Arrived around 6p on a Thursday night and narrowly missed happy hour! The happy hour deals provide discount for meats, drinks, and apps, so I wish we got here slightly earlier! Regardless, we ordered the steam egg, corn cheese, 2 briskets, and a pork belly. Personally, I didn't love the pork belly because of how fatty it was (not a quality issue) and everything else was great. The server put in 2 orders of brisket despite us ordering only 1, so it was pretty awkward when he asked if we wantsd them to take it back or keep it and pay more. Seemed a bit odd since it was t our mistake! He was nice though and offered us drinks -- we got two draft beers. Nice touch! The kimchi tho I have to say, it's very sour, like way too fermented. I don't really like the grill because it's sticking my meat to it when grilling. SOB is a MUST try in Seattle if you love KBBQ! When you think of Seattle, you wouldn't associate it with KBBQ like Downtown LA but this spot has delicious food and hip music! We walked in about 8pm last Saturday and was asked if we had reservations. Interesting because I did call weeks ago to try to reserve for dinner and was told NO reservations for party of 2 so strange that the guy even asked! He told us to have a seat at the bar and will clean up a few tables for us. Within 5 mins, we were seated in a small table in the back of the restaurant. You would scan the QR code for the menu. We ordered the Beef Combo which is more than enough food for two people. We actually took food to go and had lunch the next day! The beef Combo consisted of: Ribeye, Brisket, Bulgogi, Steamed Egg, Cheese Fondue, Dwenjang Jjigae ($110). You can order a la carte as well with a plate of meat averaging $32 a dish, which more on the expensive side. It is good quality meats though so you get what you pay for! The Combo is more cost effective and you get more side dishes, veggies, salads, etc. The banchans come separately as well. So you have plenty to munch on while you wait for your meats to cook! The brisket was the winner of the night! So soft with just a hint of fat. All their meats are very lean. The veggies was a nice touch especially the asparagus which I have never seen before at Kbbq places. They also had mushrooms, tomatoes and onions you can grill. The steamed egg was also the bomb! The intestines were cleaned well and it tasted like butter melting in your mouth. The environment was spacious and clean. Friendly staff but they didn't cook for us. This Kbbq restaurant came highly recommended by our friends. The exact words were "You need to call in for a reservation they can get very busy." Following that advice, I called in for a reservation for 4 on a Thursday. This restaurant is located in a small business strip on Eastlake. Parking, if any are available, is limited and we opted for street parking. Walking in the restaurant, we couldn't smell the ubiquitous charred barbeque scent that normally sticks to clothes. That 's a testament to how well the space was ventilated. Each table has it's own adjustable exhaust fan and an induction grill. One of the things I like about Son of A Butcher is their menu selection. The combo were a good value and made for an easy decision. I also appreciate that their alcohol is not limited to Soju or Sake. I ordered an Old Fashioned, dumplings, and opted for the beef and pork combo (which serves 4). The combo meal comes with the standard banchans, steamed egg, cheese fondue, salad, soup (we picked the dwenjang jjige), and a half sheet tray assortment of pork and beef cuts. The meat tray consisted of ribeye, brisket, pork belly, pork jowl, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, onion slice, and asparagus. We grilled the non-marinated meats first and ended with the brisket. The meats were high quality and had beautiful marbling. Service was fast, however not frequent. It was difficult to get water refills or order more items. Overall, I think this restaurant has reasonable pricing and quality cuts. The combos makes for easy selection and cocktail/spirits list is more than what I've encountered at other Kbbq spots. read more

They're highly addictive and I refuse to be sucked in like so many smartphone zombies. I asked if they had paper menus. She said she'd check and then came back and said, no. Especially growing up in Los Angeles, I have very high expectations of Korean BBQ, and this place is quite decent with that standard. However, my experience overall is a bit mixed, but it was otherwise overall positive. My friends drove to the Eastlake neighborhood and the parking situation for this restaurant is definitely quite challenging, but we were able to be creative like other cars and parked in a makeshift area of the parking lot, legitimately of course. We made reservations for 4 people at 8pm same day, and I highly recommend doing so, as the restaurant is quite small. We got served some banchan, such as bean sprouts, fish cakes, kimchi, mashed potato, broccoli with gochujang, pickled onions, to name a few. What irritates me is that you only get one free refill of the banchan, and any extra you need to pay extra. What