I understand that inflation has increased food prices, including in restaurants. I also understand that we paid $75 (inc tip) for, largely, glop: 1. Papaya salad - requested "mild" - the lowest of the four spiciness choices. It was NOT mild. But it didn't matter. I couldn't eat it anyway. I can't quite identify the problem but I suspect the papaya had soured and they tried to cover it up with spicy. Truly gross. 2. Pad See Ew -- seemingly a safe choice. But my husband could have done better at home -- and he can't cook! Paid $5 extra for more noodles, veg, and shrimp. Still barely made a typical serving. And....just glop. Have you ever craved specific dishes from different countries so you order to-go meals from a slew of restaurants all close in distance from each other? Just me? Anyways, after picking up some nigiri down the street, we swung by Spoon and Fork for some Pad See Eiw. I've never been here before so I had low expectations but was pleasantly surprised. The food was good, greens and veggies were seasoned and still crispy, but perfectly cooked, there was a good amount of beef to the dish, the overall smokey flavor was nice and it wasn't oily at all. My usual complaint about getting this dish is that it can be greasy or oily, where the food just had too much oil in the wok, but it was perfect. Ordered takeout. Green curry with chicken. Fried chicken wings. Pork meatballs. $50 + 20% tip totaling $60. We got home and opened our takeout and were extremely disappointed in the very small portion size of the fried chicken wing and pork meatball dishes. The green curry dish was the size we would expect given price. Instead of going straight to posting on Yelp thought it best to talk to the restaurant to see if there was a mistake. They confirmed that the size was correct and said that if we were not happy with the dishes we could bring them back. Unfortunately we live 15 miles away so returning the items was not a realistic option. We asked for some sort of refund and they said they could not give any refund unless the food was returned. I'm posting here to set other's expectations specifically for the wings and meatballs (as noted in recent Yelp reviews we read after the fact) that the portions are very small given the price. As shown in the pictures there were 5 wings (for $15) and 3 meatballs (for $12.50). For food quality of the green curry chicken was 3 stars. Meatballs and chicken wings were both dry so giving those 2 stars. Size of wings and meatballs 1 star given price. The most recent reviews also had feedback on portion size. Though we all understand that the pandemic caused food prices and service costs to rise this may be a bit too much for these specific items. read more

Food: The food is always good here. The Pad Thai is authentic and uses chives. The restaurant does only a handful of dishes but they do them right. I haven't had a dish that is bad there. Ambience: The restaurant has a to-go vibe to mimic how restaurants in Thailand are for locals. A lot of nice outside seating and great on a sunny day. Small parking lot but there is always parking. Staff: friendly staff Price: The price is far for the portions given. Not too much food but also not too expensive like most restaurants. Summary: great place to grab a quick authentic Thai food done correctly and deliciously. Ordered pad kee mao w/ chicken and kor moo yang to-go and it didn't help that they package your food in cardboard containers and a paper bag.. the oil leaked through both. Wasn't really digging it bc it didn't feel like I was eating chicken. Tasted decent, nothing standout about it, but the spice level (I got spicy) was on point! I expected more veggies, but understand that different Thai places make it differently. Overall a pretty pricy basic drunken noodle that could be improved, IMO. Kor moo yang ($12)-- Went with other yelpers' recommendation of this pork neck dish that I've never had before. The dipping sauce and the meat itself was good, but omg the amount of oil threw me off. Each piece was super shiny and saturated with oil. So much that the oil pooled to the corner of the container as well as seeped through to the paper bag. Not sure if kor moo yang is meant to be like that since it was my first time, but it wasn't very appetizing after a while, especially paired with my already oily pad kee mao. Probably better with rice. It was also a little pricy for just the sliced up meat. Place was cute, had a bunch of tables indoor and out. You order at the counter and are given a number. Legit Thai food in Belmont?! Ok, so I was weary. Like really weary. It's disappointing that some ethnic places tone down the flavors for the masses. Some fish sauce funk never hurt anyone! Just don't get any on you though. I once spilled some on my clothes because I'm a messy slob... For the rest of the day, I got the stank eye for smelling like tuna twat. Grand opening last weekend, Spoon & Fork is a new fast casual Thai eatery in the former PDX/American Fare location. When I was waiting to order at Spoon & Fork, I overheard the lady in front of me tell the cashier that her Thai neighbor recommended this place. Good sign. At the time, all the customers were AZN. Another good sign. For the grand opening, Spoon & Fork is offering 20% off your entire bill which is a sweet deal. The cashier should mention this to each customer so they're more understanding of operational kinks (I only found out when I checked my email and saw the receipt). It's unfortunate that Spoon & Fork, a brand new small business is getting harsh reviews on Yelp especially when there's limited food options in the area but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. The menu is small and focused with 16 items on the menu but it includes the Thai essentials: Tom Yum, Curry (red + green), Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, Pad Kee Mao, etc. No Khao Man Gai, chicken rice though, maybe in the future? Everything is under $15 with most items being $12. Vegetarian friendly. Brown rice is available. Complimentary water and water with lemon is available. I was excited for the Hat Yai Chicken Wings which you don't find at most Thai restaurants. Sadly, they weren't available until dinner. We ended to ordering the following (served in eco-friendly compostable bowls): * Koh Moo Yang: Marinated grilled pork neck ($12): https://bit.ly/2JmHf6u. This is must for me at any Thai restaurant - this well marbled cut is deliciously rich and flavorful with smoky, caramelized edges when done right: https://bit.ly/2KQb2aT. Spoon & Fork's rendition hit all those notes. The salty-sour-spicy jaew dipping sauce perfectly cut through the richness of the moo yang. The only negative: it's a very small portion. I usually pay the same price in SF and the portion is at least 50% more. * Pad See Ew: Pan fried flat rice noodles, egg, Chinese broccoli, dark soy ($12): https://bit.ly/2XeMtuS. A Chinese influenced dish, the pad see ew here was solid - savory sweet with crisp chinese broccoli, soft ribbons of egg, and plentiful slices of lean, tender pork. The thick rice noodles were nicely separated, not clumpy or broken. Could have used more smoky char (wok hei) from the wok though. * Sweet Basil Chicken: Stir fried garlic + chili, ground chicken, green beans, fresno peppers, sweet basil ($12 + $2 egg + $.50 brown rice): https://bit.ly/2Xgs6bM . Flavorful with crisp red bell pepper and fragrant basil. The runny yolk created a nice sauce over the ground chicken. Just a preference, I prefer ground chicken thighs over chicken breast as it dries out easily. The brown rice was properly cooked with a nice chewy texture. A suggestion to the owner: For the rice/noodle and stir-fry dishes, it would nice if customers had the option to choose their own protein from the ones you offer: chicken, beef, pork. For hawt food feens, I was happy they had a condiment station with jalapeño vinegar, sambal, Thai chili powder, and Thai bird chili fish sauce. Service was really friendly. Order at the counter, you're given a number placard, and you seat yourself. Food is cooked to order. It took about 15 minutes to receive our entire order. The cashier brings out a dish as its ready so unless you do family style, don't expect everyone to be eating at the same exact time. There's no trash bins out so they clear your table for you. Modern, minimalist dining area with 18 seats inside and a partially enclosed dog friendly front patio with additional 16 seats. They have their own private parking lot so parking is a breeze. Overall, tasty Thai food just like you would find in the SF. 4 stars for the food and adding an extra star because Belmont has very limited dining options and for the dog friendly outdoor seating. read more

