We ordered combo D between two people. It will comfortably feed 3. We were stuffed. Their pork was flavorful. Coming from a beef guy, I think I will order all pork at Sookdal.

One year later and still my favorite kbbq place. It's really rare when I like every food at a place, but I love their banchan, I love their soybean soup, I love the meat (pork belly especially) and they cook it perfectly, everything is so so good!

This was recommended to me by a friend and it did not disappoint. The amount of variety of side dishes here are amazing. The meat quality is amazing, the cuts are incredibly tender and flavorful. The waiters cook for you and they did a great job in making sure things were cooked correctly and to our liking. Perfect place to have some KBBQ and soju. Make sure you don't wear anything nice because it will make it smell, there's also splatter from the oils of the meat. The parking lot is small and very limited, but they have valet option.

i'm usually a beef person but Sookdal's pork rlly impressed me! My fav was the pork belly, it was tender and juicy and the worker who helped us cook it even made sure the temperature was right before placing them on the grill what i ordered: * combo c (pork belly, pork collar, skirt meat, pork jowl, kimchi stew, cheese, steamed eggs) * risotto with cream sauce Very filling, definitely enough for 3 people! Loved both the service and atmosphere

One of the best pork based kbbq there is! Their pork belly is insanely good with their sides of lettuce and their sauce! They have servers that cooks everything for you so you can just enjoy the meal! Loved this business model and their services! Highly recommend the combo with beef brisket! Nice way to end the meal!

Loved everything about this place plus they cook for you? YES! Definitely try their wet-aged pork belly! There are instructions of different ways to eat the meat and I enjoyed every single one. We had combo B which was perfect for two people and it comes with steamed eggs, soup and cheese. We also got the spicy cold noodles and that was my absolute favorite! They made sure we were always taken care of and Shawn was so nice and welcomed us! It's located on the second floor and there is valet parking on the first floor. This place truly deserves more recognition. If you're craving some pork belly, this is the place! We had plenty of leftovers so it was happy to enjoy it again the next day. This is a great place to catch up with friends and/or get dinner with the family!

Came right at opening and this instantly became my new favorite KBBQ spot. Service was amazing from the moment we sat down, and Combo A was more than enough food; generous portions, plentiful banchan, and seriously top-tier meat quality. Everything tasted so fresh and well prepared. The ambience was comfortable yet vibey, perfect for a night out with a bestie or a lover. I'll definitely be bringing everyone here & already can't wait to come back!!

Obsessed. Will return as many times as I can while in LA. First tried Sookdal in Garden Grove and fell in love... so now that there's a location in Koreatown??? I am ecstatic! We ordered the set with dry-aged pork belly and pork jowl. Everything else you see on the table is included! And each item can be used to wrap the pork in so every single bite it different. It's truly a culinary experience that I will always appreciate. Sookdal will always have my heart!

Amazing aged pork--crispy outside, super tender and juicy inside, with no pork smell at all. The pork belly is rich but not greasy. Full-service grilling, no effort needed. Fun meat ID cards showing aging details. Popular Korean chain, now

Such a great-value Korean BBQ spot in Koreatown. The service was on point, the meat was delicious, and the prices were really reasonable. Definitely worth a try.

Food was great and price was good. The banchan is all pickled veggies. Kimchee was good. A set was good for 3 ppl and we still have a few meats leftover. Ordered the kimchee kooksoo and got the kimchee jigae. The jigae was good but I don't think I would get noodles next time. The steamed egg was also good. One of the better ones I had and it was a mountain.

Amazing meat quality, great service, and tons of sides. If you love thick-cut pork belly or aged meat, this place is definitely worth trying. Their signature thick-cut aged pork belly is incredible, no porky smell at all, super juicy, and crispy on the outside. The service was excellent. The staff grilled everything for us, checked the grill temperature, and cooked each piece perfectly, so we could just relax and enjoy. Both the pork belly and the ribeye were fantastic. The ribeye was tender, juicy, and honestly better than what I've had at many BBQ places. They also offer a huge variety of side dishes and sauces, and they even have a guide on different ways to enjoy the meat, like salt, garlic oil, wasabi, cheese, pickled leaves... every combo tasted great.