restaurant does that?? But, they were nice enough to give large quantities of banchan so that 2 complimentary servings of each is a decent amount. We ordered a pork combo and an a la carte beef brisket. Pork combo comes with pork belly, pork jowl, pork kalbi, a bunch of vegetables (e.g., asparagus, mushroom, cherry tomatoes, onion), steamed egg (which was quite good, with some tamago), soybean stew (a bit salty, but hearty), and cheese fondue (not corn cheese...). It also came with a large bowl of salad, which I ate the whole thing myself as none of my friends really wanted salad - it was quite delicious though there was not much dressing. The grill is electric grill??? Like, that kind of is a bit iffy as we know fire is an essential element for great KBBQ. Also, the grill is not oiled enough so the initial batch of meat stuck to the grill and it was a bit of a struggle to take it out. However, the grill is definitely hot enough for a decent substitute, but it just doesn't really taste the same. I guess the positive is that it is much harder to burn the meat. The pork without any sauce is still flavorful, though I expected a bit more in quality of the cuts for the price we paid. On the other hand, the beef brisket is amazing - juicy and with just the right amount of fat. The marinated pork was a nice finish to the meal, though the sauce was a bit on the sweeter side. Service is okay - whenever we flagged down the waiter, he was able to refill water in a timely manner. Food overall is decent given it is an electric grill. Pricewise, we ended up paying around $40 per person after tax and tip, which is decent - a fraction of the price of Meet in Capitol Hill, though definitely not as upscale. I wish there were more places like this one, but with actual fire grill, at this price range, in the Seattle area, but Federal Way / Lynnwood might be the way to go, if not flying back to Los Angeles. read more

We ordered a chicken, a beef, and a pork belly. It same in a medium plate with some veggies. The food price was about $160. After tax and an automatic gratitude of 25% (about $69 tips) because there were 6 of us, it was almost $250. We left there hungry because there were barely any food. We get charged almost $70 to cook our own food. We felt ripped off. We told our friends and relatives about the experience and would never visit this place again. Much better to eat at an AYCE BBQ place. The next night we ate at the Sumo Sushi and Grill which was AYCE and near the area and it was cheaper and much more variety of food and free drinks. read more

However, when we arrived at 7pm, they asked my husband if we had a reservation for two...of course we didn't since we were told we couldn't. Then, we were told it would be a 20-30 min wait, so my husband gave his name and we decided to walk around the block. We got back in 15 min...but they had already given our table away. We were seated shortly afterwards. Let me say that I was excited to find a place that served dakgalbi similar to how they do in Korea, so I was really disappointed when we sat down and the waiter said they weren't serving it...I mean, we drove up from Kent for it. Nonetheless, we ordered the yukhoe, kote pork, and bulgogi since we were already there. There, my friends, is their saving grace. The quality of the meat was good and matched the price point. The quality of the meat was delicious!! I wish the sides were better, I only enjoyed the kimchi and bean sprouts. Best Kbbq option in Seattle! I'm very picky when it comes to Korean food (was spoiled by LA's Koreatown) but this was my by far my favorite kbbq experience in Seattle. The quality of the meats and banchan were all 10/10. For two people we ordered the marinated short rib/kalbi, thick porkbelly, 2 bowls of rice, corn cheese, steam egg, 1 terra (beer), 1 (jinro) and the total was around $120 after tip. Servers were all very attentive and friendly. Price is a little steep but the high quality of the meat makes it worth it. I wouldn't mind coming back to try other items on the menu. Tried it due to hearing good reviews, would not go again. It was an expensive meal for not a lot of meat compared to other korean bbq places, I'd rather pay for an unlimited KBBQ next time. The combo comes with a lot of fillers such as cheese fondue, steamed egg (burnt on the bottom), kimchi soup (probably the only part I'd eat), and salad (which are not worth paying for in my opinion) - and only three meats. The steak is the most filling part but usually even at hotpot I'd have way more meat in front of me. I also had a contradicting experience because one of the workers was really kind and would check in with a smile to see how things were, and another would very aggressively come by to tell us we were cooking things wrong - my friend and I had been chatting when the food got to the table and then the guy came back not long after to tell us we needed to put the meat on the grill (talking to us as if neither of us had ever done kbbq before) and then proceeded to just do it for us without even asking which we wanted to cook first. There was also butter meant for the ribeye