My cousin and I visited this location today and the experience was less than satisfactory. Right when we get to the front, we see a person is washing dishes. I feel the need to describe him because his attitude was unacceptable. He is an Asian man, on the thicker side, not too tall, short hair, wearing a mask, and has glasses. No name tag, probably because he has a nasty attitude and doesn't want to be held accountable. We believe he was alone, so we give him time to finish up with the dishes. About five minutes passes, and not once has he looked up to check on the front to see if any customers were there. I said excuse me about two times and he still did not acknowledge us standing ten feet away from him. He looked like he was wearing some sort of headphone, which I thought wasn't allowed in the food industry? When we finally catch his attention, I give him a smile to indicate we are ready to order and he does not meet me with the same attitude. The first words to come out of his mouth were "You could have ordered on the Kiosk." He stated this with the most attitude I've heard in a while and I work with children. It took me off guard and all I could do was laugh in astonishment because of the way he was approaching us. Yes, there was a Kiosk, but we wanted to ask questions about some of the flavors and have some human interaction that most ice cream places pride themselves on. I was then discouraged to even ask anything because his attitude was getting worse by the minute. He never said "Hello," and never spoke in full sentences, only "flavor" "filling," "topping?" While he was making the ice creams he was slamming down the lids of the extra toppings hard and couldn't even be bothered to push the ice creams towards my cousin and I, just sat it down all the way across the table and made us reach for it. I understand if this man was alone and overwhelmed, but SomiSomi you need to hire workers who can handle two tasks at one time, it wasn't even busy. The dishes can wait. Hopefully his day gets better and that he doesn't react that way when older people don't know how to use the Kiosk or have questions, goodness forbid. read more

I used to frequent the SomiSomi in K-town. I was thrilled to find out there's one in Ontario Mills when I move to the IE. Parking: This mall is absolutely huge and the parking may or may not be in your favor. Where ever you find your park might not be next to where you want to enter lol. Selection: I'm not the biggest fan of the rotating flavors, I kind of wish they would keep some flavors permanently. My preferred combo will always be Ube with fruity pebbles, but I believe I got cookies and cream in this pic :/ A good ice cream, but such a common flavor. Service/Space: Definitely a smaller space, but I appreciate the use of trendy backgrounds for cute pictures. We got our orders relatively quickly, under 10 minutes. However, unless I'm shopping, it's hard to go out of my way to come to this mall just for here. My little siblings love visiting though! It's a cool experience for the kiddos. read more

I was looking forward to trying this location and was a bit bummed they didn't have the flavor anymore. I went with the cookies and cream. I recommend the macaroon rather than the strawberry. I found myself tiring of the cookies n cream. I wish I had done the swirl with milk for some variety. I got it to go and their lid was way too small, which was also disappointing. I'm hoping this is not a reflection of the quality at this location and that I just ordered the wrong thing. Finally a somi somi in the IE. Located in Ontario mills , it's in a small little opening across from daiso. There's no sitting area but there's standing tables to enjoy a quick snack before going back to shopping. Since it's a small shop, it does get crowded but it goes by pretty quickly. I love how every taiyaki is made fresh. You can buy 3 or 5. It's crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside + whatever filling. I usually come here for the ice cream. The favors usually switch out every week but I mainly come here for the matcha and milk flavor. The milk is very creamy and sweet (not too much vanilla) and the matcha is more Japanese style, not too sweet and not too over bearing. I've been to the Somisomi in Ontario and Irvine and both ice cream places were really good! I had to try it again at Ontario mills and it was just as good as the one I had in Irvine. The line can sometimes be long but that isn't the efficiency of the workers fault. They just always have customers! It's pretty small but it provides great ice cream. read more

All the employees were super nice and I would definitely come back to try more flavors or get the taiyaki because those are always good, but the ice cream was not great. I ordered the milk tea and Thai tea swirl. There was no milk or Thai tea flavor at all!!! I couldn't even differentiate the flavors between the 2 unless I looked at the colors. I definitely wouldn't get that again. They have other flavors and seasonal flavors, but I can't recommend Thai tea or milk tea. Mango honeydew swirl 3.5/5 - it taste like melona which is a good thing but I wish I picked another flavor like matcha cookies and cream. It is refreshing and the Korean honeydew taste is stronger than the mango. Colors are not as bright as the other flavors. The guy that helped with the toppings, he was a young slim guy but he was helping us until I left to ask my mother and grandfather if they wanted any toppings on their ice cream. Somi Somi is always a fail-safe remedy for when my sweet tooth is especially persistent. On this occasion, I chose the milk and oreo swirl, one of the three that were available this week. Although the usual procedure for ice cream served "ahboong" style is to place the freshly cooked fish-shaped pastry over the peak of the ice cream, I always ask for it separately. The combination of the hot-off-the-pan pastry and frozen ice cream make for an inevitable mess, unless one eats particularly quickly. The ice cream was piped in fat swirls into the cup, and adorned with choice of topping (toasted coconut flakes and a macaron, in my case). Flavor was sweet, but not overtly so, and the texture was so silky. In terms of flavor, Somi Somi seems to be good no matter which location I purchase it from, but I do lament the fact that Ontario Mills closes fairly early these days. It would also be kind of nice to have some of the more uncommon flavors available at this location as well (such as strawberry and milk tea), but maybe I just keep missing it? read more

I've had taiyaki ice cream back in NY, but I haven't had ones this crispy. I came Friday morning and there was no line. I ordered the green tea and cookies n'cream swirl with upside down taiyaki and taro filling. The good: Very clean and instagrammable; taiyaki was crispy and it was very filling. Green tea flavor was good, but overpowered the cookies n'cream ice cream. Taro filling was good, but more of a paste that they smeared on the inside of the taiyaki - wish there was more! The bad: The taro 'filling' is misleading. It was more of a paste and part of me wishes for a whole taiyaki with more filling, but I know I won't be able to finish it - good portion I guess. I couldn't really taste the cookies n'cream flavor and the minute I stepped outside, everything started to melt really fast - it got quite messy. Pro tip: Remember to grab a LOT of tissues in case it starts melting outside when you're taking pictures. Overall, craving satisfied and I would recommend :) read more
