This was my first time here. This was my one stop shop for food and a yummy slushy. I was heavily disappointed with the grade of my food. I ordered a number seven which is a foot long dog with tater tots. The dog was edible but the tots were not. They were so greasy and overly burnt, I had one and I was done. Nine orders are currently sitting on the counter and the runner is sitting on her phone texting. I'd hate to see what it's like when it's busy. Let's see. How many descriptive words can I use for this place. Slow, crumby, unprofessional..... Been here four times. Should have stopped after one. Every time(!!) got wrong food, etc. Extreme difficulty with ordering - they can't hear/understand what order is. They may repeat order back incorrectly or repeat correctly but STILL give it to you wrong!!? What's so difficult about "no cheese please" on the burger? Either got cheese anyway (twice) or got nothing whatsoever on there at ALL (2 pieces of bread & small skinny meat patty - dry). Never EVER leave without checking what you've gotten, while person still at your car. Do NOT go to the window or it'll go bad for sure. Just came from our fourth, and certainly LAST visit. Who knows what crud they've put into our fries when we've asked to get the fries we ordered.... twice & have received tater tots. Just happened. We will certainly not(!) eat the fries they finally brought - who knows what's in there :( Oh, and it takes forever for your wrong order to come, then you have to try to get what you originally ordered. Went to the first and last time to the Sonic Burger on Harbor Blvd in Costa Mesa. First of all, we both ordered cheeseburgers, but arrived with no cheese on either. Secondly, there were two of us..why on earth would they bring just one small napkin for the two of us? Once we received our order as requested with more napkins, the burgers were not that good, overcooked and bland. Glad we tried Sonic Burger, but I have to give it a thumbs down rating. Double Jr. Cheeseburger, Totts and a Diet Cherry Limeade. Decent Cheeseburger- comparable to Burger King, Really good totts- extra crispy with the right amount of salt, and I loved the diet cherry limeade. Being a person that can never have the full sugar version, it was an extra special treat. read more

Came here for lunch around 1230pm, wasn't busy at all. Ordered a Chicago dog, tots and a drink. The terminal for card payments wasnt working at my car hop, so I paid cash when the server arrived. The tots were nice and crispy. But the Chicago dog was horrible... bun was stale and the dog was room temperature. The server was prompt. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're craving hot dog. Also used the restroom, which didn't have any soap dispensers.... that's freaking gross! read more

Well me and a homie of mine went on a Friday night around 9:30pm. We piled up to the order window and it took them about 5+ mins to respond. We ordered our food. 30 mins later nothing. It's Saturday night. The wind blows from the east. I thirst for what is the southern Californian's nonalcoholic equivalent of a viking's mead: soda. I require only the highest grade of ice. Sonic is the natural choice. I approach the drive thru and am presented with the most exquisite specimen of soft drink I've ever seen, topped with a luscious layer of Sonic's signature crushed ice. I am elated. The experience is sublime. Jessica, the drive thru attendant, hears my cries of joy & gives me a free cup of ice in lieu of buying a 10lb bag for 2.69. I love their banana shakes and the crushed round ice. The Coney island foot long chili dog is the best and who doesn't love tater tots. Those tater tots are always crispy and yummy. Perfect with a shake or Route44 Peach Iced tea. The only down side is the prices can be high for what you get but it is pretty good. Their burgers are not that great. I mainly see this places as my hot dog/shakes/tater tots place. OH and I always get my 10lb bag of crushed ice. That ice makes any drink refreshing and cold!! read more

