Yelp always comes through with some great recommendations and Spiced Black happens to be one of them. I was in the area running some errands and a quick search on the app allowed me to discover this spot. It also happens to be a black owned restaurant. The staff were very welcoming as soon as I walked in. The young lady at the register took her time to explain how the items on the menu and add-ons worked. I ordered the Mango Caribbean Jerk salad bowl for lunch. It was a flavorful combination of avocados, crisp plantain chips, mixed greens, mango salsa and a house made vinaigrette dressing. You have the option to add a protein and I chose chicken. I also added some charred Okra to top it off. This was a filling salad bowl with flavors that paired well together. When I think of jerk seasoning, I automatically think spicy. But this was more of a mild essence of jerk flavor and worked well for a light lunch. I had a sweet tooth so I ordered the banana rum cake for dessert. It was pretty good. Overall, I had a great experience at Spiced Black and I plan to return whenever close by.

My bowl was super yummy. I got the mango jerk and added pineapple rice. I should've went with the brown rice because it got super sweet because of the mango salsa. A lot of avocado which was fine because I have been forcing myself to like it. I wish the salmon was a little bigger but it was seasoned well. The decor is great too, I definetly will be back for a tshirt.

This was my second time visiting this restaurant. I created my own bowl with half red rice / Jollof rice, etoufee sauce, half grilled chicken / shrimp, charred broccoli, red onions, green onions, and carrots. Customer service was excellent and every one was so friendly. I was in and out in less than 5 minutes. The cost is a bit high - $19 for my bowl... but it was well worth the price. Ithe portion sizes are great! I was able to split my bowl into 2 meals. I will come back for sure again.

Bowl was so good I had to run it back! Yellow rice, salmon, greens, sweet potatoes and beets! With a side of BBQ chickpeas. My husband even asked me to get him my bowl this evening. They were out of the grilled oyster mushrooms! That was one of the main reasons I came back!! Coming off my juice cleanse and not feeling like cooking, Spiced Black is really making it easy for me. I opted for a salad bowl this evening and the ingredients were fresh and delicious! They didn't have cucumbers but I had some at home that I cut up and added to my salad. Portions were enough for me to have 3 salads lol Appreciated the veggie and vegan options! Will definitely be a go to for us! Happy Yelping!

(3.5 stars) This was pretty good I definitely love the concept...but I didn't like the rice. I got the Spicy tomato Jollof (minus the pickled habaneros) with grilled chicken and mushrooms (1/2 & 1/2 protein). The flavors and spice was good, but the rice was just too wet for me. And it wasn't wet because of the sauce...I could tell it was wet before they even served it in my bowl. And on top of that, there's a spicy tomato sauce that goes on the bowl, so then it was just swimming lol I've only had authentic jollof rice once and it wasn't wet like that. I dunno what's traditional for jollof, but in general, I don't like wet rice. The mushrooms also had a really weird texture. They were way too chewy...I kept chewing and chewing and chewing and eventually just spit them out. So that was a disappointment. The plantain was good and like I like them--warm, sticky and sweet (pause). The grilled chicken was good, too. Sort of reminded me of the grilled teriyaki chicken that you get at a mall food court But like I said, the flavors were good. The portion size is honestly ridiculous lol I could only eat half my bowl, and I had to push to get that down. Customer service was also great--two young ladies at the front who greeted me with a smile, offered me samples, asked about my day, etc. I felt cared for walking out.

Spiced Black never disappoints. It is my go to spot whenever I am in the Largo area. I always order the Caribbean mango jerk salad with barbecue chicken and plantain chips. Since I do not like avocado, I ask for extra mango salsa. Trust me, you will not be disappointed. Whenever I want a healthy option that still tastes incredible, Spiced Black is the first place that comes to mind. The flavors and spices are unmatched, and for the price you get a generous portion. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and the restaurant is clean with great aesthetics. I love this place for the culture and will continue supporting.

Conceptually unique! I never thought I'd come across a place like this. Usually with places like this, you have to try it a second time to figure out what is best to you. However, I didn't experience that. I had a modified BBQ Southern Bowl and I would re-order it again in a heartbeat. The bowl did look a bit iffy but all the flavors were coming together beautifully. I could do without the cornbread croutons. This place is definitely not something I would get daily or even weekly as I felt like I'd become unhealthy if I did. Let's hope the next time I go is just as good as the first!

Hubby and I tried this space together. The gentleman pictured serving here was so happy that we came and he mentioned it a few times. That was the highlight of the visit. The customer service was amazing and they wanted you to know that they were privileged for our service. I love that! It was a nice spin on Cava/Chipotle meets Soulaan. I was pleased with the habanero peppers and the flavors. Try it out!

