There's a certain color of mild yellow I associate with Italy; a rich cream stirred with fat to make it somehow more delicious. A color that absorbs a fuchsia sunset, turning it to candlelight. The walls of Spacca Napoli are painted with this color which I find immensely comforting. The staff also matches my Italian dreams. They've got the "I'm only going to bring you things that are spectacular and if it's lost on you ‍" swagger. They are also professionals and beneath the veneer of that somewhat detached professionalism you can tell they care. The food is spectacular because the ingredients are spectacular, and they are combined in the right way. Nothing is overwrought. They've got the same covetable Associazione Vera Pizza Napoletana certification that Coda Di Volpe has except they got it first. Order a lot. Get the arancini, get one more pizza than you think you should, stuff yourself silly with dessert. If it's a date tour yourselves through the gorgeous wines by the glass. If you're four or more do the same with 2-3 bottles. Be a cartoonish cliché as you eat, laugh, and drink but without being loud and jerkish to the rest of the room. read more

So we called in wanting to make a reservation for our wedding anniversary. They said they don't do reservations and that we just had to come in. When we got there, they told us we couldn't get a table since we didn't have a reservation. So we got it to go & ate it at Winnemac park nearby. The food was very good but that whole interaction left kind of a bad taste. Pizzas are pretty small so make sure to get 1 per person. read more

