Came here this afternoon for a last minute lunch and was pleasantly surprised. From the staff to the salad bar, it's all wonderful! They have soups, salads, burgers, sandwiches, wine, etc. there is a fresh salad bar and that's what caught my eye. Not a million options, but enough. $7.75 (I think) for one trip. So it's not unlimited salad but the plates are on the larger side. I got a hefty salad and the veggie pasta with Alfredo sauce. The pasta was very delicious. Not a ton of veggies, but I didn't care for the veggies anyways! My cousin got the crab cake and I tried it. I normally hate fish, but it was SO tasty. I don't know much about crab, but my cousin said it was flavorful, moist, fresh, rich and BIG. It was the size of a burger! The staff is super sweet, knowledgeable, professional, kind and attentive. They all work together well. The view is outstanding. It's amazing. I included a picture- I love a good view when I'm eating. Pricing is very good too. Pike's market is an overwhelming place of sights, smells, sounds and people. It's seriously hard to decide what and where to eat with so many options. Since we were very tired from walking so much, I definitely wanted a restaurant to sit down and eat in. While I appreciated the view and a table, the food here seriously left a lot to be desired. The crab cake burger was $16 and I'm not sure there was any crab in it to be honest. It was mostly bread and filler. After the first bite, I had serious regrets I wasn't eating from any number of other vendors. Oh and ps...there are menus on the tables but no one comes to take your order. Tried this cafe on a whim, hoping for good coffee and good views while I worked on school work. Coffee isn't listed on the menu, so I was pleasantly surprised when the mocha I got was actually pretty good! Wow. How sad! It's hotel food with not even hotel service! Terribly disappointed! I love pike place and I also work at one of the tiny shops there. My goal is to try all the restaurants and food stops in Pike Place! So I picked Sound view today... I regret that choice. SO MUCH. It was about 10am and I ordered "Sam's special" from the breakfast special. It's already confusing once you go in there you see a salad bar on the right and you need to order first and they will get the food to you. However there's no sign saying "pay here"/ "cashier" / "Order here!" sign. I went in, waited for someone to tell me what to do, nobody did. They were so chill and careless about who is standing there looking confused. Anyways, I was reading the menu for about 5 mins and kinda want to leave (especially when I see turkey bacon like WHAT?!) and FINALLY one of the staffs using an annoyed voice saying "Hi how can I do for you today" and then I asked about the bacon. Nope, no pork at the restaurant. Fine. So I ordered the turkey sausage spinach omelet aka Sam's special. I sat down near the window and the view is pretty nice, but not as nice as the restaurant upstairs because building kinda blocked a bit of the view already and it's not as clear to see the whole sea, island, fair wheel view. Anyways I wasn't too impressed by the service already so I looked forward for the food. I actually counted...I waited 22 minutes for my food to come and guess what? It's GODDAMN WATERY SCRAMBLE EGG WITH WATER BOILED SAUSAGE CHUCKS AND SPINACH!!! Oh and the waiter actually couldn't see me when he yelled my name twice...I had to wave at him, say HERE pretty loud, and then say it again louder, and then one more time super loud literally everyone can hear me then he realized I'm on his right side. Very cool. At least 3 tables of people looked at me because of that. I tried and I didn't want to, but he could not see me... wow. (P.S. I guess in that situation he might as well walk around to look for me but no, he stood there look at one direction only and yelled my name... why? how about just ask me to pick it up then?) Sorry, back to the food. SAD. That is really badly cooked eggs. It's just middle school trash foodcourt food! And my college foodcourt actually can do better omelet than this! I ate the whole thing in 10 mins and kept thinking I could do way better than this myself why am I paying $10 bucks for this shh. :( I can't really say how disappointed I was. Please look at the picture and see what I mean. I bet my "never cook anything" sister could do better than this too. I am speechless. This is cafe in a famous Pike Place market!!! How can you serve this kind of food to people! Though I heard the lady at the table in front of me saying the clam chowder was really good. Well, good for her. Cause I also wanted the clam chowder there but it's in those buffet kind soup container and no lids on any of those