I love Ruben sandwiches! I know there is always a risk with Uber Eats. Staff tends to get lazy when their guest is not in front of them, but this was terrible. We had lunch here today. The menu is huge, something for everyone. I liked that they had traditional sandwiches, unique ones, as well as healthy options . They also have a great selection of soups and salads. We liked our sandwiches, and also our soup choices. One thing to know before you go here is that the menu is posted above behind the counter and there aren't any available to sit down and look at. So, if you're one of those kind of people that take a while to figure out what you want, I recommend you go on-line first and browse the menu at your leisure. Had a meeting in the same center so popped in for lunch. Very friendly staff. Offered for us to sample any of their soups if we wished prior to ordering. Large menu, many things from which to choose. We opted for the pastrami grilled cheese, a bowl of clam chowder, and a turkey grilled cheese. Surprised to see both sandwiches had the "cheese skirts" that were fun to peel off and chow on prior to the actual sandwich. Both sandwiches were excellent - the pastrami and turkey in each was generous and tasty. I would say that the clam chowder was good, but not extraordinary. My husband said he was in the mood for some soup so I typed "Soup" in the Yelp search and up comes Soup Kettle Grille in Meridian. It was a easy restaurant to find right off Overland. They also had a drive thru as well but we were in the mood to go inside and explore. The restaurant is small but adequate because it really doesn't take long to eat anyways. The girl behind the counter wore a mask and was very friendly. We both opted for the 1/2 grilled Gouda cheese sandwich with a bowl of tomato basil soup. With no drinks the total was $19.04. Very reasonable indeed. We sat down at a table and the girl brought a tray over with our food. The portions were great and when we mentioned it was our first time at the restaurant, she also brought us back a sample of two of there other soups to try. Very nice of her. The soups were very tasty and the sandwich was delicious as well. The cheese was melted out of the sides of the bread and was a little crispy from grilling which gave it a even better flavor. We're definitely adding this to our list of places. Especially when you can use the drive thru and purchase 32oz packaged soups to go as well. This was once of our biggest surprises on our trip to Boise. First of all the staff is very friendly and the food is so fresh! It can be hard to eat clean on a trip but this place makes it easy with their delicious choices and they even have information posted on the wall about where they get their meat. I could see the place filling with people up quickly around noon time this past Sunday. My friend and I split a grilled turkey & cheese sandwich and we each had a bowl of soup. The split the sandwich on two plates for us, and my friend had one of their smoothie drinks she said was very good. I had the Thai chicken soup and she had the potato leek soup. I would say that we were both pleased with our order. The food was delivered to our table pretty quick. If you look at the pictures, you can see the grilled sandwiches have melted cheese from the pan as part of what makes their sandwiches unique. I bought two of their in-house made soups and was pleased that it wasn't full of salt. The owner indicated there is no MSG. Yay! So this evening, guess what I'm doing? Soup Kettle Grille delivers tasty food and "soup-erior" service in a fast-casual-order-at-the counter format. The restaurant is not a franchise or chain, as the name might suggest, but a locally owned 'mom and pop shop' where you feel warm welcome the minute you walk in the door. Serving scratch-made soup and grilled sandwiches (which may be the star here) for eating in or taking out along with frozen soup by the quart, this has potential to be a gem but for woefully uncomfortable "sardine can" table set up. THE DRILL: Walk in and straight ahead to the counter where the friendliest person will answer your questions, take your order and offer you a sample of soup(s) of your choice if you're undecided on which o choose from the roughly half a dozen they have listed on their menu board. (Note: Buffalo Chicken is their best seller.) They make more than 30 kinds of soup, half a dozen or so available hot for in-house or take-out in options that change weekly with many other varieties frozen by the quart in a case near the counter. Place your order for eat in, take a seat, if you can get to it at the tables in the sparkling clean but sardine-can-tight dining area and they will deliver to your table. Soup is served in heavy duty plastic cups or bowls with plastic spoons and a slice of bread in a paper sleeve. They'll clear the table for you when time permits, or you can easily bus your own to a 'service counter' at the window wall near the front of the eating area. If your order is to go, they'll call your name when ready. THE EATS: The grilled sandwiches smelled great and looked really tasty as we saw other people enjoying them, but 2/3 way through a two week diet, we opted for 3 cups of soup to share 2 ways. For the record they were Roasted Tomato, Potato Leek and Buffalo Chicken and we would order them again although I did wish there was sea salt on the table to add to the former. Cost: $4ish each ordered like this, about $3ish if you add a cup with a sandwich. Soups that are Vegetarian or Gluten Free are marked, soups with dairy are marked, and there are also options that are noted as Vegan. This is easy dining for Ominvores to Vegans and people with food allergies too. We picked up a couple of quarts of frozen soup in other flavors on the way out. Caribbean Black Bean (vegan) was surprisingly bland when we had it at home. Spicy Sweet Potato Chipotle (vegetarian) had a hefty smokey chili kick. LIBATIONS: Do not miss the Carrot Lemonade (@$2.80 for @16 oz)! It is just barely sweet and uses fresh squeezed lemon juice with carrot juice. A treat. THE VIBE: Ahhh...roma as you enter from cheese grilling in sandwiches almost seems to tug and hug you through the door. Warm greeting from the people at the counter add to the sense of welcome. As downside, I realize they need tables with chairs to put diners' fannies in, but the sardine-can sense of so many in a small space is the thing I'd wave my scepter to change were I 'The Queen' and have them remove a four top and rearrange for more "breathin' room". It is the way too tight seats that will keep me from going back to eat in. They've jammed seats for about 42 inside what would better hold 36 and be tight at that. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: Private lot for the little strip mall has a good amount. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: ADA compliant parking in the lot. Level in the door. All on one floor. Accessible loo (says my spouse, I didn't check.) Tight table seating and aisles would make wheelchair access impossible. I talked to the owner. She realizes this is a problem and says staff would move furniture as necessary for a disabled customer to get to a table. But the 28 year old civil rights law that is ADA says equal access to tables for disabled diners must exist as standard, not as workaround moving of furniture. If US Rep Tammy Duckworth, who uses a wheelchair after losing her legs in wartime service as a Blackhawk pilot, were to come in here, she shouldn't have to be embarrassed and need to wait for 'musical tables'. She should be able to take a seat like everyone else. 3) GOOD NEIGHBOR: Sofra Bosnian is right next door. It was empty as we walked by both to and from Soup Kettle Grille, which was doing a brisk business including folks waiting in line. read more
