I usually avoid writing mid or bad reviews, but this experience left me feeling the need to speak about it. We visited some weekend ago & unfortunately the service really missed the mark. The initial greeter ended up being our hostess & primary server for most of the night, & she was consistently unfriendly & couldn't be bothered. Each time I tried to order more food, she would dart away before I could finish. We were later passed off to another server who was slightly nicer (assuming bc the first server went on lunch), but even then, she seemed irritated & disengaged too. Both of them definitely exhibited mean girl energy. My biggest issue was the lack of genuineness & basic courtesy. Every time I said 'thank you,' their response was 'uh huh.' It was disrespectful. I was a server too, you wouldn't catch me dead responding to my customers with 'uh huh' when they say thank you..... customers shouldn't feel like they're putting staff out by being more polite!! What balances this review is the food & ambiance. The food quality was great! No complaints there. I especially enjoyed the pork belly & all the sides they offer. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also nice. Later in the evening, a third server stepped in (curly dark hair, tied in a bun) & she was amazing- always enthusiastic & smiling, & she was very quick! I honestly wish she had been our server from the start. So overall. I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon. read more

Just went there at 5:45 on Saturday and the place was exactly half empty. The smaller booths were full, but all the inner tables (seat up to 6 people) were empty. They told us 15-20 minute wait. I asked why and they said they wanted to hold those tables in case bigger parties came in. We left and will not be returning, which is a shame because the food is good. It's just bad service. The last time we went, we had to struggle to get our server's attention because the whole staff was too busy watching the Dodgers game. I had a really poor experience at Soya K-BBQ. I was visiting this area and drove a ways to get some Korean food. Once I was there they said they couldn't seat me because I was only one person. The restaurant had many seats open and I have no idea why they wouldn't want business on a slow afternoon at 2pm. I've never had this experience at any other restaurant and felt very unwelcome. They should at least state this in their yelp so someone doesn't drive all the way here just to be refused service because they are by them self. read more

First time here since new ownership and we are so relieved that we won't have to go all the way to Northridge for decent kbbq and service. Bc let's face it, Gen is a hit or miss. Came on a Sunday a little before 6pm and it was not busy. We were seated right away and our orders were taken right away. As soon as the meat was brought out, I could already tell the quality was better just by looking at the meat BEFORE we cooked it and ate it. Overall really good service and food. I will say /note that this is on the higher end of KBBQ when it comes to prices, however your options of meat and sides I feel are fair for the price for AYCE (all you can eat) for even the lowest tier. We were a party of 4 (3 adult, 1 child) and we were automatically charged an 18% "service charge". We didn't mind as we would have tipped 20% if we weren't charged the 18%. I can see how this could rub people the wrong way especially those who only like to tip a few bucks but in my opinion you get what you pay for as the food and service were very good. They were very forthcoming with the service charge and weren't trying to be sneaky about it at all. So just beware this may happen. This was another attempt to find a good Korean BBQ spot in Ventura County, and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. I've been disappointed by places in Oxnard, Newbury Park, Thousand Oaks, and another in Simi, so I was hesitant to try yet another, but a friend recommended this one, so I gave it a shot. First of all, the service, patience, and friendliness here were the best I've experienced at any Korean BBQ place in Ventura County or the SF Valley. Working at an AYCE Korean BBQ is tough. Servers are constantly running around with guest requests and swapping out hot, heavy grills. But everyone at Soya was patient and their service was consistently prompt. As usual, we started with brisket and beef belly, which were both excellent. Then we moved on to pork, which was just okay, though that may have been because I was already getting full from the brisket. Their marinated ribs were amazing. You can only order one per person, but they come completely deboned, which makes them very easy to eat. We wrapped up our meal with soybean paste soup, which is a traditional way to finish Korean BBQ, and the flavor was excellent. The only area I think could be improved is their ssamjang - it was a bit too sweet and overpowered the meat, so I couldn't enjoy them together. Came on a Saturday lunch time and it wasnt too busy. Interior was clean, neat, and the music was not too loud. Server was friendly and attentive. Side dishes were average. Probably wouldn't order the chi ken skewers again. Meat quality was great especially the beef belly. We ordered the spicy pork (not pictured) and it was way too salty. Couldn't eat it even with a bowl of white rice. I love that the portion sizes aren't too big so you can order an assortment to taste. Would definitely be back. EXCELLENT. My husband and I went to Soya BBQ (new ownership) and it was so much better than the prior Korean BBQ. We had the all you can eat options B or C recommended. The service was attentive, the sides were well flavored, fresh and the PREMIUM meats are FRESH and not frozen like others were so soft and had the most flavorful taste ever. There were lots of options to choose from and it was very clean. We have been to many Korean BBQ's and this one makes the very top making it one of our favorite restaurants ever.