containers. And they didn't stir it cause there's a layer of harden soup on top...I didn't want to taste that as you can imagine. Overall, for my experience with the service and the food.. total 0. I don't want to give it a 1 star only because the waiter wasn't rude, just a bit not mindful. And he did smile and pretty polite. (except the cashier one he really was annoyed like probably don't want to work there) Also I really wish they improve! It's a great location connecting the 6th and 5th floor! This is my first time here so I will give it a 2. But if I tried something there that is terrible again, it will be a 1 star for sure. If you are visiting Seattle for a short time and you only have so many places to try, DON'T come here! There are TON of great places for food in pike place I promise you! I think 2 to 2.5 stars is fair (and maybe a little lenient)for the food, but if you take into consideration the view, I can let it go up to 3 stars. Otherwise, I would've done 2 to 2.5 stars. I came in while wandering the pike market place and realized I haven't eaten any breakfast yet. I saw the view you can see (if you sit by the windows) and decided to try the place out. You walk in and you order from the cashier, then sit down, and wait for the food to come. Coffee and water are self-served. I ordered a basic cheese omelette with mushrooms added for $1. Costing about $11 ish for the omelette. The food did take a bit of time to come out and I will agree with other reviewers that calling your name to give you the food isn't a good system for them. I think having a number on a stand would help them a lot. If the place is packed or if you have a very talkative bunch, it can be very easy to not hear your name called for your food. The food arrived with some home potatoes, two slices of cheese, a wedge of orange, and a nice looking omelette. The omelette is a bit on the oily side and tastes pretty bland. The home potatoes were a bit under seasoned and a few pieces could have been cooked a bit more. Lastly, the bread doesn't look like they were toasted, but they were very dry and stale like old bread. To be honest, I don't think it's worth what I paid for... with an addition of $1, the mushrooms were added, but it doesn't fill the omelette. The mushrooms look like they fill the whole omelette (imaged), but upon eating, the most inner fold of the omelette doesn't have any mushrooms. Don't know about you, but I laughed a little when I found out. Overall, I did enjoy seeing the waterfront from where I sat. I agree completely that this cafe is mostly surviving, because of its vegetarian options, it's location, and the view. Otherwise, I don't think many people would consider trying this place out. Having tried it, I don't think I'll come back to try it and would have something else instead nearby. read more

Food was delicious and decently priced. Very nice views and cute little seating area convenient to Pikes Market and the Aquarium/pier area. Gave it four stars because the kitchen lost our ticket... we sat for 45 minutes as we watched people who were in line behind us eat and leave. Finally asked what the status was on our food and that's when they realized the error. We were a party of 7 so that might have been the issue, but i was a little annoying. Once they realized the mistake they were quick to bring us our food and gave us a discount for the inconvenience. They also don't allow table saving so it was by pure luck that our party of 7 was able to sit all together rather than having to split up. This place was pretty nice - we were tourists from points south in WA, with other tourists here from the midwest, and hit the Pikes Place Market for the first time with no idea where to get lunch but hoping we would find something. We did, via the neon sign for this restaurant and my hopes were not too high. I was pleasantly surprised, the food was quite good. In particular, we split their seafood platter - it was fantastic, actually. Perfectly cooked salmon, a couple of fat, seared and tender shrimps, and a good crab-cake. With rice, which we didn't eat, and a nice pile of freshly steamed broccoli and summer squash. We tried the clam chowder and it was fine, a little on the flour-thickened and fewer clams side, but it tasted good. The view was pretty good too, over a low roof but we could certainly see the Sound. I noticed that most people there were eating breakfast, which isn't on the menu board? And it was lunch time, so maybe their benedicts are great. read more

