation. I had to stop somewhere to eat it because I couldn't eat it with one hand. The only downside was that I didn't think I needed utensils but boy I was wrong. About a third of it filled me up, and then I had another third for lunch, and still have some left over. Do yourself a favor and go get the best breakfast burrito for your money, you won't regret it! As for the rest of the place it looked super cute, I wasn't there for long enough to get a good look around but first impression was warm, cozy, and great customer service! The waitress was very nice. The food was so so. The place came highly recommended and is decorated very nicely. We really wanted to love the food but just didn't. My husband did not like the sausage with gravy which is a first. My egg sandwich was truly not good. It was super dry, the egg was way over cooked, the bagel was dry toasted (I expected it to be grilled) and over toasted. The home fries were tasty but chopped so small they were like crumbs of potatoes.The avocado toast only came with avocado on one piece of toast and didn't taste ripe enough. We had to ask for avocado for the other piece of toast and were charged $1.75 for it. It's not the $1.75 it's just odd that you serve avocado toast (2 pieces) but not enough avocado to eat on your toast. The French toast was o-k, a bit dry. I think because they did not put the typical small dab of butter on top for you to spread on it. I ordered one slice of French toast to try, I was charged $4.75 for one slice which is very pricy. Unfortunately we didn't have a great experience I gave it 3 stars because the staff was nice and the place is cute. Food wise I would have given it 2 stars. I truly wish we had a better experience than we did for $55 for breakfast. read more

I've lived in Mystic for a few years now and I love this place! It has a really friendly atmosphere and always has great food. Their specials are always different and I can always count on a delicious variety of coffee. Most recently I had the Hocus Pochus, which was two pouched eggs atop two pieces of sour dough toast with cheese, spinach and tomatoes. Very yummy! I've also had their pancakes and omelets which have all been top notch. It's cash only, but unlike Kitchen Little they have an ATM on the premises so you don't have to awkwardly run to the gas station to get some $$. My only issue was trying to find this place! I imput the address into my GPS when my father was visiting and we drove around all of Old Mystic looking for it. We ended up going to Friendly's. An unfortunate end for vacation. My wife and I stopped in looking for a local breakfast place with gluten sensitive options for her. We were greeted instantly and waited about 5 min to be seated which wasn't bad at all. From there we were asked what we would like to drink. My wife stated a small orange juice and a coffee and I had a chai. The server stated she is welcome to help herself to coffee while she got the drinks but did not indicate where the coffee was located. Not the worst thing in the world but would be helpful to know where to go rather than wander in a fairly busy place we've never been to. The drinks were presented to us by a different server who simply walked away after doing so. Following this, a third server took our order and we ordered French toast for myself and a gluten free grilled cheese for her. We indicated it was an allergy to which she assured this would be prepared separately as to not be cross contaminated. Here's the important part; we waited for nearly 35-40 minutes for anyone to see us after that point. My wife even noted that a table across from us who had come in after had already received their food which was substantially more than ours. We also noted they were regulars based on the conversation with their server welcoming them back for their 8th year in and perhaps that's why they received the order faster. We were then approached by the third server from the above mentioned wait who asked, "did you all get your food?" To which we stated we did not. She replied, "I didn't think so, let me go check." We were then left for another 10 minutes until the first server brought us our food. After finishing the meal we were quickly met with the first server again who stated she would grab the check. This was the quickest part of the experience which took maybe 2 min. When presented with the check, she stated the drinks were taken off due to the wait. While it was appreciated, the drinks taken off were the $2 orange juice and a $4 chai vs. a $30 meal. Now by all means we're not asking for any handouts nor did anyone have to comp anything as we did not ask for anything to be credited. Based on what transpired however, we felt it could've been handled a little better. Food wise, unfortunately the French toast for me had hints of onion/peppers that were prepared in the same area as omelettes but it was not bad. For my wife however, the grilled cheese had in fact been cross contaminated leading to her feeling sick afterwards. We assume it was rushed to be made upon realizing the food was never made to begin with. Whether it be from staffing shortages, where we were seated, or just because it may be busier than they're accustomed; based on this experience and lack of care for allergies/ preparation/ delivery of food as well as service we can not recommend this place or return in the future. read more

The only reason why I am giving it four instead of five stars is because while you wait to be seated, there's no heater or anything.
