Had a great time at Sonny's the other day to celebrate a birthday. The renovation makes the restaurant look nice and up to date. The food was great - I got a mixed plate of ribs and pulled pork with some macaroni and cheese and cornbread. Everything on the plate was delicious - and even though the serving size was quite large I just wish there was more! Each of the 4 types of sauces on the table were pretty good as well. They have a salad bar which looked ok, but not worth the price it was listed for. read more

If you're looking for BBQ, Sonny's isn't a bad option. If Williamson Bros. wasn't around the corner, I'd probably hit up this place for lunch more often. Sonny's is a BBQ chain, founded in Gainesville, Florida (home of the UF Gators), with over 130 locations in the South. The restaurant serves affordable and tasty BBQ with all-you-can-eat options and a salad bar too. Lunch specials are served daily until 4pm. Depending on what meat you choose, lunch prices range from $7.49 to $10+ and come with two sides and garlic bread or cornbread. Meat options include ribs (in dry and wet rubs), pork, brisket, and chicken. The pork and brisket come either sliced or pulled and the chicken comes pulled or in 1/4 sections. They used to offer chopped meat, but it wasn't a popular option. I tried it once and didn't like it. I prefer pulled. The meat is separated into thinner strands/chunks and seems more tender and juicy. Sides include baked beans, crinkle-cut fries, mac and cheese, baked potato, sweet potato, mashed potatoes, cinnamon apples, coleslaw, and corn on the cob. It's not the greatest assortment of sides. They do have onion rings and fried okra available, but as apps only, so they have to be ordered separately. As for breads, both the garlic bread and the cornbread are forgettable, but at least the butter served with is good. Dinner prices are at least a couple dollars at each price point, starting at $9.99 and up. All-you-can-eat is valid all day and ranges in price from $10.99 (pork) to $18.99 (ribs). If you can eat a lot, it's a reasonable deal. I've ordered the AYCE a few times. My favorite item to order at Sonny's, and most BBQ joints in general, is the pulled pork. I'm not fond of any of the sides, but usually go with slaw and a sweet potato. The fries are bland and not very good. The pork is flavorful enough, though, and there are plenty of sauces to go around. Each table has at least 4 or 5 different types of BBQ sauces, from spicy to sweet to vinegary, so there's something for everyone. I like to add the salad bar to my order too, though it's a very basic salad bar. Sometimes, the salad bar has soup, which can be a nice addition. In my experience, service has always been very good. The employees are typically friendly and attentive and orders come out from the kitchen fast. Marietta Sonny's, located near Walmart and Sam's Club, is one of the few remaining Sonny's franchises in metro Atlanta. Most of the other restaurants failed. There used to be another location off of Cobb Parkway on Spring Road near Cumberland Mall, but it closed a few years ago. read more

I'm JUST now finishing this review from a couple months ago. Oh well, life calls. =) I completely relapsed on my diet, broke down and bought some Sonny's a couple days ago. Never been here. It was very crowded around lunch time. I ordered the pulled pork barbecue sandwich with macaroni and a cup o' sweet tea. It was around 8 bucks. They give you the barbecue sauce in a packet, I'm guessing because everyone likes different amounts of it on their sandwich. It was a LOT of meat on the sandwich. It was good, but the meat wasn't tender enough for me. The sauce accents it pretty well. The macaroni was good and cheesy. =) I also think it's pretty convenient that they have a drive-thru. Ok this might be bias opinion since I grew up with one of these in Rome ga and I always have good memories of eating here. Now for the Marietta sonnys not much has changed in the many years I've ate here. The menu has got more complex but still good taste and good flavored meats. I used to come here often, went back to check it out and it is a soulless husk of what it used to be. Service was quick, but terrible - did not honor my request for the meat, and literally said nothing when I said it was not good. Not a word when I paid, after two bites in and visibly not happy. The meat was all rubbery with what looked like meat glue, and definitely felt microwaved with a super chewy texture. It also barely tasted smoked and should not pass for BBQ in Georgia. I really miss how Sonnys used to be here and will just have to squeeze in my trips when I visit Florida. Don't waste your money here, even though it's super sad to see this location declining. read more

