Super popular place to grab a salad, and I understand why. I got the chicken salad and it was delicious. Generous portion of chicken and there were many flavors in the salad. Opted for outdoor seating which was the move since it was a beautiful day in the city and was the perfect temperature. When walking past it a little while later there was a line out the door! Completely recommend, especially if people in your party are vegetation. :) read more

I UNDERSTAND THE HYPE!! At first glance, Souvla doesn't look like much so I was confused where all the hype comes from but it is soo good. I got the wrap with pork. The pork was tender and flavorful and the wrap was so balanced. It was simple but had layers of flavor. The Greek yogurt with honey and baklava crumbles is a game changer! The yogurt was refreshing and tangy, which balanced out the sweet honey and the baklava crumbles added another texture. I've been dreaming about this since I've had it. 1000/10. read more

Order your salad greek style (fries on top). You won't hear this in the history books but the salad + fries combination actually ended 7 wars and brought us into the Industrial Revolution because of how delicious it is. I visited on a Saturday for lunch with a group of 6 and was lucky enough to get seating for all of us. It's self-seating. Every time I've visited here I've had to hover around to wait for table seats to open up. If you come by yourself or with one other then it's usually easy, anything more it's tougher. read more

We came here for lunch recently, and the place is quite busy. We didn't have to wait for a table, but right after us, a line of about 10 parties built up. Just a heads up! I got the chicken salad and honestly it was average. The dressing was a little too tart, with not enough creaminess in the salad itself to balance. The chicken was a tad dry and not super flavorful. The pickled veggies were very very strong, which again didn't balance well with the overall salad. I also got pita on the side, and I would STRONGLY recommend to not. It came out soggy and wet, which was honestly kind of gross. My friend got the pork pita sandwich which was quite delicious! The flavors are much better balanced, and if I were to come back I would definitely get the sandwich. We also got a wildflower honey frozen yogurt, and this was the winner. Rich and creamy, but with a nice tartness to balance the yogurt out. The honey solidified almost instantly so I don't think it added much. Will definitely be back for just a cup of the plain yogurt! read more

I really really wanted to looove this place since it seems that everyone from my office does but it just didn't seem anything special to me. I got the chicken salad the first time and it was pretty difficult to finish, even as someone who usually loves salad. It honestly made my mouth hurt since the chicken was dry. I got the pork sandwich the second time and it was a pretty large portion and tasted pretty decent. The sandwich was packed with pork cubes and veggies. Maybe I just had higher expectations coming in but Souvla just did not hit the spot for my personally. read more

Quick service, food comes out very fast. The veggie salad is really good and very big and filling, although extremely salty from all the feta and olives. I am a salt fiend, though so I don't mind but others might. I wish they had some sort of fake meat like the new fake lamb - might be something to consider for the future. I enjoy coming here because it's simple and fast. Ambiance is nice inside, and great on a sunny day or warm night outside. Hayes Valley is a nice place to walk around and grab a bite. read more

I'm very surprised that I never wrote a review for Souvla since this is my go-to healthy spot ! I'm a picky salad eater and the chicken salad here always makes me feel rejuvenated. The tangerine in the chicken salad refreshes the savoryness of the cheese and onions. The best part about finishing your salad is ordering their frozen yogurt for dessert. I recommend the wild honeycomb froyo if you're a honey fan. The fries are also great to eat as a side or a topping to your salad. read more

For a quick fix of Greek food, Souvla is definitely the place to check out! The salad was savory, tangy, and the chicken itself had so much flavor. The fries were crisp on the outside but soft inside and perfectly fried to my liking. Seating was a little tight given it was busy and had limited seating but we were still able to sit down and eat. read more

The service is generally good. The visual presentation of the food is exceptional. On the surface, the salads look yummy and healthy, but if you dig under the surface you realize they use a lot of gross fat and poor quality cuts of meat. Unfortunately, I had mistakenly eaten several pieces of the fat before I realized what was actually in the salad. I hope they address this issue in the kitchen--beware! read more

Disappointed since I saw so many good reviews but my food did not match the hype. Seeing how good the rotisserie chicken was cooking in the back, I decided to get the chicken salad... but wow the chicken was so dry. The salad was also dry and lacked dressing. The kale was too bitter, they probably did not prep it enough. The orange in the salad was also bitter and not fresh. So disappointed because it looked so good when they served it to me. Kind of a waste of my $17. Leaving 3 stars in because the servers were nice and welcoming, and the interior design was nice. I probably won't come back since I can get a better salad somewhere else. read more