but I wanted to make sure the pan was well oiled first and also because I like cooking with butter, but he took the butter off the grill (again without asking) and told us it was for the ribeye only. Then he came by while we had just taken off the first meats and he told us we were going to burn the grill (instead of just turning down the heat) and put our ribeye on - which I did not appreciate because those don't need to cook that long if I want it medium rare, and we were still eating and not ready for the next meat. When he left i took the ribeye back off and turned the heat down until we were ready for it, but at this point it had messed up my cooking process and after I wasnt able to cook my ribeye how I liked and somewhat overcooked because I had to wait longer for it to heat to the center when I put it back on since the outer part of the meat had cooled down. He also just had a demeanor of annoyance towards us for looking like we had no idea what we were doing even though we just wanted to enjoy our meal and eat at our own pace. We are paying to cook our own meal already so I don't understand why he was being so pushy. Overall the food was okay- dipping sauces were decent/standard, but its not like you pay for prepared meats so you cook and salt it on your own (other than specifically marinated dishes which was 1 of 3 meats) - and I didnt love any of the banchan. Kimchi was my least favorite (tasted like the Costco Jongga kimchi which has too acidic/fermented/imbalanced flavors), the potato salad was too sweet for both of our liking, and there were also marinated cilantro (which was interesting..? never seen that before at a korean restaurant), sliced onions (which was the favorite), bean sprouts (but which the mung bean which I don't prefer), and I think I remember one other veggie. Side note, it's busy so be sure to make a reservation or you might have to wait a while for limited walk in seats. I recently visited Son of a Butcher! I've driven past it so many times and was excited to finally try it. They have a decent variety of meats and dishes. I really enjoyed the hickory smoked pork belly and ribeye. When ordering meat, it comes with a small assortment of vegetables: mushrooms, tomatoes, asparagus, and onions. However, you have to order at least 2 orders of meat to grill at your table! They had a smoke absorber which made the experience better. My eyes are usually watering from the smoke, but not at this dinner. The meat came with a side salad as well. There was also a steak tartare that was interesting--first time I've had it with KBBQ. The meat was tossed with pears and other vegetables, making it very refreshing and helped to cut the heaviness of the kbbq meat. The banchan was also good. It included potato salad, broccoli salad, kimchi, fish cakes, and bean sprouts. Overall, I thought the experience was great. The staff was helpful and quick. The ambience gave me bar/nightlife vibes which was great for a night out. Their food was good enough for the price. My mouth is watering just thinking about this place! I recommend making reservations, just because there is limited seating. Staff were all super nice and attentive (sometimes too much), portion sizes were good, and banchan was delicious! There were 2 of us at the table, we were sat near the restroom and across from the bar where all the servers hung out so it was a little uncomfortable because we felt all eyes watching us eat. I don't know if a reservation is needed for a small party, but I'd recommend it, especially on the weekends. We decided to order individual meats instead of a combo since we don't like all the meats included in the combo. We got the pork jowl, beef brisket, and large beef intestine. Pork jowl and the beef intestine are very fatty, so beware if you've never had either of those before. This was a different experience because I'm used to having my intestine cut for me but here, they leave it whole so it was pretty difficult to cook. We also ordered the steamed egg and corn cheese, because I can never have Kbbq either. Although the corn cheese was really good and I'd recommend, the egg was disappointing. I like the addition of red masago on top for crunch, but the egg was flavorless and a little more burnt than I like. But luckily enough, I was able to snatch a table for 2 on a Friday at 7:45pm since I've tried calling their phone all day but no one picked up! So that knocked off 1 star for me as far as the inconvenience of not having an option to make reservations online or get better customer service. My date and I ordered 3 meat plates to barbecue in addition to a few drinks to pair well with our grilled meats! We chose pork belly- which comes as a long slab, you have to cut it yourself. Brisket was another favorite of ours and we gave the Kalbi Beef a try. It was all very delicious, good quality and more than enough to eat! I mean, who leaves a KBBQ spot still hungry? Especially when there's rice, house salad, banchan and a ton of meat! Luckily we didn't order tofu soup, japchae or the tempting volcano boiled egg appetizer. But I'll definitely be back to try it!
