This location has a good health department store and is a favorite place of ours. The food is well prepared and in large enough portions to offset any qualms with pricing. Sonny's offers their BBQ meats sliced or pulled and a variety of their signature sauces. The only issue we have with this Sonny's is the lack of consistency with the employees. Some are fantastic in their service and are very friendly. Others, not so much. One pet peeve of mine that seems to happen here frequently, is when you're not even halfway through your meal and your drink is empty. A server stops by and asks if I want more beverage. Silly question. Do you really think I want to choke down the rest of my meal without anything to drink? Proper service would be to bring a fresh drink when the current beverage is has half or less remaining. This is the closest Sonny's to our home and it is worth the trip. read more

This was my first time eating here. I was a little disappointed. The food wasn't fresh at all. The garlic bread I was originally served was cold and hard . Asked for new bread (corn bread) I got it and it wasn't fresh either . Didn't even crumble. It was terrible. The sides I ordered (baked beans and sweet potato where really good. Pulled pork wasn't fresh. I LOVE PULLED PORK , so that was disappointing. The ribs where really good! I only ate one piece of brisket and same with the chicken. I feel like for the price we paid ($46) I should have been a lot happier leaving today. read more

The big secret to Sonny's (at least this Sonny's) is the salad bar. It keeps us coming back whenever we are in the area. Great sweet tea. The smoked chicken is fantastic. The BBQ and brisket is good but nothing special. I don't eat ribs so I can't help there. read more

I wanted to refresh my previous review from 10/13/2013 where I was very dissatisfied with basically everything inside the four walls of the Restaurant. I went back about 6 weeks ago on a Sunday morning at opening and greeted and taken to be seated. Immediately I was approached by the server, LINDA, a very kind and attentive server. I wasn't exactly sure of what I wanted to lunch, I knew it was ribs but they have three choices of ribs. Linda explained the difference of each rib and I ordered the one that I thought that I was what I wanted. Linda brought 1 from what would have been my second choice. I had ordered the AYCE so I stayed with my original choice based on LINDA's suggestion and I was happy. If this Sonnys had more servers like LINDA, I am telling you, their business would grow tremendously, she is so awesome. With that being said, I returned a couple weeks later, unfortunately LINDA was leaving for the day, her shift was over and I had to use another server and I had someone that appeared that she didn't want to be there for that Saturday afternoon shift. I am not one to give up so I returned a week later and was lucky, LINDA was there and I was sat in her section and I cannot tell you the difference in service, day and night is all I can say. She kept an eye on my, and made sure I was taken care of, my tea never ran out and AYCE meal was fantastic. Whoever the HR person is, or who ever does the hiring, you need to please give a kudos to LINDA for taking care of her customers and her area of the restaurant and try to model the next new hire after her and what she does. While traveling from South Florida to Nashville, I planned to meet a friend and former South Florida resident near his new place in Marietta, GA. Sonny's was always the only choice. Our mid-afternoon lunch still found the restaurant to be quite busy and on a short wait. Once seated, everything was perfect... timing of food, portions, quality, etc. I want to especially thank our server, Nancy, for keeping it all together in a challenging environment, while also maintaining a friendly and conversational attitude. Went here with some coworkers for lunch before we got on road to Hinesville :(. I tried the Sweet Carolina bbq and for the price it was pretty good. I ended up adding some sweet sizzling sauce and it made it that much more good. I kept it simple and had fries as my side. Came here for the all you can eat pork. The pork was terrific! Nicely seasoned, also all the sauces that had to choose from were good. The all you can eat deal came with unlimited sides (you could choose from the sides they offered). I had the broccoli, cinnamon apples, baked beans, and mac and cheese. For $13.95 you can't beat it! The only reason I'm knocking down one star is the sweet tea was not sweet, but that may have been the last in the container. Would definitely go again! read more