Came back to this Sonic several times, and gosh by jolly, I got ketchup and napkins every single time! Didn't even have to ask for them. What?!! These 4 stars are for the happy hour menu items. Had snack jumbo popcorn chicken. Good portion, tasty and crunchy for just $1. Sorry folks! It was only for today. But happy hour dollar menu is every day 2-5pm. We ordered 2 kids meals at the car port. It took them over 30 mins to get our meal. When I kept asking for the food they kept saying they would bring it right out. Finally they said that the meal was sitting under the wrong carport. Really? No apology or anything. To add to this horrible experience, the food was extremely oily. We could squeeze the oil out of the corn dog. It never used to be is bad. They are in serious need of some better management here. Went for lunch on the Sunday before Labor Day. There were two parties of two, already waiting for their food on the patio, one party of four currently ordering. "Wow, not too crowded" I said. Hubby and I placed our order, then sat down for a thirty minute wait. Gave new meaning to "fast" food....that is, "fast" as in, not eating! During this time, we saw one woman first return her fries, then went back in to return her sandwich. We saw employees coming out with trays of food, demanding four times to know "Which of you is parked at number fifteen? It MUST be one of ya'll. Which speaker did you order from....are you a combo number one and a number five?" Then going back inside with the tray of cold food. Three different workers would cone out and wander around until they connected the order with the correct set of patrons. An adjacent table asked about their order and the confused worker replied, "It's coming. We're a bit messed up today." Kudos to him for not giving hungry people false hope. He was really trying to match the orders with their recipients, but apparently some issue was afoot to slow and block their productivity. We considered leaving, and getting lunch somewhere else, but since they already had our money, we waited it out. I cleaned our sticky table with antiseptic wipes from my car. Finally! Except, the party of four who ordered ahead of us, we're looking longingly at our food.....they had little kids who were suffering from low blood sugar. The order came, and it was correct. You don't get to use the tray. They give you your food in a take- out bag, with just two napkins. Hubby's burger was accceptably edible. His cross cut fries came with only three ketchup packets. Nothing terrible, but nothing wonderful. I got a fried chicken sandwich which was, meh, okay. But the onion rings tasted as if their coating was made from sweet doughnut dough. That's right....sweet! Ew. I finished one. Hubby opted not to try any. They got thrown away. I attempted to wash the sandwich down with my diet green tea. Which was awful! Not sure if it was real sugar, or zero-calorie sweetener ( supposed to be "diet", so probably it was sweetener) but about three pounds of sweet to one ounce of liquid. This stuff tasted like the goop in my hummingbird feeder. So sweet, that it was not drinkable, sipable, or ingestible in any way. It also hit the trash can. Taking much longer than it used to....and I've received wrong items on my last two experiences. Though this location is just a few minutes from my home, I will not visit them again, due to NOT honor the half off shakes after 8pm deal. I went up there last evening about 9:30pm, was directly told by the lady at the speaker box this. So I'll start going to one further from home. What this location fail to understand is when a person can receive savings on a product, typically we'll spend additional monies on other menu items there at regular price. These poor girls!! I went last night and it was extremely busy, when the stall order was taking too long we went through the drive thru and once we got up there I was shocked. It was only three girls running around working their asses off to keep this location running. How the hell did the management let that happen? They were clearly exhausted and frustrated, but hats off to them for maintaining a friendly, positive attitude and accuracy with the orders. Oi Veh! NEVER AGAIN! I even drove down to the next signal and made a U turn to eat here. I'd never eaten at a Sonic because the idea of eating in my vehicle repulses me, but I thought, I'll give it a try. I ordered a double burger with one slice of cheese in the middle of the two patties. That is exactly how it came, BUT after about 15 minutes of waiting in my car. The car hop apologized and gave me a little discount, but I would much rather have had good food than the discount. I will give her points for trying though. Then, the French Fries were cold! So I pushed my magic red button and told the guy on the order stand that they were cold. The waitress brought out a hot order quickly, and they were delicious. Now, back to the hamburger. It reminded me so much of a Wendy's Burger, but not even as good as that. The meat had NO flavour. I don't even think they put some salt and pepper on the meat. The whole thing tasted steamed, like Wendy's. I was not impressed. Later I saw on the menu that they offer different sauces with the fries and tater tots. All I got was a measly packet of catchup. So I ate about 2/3 of my hamburgers and fries, and thought if I'm gonna fill up with empty calories, at least the food could be good, quality food that had some taste to it. My understanding was, when I was done with the tray, just push the red button, and the carhop would be right out to retrieve it. Bull crap! I pushed the button, no one came, and after I while, I wised up and figured, why the hell should I be waiting for them to take my tray. So I just put it on the ground in the parking lot and drove off. I drove around the block and looked over and it was still sitting there. What really rubbed salt in my wounds was after I ate, I noticed a Five Guys right across the street, and I could have gone there and had QUALITY food, good SERVICE and walked away happy. NEVER, EVER will I return to this or any other Sonic. I can be fooled once, but not twice. read more

During the day they do have an awesome happy hour with great deals...