Hangari Kalguksu is doing really well for themselves! It is good to see. There have been so many changes, but I am not a fan of the changes. What was once meticulously fresh prepared side dishes are now generic looking out of a jar side dishes. They have started to feature more things and have expanded their menu, as well as expanded their shop so that it is much bigger. Still packed! Parking is still valet and a hassle. The waiters and waitresses now speak perfect english, which was nice. Kalguksu is still very good. Overall, it feels more commercial than homely now. As a commercial restaurant, it is good. However, not a place I would travel for anymore. I can get this experience from most local spots. I am keeping this review at a 5 star, because it still is worthy of a 5 star. However, it is a lesser 5 star than 13 years ago.

I used to love this place. I first came here over 10 years ago, back when the restaurant was about…read morehalf its current size before the expansion. It was one of my favorite spots for kalguksu, so I was excited to come back. We visited on a Saturday around 2:00 PM. The first thing that stood out was the wait. There was a line outside despite there being numerous vacant tables inside the restaurant. I'm not sure why customers were expected to wait outside, especially during the current LA heat wave, when seating appeared to be available. While waiting, we were given menus. The first thing I noticed was the price increase. The clam kalguksu is now $22.99, which felt quite expensive, even accounting for inflation. Once seated, we were served the rice with doenjang paste and the three varieties of kimchi. Unfortunately, I found almost all of the kimchi to be noticeably saltier than I remembered, with the exception of the radish kimchi, which was enjoyable. I honestly don't remember the kimchi tasting this salty in the past. It even made us wonder whether it was intended to discourage customers from requesting refills, though I hope that wasn't the case. We ordered the new beef rib kalguksu and the clam (bajirak) kalguksu. The beef rib broth was overwhelmingly salty for our taste, to the point that I mentioned it to our server. The hand-cut noodles themselves were still excellent, but I also noticed that the clam kalguksu contained significantly fewer clams than I remember from previous visits--roughly half the portion I used to receive years ago. The noodles remain well made, but it's difficult to justify the current price when the portions seem smaller and the broths are considerably saltier than before. What originally made this restaurant special to me was its fresh, clean-tasting broth, flavorful kimchi, and generous amount of clams. Unfortunately, my recent visit didn't live up to those memories. With so many excellent kalguksu restaurants in the area, I don't see myself returning. I understand that restaurants evolve and may adjust recipes to appeal to a broader customer base, especially since most of the diners during my visit appeared to be non-Korean. However, I genuinely miss the balanced flavors, generous portions, and value that made this restaurant stand out years ago.

The bone marrow is a very subtle but nice addition, the tartare is dominated by the sesame oil and needs nothing more. Tartare comes in a generous portion Pork jowl: must order if you like pork. Good quality, cooked perfectly, pairs really well with the chili oil. So good with the accompanying rice Corn latte: order if you like unique desserts. It is sweet, has the hint of saltiness from the foam, a very faint corn flavor, the jelly adds great texture especially paired with the coffee flavored bed of shaved ice. If you're searching for some of the city's best pork, then those in the know will bring up Ham Ji Park. For 2 decades, generous platters of pork ribs and pork neck stew decked every table. Now, our Korean friends lament the loss of their favorite pork joint in the city. The Koreatown proper location is located in the Royal Plaza mini-mall, just a few blocks off bustling Wilshire. Discounted parking is available in a lot across the street from the Chevron gas station. From the street, the entrance is flanked by potted plants and an enclosed street-ery. Inside, stainless steel chairs are pressed up against wooden tables, each outfitted with a metal grill. Oppressive fluorescent lighting shines down on the stone grey walls, which are left undecorated apart from a few flatscreens. Multi-lingual chatter blends with the sizzle of platters. I visited with some friends for a weeknight dinner, and about half of the tables were occupied. We shared a spread of grilled platters and sizzling soups. The meal began with a carafe of barley tea and a mostly standard spread of banchan. Across our food, the best dish was the signature Charbroiled Pork Spare Rib. The ribs were flavorful without feeling gamey, and the meat was complemented by sweet caramelized onions. The pork ribs handily outdid the good-not-great Charbroiled Beef Short Rib. Lastly, the Milt and Cod Rose with Vegetables stew was fishy and briny, appropriately flavored for the Korean palate. The service was appropriately attentive, although I would've appreciated more intentional refills of our banchan ramikens. The rib plates cost upward of $35 each, while the soup was just under $30. The portions were hearty; a single entree platter could reasonably feed 2 moderately hungry bellies. It's a shame to hear that Ham Ji Park has closed; I'm kicking myself for not trying their pork neck stew earlier.