This place was empty when I was there and was thinking how long they can last as many restaurant owners prior to this place all closed down. The lady who took my order was very friendly. The menu selection is somewhat limited and they don't have pictures to show you what the items look like which made it somewhat difficult to order. Nevertheless I ordered some takeout and was not impressed at all. Their pad Thai was not flavorful and the noodle was soggy. The green curry was mixed and soaked in with my white rice which made it tasted like rice porridge. They should separate the rice with curry. The curry tasted bland and it could be due to mixing in with the rice. Lastly, the portion size was quite small. There are lots of improvements in order to attract more business. read more

I'm going to call this a hidden gem on the well traveled El Camino Real, technically in Belmont and bordering San Carlos. Their parking lot is well sized for a restaurant that is essentially for take out. As we return to more normal times and indoor dining is allowed, they do have limited indoor seating. I've had takeout here twice in the last month and their quality and consistency has been spot on. I've ordered the Sweet Basil with Chicken entree (stir fried minced garlic and chili with ground chicken, red bell peppers, sweet basil)on both occasions. I've also had a good sized sample of their Pad Kee Mao with Chicken(pan fried flat noodles with ground chicken, minced chili, garlic, tomato, onions, sweet basil) and I can also say this a top tier Pad Kee Mao along with their Sweet Basil Chicken. The Mango Sticky Rice dessert was average, as the rice was nearly a solid ball or rice). Grain separation with a firmer texture would have been nice. The mango bits were small cubes and not slices. Service has been friendly and straightforward. I can now happily say I have a local Thai spot I absolutely will crave. read more

I decided to try their Pad Kee Mao with chicken(pan fried flat rice noodles with ground chicken, stir fried with chili, garlic, onions, sweet basil), the Tom Yum Goong Soup(spicy sour soup with shrimp, mushrooms, tomatoes), and finished my meal off with their Mango Sticky Rice dessert. I would highly recommend the Pad Kee Mao and their Tom Yung Goong soup if these dishes sound delicious to you. The Mango Sticky Rice was just average(sticky rice was mushy and almost like a solid ball of rice) but was only $6. They have a parking lot and they are really setup for takeout(pandemic or not). They're located on busy El Camino Real in Belmont, and so far this is a great Thai restaurant and I will surely be back soon. read more

If you're going for this specifically (which I was), Rin Tei in San Mateo is a better bet. Super delicious Thai carryout in Belmont! The dishes are a little more expensive than at other places, but it's actually a better value. Large quantity of high quality meat in the Beef & String beans. The Green Curry Chicken had crazy delicious sauce; we used all the sauce over a few days with rice - days of yumminess! Basil Chicken had a very authentic Thai flavor (without being overly sweet) and lots of ground chicken, we are going to get this again! Pad See Ew was also delicious.
