I was headed back to Vegas the other day so we stopped at Southern twist before lunch. They had a full menu available so we both got the fried catfish. I had mine with the greens and the corn on the cob. She had her catfish with the cornbread and corn on the Cobb. I took mine to Vegas home and heated it up and I enjoyed it. I forgot to mention I have the Black Eyed Peas as well. They were good too. Everything was delicious. I passed on the tartar sauce, but the hot sauce was a little tasty and spicy as well I'd recommend them if you rolling through from Vegas to the Bay or Vegas to LA. The staff there is friendly shine has hooked me up several times there and he'll make your plate just the way you want it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have a clean restroom and ample seating if you wanna dine in[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] if you know what you want, you have to go ahead and order it because they do sell out of many of the items I've gone there in the past and see the oxtails and the ribs sold out. They have desserts as well if that's what you're into if you have a taste for comfort food, southern twist as your spot on the way through the desert and located in Barstow right off E. Main St. That is right across from the Tesla charging station!

On our way to Las Vegas, Nevada, my husband and I stopped at Southern Twist! Oh my!! So good! So delicious! You have to try this hidden gemstone! The staff is very nice! We had the oxtails and rice, turkey and dirty rice, greens and yams!!!! If you're looking for the perfect place to try and sample and purchase Southern Style cooking, this is the place!! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very clean and you'll love the staff![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Film location: This resturant is perfect for filming. I'll be honest, I stopped by here on a Friday during their slow period (2pm) and almost walked out until I ran into the owner and her staff outside cooking on the smoker. [[HIGHLIGHT]]She was so friendly and accommodating to us and our furry travel companion and the food was delicious![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food is on warming plates which obviously was not showcasing everything during the slow period but they said everything is coming out fresh from the kitchen. We got the dino rib and pork ribs that came straight out of that smoker we saw in the back. So good! I think the star of the show were the sides - every side had an extra sprinkle of spice to make it interesting. The yams were my standout favorite, followed by the collard greens. I love the extra seasoning on the Mac too. I also wanted to mention that the ladies restroom had a donation-based hygiene supply, and if I wasn't already giving 5 stars this would put it at the top. I've never really seen a local business help provide access to feminine hygiene for people in need, which is a reflection of how awesome this establishment is. Thank you for doing what you can for the community, and I hope this place gets all the business they deserve

The decor and atmosphere were great. The lady who served me was exceptionally nice. She even agreed with my grandpa humor. The ribs, pork, were good. Not great, but good. They were very tender and cooked throughout, however they did not have a lot of flavor. You know, the kind of flavor you expect in Southern cooking. The Mac & Cheese was very good. Traditional south. The Butter Beans stole the show. I have never, in my 58 years of life, had Butter Beans like them. I am going to try to get the recipe. Overall, I highly recommend this place.

RUN friends don't walk! Review is from today 03/08 around 11:30-11:45a Upon entering we were immediately and warmly welcomed by Sean!!! We observed Sean working super efficiently and handled everything on his own from greeting customers, making plates, ringing food up ( yep and he wore gloves), getting drinks and bringing it to the tables!!! Amazingggg friends if you walk in and see a line don't be discouraged he is doing the best job be patient trust it is worth the wait!!! In my opinion he needs a raise!!! Food quality and freshness didn't disappoint!!! As much as I want to get keep the Turkey wings...lol I can't I have to share with my fellow yelpers!!! Perfect seasoning, super juicy sauce, (beware a little spice kick but nothing to hot...my tolerance for spice is low but I tore this plate up) large piece of wing, it was chef kiss and the plate comes with rice so you could get two other sides!!! Yams was fire and collard greens also fire!!! Trust it will let you down!!! The brisket plate was also fire!!! Mac and cheese fire perfect seasoning cheese and has a nice little kick!!! Honestly this was my hubby and I 2nd visit here and it still was as good as we remember the 1st visit!!! We are definitely loyal customers and the way I would be visiting LV more often this is going to be our Spot especially because the Tesla charging station is literally across from them it is the best!!! Prior to arriving in Barstow w checked Yelp to find a place for dinner. The photos of the beef ribs sold us on Southern Twist. The food is in warming trays and a staff member serves you. We both chose the beef rib (lol). They came with two sides. We both chose the squash. Hubby had the mac and cheese and I had the yams. The price was $27. You got 1 rib. They had a good amount of meat but also had a fair amount of gristle. The squash was delicious. It was sautéed in butter and just the right amount of crisp. I like the yams. They were cooked in brown sugar and cinnamon. Hubby thought they were too sweet. The staff was friendly. The restruant was clean. The music was a little loud.

Stumbled upon this place by accident and were so pleasantly surprised. The meats are incredibly soft and just fall apart clean. Every single side dish was amazing--especially the greens, which had the perfect subtle hint of spice. Definitely trying the oxtail next time. Highly recommend!