I went to spiced black today looking for something fresh and flavorful and thats what I got, I did a build your own bowl with curly kale as my base- bbq chickpeas as my protein, and my 3 toppings I selected were charred broccoli, sweet potato, and mango salsa , and then spring-green onion , with the curry coconut dressing the bbq chickpeas were sweet and mild with a nice vinegary undertone, the mango salsa was fresh with the jalapeños and red onion adding some heat and the red bell pepper adding brightness, the charred broccoli firm and flavorful and not giving off a flavor that was burnt but actually charred the sweet potatoes were warm and creamy, the kale crunchy and the coconut curry vinaigrette really brought it altogether my only critique is upon reviewing my receipt and I could be wrong but there seemed to be an upcharge of $2 for choosing bbq chickpeas as my protein, something I thought would be included especially considering that it wasn't a speciality meat or anything like that but otherwise a very enjoyable bite and I would go again

My God tuhdayy! That. Was. Amazing! Today was the first time I've experienced this gem. The service was excellent. Very detailed and attentive. I selected the pineapple, coconut curry rice bowl and I added plantain and grilled shrimp- no cashews. The tropical fruit punch, which is all natural and sweetened with agave is so so good. I got a banana rum cake, but I can't go near it yet. I will be scratching at the door to come back! Next time, I will wear elastic pants.

Had to stop in and try. After watching people come out with bags of goodness, I knew I was in the right place. The food is fresh and presented nicely. Orders are assembled quickly and the staff is friendly and welcoming. Ambiance is mellow with a cool vibe of music, Not loud inside and conversations between staff and customers makes for a very pleasant healthy meal experience. An order of Cajun Jambalaya Étouffée Bowl with half chicken and half seafood (shrimp) and their Mango Caribbean Jerk Salad with grilled salmon were great starters for my first visit!

Flavorful, custom made bowl with tasty ingredients. My bowl consisted of the following: jollof rice and pineapple coconut rice, sofrito and spicy tomato sauce, bbq chickpeas, mango salsa, charred okra and broccoli and the citrus and jerk vinaigrettes on the side. Everything that was platted onto the bowl was deliciously tasteful. The spices were there! I actually preferred the jerk vinaigrette dressing over the citrus vinaigrette, but honestly, the bowl is flavorful enough alone that you could do without the dressing. The service was quick and efficient. The associates greeted me upon walking in and made sure that I was taken cared of. It was a great experience and I will definitely check in again to try more of their tasty foods.

This place is a hidden gem. I just found out about this place last week and while in the area I made sure to give it a try. All I can say is Wow this place is nice and the workers were very helpful. The guy behind the counter said this place was similar to Chipotle. That was a very wrong statement because this place far exceeds Chipotle. The choices had me in Awe. There were so many things to choose from that he had to help me by explaining the choices. He filled my bowl and when I got to the register the cashier was also helpful in making sure I had everything I needed then some. To explain why this place deserves a 10 out of 10 is when I got home with the food it was so good that I was impressed by the freshness and seasoning of the food. I live an hour away but I will for sure return on a weekend. Not sure if this place is family owned or franchised but there are other cities that will be perfect for this place. Let me start by saying the restaurant is refreshingly cute! The customer service is ten out of ten. The menu is clear and easy to understand. I chose to build my own bowl, and got yellow rice as my base with grilled shrimp and grilled chicken. The shrimp were seasoned lightly and grilled perfectly. The chicken was juice, tender, and packed so much flavor. I am a huge fan of yellow rice, so it was the first thing I tasted, and made sure to get it as a base in my bowl. I was also able to taste the different sauces that Spiced Black offers for their grain bowls. The spicy tomato was great ! They make their own juices in house and the one that I tried was the cucumber mint lemonade. It was good and reminded me of a refreshing pickle juice. Everything about this restaurant is five star. I'll be back soon, and my visits will be frequent. read more

Went in today for the first time last week and the food is delicious! I got the soul food bowl and the etoufee but I wanted to try everything. Looks like they are still figuring out their groove. I think there should be a better line process. I ordered the Cajun jambalaya and went with the protein recommendation of 1/2 shrimp and chicken sausage. I think the portion is incredibly small compared to what you get when you order the salmon or chicken. read more