Now I don't usually eat healthy, but Souvla you are a masterpiece. The chicken wrap has so much flavors to excite your palate, from citrus to acidity everything was on point! I ordered a side of the fries with their garlic sauce and I loved the Mediterranean flavors from my meal. The one thing I was most excited for was the baklava dessert but was disappointed by the taste. The frozen yogurt is very very tart, and it does not pair too well with the baklava crumbs as it is super sweet. Some vanilla frozen yogurt would have been soooooo good with it. I stopped by Souvla, a stylish Greek-California fast casual restaurant. I had the lamb sandwich with Greek fries and yogurt sauce. The lamb sandwich was delicious, with tender meat and lots of fresh vegetables and flavorful sauces. My fries were fresh and delicious, and came topped with plenty of feta cheese. This is my go-to place for frozen yogurt in the city. I've only tried the baklava flavor, but it hits the spot every time. The yogurt is creamy and slightly tart, with a generous topping of baklava. Honestly I don't really get the hype over this spot. To be fair, I only tried one menu item. I got the chicken sandwich, which was really lacking texture and flavor. The chicken was shredded into a sort of mush, it was pretty dang dry and not super flavorful. The pita was good enough... the ingredients are obviously fresh and it's not bad food at all, just disappointing. The fries and greek yogurt seem really popular, those might be really good. read more

Souvla is a go to lunch place for me whenever I'm in a rush and need quick takeout for lunch. The chicken salad never disappoints me, coming from a person who isnt a huge fan of Mediterranean food nor salads. They areee pretty pricey for the portions it comes with though but with the restaurant being situated in hayes valley this wasnt surprising. Something that did surprise me was they charge 25 cents for utensils for togo orders. This seems a little unnecessary for an already marked up salad. read more

my favorite salad to get in all of san francisco chicken salad never misses! they give a good amount of chicken. i love the pickled onion and citrus! the ambiance is inviting. it's a casual spot and can get busy during peak times but the line moves fast. finding a table may be the only tricky thing depending on the location. only giving it a four star instead of five because it is a little pricey for a salad :/ read more

I ordered the chicken sandwich (more like a pita wrap) and it was delicious. Every bite was full of flavor and the clementine/orange bits were a nice touch! The Greek fries were also delicious and complemented the sandwich perfectly! I also tried the yogurt with sour cherry and it was decent. I don't think I'd order it again (I definitely want to try the baklava one) because the cherry syrup was a bit too sour for my liking. I know it says "sour" right in the name, but I absolutely love cherry flavor, so I had to at least try it. The yogurt itself was also a bit lacking in flavor, it basically tasted like "plain" frozen yogurt (as opposed to vanilla), though I suppose that might have been what it was. Overall, a great restaurant with great service. There are some public tables right in front of the restaurant which were available when I went, so you can eat it there or take it to-go. read more

I was in the area and a few friends had recommended this place so my friend and I decided to stop by for dinner! We were here on a Wednesday early evening and there was a line, but it moved quickly and we were able to find seating indoors (they have indoor and outdoor seating). Menu is pretty straightforward, and our food came out pretty quickly. I ordered a chicken salad, my friend ordered the vegetarian sandwich, and we got a Greek fries to share. I was a little hesitant about eating salad for dinner especially since it was cold outside, but the salad was delightful and filling. The dressing was really nicely balanced, the chicken was flavorful and not dry, and the salad overall was not cold - it was room temperature, which sounds not fun to eat but it worked out better than I thought it would. The only downside is that I live SO FAR from Souvla!! Otherwise I'd come here more often. Highly recommend!!! read more

Came by for a late lunch with my mom. There was a line but we were able to find seating. I ordered the pork sandwich and my mom the chicken salad. They are really great portions. We split the fries which weee very good. I wish the pork had had more seasoning, but the fresh ingredients in the wrap made up for it. My mom loved her salad. Came here for a quick dinner before attending the SF Ballet. They have tables inside and outside the restaurant. You do order first and then sit yourself. I ordered the chicken salad instead of the sandwich/wrap with a side of the fries with garlic ranch. The bowl was flavorful and a medium to large portion. I had to ask for a to-go box! Their fries were well seasoned and they gave you a perfect serving. The side dressing for the ranch was good too, it is an extra dollar tho if it is not ketchup. But definitely worth it and not the end of the world. Place is clean, bathroom is well kept but too close to the kitchen for my taste, the staff are friendly, and there is a good ambient to the place. Overall, the size of the menu is small but honestly I think that makes for a great restaurant because they are able to perfect the meals. Definitely coming here again. read more