I was wondering why all the Sonny's in Georgia were closing. Now I may know why. I use to eat here once a week, 18 years ago. The BBQ was OK but the price reflected that. A sandwich, fries. slaw and a drink use to be around $6.00. Now around $9.00. The BBQ Turkey I had today was good and smokey. The slaw was way too sweet. The beans were way beyond sweet. (80%Molasses, 10%Sugar and 10% beans.) The Tea was good. The sauces, Meh. So, for $12.45 plus tip puts Sonny's in direct competition with every other Authentic BBQ joint in town. And they lose. BAD EXPERIENCE! The brisket was extremely dry and flavorless. The Texas toast was burnt to a crisp and the macaroni and cheese was just as cold as ice cream just coming out of the freezer. My husband and I came to eat here tonight what a disappointment it was. The place was newly remodeled and it looks real nice. However the menu is the same. Over priced food and not good at all. We have been here a couple of times and kept on telling ourselves it's our last time we go. Since they just remodeled we decided to give them 1 last shot. Our waitress seemed really overwhelmed. She had a few tables but nothing a good waitress wouldn't be able to handle. First she gave us wrong drinks. Then I open my utensils wrapped in a napkin and there was old food still on the fork. When I told the waitress she just yanked it out of my hands. Didn't say sorry or anything. Secondly she got our sides wrong. Then told me they were out of mostly everything but baked beans and French fries. She kept apologizing for everything cause she probably saw it in our eyes how disappointed we were in everything. I had smoked chicken which was bland. Had no flavor at all. My husband had brisket which looked like it was boiled brisket not smoked. The servers are nice, and the food is good. I always get some kind of pork sandwich. I wish they had more sauces though. I like to mix sweet and spicy, but the last time I was here they didn't have a spicy. They had a smokey variation, but I personally HATE most smokey tastes. Traveled all across the country and may have found my favorite competition style ribs. What does that mean? They won some competition with these ribs and added them to the menu. They have other types of ribs. I'll be back to try those next. Awesome smoke ring, sweet sauce. But it had balance. That's huge. I am a big lover for BBQ ribs. I ordered the ribs and smoky wings. The ribs from Sonny's are really good. Like the smoky flavor but it is not too much. The BBQ sauce is also great. The wings are not as good as ribs. For the sides, I had baked sweet potato, corn bread and coleslaw. Like the sweet potato and corn bread. Definitely will go back again for the ribs! read more

