Some friends and I decided to try this new place on Magnolia Avenue-- I was excited that the Magnolia area finally got a thai restaurant. The menu looked familiar, and then I realized that the place was operated by the same owners as one of my other favorite thai restaurants-- Thai Select. I was not disappointed! We had the papaya salad as an appetizer, which was a great starter-- it was flavorful and spicy. Then I ordered one of my usuals, pad see ew with chicken-- good flavor and generous proportions. Stumbled in here after finding it "near us" on Yelp. Modern decor, definitely geared toward a hip crowd. Pricing was what we expected. Entries average about $12-$15, at least at all the items we wanted to try. Personal issue - I get overwhelmed by a huge menu. This has several pages of items, so we stuck to the specials. We had the spicy prawns with asparagus and the snapper. Both were excellent. Perfectly cooked and I liked the spice level (we picked 3 on both). The service was okay. They were very attentive when they came by our table and helpful in discussing the menu, they just didn't come by often enough. We would have definitely ordered a second beer. There is no curbside service offered. Takeout orders can only be picked up by entering the same small entrance vestibule as dining room customers who seem not spaced out and none had masks on except when entering or leaving. My mom and I have been craving good Thai food since we moved to Fort Worth last May from California. Spice was delicious and the best Thai food we've had so far! We were seated right away when we came in, but had to wait for quite a while since it was a packed night (Sunday around 7:30 pm). Service was great and the waiters always make sure you never have an empty glass of water and are constantly checking on you. I ordered the Pad Thai with chicken and won ton soup, mom got the green curry with chicken, and boyfriend got the Basil Sauce Beef. All were delicious and pretty close to the Thai food we're used to eating in CA. We will be coming back soon to try more! read more

UPDATE: Come to think of it, I really do like this place. The curry dishes are fantastic. My favorite is the Panang and is seriously good enough to warrant an extra star (my initial review was 3 stars). I still stand behind everything below; however, the place is great for a nice lunch. Previous: Spice is decent. Don't get me wrong, I go there quite often for lunch despite the wait staff. It is not that the wait staff are "bad", per se; however, if you can't hear what they are saying, it is very difficult to communicate. Anyway, I am not that big of a fan of the Pad Thai (I add a descriptor of "non" as a lead in), but, the curry dishes keep me coming back. Be forewarned, their heat scale is 1 (not as hot) to 5 (hottest) in theory alone. They are very unpredictable. If you want to test this, order a 3 one time, then a 5, then a 2 the next. You should see what I am talking about. The food is good, but if you have an aversion to heat, don't order anything that may be spicy. Very similar to Thai Select off South Hulen since it is owned by the same owner. My go to order is always the Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodle) with a spice level of 3. Absolutely yummy! So I definitely didn't think I would like this place because of the name. Basically, I'm a wimp and I can't handle any spice. At all. It took me WAY too long to try this gem of a place simply because of that, but there are so many options that you can get with 0 spice level! This is hands down the best Thai food spot in Fort Worth! The Pad Thai, Massaman Curry, Cashew Nuts Stir Fry, Pineapple Fried Rice and Pad See Ew are just a few of my favorites! You can add any type of protein you'd like or have it just as is. The portions are huge, so it's easy to share or bring home half for leftovers the next day. It's pretty fairly priced for the amount and quality of food you get. This is definitely a casual spot and all the servers seem to take care of all the tables and when they get busy it can be a bit chaotic getting someone to take your order. You just have to embrace the madness knowing you're about to get a fantastic meal. You typically can't make reservations and they don't have a good system for putting your name on a wait list so I suggest getting there early if it's on the weekend. I'm flipping addicted to the Pad Kra Pow. So I came here for the first time for lunch with a bud.its on the edge of the Southside and you have to know you're going to go. Great ambience and cool building. Staff all joking and friendly. I've heard it's an off shoot of a Thai place off Hulen and I-20. Don't know for sure. Asked the waiter the most common dish and he said Pad Kra. Sure, new to me, but I'll try it. He asked the heat level 1-5 and I told him 3. Lunch came with a mini salad and a veggie roll, steamed. Had this sweet peanut sauce. The flavors and freshness were just oozing with perfection. That sauce I could swim in. When my dish showed up it came with a scoop of white rice. Minced chicken marinated with peppers. Tasted like lettuce wraps from other establishments... hint, hint. BUT it was so much better. So fresh and so clean. And so spicy. Beef pad thai was tasty with a perfect amount of sauce, making it moist but not greasy. There were triangles of tofu in the pad thai which I enjoyed, but you can eat around them, if you don't like tofu. Green curry was great, with spicy level 4. Chicken cashew was just good, not many cashews. Fresh spring rolls with shrimp, in rice paper...I've had better, but they were ok, with peanut sauce. Definitely would return. I've came before maybe 3 times in the past two yrs or so bc the food was good but the service I received was very rude today, I had to cancel my order and leave. they didn't even apologize or try to keep my business .. I had several questions and was a little confused about the order I had just placed and they just gave me annoyed looks. the guy taking my Order even grunted very loudly and was so annoyed by me.. I only had questions about the noodle Tom yum soup bc it said it has noodles and vegetables and it turns out it doesn't have vegetables n it just has basil and sprouts??? Other times I've ordered it, it did come w mushrooms too. And they wont sub the noodles for vermicelli noodles either?? Which they've done before too... and the lady said "not us we haven't done that" n she pointed at herself and the guy. when I said that I mean the restaurant!!!! I just politely told them to cancel my order and left!! I work in customer service and you don't make your clientele feel as if they are an inconvenience to you... and it was very slow in there too so I don't understand the extreme frustration! Our first visit. This has been on our bookmarked list for awhile. But life gets in the way of eating so we finally made it. We were fortunate to get seating since we arrived at 7:00 on a Saturday evening. Started with Thai Ice Tea. It was yummy with just the right amount of cream. An appetizer of Thai beef jerky. The meat was not dried like American beef jerky. It was served with a delicate pepper sauce. My SO selected the Crispy Koa Soi Shrimp. The flavors were perfect, she did not know it was a soup dish. I selected the Pad Asparagus w Brown Rice. Just the light dish I needed after a 100 mile cycling ride. It was large enough to have some take home. We capped off the dinner with Mango Sticky Rice - a must have for the perfect Thai dinner. I could tell it was made with care and fresh ingredients. Didn't care for the chicken or pork as it was hammered thin like many Thai places do. I found the texture to be odd and a little hard to eat by the shape. So I'm perplexed it was good, fresh, light and bright but also its was just Asian food. Sorry but Asian food is just that. We've all had a version, Panda, Pei Wei, PF Chang, lets be honest it is what it is. This place is what it is as well. I will go back and try it again as the menu is vast and more things to try. But in general I will stick w the soup and try an appetizer bc they had several Appetizers that looked good. Over all I wasn't blown away, wasn't disappointed either. It's possible you may find a dish you love, again expansive menu leaves you wondering, just like when you eat Panda, I had the Kung Poa, should've had the orange chicken, that's the feeling it gave me. I'm so glad to see a Thai restaurant in Fairmount / Southside again! It's been a couple years since the one we had previously closed down. Now I have a go-to place (even with only 3 stars, more in a moment) for when I have a craving for Thai. Useful, especially, since I live just about a mile away! So, why only 3 stars? First, if I could rate 3.5, I would. Second, I think this seems to be the same as Thailicious over on Hulen near Central Market. The menu was very similar, as was the way the food was prepared and seasoned. If not, there's just a huge similarity, nothing to top my charts. I am a vegetarian (less than a year old in case you read older reviews and begin to wonder), so I ordered the Thai Basil entree with tofu. I'm also always interested in spring rolls so I got an order of 2. All was take-out. The dining area at 7:00pm-ish on a weeknight was fairly empty but tidy and clean. The staff were very attentive, and served me a glass of water while I waiting at a table for my order. An order, which, came ridiculously fast in my opinion. Like, 5 minutes it seemed. Just made me wonder how much is freshly prepared v. pre-made. Getting home, I eagerly cracked open my food and got to chowing down. The spring rolls were really very blah - like they forgot to put in some of the veggies or even enough basil to give them that "ooh" fresh factor. Not bad, but not as good as I've had elsewhere. The Thai Basil (w/brown rice, which was a nice nutty variety) was very tasty. Triangular cuts of tofu and nicely cooked and flavored veggies. Just the right flavor - not to "basily," something I find an issue with others. Overall, as I said, good for my cravings when I don't want to venture farther than a mile or two. Yet, with tip (never sure if I should tip on take-out!), my bill came in at nearly $19. That's a huge dent for an appetizer and an entree. So, I'll be pinching pennies for next time. read more

