While at dinner, my cousin was reminiscing for the fish pastry filled with soft serve ice cream, and I pointed out Somi Somi just opened nearby in Diamond Jamboree, next to 85 Degrees. We both agreed that we HAD to check it out for dessert. On the night of our visit, their menu flavors displayed were milk, matcha, milk tea, black sesame, ube and oreo. We asked to try the three swirl variations to decide on which flavor we liked and we were able to try all of them except the milk tea because they were out. My cousin decided to get the Ah-Boong ($5.95) with Ube and Matcha soft served swirled with a nutella fillings. I decided to get the Ah-Boong ($5.95) with Milk and Sesame soft served swirled with a custard filling. As we waited, we watched the staff members make the fish shaped pastry shell. They put great effort to make the presentation look great, and they had fans to cool the pastry down before putting in the filling and soft serve so it does not melt instantly. My cousin and I were both really satisfied with our tasty treats. It was exactly what we were in the mood for. We actually both finished the whole thing even though we were full from dinner. I would definitely come back, but this could be a pricey habit. read more

I went on Monday night & there was more parking in the parking structure! Diamond Jamboree is always busy in the evening & lots of desserts & food places to go all in the same plaza. You'll definitely see lots of UCI students. I got the Guava & Matcha swirl with the custard taiyaki on top. The ice cream itself is very smooth & creamy & never fails. The only thing I was disappointed at was how the guava was not too prominent in flavor. It's definitely more mild but was still pretty tasty overall. The fish was more crunchy & bready. If you want a more soft texture, I would go for the regular taiyaki without any ice cream, I usually get the cheese & custard if I got taiyaki by itself. read more

There are a lot of SomiSomi locations now and I'd say this is pretty consistent w the others. (I frequent the one in ktown/LA mostly). I got the milk tea+sesame swirl and it was good.... BUT nothing beats the ube. I should've tried the flavors before committing. Hahaha but I can't complain! Ice cream is always delicious. :) I have a preference for lighter ice cream. The ice cream here is on the thicker side. Again, not bad by any means - just preference. I love the taiyaki it's comes in! Always perfectly chewy and kinda crispy? At the end of the line where you pick up your ice cream order, they ask if you want any toppings. If going w ube, I recommend the fruity pebbles. :) This place has a gender neutral restroom and a standing bar to enjoy your ice cream. There's also free parking. read more

good spot! however the closing team working 8/3 gave us cold and stale taiyaki. also, not giving any of our 4 ice creams the included macaron, when we could see the macaron container was fully stocked right next to them... otherwise love this place, but maybe more training and consistency amongst service and staff read more

Mediocre taiyaki. After negotiating the bad drivers and overly-busy Diamond Jamboree parking lot, I made my way inside this location one weekday evening. I think most people come here for the Ah-Boong (soft serve ice cream in a fish-shaped waffle cone) but I desired the other item they sell - taiyaki (fish-shaped waffles with a creamy filling). I purchased two, one with custard and the other with nutella. They cook to order so it took about 5 minutes. They were removed from the waffle iron and presented with lots of excess waffle that cooked beyond the imprint. Visually it looked like a mess. They should be embarrassed to present them this way. Taste-wise the waffle had a good flavor but was not crunchy; it was soft and borderline mushy. The fillings were good but, in my opinion, somewhat meager. There is no seating inside but there is some patio seating. My advice is to stick to the soft serve. read more

I had high hopes for this place because of their gorgeous Instagram photos, but this taiyaki was just okay. You can either get filled taiyaki or a taiyaki "cone" filled with soft serve ice cream in unique flavors. We opted for two of the traditional filled taiyaki and got each filled with red bean paste (adzuki) and vanilla cream. This place was just okay because they definitely undercooked the taiyaki and the fillings were not evenly distributed. We bit into each fish and it had the texture of tapioca instead of being fully crispy and cooked like a waffle. It took a while to get to the bottom, where all the filling was located. At least the price was good: 2 taiyaki for $3.50ish. Very busy place! Expect to stand in line. read more

This place is delicious! My friend had recommended this place and seeing that they had milk tea soft serve, I was sold! Came here on a Saturday afternoon and there was a small wait, but not too bad. I was interested in the matcha, the sesame, and the taro soft serve flavors, but was a little sad the milk tea flavor could only be swirled with the milk soft serve. Oh well, next time! Service was friendly and my order came out quickly. Love that you can watch them make the fresh taiyaki and squeeze the soft serve into it. So exciting! The soft serve was super smooth and creamy, and milk tea flavor was so good! Taiyaki was crispy and warm with a layer of delicious custard. I loved it! New-ish Somi Somi location in Diamond Jamboree. Been to the Irvine Spectrum location several times and in terms of size, this is just a tad bit bigger. There is standing room available but no seats. We were lucky to arrive about 10 minutes before a line started to build up out the door around 8pm. The hubby and I always order the 2 for $3.50 taiyaki (because we never agree on the same filling) and a side of ice cream in a cup to share ($3.75). The perfect amount to satisfy our sweet tooth! The swirl flavors are updated weekly and differ by location. Parking will be a nightmare during the weekends but there is an additional lot to the right of H-Mart and a parking structure. read more

