The address is King's Beach but this is really close to Crystal Bay (before driving down the hill to King's beach). The outside is sooo cute. The interior and small and intimate. They have a nice selection of wine. The staff is friendly and the head waiter is very knowledgeable. The food was delicious. One of our favorite dining experiences in Tahoe. Pricing was fair approx $40ish for entrees (some cheaper and some more expensive). The intimate environment would be great for dates or holiday. Date night!! Loved this place! We arrived on a Friday 45 minutes early and we sat at the bar outside till our table was ready. Bartender was pleasant and let us try different wines before choosing. Once inside the waiter Steve was awesome! Recommended specials which I accepted an offer to. The Thai Scallop sauce was SO good I wanted to drink it! I had the Australian fish and my fiancé had the lamb. We had perfect service, not too invasive yet attentive. Cuuuuuute cabin vibe down to the bathrooms being super cute. As far as the negative reviews. Well, they are comical. It's Tahoe it's going to be busy sometimes. Also, if you know Tahoe it's not arrogance it's a Tahoe vibe. The cabin is charming inside. The chef/owner has been at this site for 30 years and he is there 5 nights a week. There are so many unique items on the menu we had to have almost all of them. We started with three scallop dishes and loved the Meyer lemon sauce. I loved my duck served with an amazing sauce. I would get that again. We thought we had to take dessert to go but we had a couple of bites which were memorable. The bread pudding was Devine and the strawberry cheesecake equally good. We will return! read more

What a quaint and cute little place! It looks like a log cabin inside and out. The waiter was super friendly and gave great service. My experience was likely due to our staying over 2 hours. Ordered desert and coffee. Didn't realize we had pushed the time limits. Totally understand the issue. The response was the owner giving a hand motion and mouthing to the hostess to get us the hell out of there. All in clear eyesite of us. It was done in such an obnoxious and rude way. Anyway, total time miscalculation on our part. Still, it wasn't a nice way to end the evening. Felt really uncomfortable and never went back. The intent was to find an anniversary place to go back to each year. Just a thought: We had this happen to us once before at a different establishment, except it was handled in a very classy way. The hostess asked if she could treat us to an after dinner drink at the bar. We all got up and happily moved. This hidden gem is on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe, on the California side of the stateline between Nevada & California in King's Beach. The classic "log cabin", which they converted to a restaurant when they opened in 1985, has some of the best "atmosphere" I've ever experienced and some of the best food I've ever tasted! The log cabin is small and charming, but inside, it doesn't feel stuffy. With exposed rafters under a high roof, there is a feeling of spaciousness combined with the intimacy of the cabin's size. The decor is plain and understated, yet distinctive. Family artifacts and heirlooms abound, along with vintage photographs from around the lake. It all lends itself to an alluring atmosphere which complements the excellent food and service. They proudly feature local artists throughout the restaurant's log cabin walls and periodically rotate who is being showcased. The Chef/Owner chooses artists that he personally knows and wants to support. Customers are encouraged to buy directly from the restaurant or welcome to contact the artist themselves. The Chef/Owner, Charlie Soule, is a genius in the kitchen, presenting food with his own unique touch, giving traditional dishes their own twist from his extensive years in the culinary arts, while infusing them with influences from around the globe. I waited too long to post my review and based on the pictures that I took, I don't even remember what I got. What I do remember is that it was decent...pricing was fair to high, but it's ok. It is a very intimate restaurant and if you're looking for something more "special" than what is typically offered around Lake Tahoe, and this area in particular, then this is a good choice. I remember everything tasting ok enough, but it wasn't enough for me to remember anything great. We also got 3 desserts and I also don't remember anything great about it. I do remember that some parts of the food were just weird. LIke, let's just throw some random fruit onto a dish and call it a day. And in all honesty, it's not like it tasted bad or something, some of the fruit actually complemented it pretty well so if you're into unique type of things, this place might fit the bill. This might of been my favorite meal on my Vacation. The inside was very cabin-like but the music in the background almost didn't go with the interior but I was feeling it. One of the songs was from a group called Tuxedo that I love on YouTube so I was diggin it. But overall the food was amazing. I recommend everything. Prices are very generous for the quality of food you get too. I don't even like Corn Chowder and I had a sip of it and thought it wasn't too bad. This particular night I ordered the Fettuccine with Shrimp and it was the best Fettuccine I've had in awhile. The sauce was to die for. The vegetables tasted fresh and just all the flavors hit in the right ways. My girl got the Pork Tenderloin and I also had a bite of that. The meat was sooo tender and flavorful. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants a good sit down dinner. I will say that the service is amazing as well but on our particular visit they kept filling up our water glasses after 1 or two sips. When it comes to restaurants I will say that I always prefer to be checked on a lot versus being ignored but I do think the water being filled up every couple minutes is a little excessive. We celebrated our 20th Anniversary with dinner here. The service was friendly and attentive and full of smiles. The food was amazing, my wife had the pork tenderloin cooked to perfection, tender with a very tasty sauce accompanied with fresh vegetables and roasted potatoes. I had the shrimp fettuccini with fresh pasta, and seasoned well - nothing over powering in the dish. Prior to the entree we were served a cauliflower curry soup which was equally delicious. We topped our meal off with their signature flourless chocolate cake - a perfect ending to a fantastic meal. We would highly recommend the Soule Domain for your dining pleasure. The service here is questionable. I had to ask two different servers for salt. One server I asked a second time and it was finally provided. The complementary bread was served with a strange hummus mix which did not complement the bread that was provided. I went here for my birthday with my girlfriend and paid for the meal myself because I couldn't let this be considered a treat. We had ravioli and wontons as appetizers. The ravioli was the most half decent part of the meal. The wontons were served so untraditionally that it makes you wonder who is pairing the flavors, who serves the wontons with horseradish mustard? Everything from the fresh fish of the day to the shrimp scallop lobster plate was served with some version of cherry tomatoes. I highly would not recommend eating here. Go somewhere else and skip having an expensive experience you'll regret. read more

I don't know where to begin. Let's start with our arrival. The restaurant looks adorably quaint from the outside but that's where it ends. From the inside, it comes across as quirky because it's in a log cabin with tacky art for sale. The hostess and everyone working there is about 16 years old. The hostess stand is a complete mess. While we arrived there first, another two top was seated before us. The menu did not reflect the online menu and didn't progress from light to heavier entrees. Photos and menus online look great! It's what got us there! However, what we got was very different. Every dish basically had the same mediocre tomato based sauce. We ordered three dishes with different sauces and yet they all tasted the same after the Thai sauce. After being told they're known for their scallop dishes, the scallops arrived and were nicely cooked but a couple hadn't been cleaned properly. The owner thinks the online menu has been updated to reflect their summer menu...maybe check and do it if you haven't? Maybe food sourcing and sourcing labor in the back and front of the house has been tough? I can empathize. Maybe pare down the menu if times are tough? We left immediately after the entrees because the meal was too sad to handle yet another disappointment. Wasn't worth getting dressed up and driving to Kings Beach. It breaks my heart to leave this review for one of the few identified fine dining restaurants in North Lake. Maybe they're resting on their laurels? Maybe they're just tired and going through a tough time? I know this review won't make much of a difference because there is such a low supply of decent restaurants with high demand, especially in the summer. Maybe there will be changes to come...but I won't know about them because I won't be back. Updated addition: So the owner responded with a pretty defensive position below without taking any accountability or apologies with one of the saddest dining experiences I've had. My partner and I stopped by this restaurant after seeing all of the good reviews. We were in South Lake Tahoe for a few days for our anniversary and prepared all of our meals, so we thought we'd go out to a nice dinner for our anniversary. Surprisingly, it was extremely difficult to get a table and decided to sit outside since that was all that was available. We were greeted warmly by the bartender who checked in on us and served us the entire night. He was super friendly and gave us some recommendations on what to order. I got the fish and my boyfriend got the