Okay, I just made a Yelp account because I had to give this place 5 stars. I have been searching for a decent nail place in the tri-city area for months now and this may be the one! It's very clean and new (Kim my manicurist says they have only been open for 5 months). I went on a Friday afternoon and there was just one other girl getting her acrylics done, so I was seated right away. I got a very nice lady named Kim who was so gentle with my cuticles that I almost fell asleep. (You know it's a good thing when you almost fall asleep during the filing/ cuticle cutting part!!) Her hand massages were the longest I have ever had and she did an impeccable french manicure and made sure the tips were PERFECT. If things couldn't have been better, it did. She gave me a discount as well. I walked out of that place singing five stars! I have sensitive feet and its very important to me that the ladies that do my pedicure are gentle, the girl was slightly rough on my feet but nothing to bad. The lady that did my hands was a bit rude with the way she asked me stuff but she did a good job making my hands look pretty. I also did my eyebrows and it was amazing. After reading so many reviews about Jenny and how good she is with acrylics, I felt the need to come to Sparkle Nails to get two of my broken acrylics fixed and the rest of my nails filled. With this said, I have previously gotten my nails done in Elk Grove and needed to get my nails done while I stay in the East Bay. I called in on Friday to see if I could schedule an appointment with Jenny. The gentleman on the phone said that she would be able to see me in 30 minutes for what I needed. Upon arrival, I was greeted by the gentleman I spoke with on the phone and then kindly introduced to Jenny who said she would be with me in a couple of minutes. I did not mind the wait since I came in past the 30 minutes, and since it was a Friday, I expected the shop to be quite busy. While waiting, the gentleman asked me if I was going to do gel on top of the acrylics. I said yes and he promptly gave me a bunch of colors to choose from. It was very nice to see that the selection of gel colors were vast and some of them were organized by "mood changing" and some by brands like OPI. While waiting for about 5 minutes and trying to select a color, Jenny finished her client and told me she was ready to see me. I went to her station and she brought out a clean towel and some clean tools to work on my nails. From there, she assessed my two broken nails and the previous acrylic set I had. I told her that I wasn't so satisfied with what I had because the bottom of the nails were too wide and looked funny to me. Jenny said that she can make the nails less wide and look more natural. Jenny then asked which color I'd like to get for the gel. As I was stuck between two colors, I asked for her suggestion. She suggested a light purple which I thought might be too light for my liking. From there, Jenny got to work and filled my nails and fixed up my two broken nails. Before applying the gel, she told me to tell her if I saw anything that needs fixing so that it is to my liking. I had nothing to criticize and let her put on the gel. Once she was finished with the gel and all the light fixings, I was extremely satisfied with the result. Jenny did everything I asked her to do when I sat down in the chair and selected a color I thought I wouldn't like, but ended up really liking. What makes Sparkle Nails an even better place is that Jenny was able to repair a nail I broke yesterday, today. I broke the nail due to my own fault being too rough with my hands and nails and a corner broke. Jenny was able to fix my nail and I anticipated that she was going to peel off the whole acrylic and redo the whole nail. Instead of doing something as painful as that, Jenny took the time to remove the gel and just repair the area. Again, Jenny failed to disappoint me and did an awesome job. The workers are very friendly and nice, but I am not impressed with their work. I got a shellac manicure and it took much longer than how long it takes at other salons. And the chair I was sitting in was very uncomfortable and made my back hurt. On top of that, the coats of polish on my nails were not even. My nails are different shades of white because of the thickness of the coats. On top of that, they chipped today! It has only been one day! That's what I expect for regular polish, but definitely not shellac. I do not recommend coming here to get a shellac manicure. I'm still on the search for a good nail salon in the area that's not too pricey. read more

I took out one star because I discovered today that the owner takes out $2 from the tips that I add on my credit card payment. The tips should go directly to the ladies who did the work. This place is clean, inexpensive and professional. I booked my appt around 10am and was in there at 345pm having the time of my life. I specifically requested Crystal because she's has a following of clients raving about her. She lives true to the hype. She's very nice, professional, gentle (not bleeding or unnecessary poking&prodding here!) and very good at what she does. She just recently took over this place a month ago, so anything reviews prior to September is not applicable to the current nail salon. Everyone is really nice, kinda chatty if you feel like talking but willing to leave you be if that's what you want. For the pedicure, I noticed that she opened a sanitized packet of tools specifically for just my feet. The massage chair is AWESOME and free, so I can't knock the not-so-personalized massage experience there. The foot massage was almost orgasmic, if it was just a tad bit longer.. but yes, this is a nail salon, NOT a foot spa. She also uses a scrub on your feet and lower leg before washing it and painting your nails. If you don't come with pedicure friendly shoes (i.e flip flops), they provide the disposable ones. The manicure, I got acrylics with white tips. She was very efficient at what she does. She rounded out the corners of my nails to make sure I don't get sued for inflicting bodily harm on others and she also listened to the actual length I preferred (short&sweet please!). I paid a total of $45. Pedicure was 18 plus 3 for french. Manicure was 21 plus 3 for french. I tipped her nicely because at those prices, even this college (so therefore "frugal") girl knows to tip well because her service was worth it! I'll be going back soon because she's apparently a waxing goddess according to another client I saw there. Her waxing services are also far cheaper than others. Can I just be selfish and wish people not call for appointments with Crystal? I really would like to keep this woman all to myself, haha but she deserves the recognition! read more