We have never experienced such poor service or food quality at the Market as we did yesterday. We ordered three chowder bread bowls, a caesar salad and a burger. WE Paid for all of this! We had finished our soup and 30 minutes later we were still waiting for the burger and the salad. Unfortunately we didn't remember until we got to the car that we had ordered a salad. The burger finally came after 30 minutes and two reminders that we were still waiting. The burger was terrible! It was like a dried up hockey puck! We will never go here again even though the view was phenomenal and we will not recommend it. To add to this, it was NOT busy and honestly there was NO excuse for such slow service! I told our cousins they should complain and ask for a refund but they are on vacation and said they would just never go here again. TERRIBLE with a capital T. We ordered two plain bagels with cream cheese and a breakfast bagel. After waiting over 25min, we waited back in line to get two oj's. It took over 45min to get our food. By the time we sat down to eat, there were no plastic knives in our to go boxes and the KRAFT cream cheese was on the side of the bagels. The texture and temp of the bagels told us that they had been toasted a while ago and just sat there waiting to be brought out to us. I'm completely fine with waiting for good quality food. I don't even mind paying top dollar for baked goods, but if I'm going to wait almost an hour, with two hungry kids, for three bagels, then they had better be fresh and the cream cheese made in-house. We came for a quick meal while we were taking a break from shopping at the Market. While the boys went to a nearby pub my husband, daughter and I wanted more then a bar food. Seems like the girl behind the counter was her 1st day or just didn't want to be there, she made many mistakes while taking our order and I think it the was manager or owner who stepped in to fix things. As we sat and waited for our food the girl behind counter started to pick items off the salad bar and eating them behind the counter, so kinda glad non of us got the salad bar. By the time our sandwiches had come and 2 of them were wrong, and after 20 minutes they came back for what my husband and daughter had ordered, We had just asked for them to be put in to go containers since we now going to be late meeting up with our boys. The same woman who had tried to fix the counter girls mistakes kept apologizing and offered us free desserts we said no thank you but thanked her for the offer. Granted we arrived to this restaurant while lunch times almost over and right before dinner, so we had to order up at the counter, there was maybe 3 or 4 other tables waiting for food also. I loved the view of the Sound but, the prices for the food and lack of common courtesy to guest was just plain horrible. Sadly this restaurant I am sure does a lot business from locals and tons tourists but with lack respect they give people I can't figure out how they stay in business. Great view... revolting food! I was in town for a girls weekend, decided to go here for brunch as it was close to the W where we stayed. The 5 of us ordered breakfast and no one could finish their meal, food was not edible! Where to start? I'm just cutting to it, the eggs Benedict was completely over cooked, eggs were solid and rubbery, spinach had that funky rotten smell, the Sauce was broken and cheesy..hmm not real! The side of Bacon which I paid $4 for was two skinny strips, so over cooked they were burnt and not even edible. There was an old lady floating around cleaning tables, she would go into the kitchen and sneak food directly from the plates, just gross! After failed lunch plans, a friend and I decided to have lunch here. I had seen it a number of times but had never been in. We ventured in, looked at the menu, and salad bar, and decided to give it a go. We decided to share mushrooms and scallops. I saw an albacore tuna sandwich on the board and asked where the tuna was from. The server said, "From a can." Mind you, the board didn't say "tuna salad." I had to call an audible and decided to get the crab cake burger. At the time, I didn't realize my friend got the same thing. The scallops were small and had no sear on them (or seasoning). The mushrooms were watery and had clearly been cooked improperly. The crab cake burger reminded me why I don't like ordering crab cakes. It was EXTREMELY hard to find ANY crab in the crab cake. It was almost exclusively made of filler. It ran contrary to my "all lump, all the time" rule. Disappointing. The dish came with fries. My first bite of one told me that it had been fried in burnt oil. Because I was hungry and pressed for time to get back to work, I ate them. I decided that drowning them in ketchup was the way to go. The ketchup was in a bottle that had been reused multiple times. This was the worst ketchup I've ever had. Buried under my mound of fries were some burnt fries. AHA!!! The salad bar looked good and at $5.99 a plate, it's much cheaper than salad bars near my office. The view was good. I think perhaps a few cocktails would improve my perception of the food I ate. You're located at Pike Place, with a (sort of) ocean view. You have fresh fish delivered to you everyday. If it's not delivered, you can just throw a line into the ocean and something will bite. Why then, why oh why is your food so mediocre? I got a fish sandwich, and it was no good. My friend's foods were no good. I think you should move to a different, less Pikey, location. read more