Thai noodle soup dish and Penne Alfredo. Another server brought the soup and held the bowl with his fingertips, obviously still scorching hot and filled to the brim. Some of the soup splashed onto the ground as he made his way over to us. The soup was extremely sour with absolutely no seasoning. My fish was not a pretty sight- slathered with an unidentifiable sauce that was neither sweet nor sour. The fish on its own was cooked well, but the sauce completely ruined the entire dish. The fettucini Alfredo was the only thing that saved us from going hungry that night, although it lacked flavor, its ingredients were identifiable and thus, easy to digest. It's a very charming restaurant and we were super lucky to get a Wednesday evening 5:30 PM reservation a mere 5 hours in advance. Our dinner experience was amazing! The food came out hot, the flavors and sauces were outstanding, and the service was fantastic. We ordered the Lobster Wontons appetizer, White Shrimp Fresh Sea Scallops & ¼ Maine Lobster Tail with Fettucine entree, and the Oregon Petrale Sole daily fish special. The soup of the day was Cauliflower soup. The lobster wonton appetizer came with 3 wontons. The ginger, shiitake mushrooms, and other seasonings paired very well with the lobster. The Chinese mustard and red chili dipping sauce served on the side was HOT and we felt the wontons had plenty enough flavor without the need to add any hot sauce. Rating: 8 I wasn't expecting to like the cauliflower soup but it was really really good! I'm not a huge fan of cauliflower or of soup in general, but the cauliflower flavor had a perfect subtleness and was accented with a touch of cumin seasoning. Rating: 8 My wife had the Oregon Petrale Sole. She described it as very flavorful (blend of lemon, garlic, and mushroom flavors and a light panko coating) and cooked to perfection. Rating: 10 I ordered the Shrimp, Scallop, Lobster Tail with Fettucine. OMG! Per the menu: "sautéed w/ red bell peppers, fresh basil, tomatoes, mushrooms and lemon garlic butter; cheese & onion." It was a perfect late afternoon as Maria and I arrived at Soule Domain to cap off our 35th wedding anniversary. We were seated outside in a lovely setting and both of us were thrilled to have secured a reservation. We ordered a bottle of wine, an escargot and a scallops appetizers. I had asked if the scallops were fresh and our server informed me they were. When our appetizers arrived I noticed a rather strong seafood aroma emitting from the scallop I mentioned it to the young lady who was our server. Her reply was they were shipped from somewhere on the east coast. The scallops were cold. The escargot was also cold and the sauce was tasteless. I politely mentioned our concerns to our service and so we shrugged and indulged in our celebratory dining after ordering our main courses. I ordered the lamb chops and Maria opted for a filet mignon, both responded to our server "medium well" when asked how we wanted the meats cooked. To our dismay, when our meal was placed on the table, my lamb chops were well done and so was Maria's filet mignon. After relating to our server that our entrees were overcooked, I am assuming she left to talk to the chef. She came back shortly and without saying word picked up our plates and disappeared into the restaurant. Within a couple of minutes she was back, set our plates on the table and said that the chef said there is nothing wrong with our meals. That is where we differed from the chef's decision and most diners would too. We. Know what we ordered and what we were served was not what we ordered. We were not upset but we were highly disappointed. As a matter of routine, we paid for our appetizers and the bottle of wine plus a 20%+ tip for our server and we left. Came back to Soule domain with my parents who were in town and had another excellent and memorable meal. The weather was beautiful so we sat outside enjoying the breeze and the woodsy, classic cozy cabin setting. The Riesling wine that we tried was perfect, not too sweet as some rieslings are, very smooth. Our favorite dish were the sea scallops that were so tender and tasty, little pillowy succulent rounds of perfection. I enjoyed my duck breast and the raspberry sauce was the perfect topping. I love how homemade all the food at Soule domain tastes, the sides of rice and veggies are well roasted and tasty without any salt, butter or added ingredients, just the simple good stuff at Soule domain. The Hawaiian Ono fish was also really tasty and something I had never tried before! Love new and exciting dishes. The starter tomato soup was amazing, so decadent and didn't even taste like it had tomatoes in it- perfect. Came here for dinner the other day for dinner. I was very grateful they can fit us in the same day. It was a cute little log cabin, has a homey feeling With a fire place. The fire went out half way during dinner and the room became very smoky which somewhat "ruined" dinner. Was hard to breath inside. I have to say, the appetizer was wowzer