One of the best parts about this restaurant is when they run an all-ou-can-eat special. Non-stop ribs, and sometimes chicken, and they are delicious. The staff is decently friendly and attentive, but you have to realize that this is not a 5-star dining facility. Get in, get your ribs, and get out. Small salad bar, but it's also decent. read more

Been a while since I have eaten here so I was excited to revisit. Overall a little disappointed. I ordered the sliced pork lunch plate with baked beans and fries in place of slaw. Let's start with those fries. Not that good. They tasted old, as if they have been in the freezer a while and started to burn/stale. The beans were a real letdown. I have always like Sonny's bean but these were runny and sort of tasted like ketchup was in them. The pork was ok. More fatty than I typically like but not bad. The price is very fair compared to other bbq places in the area and considered in my star score. My server didn't offer or refill my drink. Over all, middle of the road experience. read more

One of my all time favorites. If the Woodstock location didn't shut down, I would be there every week. Now, this location is the closest, yet 35 minutes far away. I will say, I prefer the long drive to Sonny's over any up and comer barbecue joint out there. Whenever I get a chance to eat here I don't pass it up! The food is always good! It's not a heavy smoke flavor, it's just right! My favorite is the BBQ chicken (all white meat), beans, coleslaw and garlic bread! Jose is a fantastic waiter, request him if you get the chance! My wife and I went to Sonny's BBQ at 160 Cobb Pkwy SE, Marietta, GA 30062 on Saturday September 1st 2018 for dinner. After giving our order I unwrapped my silverware and noticed my knife was a bit greasy, so I wiped it down, but asked my wife to check her knife in case I had to borrow it since mine was dirty. Not only was her knife dirty, but the fork even had some dried food on it. We took the silverware to the manager and told them we could never eat here if this is how the silverware is "Cleaned". They said they were sorry and we walked out. People should know what they are walking into and check your silverware before you eat as it seems their dishwasher may not have enough hot water or cleaner in it. read more

This is definitely not a BBQ restaurant, it's more like a Denny's buffet. The only thing on the buffet worth eating was the fried chicken and salad. Menu selection was very limited so I ordered honey wings. There are not many choices of restaurants near by, so it will do for the time being as we were just in town for a basketball tournament. I must say that our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. She visited our table every chance she had to clear away plates and refill drinks. read more

Always love a trip to Sonnys a couple of times a year! Been consistent for years. Great BBQ and sides. This trip fell short so was a little disappointed since we were looking forward to it. The sides, Cole slaw, baked beans, fries and garlic bread were great! The pulled pork and sliced pork was very fatty. Had to pick through to get non-fatty meat. Today my experience at Sonny's BBQ was the WORST. We ordered our drinks, they got there about 5 minutes later Then we ordered our food which took 20 minutes to get. We both got the all you can eat. For the second serving it took about 15 minutes to get. We got so tired of eating cold food that we got up to leave and asked to speak to the manager he was not there so we got the assistant manager. Stopped by early Sunday for lunch, and had an excellent lunch. Our server, Jaja was very polite, and prompt in taking and filling our order. But what REALLY made for an excellent lunch was listening to the couple behind us as he shared information about his church, with Jaja... Jaja appeared excited about learning of his church. Listening to our lunch neighbors brought a tear or two to my eyes, as he proudly proclaimed Jesus as his King! He is one proud Christian!... On my road trip from Memphis to Atlanta, my friend had talked about how she and her friends loved this BBQ place called Sonny's that used to be in Mississppi but had closed over a weekend, devastating them all. As we drove into Marietta, heading to the Marietta Diner, we saw it, the giant Sonny's BBQ sign. I pointed and confirmed that was the place she meant. YES. After hearing her rapturous description of their wings, this was a definite must-try during my time in Atlanta. Chicken wings. One of my many weaknesses, especially when they're this tasty. My friend loves their Sizzlin' Sweet (sweet and spicy) and it was delicious but my favourite was their new (ish) Smokin'. A little bit sweet, a little bit smoky but neither over-powering. Just this delicious melding of both. Plus crinkle fries. How can anyone turn down crinkle-cut fries?! It just can't be done. Also, I can't say enough about the woman who took our order. We went on Hallowe'en and she was so friendly and sweet. She even combo'd my friend's meal so that she got a better deal. I wish I could remember her name but she was costumed as the 80s and helped make our Sonny's dinner into fantastic meal. (And now that I've seen the pictures of their ribs, another trip to Marietta has to happen and not only to see friends.) read more