I came here for dinner on a weekday around 6pm and it was pretty busy, but we managed to grab seats at the longer table in the center of the restaurant. We ordered a lamb salad for my fiancé, chicken on the side for me (it was really cool that they offered this since I don't really like salad or wraps), and a greek yogurt with baklava crumble. The chicken on the side was a much smaller portion than I was hoping, but I was surprised that it held so much flavor! I also wished the baklava crumble wasn't just sitting directly on top in a scoop because as I ate downwards, there wasn't any baklava towards the bottom half of the cup to complement the sourness of the greek yogurt. We were passing by and saw the little line out front of people order frozen yogurt . It was an extra warm day in sf . Covid-19 times , so take out only . The menu was conveniently posted at the front door, at which we also placed our order . They serve food as well as yogurt . So only one flavor yogurt with four different topping options . The olive oil and sea salt was so delicious!!! The baklava and honey was ok .. it was a huge piece of baklava with the honey already in it. It was fine but the baklava tasted more like a chewy oatmeal cookie then traditional baklava to me . I would definitely return for some more frozen yogurt here and perhaps some food as well. We started off with the Greek frozen yogurt for five dollars a cup. There's four choices (sour cherry, honey, baklava and olive oil with flaky salt). We tried the baklava and olive oil with flaky salt. Ask them to omit the salt, it was incredibly salty and tasted like I was licking a giant rock of salt. Otherwise, the olive oil went well with it and was quite pretty to look at. The baklava tasted like an oatmeal cookie and was the most substantial one so if you're hungry, this is the one for you. The pita on the wrap was too chewy and hard for me. Otherwise, there was tons of pork and veggies. We asked for the tomatoes and pickled onions to be put on the side and we got two full cups of veggies. The fries were excellent, very light and crispy and full of flavor but so rich and thick that after a couple of fries, I had to take the rest home. Come here for fries and frozen yogurt but I've had better wraps. Still, not a bad place for a cold day especially if you sit next to the chicken rotisserie machine which was really like sitting next to a cozy fire. read more

Souvla definitely has flavor, but it's honestly much too pricey for what you get. I went to Souvla for the first time with 5 friends wanting to try the "hype" that this place has. The atmosphere was lively, and the ambience was peaceful. It set me up for a good dinner. Regarding food, I ordered the Lamb Sandwich and got the food very quickly! The price was $14, which may seem quite reasonable. However, the thing is, the PORTION SIZE IS SMALL. I finished the sandwich quickly and found myself still hungry after dinner. The salad was $15, and the portion size was similarly much too small for the price. For a fast food-like restaurant, Souvla's prices should definitely be reduced by a few dollars. There is nothing wrong with the taste--it actually tastes very flavorful. However, it's the price that breaks it for me, and I most likely will not be returning. read more

If you are in the mood to eat healthy and clean, Souvla is the perfect place to visit! The restaurant has plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating and you order as soon as you enter. I had the Chicken Salad and the greek twist to it made the salad very tasty. I felt full after my meal, but not to the point where I felt that I was over-eating. Rather, the quantity is perfect and salads are made very fresh. There is also the option to convert the salad into a wrap or to also buy additional pita bread, appetizers, or desserts. read more

I only came here for the Greek frozen yogurt, but it was amazing. I had the plain yogurt with honey, and it was the perfect treat for a hot day. The shop is located next to the Hayes valley park so there's a lot of nice outdoor park benches/picnic tables, as well as plenty of indoor seating and patio seating. The yogurt itself is quite tart and is drizzled with honey, so it's so good for if you don't like your desserts overly sweet. If you like very sweet, you are probably better off with the baklava honey flavor! Street parking is quite difficult, but it's a nice neighborhood to walk around since there are many shops and cafes. I'll definitely return to try their other frozen yogurt flavors!! read more

We also tried the sangria which was great- not too sweet and decently strong (not watered down bad wine). For dessert, the lemon cake was tasty but odd that dried cranberries were sprinkled into the whipped cream. I appreciated the variety offered on the menu- not just typical Greek food you find everywhere else that touts "Mediterranean food". The service was super nice and efficient, and I like that it has been family owned and run (sadly an increasingly rare San Francisco characteristic these days)- you can tell the difference in the quality and thought put into the experience.

