Stumbled into this small Somisomi off Sawtelle as a was looking for a frozen yoghurt. That in itself was rare and perhaps even rarer is finding a parking space on Sawtelle. I parked on Mississippi and was intrigued by this joint. I walked in and after finding out what was gluten free and lactose free, I got a cup of pistachio, which was my father's favorite flavor. It was very creamy and I enjoyed the subtle.
Another amazing return. I got the matcha and cookies and cream swirl this time and it was delicious. It hits everytime and I think for the price they give a generous amount I can barely finish it. I think you could literally split it with someone. Staff was great and fast service!
Yet another beautiful day at somi somi :) I can never decide between the soft serve and getting the takiyaki. Maybe one day I'll choose one or the other. Today is not the day.
actually soso good. the ice cream swirl was amazing. the nutella filling was so good too. the service was quick and easy as you order thru a tablet & they call out ur name afterwards. its a cool casual dessert spot!
I've been a long time fan of Somi Somi, their fish shaped bungeoppang filled with custard (& other flavors) is the best! It was a hot day in Sawtelle, so we decided to stop by for a sweet treat. They have a great variety of fillings to choose from : red bean, black sesame, custard, Nutella. Plus they also have variety of soft serve flavors, which they also have a weekly flavor sometimes and are always fun to try. Service was quite quick, we waited about 10 minutes since they make the bungeoppang fresh. Totally worth it for that warm, crisp bungeopang with creamy filling inside. Perfect spot for when you're craving a sweet dessert
Unique flavors! Fish-shaped waffle cone (taiyaki)! Fast service! The menu is simple. You have 3 options for ice cream: in a cup (no waffle fish), upside down (in a cup with an upside down waffle fish), or ah boong (waffle fish as the cone). I got black sesame upside down with a matcha custard filling in my taiyaki. There wasn't a lot of filling, but I really liked the taiyaki. It was fresh and crispy. Black sesame ice cream is one of my favorites - not too sweet. Husband got banana pudding and he was so happy. It's hard to find good, simple banana ice cream. There was a line, and only 2 tablets for you to order, but once you place your order, it was ready quickly. Follow their IG page for the week's flavors and swirls. Highly recommend!
Somisomi is always a reliable spot to get a sweet treat! The soft serve is perfectly rich and creamy without making you feel too heavy. We ordered the Milk & Ube soft serve with an upside down Taiyaki filled with black sesame. The two paired well together, but we will order the Taiyaki on the side next time because they put more filling when it's on the side. This location is quite small and gets very busy, but Sawtelle is like that so you should already know what you're getting into!
I love somisomi! It's too bad that they ran out of macarons when I went. Otherwise, the store is clean, service is fast enough, and there's plenty of seating
Came on a Friday evening around 8pm and it wasn't too packed. Parking was a bit hard to find though but there are nearby parking structures. There's street parking but all of them were taken. Once your in, you can order through an app and they even have barcodes for nutrition and allergens. The ambience was average, not too loud and the staff was friendly. It was super easy to order and the Taiyaki were delicious.
Came here with friends and tried a few different flavors. The matcha and black sesame was pretty good; both tasted strongly of matcha and black sesame and were creamy. The taiyaki is consistently decent. The service was fine, but the Sawtelle location is pretty small and doesn't have a lot of seating, which can be hard for larger groups. The ambiance was nice and clean.
My son loves Somisomi! We came back on 2/11/26. Service is friendly and quick. The soft serve is delicious. My son likes the ube and cookies and cream flavors. Their toppings are nice addition to the cup and they make it so cute too. Fast food type of place.
We came here to order taiyaki for the office, about 50 of them. Had the softserve with the fish cone while waiting. The milk softserve was really good. I had paired it with the cone, black sesame filling and oreo crumbles over top + a strawberry. It took a while for the taiyaki which makes sense since they could only make 10 at a time. In the beginning they were handing us open boxes as they finished which kept the taiyaki crispier but halfway through they were just closing the boxes and packing them in a bag which was a bit unfortunate because those ended up steaming in their boxes, shrank and got kind of floppy. It was understandable though since we ordered so many. We had the custard, red bean, nutella, matcha and black sesame. The only one I might not order again is the black sesame. I love black sesame but that was a LOT of black sesame filling and felt like a bit too much.
Sawtelle is a staple for great food in LA. I love cruising through and choosing something new to try every time. Whether it's ramen, Mexican food, boba, dessert, or even the beautiful nursery's, Somisomi is one of the best finds I've had. I enjoy the beautiful balance of a flavorful dessert with the just right amount of sweetness that sits light in your stomach. I've been to this little hidden gem several times since my first visit and I try new flavors (change seasonally) most times but the matcha is my favorite. They have several toppings available and the final cute addition of a strawberry or baby macaron on top. All the flavors (ube, cookies and cream, milk, black sesame, matcha) I've tried have been perfectly balanced in their own ways, and so creamy. You have the option of adding the goldfish shaped waffle cone and it's so delicious, warm and crispy! You can order the taiyaki stuffed with other fillings, I highly suggest the red bean, custard and oreo. So good and definitely worth the money. This location gets packed but the service is quick, and you order from a tablet. Small location but can fit several people during busy times. Definitely a wonderful addition to Sawtelle.
This is my absolute favorite dessert spot !!!! The upside down ahbong is my friends favorite. I love the taiyaki which is a hit filled mochi! The custard and cheddar are so so good!!! There's small seating outside and standing room as well! On the weekend it can get pretty busy like 20-30 minute wait, but it's worth it!! Also lactose friendly soft serve. Love that it's quick self ordering on the iPad as well! Very clean and bright inside. read more
First time trying SomiSomi and it was so fun! I picked the coffee and black sesame combo soft serve with some graham cracker and sprinkles topping The ice cream was so good and fish cone was the perfect compliment. They are generous with the ice cream serving! The only complaint was the sprinkles were so hard and felt grainy when you bit into it...I had to wait for them to melt a bit to be enjoyable But regardless, I'll definitely be back! read more