The collards and the pineapple coconut rice are my all time favorites. They are super YUMMY and I also add the jerk vinaigrette to the rice which takes it to another level that will have you saying OMG!! I saw this place on a TikTok and it was described as a Black version of Cava. They were not wrong! Spiced Black has bowls and salads featuring flavors across the diaspora. The outside and inside decorations are also very African and African diaspora centered. They also make their own lemonade, tropical punch, and iced tea. I got the yellow rice & bean sofrito bowl with kale and mango salsa added. I also got the tropical punch and kale lemonade. My fiancé got the jollof rice bowl with kale and corn added. While we got signature bowls, you can make your own. The base is $12 and seafood is $6 extra while chicken is $4 I believe. Everything was delicious. We both left talking about coming back. The only thing that might annoy people is that I think the menu is shown on the TVs through an HDMI so sometimes the menu goes black and a screensaver pops up. But for that to be the only gripe, that's pretty damn good for a brand new eatery. This gives me hope for business development in PG! read more

I love that we have a healthy spot to go to in PG County. It's much needed and over due. I got the BBQ Southern Bowl. It was sooo good. The cornbread croutons are amazing and the bbq chicken was tender and delicious. I got mine in a bed of jollof rice instead of white rice. I personally didn't care for the cheddar cheese sauce but melted cheese isn't a personal preference of mine. I thought the greens were slightly salty. However, overall the bowl ate the perfect Sunday dinner all in one. The staff were amazing, nice, patient and informative. Very clean in the inside as well. I am so glad this restaurant is in PG County! The food is delicious and the atmosphere and customer service are amazing. I got the BBQ Southern Soul bowl, which was very hearty and had loads of flavor. The best part is that the food is healthy! The Tropical Fruit Punch was also delicious. I live almost an hour away but recently found out about the restaurant and was excited to try the food after reading the story of the owners. I love a creative restaurant and this restaurant is so needed. I got the Mango Caribbean Jerk and two BBQ Southern Soul (one with brown rice and the other with white rice). My man as a true Jamaican had this to say "Flavor, Flavor, AND MORE FLAVOR! Every bite of this food was like heaven for the taste buds. From the collard greens moist and juicy to the sweet potatoes cooked to perfection, and the rice so divine you would've thought it came from the finest of rice fields. Though my experience was rather enjoyable, I could not go without mentioning this two things I had a small issue with. First the cucumber lemonade was underwhelming as fresh as it was I just felt like it was missing something. Second my bowl cooled down too fast due to the cold item I had put on top. I ordered delivery via Uber Eats, paid the up charges for my shrimp, and the restaurant gave me chicken. When I called the restaurant, the woman on the phone said, "the front line guys must have messed up. Can you come in and pick up the correct order?" Which wasn't feasible because they are 20+ mins from me. The person I spoke with said the Manager would call, but they never did. So I wasted $50, on a meal, I couldn't eat. read more

A Great little surprise and welcome addition to our neighborhood! Great vegan options! Have been twice now. The young man enthusiastically explained the menu and shared recommendations. My second visit was with a new young lady who was not very enthusiastic and confident in providing recommendations. The food is phenomenal; I will return; would recommend making sure all staff are fully trained on food ingredients and are confident in explaining the menu. read more

Loved my visit here so much that I came back three times in a week. I am obsessed with their kale lemonade. Literally never had anything like it and I need it in my life permanently also. I kept coming back for the jollof bowl with the shrimp and spicy tomato sauce, and loved the okra as a side. Very new and innovative take on fast casual cuisine. I can't wait to see it expand and become (ideally) a nationwide franchise. read more

Hair found in food. Very dirty. Worker was hesitant when asked to change gloves. Maybe train your workers to properly handle food to avoid cross contamination and wear hairnets??? Never returning. Would not advise you either. read more

Amazing customer service, excellent selections, clean atmosphere, fresh ingredients, nice vibe, beautiful decor!!!!! I can't say enough great things about this place. I especially love the name. I feel like I can relate to it and it feels like home somehow. I got the pineapple coconut curry bowl with salmon and I really was thinking about going home to glory so I could smack my mama it was so good. I also tried the kale lemonade and the banana cake and both were spectacular. I am a hard critic when it comes to cake and this one was perfectly moist. I am so happy that there is a healthy alternative to soul food near me finally!! When I first went in this restaurant I could not make up my mind as to what I wanted because everything looked soo good. I ended up buying 2 bowls instead of one. I've been wanting to visit this restaurant for a while, and it did not disappoint! I stopped by during lunch, and it was busy, which was a great sign. It's a small, Black-owned spot with an inviting vibe and great food. The sweet tea was absolutely perfect--sweet, refreshing, and exactly what I needed.