Yelp, you have deceived me. Since my favorite nail salon is closed on Sunday, Top Line in Fremont, I decided to check out a new place on help. Sparkles was the runner up with 4 stars and 22 reviews. Seriously, I think I might have gone to a different salon, because I experienced nothing like the service or quality of treatment that the other Yelpers experienced! While the price is great ($10 for a mani, $13 for a french mani), and there was no need to make an appt, I now know that things that seem too good are really TOO GOOD. The lady who gave me my mani first cut one of my nails too short and I yelled out "f---" and she's like oh sorry. Then while cutting my cuticles she proceeds to make me bleed twice! Not one, but twice! When I walked out I looked at my french mani, and while there is supposed to be a pink rosy tint, my nails look purple! And now, 24 hours later, three of my nails are chipped. And you know what I've done in the last 24 hours? No dishes, no cooking, only going to class and typing. Seriously lame. I've been getting manis and pedis for the last 11 years of my life, never have I had one THIS BAD! Don't ever come here. read more

Very strange, I actually enjoyed the service before. I seriously do not know what happened with the service the last couple of times I was there. the positive: Nice massage chairs Staff is friendly: but nice only gets you so far the negatives: -I was told it would be 5 min...when I walked in...well 5 min. turned into 20 min. Then I was seated in the massage chairs and waited for another 10 min. for someone to start on my pedicure. Note: if you will take longer than 5 min. pls. be honest and don't lie to get someone to wait. -I wish I would've gotten her name, but OMG this gal was BRUTAL with the pedicure. I even had to say "ouch" for her to chill with the aggressive pedicure. She just looked up at me and giggled. WTH! Maybe it was just her because I haven't experienced this with anyone else. Sorry I didn't get her name. If I did I'd say avoid her! -The nail polish selection is garbage, bring your own. -They take a very long time to do both mani/pedi. That is why I only did my pedi that day. The prices are good, but honestly I think I'd rather go somewhere else...even if that means paying just a little bit more. My sister introduced me to this place and I'm now a huge fan. I'll be a frequent guest here. I came in to get just a manicure with french tips and gel with a hint of glitter all this for only $15 bucks. I want to go back to get a pedi now! Hands down and feet on the ground these ladies do a fantastic job, no rushing, great quality and more. The location could be better but the great service here makes that part irrelevant. I don't know the name of my manicurist but she was really nice and even managed to engage in conversation. My very first pedicure experience! And I still can't stop staring at my freshly french-tipped toes. I didn't know that a pedicure could involve so much more than just a clip, file, and coat of paint. The facilities here are sparkling clean, with a row of brand-new, state-of-the-art (I'm just assuming here, from my complete lack of nail-salon experience) massage-chair/foot-spa lounges-things. My pedicure was very thorough, and my toenails and cuticles have never looked so clean, shapely, and fresh. I read all of these great reviews and decided to try Sparkle Nail since it was also conveniently located by my place. SO I went in for a much need fill and also a pedicure. There were two ladies working at the time, not busy at all. Kim assisted me right away, and let me tell you she was amazing! My pedicure was probably one of the best ones Ive ever had. They dont rush at all which is what I just love. Even when another person came in while I was getting my fill, she told the customer honestly it would be another 20 minutes not like the typical "oh just a few minutes". Another thing I liked is that she didnt talk my ear off and let me relax. :) She was very gentle with me and did a great job overall! Clean facility which is a definite plus. I booked my appointment on-line for a brazilian and it was very easy. When I got there (about 15 min. early) I said I had an 11:00 appointment with Kim. I was told it would be about 10 minutes. No big deal since I was early. Then when she was ready, almost 20 minutes later, she did not even know what my appointment was for. She thought I was getting my nails done! She took me to the waxing room and she left, when she returned, she got her supplies out; multiple sticks, cloth, etc. I don't expect to help and hold my skin tight during waxing. She went over the same place several times in a row, something that I am not used to and it is painful. She did not do my "back-side" which I expect with a full brazilian. She did clean off excess wax and put on a cooling cream, which is where the 1 star comes in. She left when she was done and I was absdolutely mortified to see the sticks still sitting on the table when I sat up. She apparently used the same stick the entire time. That is so unsanitary and I am thoroughly disgusted! I would not recommend this salon for waxing! read more

Wow, this place has gotten crowded since I last been here. Not really a problem since there are ton of employees working here, and the wait isn't too long. $25 ($26 if you pay by credit card) for a quick mani/pedi is worth it here. You don't get a rushed job and they even include a nice scrub, that's usually considered a "premium" at other salons like the overpriced/ nothing too special ZAZA. It's a clean salon and every time I go...which is when they first open, they're always so nice and welcoming. I love the shellac, I tried it once and have been hooked on it. Tracy does my shellac and she is by far amazing. I love how she does my nails, she gets it perfect every time. Holly is also great as well. Make sure to check out her designs, they're pretty good and there are a TON. I refer people to this place because they're just that good and reasonably priced. I have no complaints about this salon. Only good things to say: free parking. cheap. I'm wondering if the expected quality of nail salons is similar to the sushi in the area because this was another disappointment. I saw only one sterilizer...with nothing in it. This place isn't pretty and has questionable cleanliness and quality of nail polish. The polish I picked said Essie but the polish itself seemed very separated and chipped the next day [that's never happened when I use 'real' Essie] the good: cheap [mani/pedi $26] - free parking the bad: cleanliness - 3 nails chipped within 2 days - sloppy pedicure and another thing - I really don't like when employees spend the whole damn time speaking in another language.