I would have given it three stars but our waitress rocked. We went late I know but out of everything we ordered. I ended up with the chicken and it was good but the rest of my family didnt get what they wanted. My 2yr old loved the mac and cheese. It just sucks spending $100 on food you didnt want. read more

It was with heavy heart I wrote the last review of Sonnys' in Marietta, having had a duffer of a meal. I thought: so goes another legend. Back in Atlanta, I checked in my Hotel, dropped off my bags and headed straight for Sonnys. This time I ordered some little Corn things they had as an appetizer and the "Sonny's Sampler" wot had Dry-Rub Ribs, Chix, Brisket and Pulled/Sliced pork. Garlic Bread and sides of Greenie Beainies and ColeSlaw. Sounds like a Trencherman's delight, but it was actually not the tablefull it reads like. Well. This time the Ribs were juicy, not fatty, and tasty like they should be. The Chicken was Superb, as was the pulled and sliced Pork. I saved the brisket for last, 'cos I'm not a fan of well-done beef. Suffice it to say this well-done beef was WELL DONE. Juicy, tasty and right in line with the other meats on the platter. The little Cornie things were sweet and yummy. The Southern Green Beans were some of the best I've ever had, and the coleslaw was right up there too. Even the 1/2 'n 1/2 Southern Ice Tea was delicious. My waitress, the very capable Morgan looked like she was young enough to be playing hookie from 9th grade, but she was spot on in her service. A slight gaffe when she took away the remaining beans and coleslaw after the meats were done, but not enough to complain. This could explain the ashen tone her complexion took when I asked her to send the manager over to my booth. I told the Mgr about my shite meal the last time I was in and how much better it was this time, and complimented Morgan on her service, despite her filching my veggies. Damned if when Morgan returned with the box for my leftover Cornie Things, she included an order of Greenie Beanies and Coleslaw for me to take along. The gal has a career in customer service! Sonny's goes back in the pink, and will be a destination when we are in a city that is blessed with a Sonny's. I throw 4 stars, 'cos for now the clear Q standard-bearer for this fatboy is The Germantown Commissary outside of Memphis, which, sorry Sonny's, is a notch above, but 4 stars is pretty damned good. read more

Oh Sonny. We had such a wonderful time growing up in Marietta together. Now most of your locations in Georgia are closed. This was actually the first Sonny's I went to back when I was probably about 15. Back in the glory days when all you can eat pork was about $6. They ran a special a couple years back where it was about $7, but nowadays it is $11. Yeah it is not the best barbecue in the world but it is fast and relatively cheap. I get served in under five minutes usually and can order as much as I want. The fries are good. I personally do not like the corn nuggets that much, but several people I know love them. I stick with the sliced pork. It is usually quite good. The beef brisket is decent too. Avoid the sliced turkey. It is probably good they closed the closer locations to me or I would be eating massive quantities of meat more often. You can watch the Big Chicken roll his eyes and open and close his mouth as you dine from here too. I hope this location can weather the storm of closings and continue to put the large amount of meat in me that I desire. read more

For some reason, I've been feeling BBQ-ey, so I went to get a meal the other day. I decided to be wild and get something other than my standard pulled pork sandwich (didn't I try this before?). I asked to try the sliced beef. It was kinda dry, which one of the employees was kind enough to let me know just as I was having a sample. She suggested that I try the brisket instead. I did, it was pretty good. Ordered it to go, got some of that lovely sweet sauce, and took it to the house to eat along with my corn on the cobb. The brisket is alright, but I honesty think that ALL future visits are going to be limited to the pulled pork. I was talking to the boyfriend about his fave bbq and he gave me a great point. If a place has good sauce, they don't put any effort into seasoning their meat, they expect you to just drown it out with the sauce. Good point, that realy sucks. Oh, well... read more

Delicious BBQ that has a wonderful Smokey flavor on the ribs. They have all you can eat ribs as well. The only down side is that they only bring like three ribs per plate after the first one. Great side dishes like baked sweet apples, cole slaw, beans, etc.... Four types of sauces to choose from ranging from smokey to sweet and spicy. The staff is extremely courteous and professional.