If this isn't quite how you imagine anyplace along SF's Clement Street, think again. Years later it's still packed (on a Friday night) and loud. Service was the sole miscue on my visit with 3 others. We were given menus and water but ignored after that, to a point where we reached out to get some wine and attention. As you can see from the 5-star assessment, no harm-no foul; once wine and food flowed all was forgiven. The menu required some explanation. It's not broken down in any discernible way, requiring the server to explain that all dishes ae meant to be shared and that the first several dishes are dips, then small plates, then larger. In truth, all seemed like small plates to me (or small servings) but if your wallet permits, you'll not be disappointed. There wasn't one thing we shared that we didn't 100% consume nor anything I'd not recommend. Since we sampled almost the entire menu I feel comfortable saying that everything is delicious and attractively presented. We left the alcohol order to the one at our table who'd chosen Kitchen Istanbul and she summoned the sommelier and gave him free reign. He asked what we like (hearty reds) and what we wished to spend (about $75/bottle) and we enjoyed 2 completely unique offerings that we'd not have known to choose for ourselves. He was also tasked with pairing two of the dessert wines with two of the chosen desserts and they were as enjoyable as the wines served with dinner. It's fair to say that the sommelier had fun with our table, stopping by before we left to say how much he'd appreciated the opportunity to choose for us and for us placing our trust in him. Like the rest of the City I was following Sam Smith's food journey during his time here. He never made it to Kitchen Istanbul but if he had, I think he'd have nodded in agreement with the 5-star rating.

But overall, this was a terrible experience that could have been handled much better operationally and from a customer service standpoint.

Wow, I haven't written a Yelp review in quite some time, but Souvla inspired me to do so! We were walking by today at lunchtime and decided to stop in. We don't just "drop in" to many restaurants, because I'm on Weight Watchers and my 7 year old son is a picky eater. It's hard to find a place that satisfies both of us, plus my husband. Souvla to the rescue! My picky kid had a chicken sandwich that had just bread, chicken and ketchup (phew!). I had an AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS chicken salad. The rotisserie chicken is to die for. OMG, it is so incredibly flavorful. My husband is a pretty big critic when it comes to how food is cooked, and he loved it too. Rich, juicy, delicious. The salad (mine sans cheese) was crisp, flavorful, and light, but very filling. The service was excellent. The food came out at lightening speed. And they have four separate seating areas: outside on the sidewalk, inside the front, along the side wall, and an outdoor rear patio section. I'm already looking forward to my next visit. Since there's so much love heaped on this place, thought I'd share a slightly dissenting opinion while still respecting that it is a quality place to get some greek meat-based salads. That said, it's slightly overrated in my book -- would give it a 3.75 out of 5. Here's why: - Lines are long - Salads are not bad by any means, but the quality varies by night, and how much I enjoy the salad is directly correlated to how much feta they drop in - Salads are expensive - $14 for the lamb (seriously, if I'm paying $14 for a salad, it better be slightly life-changing) - The lamb isn't great, especially compared to mediterranean and persian restaurants from LA, or just compared to Souvla's chicken - The fries are average - Everything is too pricey, considering it's set up mostly as a fast food place (order at the front) read more

I just ate here for the first time. Really really good. Nice neighborhood spot. It seems a bit on the pricey side for what you're getting; a wrap or a salad for almost $16, but hey - it's SF and everything seems to be that way. I like the cleanliness of the design and the staff uniforms. Makes me feel like I'm in a Greek taverna (or at least what I think of as a Greek taverna). I had the Chicken wrap. Very filling...tender chicken. I also like the way the radish is sliced paper thin. I would have given it three stars, but the gal at the front offered me a taste of the frozen yogurt with the baklava...talk about delicious and a great way to finish a meal! My kinda dessert! I love this place. Casual place with consistently good food. I've gotten their salads and their wraps with chicken or lamb. I've even gotten their frozen yogurt desserts (the baklava crumble and sea salt with olive oil). All amazing. We lucked out and found a table for four outside in the parklet area. My dad and bf ordered inside and then we picked the food up when it was ready! The staff still services the parklet area by clearing dishes and cleaning tables, but since it is outside, unfortunately you cannot drink any alcoholic beverages out there. We all ordered the Mary's chicken salad and it was delicious as usual. We also split a couple of frozen yogurts and were stuffed by the time we left our table. If you like Greek food, don't go here. The lamb sandwich is exactly what other reviewers honestly said: it's dry and really without favor. The bottle of hot sauce is deceptive... It's NOT HOT at all. I asked the bus boy if he has any REAL hot sauce (as he looks like he appreciates flavor in his food if he eats there), he apologized as that's all the restaurant has to spice up their bland food. Notwithstanding, the chicken sandwich was a little better. Yet overall, not worth the price... Especially since I overtipped with 20% on the bill using their credit card system (makes it too easy). As far as to-go food goes, Souvla is serving up beautifully composed salads that are fresh and full of flavor. Pros, the salad was not overdressed and had a great mix of romaine, kale, radishes, and feta. Cons, the lamb left much to be desired as it was quite dry and tough. It either needs to be crisped up, or maybe tossed in the cooking juices. Otherwise, the lamb was just stringy and not particularly good. Would I say that is it necessarily very Greek food? No. But, it was an OK lunch and a very filling portion. I wouldn't come back for the lamb, but definitely the frozen greek yogurt! read more