and the entrees was not so impressive. We started off with lobster wonton, I can barely taste the lobster but the flavor was there. Everything came together in this dish, The dough of the wonton was al dente, good twist to the traditional wontons. The Thai scallop was yummy! The scallops were cooked perfected. I liked the sauce a lot especially with the noodles on the side. They even used reals lemongrass. Very authentic and different. The mushroom fettuccine was probably the best dish that night. Omg the pasta was soooooo good! I think they make it in house. The use of the shiitake was brilliant. It's almost like a piccata but its not. Who would of thought caper and shiitake can marry that well together. Pear Salad was light, I appreciate they separating them into 2 different dishes. The soup was light and packed of flavor! the specialty that night was the chicken Parmesan, not the traditional chicken parm with tomato sauce, this one had a Mediterranean twist. Chicken was cooked excellent but I'm not sure about the olive and the sauce. I mean it is pretty good, but I was really looking forward to a more Italian twist. Duck was good, even better after I took it home. The sauce was a bit on the sweet side, almost a little too sweet, the strawberries lighten up the dish but could use some kind of citrus flavor. The udon was disappointing. Too many different kind of vegetables, some didn't go so well with others. I rather the chef picked fewer vegetables that work well together. This is kind of like a teriyaki stir fry. We were in a hurry to leave so we didn't even get dessert, not even the complimentary ones that suppose to come with the dinner special. I messed up our reservation with a serendipitous outcome: we dined in the garden wine bar with the wonderful Rachelle as our caretaker. The advantages of the garden are that you can choose from the wine bar menu or the main menu, you are in the fresh air, and Rachelle. Fresh warm breads, spreadable butter, and hummus arrived gratis, and then came the wines we ordered which impressed with generous pours and respectful prices. The old vine Zinfandel, Amador County, was surprisingly good, full and rich. We ordered two appetizers: fettuccine, and raviolis, both delicious, and two incredible salads, one with 2 perfectly cooked and tender lamb chops, and one with lean venison sausages, both with a lovely mound of greens and garnishes including cheese crumbles, fresh, crispy croutons, and lightly dressed. As it was my husband's birthday dinner we ordered dessert, a rarity at this point as most are disappointing and just calories. Well, wow. The homemade ice cream is lightly "spiced", so flavorful, and served with berries and a crisp, textured, tasty cookie. It's like 3 desserts in one, and more than enough for two to share. We were so pleased with our entire experience, and mainly due to the very gracious Rachelle. Try the garden wine bar, you will not be sorry. The dining rooms are no doubt lovely as well, I just can't speak to that first hand. There is a fireplace which must be ultra-cozy in winter. read more

Incredible gem in Tahoe City. Steven took great care with our group of 7 last night for a 40th birthday. It's been a long time since I've seen service this sharp, witty & patient. Truly an outstanding professional. He alone, should really win an award. I mean, really really special. Worth it to go even just for Steven - but the food and ambience were absolutely top tier as well. We felt so lucky to have found this perfect spot. This, folks, is a gem.... A week in the area and found Soule Domain our last night. By far our best meal. So cozy and rustic inside. While there is an Asian influence on some of the dishes, there is so much variety including dishes that do not. Steve our server was outstanding. We would have eaten here again for certain had time allowed. Highly recommended. read more

Food was decent, a little under salted. Scallops and Korean shrimp:solid 8/10 Duck breast: good flavor with the raspberry sauce Lamb rack with pesto: also lacked salt and flavor Flan: not very solid and extremely wet jello like. Sorbet:good flavor but they didn't strain/filter the seeds out so the whole scoop was extremely grainy. Wine was great. But when a customer is looking at a bottle in the 35 dollar price range and asking you for a recommendation and you upsell them to a 89 dollar bottle. You should at least let the customer know the price instead of assuming that's the money they want to spend on a bottle of wine. I wouldn't have had a problem with it if you just COMMUNICATED. Great job on the upsell. But cmon man. That's basic knowledge. Overall I would skip it and not come back and that's coming from someone who actively works in fine dining. read more

Everything was either just okay or tasteless. The cauliflower soup tastes like they blended boiled cauliflower with hot water and a few spices. It was the worst restaurant soup I've ever been served. Had 2 spoons and Left 95% of the horrible soup. read more