Our dinner plans had taken a wrong turn the night before, so we woke up early and hungry. We walked around the fish market early Sunday morning and stumbled on the Sound View Cafe. As the name implies, the little cafe has a wall of windows overlooking the ships and ferries plying the sound. They have a full Breakfast, lunch and dinner menu, not to mention a fresh salad bar. We both ordered the salmon hash with a couple of eggs - mine were poached . We sat and watched the sky turn blue, sipped hot coffee and devoured the plates of hash. Sometimes when I'm in a place, and I feel like everyone in the world would trade places with me because I just happen to be doing the very thing they wished they could be doing at that moment. The Northwest Clam Chowder came in a big bowl, had large pieces of potato, lots of clams, was super (souper?) creamy, and generally yummy. i wanted to take a bucket of it home, but I live about 2000 miles away and I don't think it would keep well in a bucket. Another reviewer said there were no claims in the claim chowder, but we found plenty and it was good! I don't know why another reviewer said the service was bad: you make your salad, and place your order at the counter, they bring your drinks and cook to order food to you. No real atmosphere, but a quieter place to sit and enjoy a meal with view at a good price in Pike Market. I recommend it! I stopped by Pike Place Market to grab a few things before heading back to Portland. As we were also in need of breakfast before our drive we decided to try the Sound View Café. This place is more than alright and I'd patronize this place again if I find myself hungry and in the area. The view is great and everybody in my party enjoyed their breakfast. They offer every traditional breakfast options as well as clam chowder and a salad bar. In need of a little hair of the dog? They also have bloody marys and mimosas. The prices are a pretty reasonable if you consider that you are in the middle of a huge tourist destination and have a beautiful view of the Puget Sound. I ordered the huevos rancheros because I was delighted to find that it was vegetarian friendly; so tasty! Everybody else in my group enjoyed their meals as well. I was a little jealous of the breakfast quesadilla special my friend ordered from the specials menu. The absolute worst dining experience I've ever had, hands down. My family and I stopped by earlier today as a group of five, a little before the dinner rush. It was one of the first places we stumbled upon, so I thought it couldn't be THAT bad. FOOD: All of us ordered something from their seafood selection. The food arrived and the portions were very underwhelming for the prices ($17-$24). The fries arrived cold with one of our dishes. Another dish arrived a bit later than the others. The rice was good at first, but as I continued to eat, I noticed that many parts of it were gummy and mushy. The star of most of our dishes was the salmon. But again, the dishes, as a whole, fell short of our expectations. SERVICE: The service was incredibly slow. It took a really long time to get the food and our group arrived when the cafe was practically empty. After we were seated, we were offered a drink menu and water. Everything after that moment went downhill. As I mentioned before, we arrived before the rush. I noticed that many tables seated after ours were getting more service. One of our plates arrived some time later. Another plate had cold fries. We immediately notified our waiter of the cold fries and his initial response was "Oh...". He offered to get us fresh fries but it never arrived. During our entire meal, he never once checked back on us for water refills or to bring the fries to the table. We finished all of our food and drinks and he still hadn't brought any replacement fries or water. He finally checked in on us after our meal and had clearly forgotten about us. After he brought the fries and water refills, he forgot about our table again and never brought the check. We did flag him down and he handed us the check, and even overcharged us. Unfortunately, I had