I'm not sure that I yet feel for this place the kind of love the rest of the neighborhood seems to feel for it, exploding with customers early on a rainy evening, but I had a tasty dinner and learned about a new vegetable in the process. The new vegetable (wait, was it a fruit?), caperberries, were in the Insalata Eoliana and I couldn't place them at first. With the taste of a caper and texture of a Thai eggplant, they're aptly named. The rest of the salad was... strange, but I enjoyed the bizarre experience of having potatoes and tuna in the same salad as cucumbers and arugula. No, seriously. I enjoyed it just as much as the pizza, which was good, but in my opinion not excellent, for two reasons: as a 'funghi' pizza it needed a larger variety of mushrooms, and it also needed more oil. It ended up being a little too bready for a Neapolitan pizza. I got this to go for my little picnic with friends so my review might change when I go there in person . In short, I will check this place in person in the near future because it is the real deal. Because I knew this place was going to be jumping, I decided to try to order around noon today for pickup by 6:15. I was told that they don't have a way to really order ahead so I should call back closer to the time I want to pick it up. While this was a little odd, they were pretty nice about that and I appreciated the good customer service. I asked him what the arancini of the day was. He told me it was summer squash and lemon zest. He said it's really good and I agreed! I put that on my list! I was hoping to pick it up a little after 6 so I called at 5:35 thinking that would be enough time. When they answered the phone, they must have said it was going to be 10 to 15 minutes, but I swore they said 15 to 20 minutes. I ordered my food and started to make my way to the place which was 20 minutes away. They would text me when the food was ready (great plan). However, the food was ready in 8 minutes! Great turnaround, but I was then very late. I would have thought they would have kept it warm, but the box was just out. No surprise that my pizza was cold by the time I stared eating it. I know it was mostly on me, but it was a little disappointing. The arancini was warm so that wasn't bad! Once I got to the park, I saw my next problem. The pizza was not cut. This was a common issue with my other friends who got their food there too. Luckily, one of us had a pizza cutter, but that was more time for the pizza to get cold. The pizza, however, was outstanding. I got the pistachio which included sausage and cheese. Great white pizza! I highly recommend. The dough was delicious and the ingredients were fresh. Some thought it was a little pricey, but I thought it was fairly price, especially for the quality. This is the Italian pizza you are looking for! The arancini was also fantastic, but it was full of blue cheese, not lemon zest and summer squash. While I was a little disappointed on that, the blue cheese one was solid and probably better anyway! What a fortunate mistake. Setbacks aside, I could tell that this place is a hidden treasure in Lincoln Square and will be back in person to get another pizza. We were able to make reservations for lunch at 1pm, and had to get reseated since we had a bit of a tough time with a family that had a couple of loud kids that made it difficult for us to have conversation. No offense, but we just couldn't hear each other. The staff was very understanding and accommodating in moving us over. They also seemed very in tune with the menu and pronunciation of the items. We started with the Polpette meatballs which were very good and I had the Capricciosa pizza substituting the proscuitto for spicy soppressata and it was delicious. Made a reservation for 9 people for 6:30pm on a Sunday. Make sure your whole party is there so you can get seated on time! We ordered 2 burrata for the table that came out almost instantly. AMAZING! Spacca's burrata was the best that I've had in the city. The creamy cheese is drizzled with olive oil and paired with the crunchy bread; it's to die for. I'd eat this every day if I could! Pizza wise my favorite was the Pistachio. Sounds weird right? One of our friends had been here before and highly recommended it - I'm so glad they did. All of the ingredients were fresh and the flavors were unique. A definite must try! We also ordered the Diavola, Margherita, Prosciutto e Rucola, the special with the duck egg on top and truffle, and a few more. Every one of them was delicious! Clearly I need to go back and eat them again. Dessert wise you really can't go wrong with the Tiramisu, however the Panna Cotta stole the show for me. It was silky, creamy, and smooth, but was contrasted by the pear balsamic compote sauce. The tartness of the sauce calmed down the sweetness and created a nice balance. What a spot! It is always busy for a reason! This is such a great neighborhood restaurant in Ravenswood. The wines were fresh and delicious. We started with burrata and the grilled octopus. THE BURRATA. The best I have ever had. I cannot recommend it enough. Expensive but worth it! I also tried the arancini another time and those are delicious and they often have rotating ones! The ocotpus was also flavorful and great for a Catholic on a Friday in Lent. So many options for the pizza it was hard to choose. Next time I think I want to try the squash or pistachio, but my pizza this time was lovely. We went for lunch recently. The restaurant is conveniently located near the Brown Line, so is easy to get to. It was before noon when we arrived, and they were already starting to get busy, with patio tables in high demand. We sat inside, which was fine. The space is sparsely decorated and uninteresting. Service was not good, as people have noted here on Yelp. We waited too long for our server to take our order, and when he was at the table he was very rushed, already on to the next thing. He failed to tell us about specials, and, since it was our first visit, we didn't see the small blackboard listing them until we both went to use the bathrooms. Not that the blackboard was especially enlightening; just a list of Italian words, with no explanation, so you really do need the waiter to stop for a minute and tell you about them. Annoying. The pizza itself was good but not great. We ordered one red sauce and one white, The Capricciosa and The Fiorentina, and both had nice toppings, but the dough was not fully cooked. Their oven may be a little hot, as the crust had blackened spots on top (totally acceptable with this style of pizza), but the interior crust hadn't been cooked through. That's a dealbreaker for me, especially here in Chicago, where you can find this style of pizza at many restaurants throughout the city. Moving on. read more

