Super solid at Sonoritas Prime Tacos, simply known at Sonoritas. They have a fun layout, great cozy patio overlooking Flower Street, just a block over from LA Live. Great comidas (food) y bebidas (drinks). There isn't really anyone at the door to greet or guide you, but they do have helpful signs letting you know to order at the bar. I'm not sure if this is the norm or what dinner is like here. We popped in for lunch and it was pretty chill. Service was prompt and thoughtful. Self serve water station as well as utensil and essential station (salt, pepper, napkins, to go boxes, plus more. It's no frills with great flavorful meals. My Grilled Veggie Bowl was close to perfect. Vegetarian options galore which most of which can be made vegano, sin queso o mayonesa (without cheese or mayo). No clearly laid out vegan items, but a lot of easy to modify veggie ones. Complimentary chips and salsa, forks in cool wooden boxes as well as napkins on most tables. Restrooms are clean, easy to access. No WiFi. Good music. Full bar. Okay for groups as some of the rooms can hold several. Staying in downtown for the weekend we didn't have to worry about parking, however paid garage, paid lot and limited street parking are your options as well as local L.A. Metro busses and stations. I love that there's a Sonoritas in downtown! It makes it more convenient for tourists staying in downtown and don't want to drive all the way to Marina Del Rey. The prices are up from when I had them a few years ago but the taste is still on point. You can't go wrong with their classic burrito, Mar Y Tierra which is jumbo grilled shrimp and juicy steak. It's legit as always and tastes delicious. This location is awesome with a much bigger space and a bar! They have nothing but excellent tequilas so be prepared to have real tasting quality drinks. We arrived at around 6:30 on a Friday night and were seated right away even though there was a private party using a significant portion of the restaurant. The service model is a little strange. It feels like a sit down restaurant but you order at the entrance and get a number. We got the carne asada burrito and carne asada Tijuana taco with a side of rice and beans. You get your first order of chips and salsa free if you dine in. The chips were kind of stale, though. Happy hour starts at 7 (it's also 3-5), so we got up to order round 2 -- margaritas and elote appetizer. This time we had to go order at the bar. It looked like some people were getting table service, so we were a little confused by it all. The food was passable, but not the best Mexican food we've ever had. The rice was a little hard and they only use one tortilla for the taco, which you know is going to fall apart. The tortilla for the burrito also needed to be warmed more. Salsas were too spicy for my taste, but hubby liked them Elote was solid. Margaritas were strong, but the strawberry didn't have much strawberry flavor. Here's a hot take: everyone's going to tell you that you must order the Mar y Tierra burrito (basically surf and turf). Sure, it's good--really good, in fact--but it's not better than the al pastor burrito or the straight-up shrimp burrito. Yeah, I said it. The asada is fine, but when the other fillings are this good, why bother? Pro tip: bring a friend with similar taste, each order a different burrito, and then swap halves. That way you get the best of both worlds, like a culinary parent trap without the child labor laws. Presentation is on point, too. The restaurant wasn't very crowded on a Friday night and I kind of understand why. I didn't want to give any less stars because it might have just been the meal I got this time but it was waaaaaay too salty!! My husband and I both ordered burritos and we were practically dying of thirst during and long after dinner. I also noticed it was too salty from my first bite. I ordered the chicken burrito and my husband ordered the steak burrito. We ordered some guacamole for the table and I'm glad we did because it was very good! Have no choice but to update my review here. Went in last night for two burritos. No chips or any additional side orders. I did order a Diet Coke and my wife just had water. $60 later. How? For a place where you walk up to order, then have no server, just not a big bang for your buck. The food is great. But I can have two great burritos and a soda for closer to half the price. Public parking lots do cost significantly more than the metered parking. The restaurant itself is such a fun vibe. They play great upbeat music and the decor is very inviting and eye catching. You don't see the same artwork twice throughout the entire place. We were greeted right away and for those who haven't been here before you get seated but place your order at the bar. They give you chips and salsa which are addicting so save room for your meal. We split the mar y Tierra burrito and the churro volcano. Both were insanely delicious!! Mixed feelings about this place. First time I dropped by there was a massive lineup so went elsewhere. Second time we dropped in 5 minutes before opening, but they ended up opening 10 minutes later than their posted hour. Third time I can back they gave everyone free chips and salsa. Mar Y Tierra Burrito - a half burrito for about $10. Burrito itself is a good size even for half size. The burrito is stuffed with tastiness. On my third return, came back for a second order of the same thing. Would definitely come back again when I have the chance! I've been to Sonoritas other location as well but this location is my favorite. Their drinks are always soo good. I recently ordered their cucumber margarita and it was soooo good I almost ordered another. My bf enjoyed their cucumber agua fresca as well. I ordered the surf and turf burrito which I enjoyed and I think it has good flavor. I like ambiance of this location. I will definitely be returning when I'm in the area again. (Of course in La parking is never the best..street parking ) the would probably be the only downside but other then that it's a good spot. read more