Highly, highly recommend. This place is so good. The ice cream isn't overly sweet. Very Creamy, light. Not heavy. The taiyaki is fresh, made right in front of you. The strawberry milk is also very fresh. I wish they'd open one near where I lived. read more
line was long, but started to die down later in the night. not surprised tho since tons of students always hang out in sawtelle. there isn't much room inside and it gets loud, so i'd def plan on eating outside / elsewhere. the employees were very friendly (i'd never have the patience to work here)... we got the milk soft serve and taiyakis :3 the soft serve has a bunch of different topping options, but we stuck with plain. yummy! read more

Finally tried Somisomi on Sawtelle and it absolutely lived up to the hype. I ordered the Nutella-filled fish waffle with ice cream, and it was amazing! Perfectly balanced, not overly sweet, and packed with great flavor. At around $7, it's very fairly priced and easily enough for two people to share. There's almost always a line, but it moves quickly thanks to how efficient and organized the staff is. Seating is very limited both inside and outside. There are only a few tables, and they're shared with the neighboring restaurants, but it's easy to enjoy this as a quick grab and go treat. This has quickly become a go to dessert spot for me. read more
Delicious soft-serve ice cream with unique flavors. The waffle fish are always a treat and are perfectly soft but crispy! There's usually a line at the Sawtelle location, but it moves pretty quickly and the ice cream comes out fast after ordering. They are renovating the exterior seating right now, so there's not really anywhere to sit an enjoy unfortunately. read more

I came thinking it was going to be salmon. Pleasantly surprised. Yummy and only waited like 10 mins. They asked me what toppings I wanted and if I wanted a strawberry or macaron :3 I chose macaron, of course. read more

