Excellent pizza as always. This time we tried the gluten free pizza. We directly taste compared normal margarita and gluten free margarita. While we could tell the difference, the gluten free was excellent. We have been doing a gluten free tasting around town and this is by far the best so far (less eggy than the coda del vlope pizza, but that is second). I came here again after visiting the Koval Distillery as part of the Chicago Open House Architecture weekend. I almost forgot it was that close, down on Ravenswood Avenue. I have a dreadful sense of direction! I was alone when I first went back in April but since I had another party with me I wanted to bring them in too. We had a nice time (I wanted to chat with the owners again, but they were in Italy, maybe doing research for more yummy recipes?). I had really good red wine, my party had a cool Italian beer for drinks. We got a salad, arancini (the special of the day was saffron rice) and the sausage with broccoli and pepper flakes. In all honesty, all fire oven brick pizzas are relatively the same to me. With that being said, I do love the size of the pizzas, the texture of it chewy yet crispy. How often does the opening act become greater than the main attraction? How often have you had an appetizer, unassuming at first glance, end up being so memorable that you've been instantly converted into a devotee? My answer is not often but it happened when I had the Burrata cheese ball at Spacca. Burrata is like a really soft mozzarella ball with a soft gooey center. Served with crisp and warm Italian or Sour dough bread and now your talkin!! Drizzled with a little olive oil and Parmesan and red chili flakes - served with a little red and - Mama Mia, where have I been?? So as you can tell I'm a big fan of their Burrata and don't get me wrong - the Vongole (clams) and Saliccia e Funghi (sausage, mushroom, ricotta) were great choices for our pizzas. The pizzas were light, airy and with a chewy crust. Dis ain't tavern style folks but it's quite good. I've tried to recapture that feeling by getting Burrata at Costco, Mariano's and Fresh Farms but it's just not the same. So I hope to be back soon and this time, I'll have to try Spacca's Pistachio pizza so That i can conduct a comparative analysis with Forno Rosso's. Came here for my birthday with the family and had a great time and a great meal! Each pizza is about 10", so if you go with a large group, I definitely recommend getting a few and splitting them. We started with the burrata and the insalata eoliana. The bread that comes with was delicious, and the burrata was beautifully creamy. The dressing on the salad was excellent and light. We got four pizzas: margherita, funghi e salsiccia, prosciutto e rucola, and pistacchio. All were delicious. The server recommended the whole grain crust with the prosciutto, and while still good, it probably would have been better with the regular crust. The funghi was delicious, and the sauce on the margherita was heavenly. The server was great and efficient, and checked in just the right amount of time. The only frustrating thing was the table next to us had an incredibly loud individual at it, to the point where we had to repeat ourselves to our own group multiple times to be heard over him. That, however, was not the server's fault. The place was packed, and I would definitely recommend getting a reservation before you go. Parking was relatively easy, as it's Ravenswood. There's nothing quite like sipping a crisp white wine outside with friends and devouring a tasty pizza. If you're an indoors person, they have great seating inside.