I had lunch here with a friend. Service was good and the staff pleasant. They checked in often enough to be helpful but not interrupt the conversation. I had the PaNang Curry, with chicken, spice level 2. The sauce was excellent. However, the slices of chicken breast seemed overcooked and dry. My friend ordered the Three Mushrooms dish, also with chicken, that seemed off to her as well. The spring rolls and salads were lovely and the peanut sauce excellent. This place is great. This is my go to for Thai. I've had the duck curry, the massaman curry, and the crab fried rice. As far as appetizers I've had the calamari,egg rolls, bamboo shrimp and fish cakes. I really liked everything except for the fish cakes, which I think was due to the consistency that I was not expecting. After doing some research I've found that fish cakes/balls usually have the consistency that the ones at spice have. Overall great restaurant and customer service with quality food for a price that's comparable to other Thai restaurants in town. read more

Quick read: Expensive for what you get and poor service. Skip this one. Details: I had high hopes for this location, per their snazzy Magnolia location and full bar, but keep going back and being disappointed. I've been several times now, and today my lunch buddy and I said never again. Our lunch today was so bad that it was comical: - The iced tea had a severe mildewy taste, we asked to change it out for a soda. (They apparently aren't cleaning the urns and faucet parts correctly.) - The people who sat next to us, after us, got their food first, finished their whole meal, and we were still waiting. We asked for our lunch and they brought it out. It was room-temperature, obviously having sat out for the last 30 minutes or so. - My portions were tiny. There were only three pieces of pork in my tiny cup of red curry, and a half-assed scoop of brown rice on the side left me with a growling tummy. I asked for 5 spicy and got like a 2. Although I asked for pork, I think the three pieces were really chicken. I asked our waiter if it was pork and he said "yes" as he turned his back to me. We never saw him again. - It's expensive for what you get. The lunch "deal" and a softdrink runs $13 plus tip. - We had to flag down someone every time for a refill or to ask for the next phase of our meal or check. Finally, a woman who wasn't our waiter, sloppily and hurriedly dropped our ticket while she was rudely talking to someone else on the phone. I finally caught her attention a few minutes later, trying to tell someone about our terrible experience, I asked her "Are you the manager?" Real bad service! We came got out drinks and one appetizer. 25-30 minutes we waited on our table and no one came to check on us to see if we wanted to order, we had to ask them for a manager or supervisor. Once someone came I said "we been ready to order for 25 minutes" she said oh do you want to take to go, I said no we came to dine in with my family, she said oh then what do you want to do.
