Place is under staffed esp during rush hour breakfast. Orders take forever and they do not get it right. The cashier even said that she cannot make a hot choco now bec she is by herself. Great view from the Sound View Cafe. We had breakfast here while visiting Pikes Market. Order of French Toast was good...not phenomenal but it was good! We also had scrambled eggs with pepper jack and turkey sausage link. Would recommend trying to get something other than the turkey sausage link. You pretty muck serve yourself...you order at the counter, pay and then they bring your food out to your table. Again, help yourself to coffee as there is not table service. At $38.00 for two orders, I guess not bad for a tourist area. Food was average, but the view and scenery made up for the average food. Friendly staff. read more

I might agree that the food isn't the best I've ever had. It's diner-level quality. But the location and views really do make up for it. I found this place to be a fantastic respite from the noise and hassle of downtown life (not that Seattle has got a bad case of "the bustles"). Sitting at the windows, being able to look out at the Sound and at the mountains while eating a mediocre breafast? Not bad - not bad at all. Just don't come here expecting excellent food. Ordered the Marketplace Omelette. For $15, I expected more seafood which in the omelette were two shrimp and a 2oz piece of broken up salmon, mayo, capers, and cheese. Everything in Seattle seems to come with fried potatoes for whatever reason. My potatoes were extremely dry like they had cooked them in the morning or something. Overall the omelette tasted ok, however I don't like walking out of place and feel like I overpaid for what I got which I did. I think as a tourist visiting the Pike Place Marketplace, one is better off buying a little bit of food off of each vendor which is what I'll do on my next visit. read more

The view was nice, but with all the delicious food options in Pike's Market, I would suggest trying somewhere else. I ordered an omelet, and when it was brought to my table, I asked for a second plate so that I could share. The server brought over the extra plate and it was dirty, with multiple noticeable food particles on the plate. I was recommended here by the nice lady working at the Information Booth for Pike Place because my friends and I arrived right when everything was closing (5:30). We were looking for Pike Place Chowder, but since that was closed she recommended Sound View as an alternative for chowder. I'm glad it was open because we were starving! It has a nice view of the waterfront, and when we arrived we got full table service (maybe you have to go up and order yourself at a different time of day). I got a simple clam chowder in a the sourdough bread bowl (~$8), and it was incredibly filling. I really liked the potatoes. The bread was a little boring and cold, but I don't expect it to be steaming hot anyways since you're mainly supposed to eat that with the soup. Not the best chowder I've had, and not as tasty as Pike Place, but decent. My friends ordered the seafood plates, which looked kind of pathetic. The ones that come with different types of seafood (crab cake, salmon, and shrimp) are very simple, but somehow took forever to prepare. We waited 30+ mins for this to come out. Visiting Pike Place Market trying my absolute best to avoid a 30+ min wait to get food. Came across this little cafe with open seating, no lines, and a decent view. Overall, I had a great experience. The cashier let us sample both the Clam Chowder and Seafood/Veggie soup then made a spot on beer recommendation (local Pilsner). Food came out in no time and it was good chowder. Nice pieces of clam throughout, seasoned well, and good seafood flavor without being fishy. Only reason I went with 4 stars is because of the bread bowl. The sourdough was a little more "sour" than I prefer, and it'd be cooler if they got more creative with the "cut-out" portion of the bread. I got the duo crab cakes and salmon bisque. The bisque was gelatinous, kind of like canned soup, but the salmon itself was good. The crab cakes were bland. The saving grace of the dish was the sauce which kind of tasted like thousand island dressing. My partner had the cheese steak sandwich. the meat was like chewing rubber and baked fries tasted like what I would expect from over-microwaved fries from leftovers. Complimentary water glasses had food debris on them and tables were sticky. Most people can cook better than this at home, and the view that is one of this places only saving graces can be seen in the sitting area outside of the cafe, better to just bring food from somewhere else and enjoy it there. The first place we ate at during our visit at Pike Place Market on August 6 and never expected such bad service. The cashier was very rude. After handing my $20 bill, I told the cashier I had "0.17 cents," but I could tell she was rushing so I only took out 25 cents and I muttered "sorry." Because I know how it feels as I've worked in food service. Anyway, she then uttered "it too early for me to do math," with an irritated face! she then handed me $1 and $1 in quarters. And it took a while to get our food. And when we did, the pancakes were burnt and the eggs were dry. We did not enjoy it at all! Would not go back. View was great though! Now for the food, local beer is good except InBev just bought them...blah...but it's called mensroom...the chowder is excellent. The salad bar the freshest I have seen and all the goodies. What a nice spot! The views are very nice, and staff is polite and easygoing. They have a great salad bar! We had breakfast, instead. Everything was delicious! The bread was very fresh and tasted great! We had all the free iced water we wanted (we were very thirsty from walking A LOT)! Walked into this cafe hungry and excited for a meal with a view. The staff was quite busy but those we talked to at first were very nice. However, we waited an entire 40 minutes for our food and watched the 4 parties after us in line get their food before us. When we inquired about what was taking so long, we weren't given an explanation and instead were given incorrect wait times. "5 more minutes," after 5 minutes we checked back and were once again told, "5 more minutes." I'm not sure what the problem was, but as a guest I felt very frustrated. This spot was okay. Not horrible, not great. It was a little difficult to find and we did show up right as they were opening so they seemed a little discombobulated. The food was mediocre breakfast food. Nothing special but nothing was bad. I do think it was a little overpriced for what it was but I get that given it's in a tourist hot spot. This is a pleasant place to sit with good food and enjoy the wonderful view. The food is basic and tasty. Price is a little high for what you get, though fairly inexpensive for the market, but it's worth the easy going feel. You order and pay up front and they bring the food to your table. Be listening for your name cause that's how they find you. A number system could be better but go in not expecting to much and you will love it! We have only met very nice staff and its been clean every time! The coffee is great and we have enjoyed all the food we tried. The breakfast quesadilla so far is my favorite for breakfast. My wife and I stumbled upon this little hidden gem when we decided to hang out at Pike Place. The customer service is great, the view is great, and the food is out of this world. I'm sort of a burger critic and their Blazer Burger is delicious. It took a while to get our food which is understandable since they make everything fresh and don't just microwave it like 97% of every restaurant anywhere in this country. It was definitely worth the wait, the burger hit the right spot. Oh and their fries are oven baked which is a nice change versus other places that deep fry everything. I walk in and since there is no sign I awkwardly sit, then snag a menu when no one helps me, then stare at the waitress for 3 minutes, then order standing up, then have to sit back down. Put up some signage please that says seat yourself. No communication equals confusion. So I order the Trout Platter and the trout is marketed as sauced. I look left and see the gorgeous Puget Sound, what a great view. The trout comes and is cooked well, so well in fact I estimate one and a half minutes too long. A little dry people! The bread and butter were fair additions I suppose, so a plus there. The vegetables are where things went south. They tasted dry, were not in any type of sauce hat I could tell, had no pepper or other seasoning. . . I thought this dish had an appropriate amount of Trout Platter sauce! The vegetables also had what could be termed as a queasy taste. I felt odd and uneasy for about an hour after eating the dish. In summary, the trout itself was well prepared enough but the vegetable preparation lost the dish. How saddening. Presentation was nothing special but for the dish extravagance was not as expected as a higher end restaurant. Good pricing though. I would stop by for a snack, but don't take a lover, she wouldn't be impressed. read more