to flag a waitress down and ask her to remove the extra charges. Our waiter finally returned to our table with CASH to make up for the extra charges, which was very odd as he could have just recreated the check. He walked away with our check and we waited a little bit for him to come back. In the meantime, I noticed him being fairly attentive to other tables that had just arrived, yet never stopped by our table unless prompted. Once again, I flagged a waitress down to get our check back so we could finally pay and leave. Our waiter came back and tried to argue that he gave it to us and even claimed he would have to swipe our card again (which was never swiped in the first place). So in short, we had the displeasure of dealing with an overwhelmed and inattentive waiter. A bit of advice for your waiter Nate: If you can't handle your workload, ask someone else to cover you. Your service definitely didn't warrant a tip and I would never think to come back. If you're hungry and want to stop by a place to eat, don't come here. There are plenty of places to go to in Pike Place Market that are much more enjoyable, fairly priced, and won't waste your time. read more

For me, this place gave me everything I was asking for: a great view, a good drink, and good food. I've read the previous reviews and it seems that the proprietors listen: they now serve Heinz ketchup and their salad bar remains immaculate. If I hadn't been in the mood for French fries I probably would have annihilated that salad bar. The service was wonderful and their Northwest chowder, which I had asked for a sample, was so divine I found myself wishing I had ordered that instead of my burger. Which, btw, was SOOO good the table next to mine were very impressed. The French fries made me so happy because they were delicious and not greasy at all. The wait staff were so friendly and inviting...when there are so many alternates around it pays to have friendly staff...the view was beautiful, and it had a laid back "small cafe" vibe. I ordered the BBQ salmon sandwich, which was suggested by the lovely gal at the register, and it was scrumptious! The salmon was cooked to perfection and the seasoning was delicious...definitely not BBQ sauce but had a great little tang. Every time I am in Seattle, I always stop here for lunch. First of all, it has amazing views of Puget Sound. I enjoy eating lunch here. The classic burger is perfect. The meaty patty is juicy with the slices of tomatoes, lettuce and red onions. The wedge fries are equally delicious. I've tried other items on the menu such as the clam chowder in a bread bowl. The bread is huge and fun to eat. The chowder is delicious and filling, especially on rainy days. Total comfort food. The slice of cake with fresh blueberries was excellent. The frosting was not too sweet at all. The ambience is clean and typical of a cafe except for the amazing views. The service is friendly and accommodating. We want to thank Aundrea for her hospitality and letting us know Madonna was in town! We quickly bought tickets and will be seeing her tonight. Thank you Aundrea! The staff is super nice. Unlike some restaurants, they call you by your name when your food is ready... and they actually take your food to your table. Just make sure you give them the right name. We ordered the seafood platter and it tasted great! Not quite a fan of their clam chowder though. It tastes mostly of herbs and spices. But their shrimp cocktail is delicious and huge! My friend and I shared the seafood platter and we cleaned out our plate pretty quick! The place is overlooking the sea and has a great view of the Seattle Great Wheel! read more

We've eaten here a few times before, but it's been a couple of years since we had a weekend in Seattle, so decided to re-visit. The salad bar is fresh and bright, but I didn't want on a salad on this cold day, so I opted for the crab cakes. Hubby got one of their burgers. Sadly, the crab cakes were a HUGE disappointment. I couldn't taste, or barely see, the crab at all. Hubby's burger was a lot more successful. Potato wedge side is the same thing you get from any grocery store deli. The bank a lot on the view and the location, and there's nothing wrong with that. Service was so-so. We probably won't visit again for a while. read more

I travel to Seattle every year for a trade show. This is a staple of my trip. The lunch salad/soup is the best value and view in the city PERIOD. We've come for dinner as well and had great seafood. Just a rare gem of a place. With this view it could easily charge twice what they do (please don't !!!) but they keep it reasonable and have great friendly service. I hope to keep coming back here for years to come. read more