This is an authentic Naples style pizzeria. Great atmosphere, and service. The we had the ensalada mista , sparkling rose and Conciato pizza . Everything was delicious and well made . I'd definitely get the salad and wine going forward. The pizza was well made and unique. It had a smoked mozzarella, squash sauce and toasted nuts. It was nice however the cheese was a bit strong for my personal liking . It was still really good. As a side note they do not take reservations over the phone. I had read about this place in the 'best places for pizza in Chicago' but tried it for the first time last week...it did not disappoint! The service was terrific and the food was outstanding! My daughter and I started with the Caprese, it was really good (great burrata) and we ate it on top of some bread that they served. We split the funghi and the Fiorentina (which is prepared without traditional pizza sauce) pizzas, we liked them both and the crust was probably my favorite part. What can I say about this place. Beautiful restaurant with amazing food. And thank god it's not super posh or high nose like many places in chicago with chic decor but very average food. This place really feels like random beautiful restaurants I would go to in my few experiences in Italy. Everything is very reasonably priced and the pizza is THE BEST in all of Chicago. The staff is always friendly, and they also have a beautiful patio area in the summers when it's nicer out. I am always excited to come back and look at their specials and pizza options but inevitably always getting the margherita. Add another stellar review. I went with some coworkers (I work at a restaurant) saying it was the best Italian pizza in the city. I have to say I absolutely, 100% agree. We had a bottle of wine, I don't know what it was. I went with a sommelier so I just let her pick and it was delicious. Sorry. I suck. Now first of all, we got their arancini of the day. It was a lovely amuse bouche to wake up my palette for the rest of the meal. It was some sort of sausage, it was delicious. That's being it said, it was a fried rice ball. You could have put pennies in the middle and it would probably be delicious. Luckily they didn't put pennies, they went with sausage and cheese. Now, we got the burrata. I love burrata, I get it everywhere. It's mozzarella with cream in the middle, giving the dense cheese a lightness and spreadability. Their product is mind blowing out of the world. Best I've ever had and considering I've had over 50, that's saying something. Their bread is homemade and delicious. Their burrata is topped with their flavorful olive oil and some flaky salt and I dreaded sharing it with my dining companions. Like I resentfully did, but I wasn't happy about it. Now onto the pizza. It was perfection. We had the diavola which was tomatoey and slightly spicy (like just tickles you tongue spicy, not overwhelming). The spice brings out the sweetness of the tomatoes. We got the fungi, I love mushrooms, so that was a winner. But the best was the pizza with the ricotta, sausage and pistachios. The server chose it when I asked if we are missing something that we wound regret not having. He chose it and it was THE BEST. There was another pizza, I don't remember it because that one was so massively flawless. Desserts are forgettable and unnecessary. Sorry that's just the truth. I make a mean tiramisu and theirs simply lacks the boozy, sharpness of espresso mixed with marsala wine and a liqueur soaked ladyfingers, opposite a creamy satisfying layer or rich marscapone lightened with raw egg whites, but I digress. Ordered to go on a Friday night - it did take about an hour plus for the food to be ready (they were completely slammed) Since going to Italy I constantly crave the Napolian style pizza and this place did not disappoint . The margarita is flavored perfectly and tasted just as it did with when I was in Italy (and I bet even better fresh from the oven) I learned that it is traditional for the pizza not to be cut however challenging when bringing it home without a pizza cutter. However I'm knocking off one star because: The days of seating single women in a room away from other guests are over. Granted it was a warm day between 12N and 1 PM and most customers were sitting outside. Although one couple occupied the room off the main entrance, I was ushered into the next large empty room with some chairs were stacked on tables. At least the host gave me a window seat. Because I was hungry, I just raised my eyebrow and decided to make the best of it. Later, when I was ready for my espresso, the host brought a couple (tourists?) to this room. So, if the management is listening, please encourage your staff not to put single, older women in isolation. Forget the stereotype of stingy tippers. *Celiac review* I was happy to snag a reservation here and have a date night with my boyfriend. This place seems like it is always busy, so that must tell ya something! To start, we ordered the burrata and I requested gluten free bread, which is the same as the gf pizza crust, but it was incredibly tasty and I didn't want to share lol. The olive oil and sea salt adds a more savory flavor to the burrata and it's one of the best that I've had in Chicago. On to the pizza - I ordered the Enzo, which is a white pizza with smoked provolone. Truth be told, I didn't love my pizza (still ate it and ate my leftovers because it was still good) because I didn't realize it was a white pizza and I don't love smoky flavors. BUT my bf ordered the salsiccia pizza and just from smelling it, I could tell that I would absolute love a red sauce pizza from here. The gluten free crust is flavorful and totally different than any other pizzeria in the city and definitely doesn't taste like a frozen pizza crust that you have to pay $3 extra for at other restaurants. For dessert we had the raspberry sorbet gelati which was a nice sized portion for $6. Great selection of Italian beer and wine as well. Staff was incredible about masks and spacing for Covid. It had been a while since I've been here and it was pretty busy for a Tuesday. Pizza wasn't BAD but in hindsight was a bit undercooked on the bottom toward the middle, making it a bit more "floppy" than expected (it firmed up better the next day...couldn't finish it so had leftover). I think this was the best pizza I've had in chicago! So good. The staff was great, they offer delivery and pick up with covid. They also have some outdoor seating, although no heaters. I honestly don't know what an authentic Napoli pizza would be like, but I'd like to believe this place does a great job in providing that authenticity! It definitely is different from the typical pizza you'd get, with very soft and chewy dough and the entire thing baked inside the stone oven! The pizza itself is also not so salty so you can eat as many slices as you'd like! I also really enjoyed their bruschetta appetizer - the creamy cheese went wonderfully with their bread. We went for lunch recently. The restaurant is conveniently located near the Brown Line, so is easy to get to. It was before noon when we arrived, and they were already starting to get busy, with patio tables in high demand. We sat inside, which was fine. The space is sparsely decorated and uninteresting. Service was not good, as people have noted here on Yelp. We waited too long for our server to take our order, and when he was at the table he was very rushed, already on to the next thing. He failed to tell us about specials, and, since it was our first visit, we didn't see the small blackboard listing them until we both went to use the bathrooms. Not that the blackboard was especially enlightening; just a list of Italian words, with no explanation, so you really do need the waiter to stop for a minute and tell you about them. Annoying. The pizza itself was good but not great. We ordered one red sauce and one white, The Capricciosa and The Fiorentina, and both had nice toppings, but the dough was not fully cooked. Their oven may be a little hot, as the crust had blackened spots on top (totally acceptable with this style of pizza), but the interior crust hadn't been cooked through. That's a dealbreaker for me, especially here in Chicago, where you can find this style of pizza at many restaurants throughout the city. Moving on. read more

For the love of pizza! This place was amazing and everything I was hoping for. The food and customer service was superb and definitely kept me wanting for more. I went here on a Saturday night and it was crowded. The wait was supposed to be 40 minutes or longer but ended up waiting 30 minutes instead. While we waited outside for open tables, the staff passed around a sample of their burrata which already set the tone on how good this place was going to be. Once seated the server goes over any specials of the day and answer any questions about the menu. I ordered the melanzane- roasted eggplant with tomatoes, basil, and garlic...amazing! They have a wide variety of pizza flavors to choose from. The pizza of choice was the porcini e carciofi which consisted of mushroom, artichoke, and parmesan which was also very tasty and filling. The pizza does take awhile to cook but that's what the appetizers are for! Also don't forget to grab a dessert on your way out, they gave away free canoli that were also very good.