They took the time to explain the menu and choices. We went for a basic pizza with mushrooms. Napoli pizza is its own style. The idea is the keep it in the oven only a short time. It comes to the table soft. I mention this because if you're not familiar with the Napoli style, now you know what to expect. I also mention it because I wouldn't say I'm a total fan of this style of pizza. But this is a standout restaurant and if you want a Napoli style pizza, this has to be one of the best spots in Chicago. It's just not completely possible for me to fully represent this spot. I've been here twice. I don't really understand the hype of this place. I find the food to be quite mediocre. The pizza is just fine. Not bad not great just fine. Appetizers are really just average. We ordered a salad as well that came with a (canned) tuna dumped on top...I thought it would be tuna tar tar or actual tuna whole fish. The table next to us send their pizza back due to a hair that didn't belong to them, that turned me off even more. My sister turned 30 this year and I wanted to throw her a party - I was looking all over for a good place to get a room for a dinner with friends and family and she suggested that I reach out to Spacca as it is her favorite restaurant. Am I so glad that she suggested it!! I had never been before and there is so much to rave about! Jason, who I communicated with over email to get a larger table in a private area of the restaurant, was super responsive and helpful! I had a silly theme I wanted to incorporate into the party and they were super game - open to the guests dressing up and accommodating of me bringing printouts for decoration. Past that, Jorge, our server was super fun, kind, patient, and knowledgeable. He had really great recommendations as a lot of the attendees were first time visitors and he was able to deal with the chaos of 16 people all talking over each other and mingling insanely well! Finally, the food was insanely delicious! We ordered burrata, caprese, and salsiccia e brocoletti and all of them were absolutely cleaned up. Everyone ordered their own pizzas and it was genuinely my favorite Neapolitan style pizza I had ever had - it's going to be my new go-to for pizza in Chicago! We had a reservation for group of 6 and were seated right away for a late lunch. We ordered everything to share: Arancini 5/5 - one of the best I've had! Perfectly crispy outside and soft and chewy inside that was seasoned well Burrata 4/5 - nice and creamy but could have used a little more salt possibly? We added the house chili sauce and it was perfect for it Prosciutto e rucola 4.5/5 - came with bread and it was also very flavorful and well portioned Onto the pizzas! Margherita 4.5/5 - a classic to use for comparison. Very good but honestly needed more of their delicious basil! Felt like it was very sparse Funghi e salsiccia 4/5 - if you like mushrooms and sausage this was a good combo! Diavola 4.5/5 - one of my favorites of the night. Sauce and pepperoni were so good together Fiorentina 3/5 - my least favorite; the cheese was creamy but lacked seasoning so with that and the spinach it definitely needed chili flakes or the oil for more flavor Pistacchio 5/5 - my favorite! The pistachio into the sauce and pesto was a nice textural addition as well as subtle flavoring! The sausage must be house made because it was delicious For desserts we each had a tasting of the tiramisu and panna cotta. Both absolutely delicious - perfect way for us to end our meal! This is probably the location of my fondest pizza memories in Chicago - and considering how popular Chicago is for its pizza, that's quite a statement to make. So excited was I for this little bit of Naples, that I braved public transport for this momentous occasion. A group of friends and I made reservations ahead of time and were SO ridiculously excited to dine here - after our party was seated, we quickly ordered a few of the famed burratas for the table, and then went back to perusing the pizza menu. After much contemplation and indecision, I decided to go with the Diavola (blended San Marzano tomatoes, fior di latte, Calabrese soppressata, basil) and excitedly awaited my order. Mamma Mia was this delicious!!!! It had everything I wanted and then some - a deliciously chewy yet thin crust, a solid tang in the tomato sauce, the perfect amount of heat to keep me happy, and some freshness from the basil. I was absolutely sold on this pizza, and continue to dream about it two years later. Despite being absolutely stuffed, the masochists within us decided to order some dessert (why not when everything else was impeccable) - so we ordered a few plates of Spumoni and Tiramisu to share. Spacca Napoli hit all the right notes, yet again. This place does not have bells or whistles, its main attraction is actually the food. No fancy decor, no loud music, just the food. Visited for dinner before a show at Artifact Events and am so glad we did! We were celebrating my sisters birthday and were treated so well, they did a wonderful job making her feel special. The ambiance was cozy and unpretentious, reminiscent of some of my favorite meals in Spain and Italy.