I love somisomi because of their dessert being everything that I want. I love the creamy ice cream that is the perfect balance of sweetness, flavoring, and creaminess. It's nice to have a surprise of flavor combos each week and getting to customize your order every time. The fish is the perfect bread/pastry filled with a filling of your choice which I usually get custard. Overall this place always satisfies my sweet tooth craving after a meal. The only reason why I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the fish most of the times is not freshly made and is pre made in advance and is sitting out so it's not as crispy and warm. read more
Soft serve dreams come true here ! The taiyaki cones are warm, crispy, and just the right chewy, and pairing them with swirls of ube, matcha, or black sesame is pure magic. The cheese-filled taiyaki were a hit! Always fun, always photogenic, and always worth the wait in line. read more
This place is hella poppin! We got there around 7:45 and there was a long line out the door. Line moved at a decent pace. The line got longer and longer through the 2 hours we were there. There is seating inside and outside. Loved the ube but not really into the black sesame. Those two are not a good combo. read more

If you would have asked me years ago I would have given Somi Somi a 5! However it's nowadays more of a hit or miss! Sometimes the ice cream is too sugary and other times it's just right. Same thing with the Ah-Boong sometimes it's fresh and at other times not. Feel like the service could be better most of the time but other than that I usually don't mind going back. read more

Came back to SomiSomi on Sawtelle and decided to try a different flavor this time--matcha and black sesame. To my surprise, both flavors were actually rich and tasted like real matcha, not the watered-down version you sometimes get. That was a win. The seating situation hasn't changed--still not much of it--but the service was pretty fast considering the place was packed and the line was out the door. The Ambiance is clean and sleek. Parking is definitely tougher than before, probably because it's gotten more popular lately. All in all, it was a solid visit, but nothing too mind-blowing. Giving it a 3 out of 5. read more

Ordering system was surely appreciated with the well-thought process on assuring people can be served ASAP, especially knowing the constantly busy line. I have always been in love with their soft serve and I had it more like a go-to for late-night cravings. It's not like best of the best, but decent and accessible. They're also pretty inventive in rotating the flavors. One disappointment recently was the taiyaki, which felt like barely have fillings now. Understand inflation, I somehow preferred higher price but with satisfying filling. The hotteok one was actually pretty good but unfortunately so little. read more
The soft serve was yummy, where we tried the matcha and cookies and cream swirl. The flavors were not very strong though. Also got a matcha cream and red bean taiyaki, but the matcha cream one was not at all filled. Other than that, I really like the mochi-like consistency of the taiyaki so I ended up enjoying the dough just as much! read more

My friend and I were in the area and after having coffee decided to have some dessert. She's had never tried this place before. This was my first visit to this location but only my second time having something at SOMISOMI and honestly it was so long ago I cannot remember what I had ordered. This place was clean and with an open room concept. Seating is available inside and outside. Parking is a challenge for this area, be sure to look out for parking restrictions. We were in this area during rush hour and we parked almost in front of the store which is one of the main drag to get to the freeway. Keep that in mind if you don't have patience or in a time crunch. I went with the Ah Boong Takayuki and selected the sweet corn soft serve with the black bean sesame. I love sweet corn in a can and definitely a fresh, sweet corn on a cob. I was hesitant to try it in a soft serve form, but I'm glad I did. It was quite delicious and paired well with the black sesame filling. I would absolutely have that combo again, but maybe try something different too. The employee at the register was helpful, but it was difficult to hear him due to the doors being open and the traffic passing by. I'm not sure if I would return to this location only because of the traffic, but I would surely visit another SOMISOMI. read more
Self order at the kiosk. This location was jam packed on a Monday night. Perhaps it was the only location opened late. Line was out the door. But they move very fast. There are 2 iPads to self order from. Got the classic custard and matcha custard taiyaki. So good. Fresh. Soft. Delicious. The Matcha was great. Cause it's not too sweet. read more
Totally unique experience! It's a pastry with a sweet filling AND ice cream. You can mix and match. I really liked it. There was a loyal client base waiting in line. Definitely worth a try. It was maybe a little bit too much sweet stuff all at once but I might go back and try again. And the staff are nice, and the environment is upbeat. read more