I am currently in this actual restaurant as I'm typing this review. My experiences in the recent past have been wonderful as I have dined in & ordered food to go. This WAS my favorite BBQ place in this area but my most recent couple of visits have been absolutely terrible. Bad customer service almost puts a bad enough taste in your mouth to make the food taste differently. Customer service can not be negotiated. On my last visit I ordered my food to go & was expecting that same customer service & fresh food. The lady who took my order behind the bar had an impatient demeanor & rushes me through my order only asking me "what else?" as I basically had to build my order rather than her asking me how I wanted it. She just kept repeating that until she finally asked me if that was all. It was a very rude experience but I didn't want it to be detrimental to my future visits. The food that I paid for was old & the meat was tough as if it had been sitting for a bit. I was very dissatisfied but here I am today trying to allow this place to redeem itself. Regretfully, I waked in & two employees were standing at the bar talking amongst themselves & didn't care to even so much as acknowledge me as I had taken a seat to review the bar menu & they both looked right at me when I very first walked in. Some time passed & I realized I wasn't going to be greeted as all of the employees rotating in & out of the kitchen kept passing me & after I had grabbed a table menu & seated myself at a dine-in table in hopes that someone would take my order. The lady behind the bar finally said to me, "Something to go?!" I continued to look over the menu & she then said, "Ordering something to go?" How rude! There was only one person in this entire lineup of staff that spoke to me as she passed me so I told the lady at the bar that I would wait on the lady who took the time out to greet me. She barely let me get out my response before trying to cut me off & say "ok". I went back & sat at the table hoping someone would finally take my order as I still hadn't even been greeted. I saw two different ladies standing at the bar & I approached them asking if I could get someone to take my order & as I started to explain to them what I had experienced, I was cut off by one & asked what I wanted to order. She could clearly care less about my experience so I told her that I'd like to order a manager but God couldn't have a better sense of humor as the same lady I was referring to at the beginning of this review WAS THE MANAGER!!!!! I tried to explain to her what I have just explained in this review but she could really care less. She gave me a nonchalant apology & grabbed her pad out of her pouch under her stomach asking me... "What can I getcha?! I gave her my order.. She took it.. Came back with my food.. Opened each box to show me what was in it with a sarcastic "ta-da" & gave me the receipt to pay. This place sucks. It's horrible. Don't go... This was a Saturday night. Reasonably busy but not packed. I got the ribs and chicken. Ribs were ok. Not bad but nothing to write home about. Chicken was DRY. Like crunchy on the inside. Fries sat under a heat lamp. Nope. I wasn't asked if I want garlic bread or cornbread so the server guessed I want garlic bread. I'm assuming it's frozen at one point because it was very tough and rubbery. I left half my meal on my plate. I told the server my thoughts. He offered to replace items. No thank you, just take this chicken off my bill. I'll cheerfully pay the rest. He insisted on bringing me new chicken. He didn't remove anything from my bill. It'd been a long while since I've had Sonny's. We've been on tour and had a long ride back to Nashville when I decided to stop in the Marietta location. The service was outstanding and the food was great like I remember it. Their manager Chris was extremely kind to stop by our table and make sure the pork was up to par. So with everything going on with COVID-19, I've tried to make sure I support restaurants and eat out as much as possible. I called Sonny's at 7:29 to place a pickup order, but was told they stop taking orders over the phone at 7pm despite closing at 8pm. I was then told I could order through DoorDash lol. We were in kind of a hurry since we were travelling, so I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the food came out. Oh Sonny's...what happened?!? I've eaten at Sonny's for over 10 years...they used to be reliable, consistent, great tea, fast, friendly, inexpensive, and, although not amazing BBQ, it was at least a good value for the money. Went today for the first time in ages (they have closed all the Sonny's I used to go to) and was soooo looking forward to it. I used to love the salad bar, which was always fresh and had a good variety, and the hot dogs / baked beans plate (I know...I know...it's a BBQ place...but their hot dogs were great!! Grilled until they were crusty-charred). Anyway...everyone was still friendly...but that's about the best I can say...and I'm so sorry! For starters, the tea was still good...HOWEVER...when we asked for additional lemon slices, we were brought out a little bowl of lemon slices that looked as if they had been sliced at least a week before...they were disgusting and I couldn't bring myself to drop one in my tea. Ugh! Then, I checked out the salad bar...the lettuce was brown and some of the other salads looked like they had been sitting there long enough to get that film on top...really, really gross. AND if you want Brunswick Stew with your salad bar, you have to pay extra! What?!? So, I skipped the salad bar and prepared to order my beans-n-franks...only to find out it is no longer on the menu. Sighhhh...I was about to the point of banging my head on the table with frustration and disappointment. It's not even like I had a lot of options...it was Mother's Day and you couldn't even get IN most restaurants! So, I sucked it up and picked something I don't usually pick at Sonny's...BBQ. I ordered the Big Deal Meal. You get your choice of sandwich, your drink, and your choice of either fries or beans - you used to get a choice of any one side, but no longer...it is fries or beans and that's it. I got the pulled brisket and baked beans, with a side of slaw. Slaw was still good...wish I could say the same for the rest. The beans were about 80% liquid and about 20% beans...you had to fish around for them. The pulled brisket was absolutely horrible. About 50% of it was edible, the rest was so tough you couldn't bite through it. While gingerly trying to chew one bite, I hit on a bone. Not good news since I have 11 crowns! Luckily, it did no damage other than to make me lose what was left of my appetite. Yet another place to which I won't return! read more

Always been a fan of Sonny's, they're not the best or most authentic BBQ place but they're the only place I know with sliced pork. They're a fast food chain, like the Taco Bell of BBQ places, so don't expect too much but convenience and decent food. I order here regularly and never many problems. read more