Interesting concept they have going here, a kind of Chinese food- style- buffet- Chipotle -- where you stand on one side of the glass pointing to the food that you want the server to dish up for you , its a southern comfort soul food bar !! Food was mediocre at best. It's not a buffet so I'm not sure why they have the food presented that way, but it's obvious it's been sitting out a while. I had my meal and it was cold. The only thing I liked was the rice. The servers were arguing amongst themselves and the place was empty. Over fifty dollars for two one item combo meals with basic, not southern, sweet tea. Both meals were lack luster and definitely not worth the price. Will not be going back. read more

The food and the service here are so good! I had the that I had the cube steak and my wife had the pork ribs, and we both had macaroni and cheese. They were out of dirty rice, which we lamented. But while we were eating, and enjoying every bite, the owner brought out a fresh dish of dirty rice he had just prepared for each of us! I highly recommend this place, what a great find! read more

If you find yourself in Barstow and you are looking for a unique dining experience then you have to try the Southern Twist. I am a creature of habit so I am hooked on the Ox tails, they are so good. I understand being a skeptic, but the pictures are straight food porn because the food y look. I especially appreciate their southern hospitality. If all the owners were as warm and friendly as these owners, going out to eat would be way more enjoyable. Give it a chance. Your taste buds will thank you. read more

This place is a hidden gem of authentic Southern home cooking served cafeteria style. Smoked beef ribs and ox tails are a house specialty - delicious, juicy, full of flavor. The smoker was going out back when we pulled in the parking lot - always a good sign. Come with a big appetite to enjoy the generous portions of all their main dishes and sides. Immaculately clean restaurant with a gracious owner and staff. Well worth the excursion off I-15, Route 66, or wherever you are traveling from. read more

The food is out of this world!!! The Beef Ribs have a great southern flavor without being too spicy! And the Chicken smothered in country Gravy was finger licking good!!! The Collard Greens, Buttered Corn, Lima Beans and yams were very delicious!!!! The staff, (especially Izzy) were very friendly and generous with the portions! What a find! Just passing through and immediately focused on the cool name and the prospect of authentic southern cooking. Was not disappointed, Antonio and Dee were hospitable, professional and generous! The food was excellent, the max and cheese and the dirty rice very very good! The pork ribs were delicious, moist and flavorful. I'm not fond of overly sweet bbq and foound the sauce just right! We randomly walked in bc we didn't want to feed ourselves crappy fastfood but found a hidden gem! And the owner family is so sweet and generous, he was literally feeding us, bringing more and more food non stop. True soul food from Atlanta Georgia and my husband says best bbq chicken hands down :) I'm not much of a meat person but even the veggies were SO good. Definitely worth the visit when you're driving from LV. read more

Located less than a minute walk from the Tesla supercharging station in downtown Barstow Southern twist has a nice steam table with lots of variety good food, friendly people by the time you finish your meal your car is charged up and ready to go. Had the meat loaf white rice, the meatloaf was partly cold, and the rice was not cooked all the way. I had the beef ribs before they were good but not enough meat on them bones, the chicken is real good, but took to long to cook. I'm going to still hang in there. read more

At 1820 we received the following: Hi , your order from Southern Twist (E Main St) has been cancelled because the store is unable to fulfill the order. Your charges will be removed from your statement within 3 days. We apologize for the inconvenience. First, they canceled the order without explanation. Second, they waited thirty minutes to cancel the order. Lastly, they will not be able to remove the charges from our credit card for three days. Unacceptable. Just passing through, for our travels from OH to San Diego, and searched for food along the route. My southern heart felt inclined to check out this restaurant, especially with the many other positive reviews. I was not disappointed. The portion sizes were huge, the taste impeccable, and the customer service was divine. We were given ribs to try and complimentary peach cobbler for the road. My 11 year old said it was a 10 out of 10, and that says a lot, as he's pretty picky. Overall would definitely recommend this as a must for anyone craving some good for the soul food. Reminded me of my childhood in the South, right here in California. Unfortunately, my stomach ate before my camera could, so no pictures. read more

Arrived in Barstow with my group and was looking for a dinner spot. Found Southern Twist on YELP and gave it a try (I typically try and avoid the chain type restaurants so this was perfect). So glad we did! We were graciously greeted with charming southern hospitality and given several samples of delicious foods to try. Everything was so good and fresh it was hard to decide. I went with the BBQ pork ribs, mac and cheese, greens and yams. Others in the group tried Meat loaf, Beef ribs and chicken entrees. It was more delicious food than I could handle but I didn't quit...It was that good! They have a large dining area able to accommodate large parties so if you find yourself in Barstow or anywhere near there, it's worth the trip! read more

We stopped here on our way home from Vegas. Wow, I'm so glad we did! Not only is the food DELICIOUS, the owners are beyond friendly, professional, and just beautiful human beings. It's easy to find since it sits near the freeway exit and many billboards along the way as road signs. Its gravel paved parking lot is huge. All those cars there were somewhat reassuring. I took the first counter seat I saw while being surprised how small this place is. Only later I found it has 2 large dining areas and a pizza parlor further in. The waitress wore a pink outfit likes those I saw in movies. Some of them seem to have been there for years. Courtney is probably the youngest among them and very friendly. She took my order and gave a glass of water without ice as I requested. Most dishes is named after celebrities of old. My neighbor ordered an omelette which is huge, enough for 2 yet reasonably priced. Peggy Sue also has a dinosaur yard outdoors. Water in the pond and waterfall is green, not sure if it's algae or coloring. Either way, I have no intention get near them. I don't think I'd bring my family here but I might stop in next time on my solo trip to Vegas to try its omelette.

The entire breakfast with coffee was about $40, which I felt was very reasonable by today's standards. We both mentioned how we recently went to famous SoCal fast food hamburger joint (not In-and-Out) and it was $30 for 2 people, and not as good. Our service was super friendly, and we felt welcome there. Along with good food, this might be our regular breakfast stop when driving to Vegas.

Trump is a racist and gives no care for minorities. The establishment presents with identity issues. Macaroni and cheese also very much like homemade with a slightly darkened top crust. Yum! You can order fried chicken, or fried catfish and its generally ready in 10 to 15 minutes, made fresh.
