Hmmm......call it a crazy pizza craving, relief over surviving a near death experience....whatever you want to call it, I really liked their pizza! After having survived the elements at the Redskins/Chiefs game (Go Chiefs!), and being in a car accident on the way from said game (slow down, people!) all I wanted was to go home, take a hot bath to thaw out, light a fire, and curl up in my PJs. But some guy at the stadium just HAD to get a pizza and eat it beside me, and the smell got my stomach saying "OK, you can curl up in your PJs AND have a pizza". So I had to stop on the way home to get a fix. At first, I called George's, thinking I'd stick with something tried and true, since I know I like their pizza, but nobody answered the phone.....I don't know if they closed due to the weather, but it was locked up tight. So I walked into Spizzico instead, checked out their menu, and chose "The Works" pizza, which was a NY style pizza with pepperoni, sausage, mushrooms, peppers, and onions. A 12" pizza came to around $14 and some change, I paid, got my order number, and sat at one of the tables to wait for them to fix it, which took about 15 minutes. Having read one review on here that referred to their pizza as "gas station pizza", I wasn't sure what to expect, but the smell coming from the box was amazing. Once i got it home and took that first bite, I was quite impressed....and I'd REALLY like to know where that gas station is that serves pizza like this! There wasn't a whole lot of meat, but also considering that it's thin crust, it wouldn't support TOO much meat, but there was enough to give it a great flavor. I ended up eating half of the pizza standing in my kitchen before I even headed upstairs for that hot bath. And I never did make it to the fireplace, my bed was just looking SOOOO comfy! Oh well.....good pizza, early to bed, and a Chiefs win. Overall, not a bad day! read more

Pizza is such a personalized taste so you really have to take a lot of reviews (particularly negative reviews) with a grain of salt. For example, many people love Squisito's. I'm not a fan. My go to pizza place is Roccos for a point of reference. Last night we had the fennel sausage with broccoli rabe and smoked mozzarella. This was supposed to be a white pizza but low and behold, they used red sauce. The crust was really good, thin and firm - New York style, which is my preference. The toppings were perfect. Proper amounts of meat, veggies, and cheese. They were flavorful and worked well together. What was missing was the white sauce. The household was split on the overall experience. We phoned the order in the kid didn't know what broccoli rabe was and he had to be told that it was on their menu, even had to spell it! Spizzico, if you read this, you really need to teach your employees what you serve. IF the sauce was correct (and good) I would have given this place 4 stars. But they served us a pizza we didn't order, so I have to take 1 away. I may go back and try something else, I may not. This is why it is critical for restaurants to get it right the first time. I'm not sure why this place only has 3 stars. The pizza is the best in town (ny style coming for a ny transplant. Best deep dish is Rocco's). The pasta dishes have been nice. The sandwiches are nice (the veggie is a delicious vegetarian option). The waits aren't bad at all for takeout. There is a lot to like and judging by the business they do, more people agree with me than the naysayers here on yelp. The guys at the counter are really friendly when you go in. My family have been loyal customers since they opened. My wife has celiac's disease, and she really appreciates the options for her diet. For the last several years they have been our go to place for both of my children's birthday parties, buying ten pizzas twice a year. It had become our corner pizza joint, randomly stopping in with the kids for a quick affordable meal. Sadly, tonight was our last visit. They got rid of their real soda. Let me tell you the reasons this stubborn customer is angry about their switch to Stubborn Soda. 1. No zero calorie option. The reason I can eat at my corner pizza joint guilt free is because I count my calories. Part of that involves not drinking my calories. I don't want a "low calorie" soft drink. I want a zero calorie soft drink. I drink nothing but water at home, so when I go out to a restaurant I expect either Diet Pepsi, Diet Coke, or preferably Coke Zero. I settled on a bottle they had under the counter, which meant I Iost the free refill option at a higher price. 2. Sugar cane. When I see the words "free trade sugar cane" all I hear is, "we hate American corn farmers". Not only are they not supporting American agriculture, but Spizzico is supporting the importation of cane sugar. Cane sugar is terrible for the environment, and importing it over American crops means a much higher carbon footprint. Why would Spizzico purposefully contribute further to global warming? 3. Corporations. Even if the cane sugar came from the US, it probably would have come from the giant Fanjul Bros conglomerate. Stubborn Soda isn't even some local craft soda. At least that would be a cute marketing point. Who doesn't enjoy eating or drinking some local creation? No, Stubborn Soda is made by Pepsi. So Spizzico is also now being dishonest to their customers and pretending that this new soda fountain is some special "craft brew". I am not anti-corporation by any means. After all, I drink Diet Coke. I just get disgusted when people lie about it. So unfortunately this one change means I will not be coming back any time soon. I do promise to peek my head in the door though on my way over to George's, in the hopes that I see a real soda fountain back in place. read more