We came at an off time for lunch (around 3:30 PM), so it was quiet and there was plenty of seating. It's pretty casual, you order at the counter and then sit wherever you want. I got the grilled veggie burrito and a pistachio horchata. The meal also came with free chips and salsa, which is a nice touch. The burrito was quite good, the veggies were cooked well and had good flavor. I liked the salsa that it came with as well. I was disappointed with the pistachio horchata, it was just sweet and didn't really taste like either pistachio or horchata. Service: Staff is nice, however, they do a poor job of explaining anything to new first time customers. They only explained to grab menus, sit anywhere, and order at the bar. Food: we ordered, 2 rib eye plates, taco sampler, two tacos one senora style and one TJ style, and Guacamole with chips. I asked the employee if the Guac came with chips she said yes, when it came to the table only two chips arrived. The food overall is bland and not worth the price, another interesting thing is that they put what I believe is either smoked paprika or smoked chipotle powder on EVERYTHING we had, from the chips to the rice to the corn and it was so overpowering, ruined the experience. Corn was bad, small and not sweet, tried on the Cobb and shaved off both were terrible. You can get more with flavor from a street vendor. The only thing that was good was the pina colada margarita. I asked another staff about the Guac and how it came with just two chips and he said that chips are bottomless. Again how are new customers supposed to know? Very poor training of the staff. Ambiance: Looks nice, music is too loud. Overall, this seems to be just a good bar maybe that's why there are better food reviews bc they already had drinks. Definitely needs to improve customer service on how their business model works and how their food is served and what it comes with, and if certain things are 'bottomless'. For this area, this restaurant is a good mid-range priced restaurant. The server was over stretched on lunchtime table service but he was friendly and fast. The tacos were freshly prepared and tasty- the shrimp one especially so. The beans and rice a nice contrast with the more seasoned tacos. I don't agree with the review that found them too salty. My bf and I came here for dinner before a Clippers-Mavs playoff game. It was our first time here. In terms of location it is very convenient to the Crypto.com arena. As another review stated, the entry can feel misleading because if the outside is empty it feels like the business isn't open. When we walked in further we were able to find more people and grab a table. The atmosphere was alive and thriving as there were many groups of Clipper fans and others enjoying themselves. We got the hibiscus margaritas and they were absolutely delicious. Would definitely order again. The food was a little meh. The meat in the tacos all tasted juicy, but there wasn't much flavor to go with it. I think I liked the chicken taco the best, but it could still have a bit more flavor to it. The chips and salsa were fine - not the best I've had, but not awful either. If we were to come back I'd want to try some of their other foods. Maybe a burrito would be better? I can never properly establish a relationship with this restaurant. Every time I return, they've changed systems and/or seating arrangements, usually for the worse. On top of that, I rarely understand their hours. They seems to be opened and closed at random. Whether that is reality or not remains to be seen, but that is my perception. The weird scenario of ordering at the register and sitting down, then coming back up every time you need another drink or sauce feels like the service is lacking. Great spot down the street from LA Live to stop for some upscale tacos and burritos before game or a concert. They bring a complimentary basket of chips and salsa. Salsa was flavorful but mild, there was no kick at all. For an additional appetizer we ordered the Queso fundido w/ carne asada. It comes with three small tortillas and lots of chunks of asada with each scoop of cheese. I also used the chips to eat the Queso. I wanted to try the tortilla soup. It's a thick, heavy soup (not creamy) filled with cabbage, tomatoes and tortilla strips. For dinner, we shared the Mar y Tierra Burrito. It's filled with angus beef, spicy shrimp, guacamole, rice, beans & pico de gallo. The chipotle mayo addition to the burrito gave it a great smokiness. There was a lot of meat in each bite. The hostess stand is a little confusing. The sign says come in and check in. When we got there there was no one at the first desk/stand looking place. We continued to walk in because there was no one to greet us. We walked through the next set of "doors" and a server made eye contact and sat us at a table. No harm, no foul, just a little confusing for us rule followers. I was on my way to a Clipper game so I parked in the El Cholo lot and jay walked across the street (here I'm a non-rule follower for convenience ). Putting 4 stars because of the bartender. He was extremely attentive and helpful came to check on us a couple of times and was all around great all while taking food orders and drink orders. Kind of a weird set up they got going on. You order at the bar and they give you a number to put at your table. Pictures online are a little exaggerated. The burritos aren't as big as they seem but overall they were good. The vibe of the place is good. Good music. Bar type setting. Got the mar y Tiera burrito, lengua burrito, a strawberry margarita, shot of Jameson and negra modelo. $73 for everything.