Souvla surprised me today. I went in just for something sweet and ended up finding a low key dessert win. The frozen yogurt was thick and creamy. Not too tart. Super easy to eat. The baklava crumble is what made it special. Light, nutty, and just sweet enough. No heaviness at all. The honey drizzle on top tied everything together and added a nice finish. I love that you can see all the succulent rotisserie meats as you walk in. the free range chicken salad was as fresh as I have ever had. they also serve what they call Greek fries! not sure if that is something you could get in Greece but I loved them. they also have frozen Greek yogurt. I had mine with a frozen olive oil drizzle. A really nice sweet and salty combo. remember when the bill comes this is not a take out place! overall I would stop here again! We didn't get to really dig into the menu here, since we already had dinner and dessert, but we got a sample and what we had was good. It's a tight fit here, and it's packed with a line out the door, which is a testament to the quality of the food and service. For us, both the food and service excelled. This place is really good and I would recommend it if youre trying to get a quick bite that is more on the expensive side. The Hayes location has the counter right at the front so the line always spills out onto the street and the rotisserie is visible on the back wall. I would recommend getting the salads in any case, as I think they're definitely more filling. Incredible service, good food, and just a relaxed ambiance. The food was fantastic, and very flavorful. I couldn't decide what to order, as everything sounded so good! I even almost chose the greek yogurt for lunch, but figured I'd choose the healthy salad option instead. I ordered the veggie salad, the sweet potatoes made it a perfect dish. The place gets quite busy around lunch time, but by the time you wait for your food the tables turnover quite fast. Will definitely try it out again soon! read more

I came in the first week Souvla was open with my friend who had just gotten a job there and wanted to show it off. The first bite of my Chicken Sandwich was breathtaking and 3 months later I am up to 4 visits a week. I actually made my bar back go and get me a second salad here during my shift last week. My friend took me here for their greek yogurt icecream but I keep coming back for their delicious salads and wraps! It's dangerous that I live close by as I always find myself getting takeout from here, which they make convenient. You can just pick up your food from the window of the restaurant instead of having to go in. I've yet to try their sandwiches...trying to be carb conscious, but they look great. Dependable good food, if a bit San Francisco bougie priced. My mom got the falafel platter, my dad got the grilled hanger steak, my partner got the musakhan and I got the chicken shish tawook plate. My mom really enjoyed the falafel platter. It was super loaded with falafel, baba ganoush and hummus. The falafels were really good. They were nicely fried, but still had a soft and tender interior. My dad liked the hanger steak, which was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The green zhug sauce was interesting, and the freekeh had a nice nutty and earthy flavor. The musakhan had a really interesting sweet/savory spiced flavor, and was complemented really nicely with the caramelized onions, sumac, pine nuts and toasted pita. The skin had a nice crispness but the chicken was super tender. The chicken shish tawook was definitely my favorite. The chicken had an incredible, charcoal-grilled taste and was super tender without being dry or overcooked at all. We were given menus and water but ignored after that, to a point where we reached out to get some wine and attention. As you can see from the 5-star assessment, no harm-no foul; once wine and food flowed all was forgiven. The menu required some explanation. It's not broken down in any discernible way, requiring the server to explain that all dishes ae meant to be shared and that the first several dishes are dips, then small plates, then larger. In truth, all seemed like small plates to me (or small servings) but if your wallet permits, you'll not be disappointed. There wasn't one thing we shared that we didn't 100% consume nor anything I'd not recommend. Since we sampled almost the entire menu I feel comfortable saying that everything is delicious and attractively presented. We left the alcohol order to the one at our table who'd chosen Kitchen Istanbul and she summoned the sommelier and gave him free reign. He asked what we like (hearty reds) and what we wished to spend (about $75/bottle) and we enjoyed 2 completely unique offerings that we'd not have known to choose for ourselves.