Super cute spot for easy dessert. The soft serve ice cream flavors are Asian-inspired (black sesame, matcha, etc.). The milk flavor is better than a regular vanilla, in my opinion. There are rotating swirl options too. You can order a taiyaki fish waffle filled with flavors like Nutella or red bean. Then they add the soft serve ice cream on top like a cone. All for under $6! Parking is a mess because Diamond Jamboree is a mess. Godspeed. I have nothing to compare this to because I just recently realized I like soft serve and I haven't been to any other SOMISOMI locations, but I thought it was good! The service is quick and you can sample flavors which rocks. I chose the oreo soft serve and nutella filling in my taiyaki. The soft serve is kind of a lot so the second time I asked for less (I ended up wiping off a good portion of it bc it was too filling still). The nutella is tasty and the taiyaki is nice and freshly made. You can choose between a macaron and a strawberry for the top too and the strawberries always look pretty fresh. This is kind of drippy also so get some napkins. This also takes some aesthetic pics so take them before it gets drippy. read more

A very highly elevated soft serve creation worth the long lines, and the parking nightmare that this shopping plaza can be. A delightful treat with fun flavors and a creative twist is what the lines are all about here at this Little Tokyo location. The star of the show is the soft-serve ice cream, which is a great thing. The straightforward menu is not overwhelming, but the aroma of the freshly made accompaniment is what draws the crowds, or maybe it's just the Instagramable charm that patrons standing outside with their mobile phones. Nonetheless, SomiSomi serves excellent soft-serve with a texture that rivals a touch of gelato creaminess, and a perfect balance of over-run. read more

Went into store and there was one customer waiting for her already placed order. The associate on duty did not greet us or say wait she just stared at us and left us at the counter and when the other customer got their order and left she still did not say anything or even can you wait I'll be back she just stood in back and looked at us through glass window we felt unwanted as customer and went to 85 next door bc I was bother and didn't understand why we weren't helped when no customers we there but us I came back to ask for her name and all she said was why Rude staff 0 stars if Yelp would allow that read more

Come on a weekday, it gets insane on weekends esp on weekend nights. Softserve by itself will run about $4+ tax, and with the taiyaki its going to be $6. Good stuff, friendly staff, definitely check it out when you're around the area. read more

This place is super popular at rush hour, and being in one of the busiest plaza in the area, expect some crowds and some wait! I love their milk soft serve here. It is really good so I highly recommend coming here for a cold treat after dinner or just any occasion really. The only thing I wish they do make is for their taiyaki to be hot and fresh. That's the fish shape waffle shell. I've had the taiyaki with soft serve at other places before and they do make theirs fresh and crunchy on the edges, and it is really good. I wish they do make them like that here because all the waffles are stale and cold read more

Great place for ice cream taiyaki! Creamy ice cream that pairs very well with the flaky taiyaki. My favorite flavor is the classic Milk flavor ice cream with the Custard taiyaki. I also love coming here to get taiyaki without the ice cream. Getting a warm cheddar taiyaki is a great choice for a savory treat. The staff was nice and friendly and the place is super chill. There isn't really seating inside the place but it's fine. read more

Got the matcha/black sesame swirl with Takayuki. The matcha definitely overpowered the black sesame. At the end when you add toppings, you can ask to add a macron. They were pretty fast, but no seating, standing table only. read more

Had the milk tea and sesame swirl ice cream, with Nutella filling taiyaki. I can't really tell the flavors difference between milk tea and sesame. The Nutella filling taiyaki was amazing! The taiyaki was freshly made, was still warm. We picked the graham cracker and Oreo crumbs as toppings. The warm taiyaki with cold ice cream were a perfect combo. Made a stop for dessert here. I tried both the ice cream and the nutella and custard taiyaki fish. They were both delicious! The ice cream flavor that I chose was the milk tea. It had a good milk tea taste to the ice cream and it was not overly creamy or too sweet. The best part is the end when you have melted ice cream in the taiyaki fish cone. I also ordered the nutella and custard filled taiyaki. These are made to order so they come out super fresh and the the filling is just the right amount. The employees are nice and super helpful as they allowed me to sample all the flavors I wanted to before settling on the ice cream of my choice. I would definitely come back for more somi somi! read more

The Diamond Jamboree is the best place to eat They have japanese curry, milk teas, icecream, dimsum and so much more! It was my first time trying the matcha oreo ice cream @somisomi and it was AMAZING!!! Ah Boong (The taiyaki fish) ! I got the milk and matcha swirl with the custard filling and oreo topping. The warm gold fish and the cold soft serve was so good. SomiSomi is my favorite for soft serve ice cream. Creamy and not too sweet from my experience here. This location has six flavors and seems to regularly rotate the flavors too!! I am not from the area and came here twice in the last two weeks. I like it so much that I still chose SomiSomi on the second visit despite the other dessert options around. I like to get their soft serve with an upside down taiyaki with custard. You can add toppings to your soft serve and you can choose between a macaron shell or small slice of strawberry with it. read more

I have literally been to SomiSomi so many times and have yet to leave a review. I LOVE SomiSomi, it is the perfect dessert to share with someone (or not) but I always share with my bf and we are always satisfied. We typically always get a swirl of some sort (usually milk with a seasonal flavor) and then we usually do either a Nutella filling or red bean filling. One time we got extra Nutella filling (lol) and that was overload. The soft serve is always creamy and delicious, the taiyaki is crispy yet chewy every time and the lil added toppings give it that extra oomph. SomiSomi, you never miss. read more

My husband and I really loved the boba. But at 100% sweet, the drink was wayyy too sweet that we had to dilute it with water. Next time I would get half sweet. It had a very nice black tea flavor that shone through which is unique from other boba shops.