This joint isn't Italian. First of all.... pizza in this area, you fall for it, think it's great... you're sorely mistaken. Listen: pizza isn't supposed to be greasy, but here it is. Know why: they use bad mozzarella and cheap oil. I've eaten here at least a dozen times to express my view. Not trying at all to write a bad review, but a realistic one. A good slice of pizza isn't greasy because real mozzarella doesn't throw grease and when you use good olive oil, it dredges to the base. I've ordered spizzico 3 times, I normally try to leave a review after I've visited a place a few times to ensure service/food quality. So the first 2 times were great. The first time, my realtor actually ordered lunch for me and my family for when we moved in (approximately 5 months ago). Everything was great, we had pizza, wings and salad! The second time I ordered pasta, it was also pretty tasty. This last time on Tuesday January 12th, I ordered lunch over the phone. Again, this is only my 3rd time eating here and 3nd time ordering for myself, so I had questions about the pasta options for the lunch special. Well whoever took my ordered was very rude. They acted like they didn't want to explain the pasta options and the little explanation that they provided still left me confused and not knowing much about the options. So I decided to play it safe and ordered the pasta lunch special, fettuccine Alfredo and added chicken and order some old way wings. Well when I got there this guy (I'm assuming this is who took my order) wasn't any more personable in person. So I still didn't say anything, I just took my food and got my drink and left. Well once I returned home, I ate my food, and shortly after I had extreme stomach pain, sweating profusely and it ultimately lead me to the bathroom. So needless to say I had food poisoning. This was all around not a great experience to say the least. The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because of the first 2 times, but I wish I could have left 2.5. read more

If you're looking for customer service, don't go to Spizzico's. They clearly have the C team working with the customers now. They mess up my order and instead of saying "we messed up, we will put your pizza in the oven immediately," I'm told, "we gave you the wrong one and it's gonna be about 45 minutes to get you a new one." They now have the attitude that they can do whatever they want since they are now the only Italian place in the near area. Horrible job!!!! read more

Good neighborhood Italian food at a fair price. We regularly go here as the food is consistently fresh, tasty and the staff is always friendly. They are also very philanthropic which makes it very easy to always support their business. Salads are generously portioned, entrée portions are almost 1 1/2 sized so modest level hungry leaves you with great leftovers! The pizza is very good and they have great specials regularly. Of note last time we ate in it was still BYO, but they are close to a great spirits purveyor so this can be taken care of if you need. Call ahead to order take out, especially on high demand days as they always are busy and with a bit of forethought you can get right through the line. read more

The reason for the two star rating is due to deception. The Gnocchi is described as being prepared with "fresh mozzarella". It was disappointing to get home and discover a lump of hard dried cheese laying on top. Secondly, when ordering, i asked if the mushrooms were fresh (not jarred or canned) and i was told yes, they use fresh mushrooms. Again, great disappointment to open the pizza box and see rubbery mushrooms stuck all in the cheese. If you are going to claim to use better ingredients, that is what is expected. If they would have answered truthfully, i would have ordered another topping for the pizza and asked that the inferior cheese be left out of the Gnocchi, or at the least, not looked forward to a nice fresh creamy mozzarella. read more

A great find. That distinctive wood-burning oven pizza flavor. Quality ingredients - like, artichokes that don't taste like they came out of a can and fresh soft ricotta. Super nice folks. I work in the area and have only been to Spizzico a couple of times. While looking through the menu in the TAKE OUT section - (I was taking out) , I was ushered by the cashier over to the DINE-IN section to order. He took my order and slid an order number to me, and I told him I was taking out to which he rolled his eyes and made a whining sound. This was disrespectful and undeserved considering he had ushered me over and never asked. I quietly mentioned this to him when there were no longer customers around us so as not to embarrass him as he did me in front of other customers. He apologized and admitted he was wrong.
