Probably wouldn't have chosen it, but that's where the girls voted to eat. Used to eat there many years ago. The decor is exactly like it was back then. And not in a good way. The foyer gives off a terrible first impression with its peeling wallpaper and '70's cutesy country vibe. The rest off the place makes me feel kinda dusty. Besides that, I was pleasantly surprised at the food. The catfish plate was quite good. Three decent fillets (tasty), beans (pretty good), coleslaw (I dunno, I hate coleslaw), fries (hot and fresh), and hush puppies (the star of the meal!). Not bad for $8.95. Service was okay. Went here for lunch with the hubby after a morning of doctors appointments and such. They have an all you can eat lunch buffet and the hubster likes a challenge so we went with that. They had fried catfish, hush puppies, fried some other type of fish, fried okra, fried gizzards and onion rings on the buffet. Hubby loved the gizzards, said they were some of the most tender he's had. I didn't love anything they had out. The closest thing to like was the onion rings. The Mac and cheese tasted watery, the green beans were cold and flavorless. The catfish had this hard breading with zero flavor. Hubby was happy with the gizzards and the banana pudding and yes he too liked the onion rings. I put up with their can fresh pinto beans and picnic style garbage inducing dinner wear because they are that good. They could sure use a style consultant but press on with their faithful following. The reason for the 2 star rating is not because of the food good price for what you get. But the DUST is overwhelming and the restaurant is NOT clean. I was really surprised that the food permit posted at the front expired Feb 25 2015 and the owner has not posted the new one. They have a please wait to be seated sign so that's what we did good that a guy that came in after us who was picking up an order to go let the ladies know we had been standing up front for a while, the three ladies where talking and standing around not paying any attention to who came in the restaurant the booth has food in between the sides and it looks like it's been their for a while the lady at the drink area needs to put on gloves when handling the ice and lemons she walked from behind the area and came back but never washed her hands. Springhill has been sitting in my bookmarks marked "To Review" forever. That should give you a clue about how I feel about it. The number one problem with Springhill is that it's mediocre to bad food for high prices. Don't get me wrong - there's a place for mediocre food when it's combined with fast and cheap, but when I pay $10 for a plate of food, it better be at least good if not great. For those of you raving about the fried catfish in a buffet line, what is wrong with you? I hate to say it, but fried catfish does NOT belong on a buffet - it belongs on your plate right out of the fryer with the meat steaming when you crack it open. There's no other way and I won't budge on this. Now if you want to charge Long John Silver's prices then maybe we can have a discussion... I agree with the other reviewer who mentioned the styrofoam plates and cups as well as the plasticware. What? Am I at a family reunion? I'm not exactly a tree hugger, but this just reminds me of the scene in Mad Men when they get done with their picnic and just leave the trash on the ground. We laugh at that shiz now, but back in the day it was totally accepted. Styrofoam is so 1999. Get a freaking dishwasher. Bottom line: like it or not, your price sets a certain expectation for the food you serve and the experience you provide. 3-5 years ago when it took a herculean effort to get out of PF and get into Austin this was probably fine, but with the new toll roads and the increasing number of good restaurants in Round Rock we shouldn't have to put up with mediocrity at high prices anymore in PF (Cough, CHARLIE'S, Cough!) If you're with some buddies and they say, "Let's go to Springhill," then fine. You have to pick your culinary battles. But if you're calling the shots and you think, "Man, I really crave mediocre seafood at ridiculous prices!" then at least get thee to Red Lobster because you can always blame it on the Cheese Biscuits, which is very respectable in my book. read more

First off, service is wow...spectacular. Not only did we have a group of 20, we were all fed in under an hour. That is some crazy good service. Also, the waitress totally let me tape a remote-controlled fart machine under my coworker's chair (his going-away party) and assisted us with the gag. Bravissimo! The gag was pulled off without a hitch, our bellies were ridiculously full, but yea..my tab was higher than expected. For a "small" seafood platter of catfish nuggets and shrimp (substituted oysters) plus an iced tea? I came out paying $15. Yoww.. All in all...man everything is fried (but freakin tasty), the portions are ginormous, service great, ambiance cute/rustic, but it's in pfreaking pflugerville. I have eaten at Springhill Catfish Resturant for over 30 years..... But will NEVER RETURN. One bad experience is all it takes. The hostess with some strange tattoo on her right leg sat me at a table that was so disgusting sticky, I asked the waitress to feel it. Her response was " it's always like that" but I can move you to another table. I said yes- which one is clean? She felt her hand over another table ans said " this one is clean". By this time my appetite was gone but I had already ordered. I noticed the tattood hostess take the food/ plates off the table in front of me and assume took the tip with her but didn't wipe down the table..... This explains a lot. They have buckets with water and wash cloth but I'm guessing its for show when health department comes. Yuke- the place has gone down and is nasty! Will travel all the way south to Cherry creek catfish on manchaca so I can eat without worrying if tables clean ( they clean after EVERY meal) and not worry if they don't clean tables .... Walking in, all I could smell was cleaning chemical. It could be worse, but so not appetizing. The upsides: Tasty sweet tea and friendly service. For $35 we got: - a basket of hush puppies (from the freezer) - chicken fried steak (salty, ashy) - fried okra (decent) - mashed potatoes covered in white gravy (neither was fresh) - chicken fried chicken (he says Delicious) - French fries (cold, smooshy, flavorless) - a glass of sweet tea (Very sweet, but tasty) Everything except the entrees is served in/on Styrofoam, and comes out feeling limp like its been waiting on a counter. Everything is nice and crispy with good taste (especially the chicken fingers). They have a lunch Buffett between 11-2 pm for $11.99 (includes a drink w/ refills) with all your favorite sides. Expect the fish to be a little chewy - that's normal because it's catfish. Good tea and for dessert they have Banana pudding. Ambiance is friendly with country feel. Cute place. Waitresses are great. Each time I've been here I get fast and very friendly service. Food is a bit greasy and low quality but it's priced accordingly. They have a buffet if you are in a hurry. It has a pretty good salad bar. You can see from the photo that it has a casual Texas decor. Hello all, I tried Springhill for the first time 08/06/2019 for the lunch buffet. It cost 16.11 with drink. Probably taxed. So, this review is for the buffet. As some of the reviews stated, there is a lot of fried food and gave it a bad rating because if that. They did have steamed Broccoli. It was OK. I do not think many people eat it, so it probably sat there for a while. I sat by the buffet and did not see anyone getting the Broccoli. The Onion Rings Are Great. Mashed potatoes and White Gravy are good. The fried Catfish strips are very good, the best I have had in the Austin area. They have a small salad fruit bar. The cantaloupe was OK. Needed to ripen 2-3 days more. Hard to control that. Hush puppies were good. Tartar sauce was good. Service was excellent. They had beans, Mac and Cheese, yellow and Zucchini squash with onions, Baked Chicken, and french fries. I know they had something else but cannot remember. I will try yellow and Zucchini squash next time. Not sure how Springhill got rating of 3. Trip advisor gives it a 4, Grub hub 4.5, face book 4.4, trip advisor 4, and google 4.3. Check out Yelp's monthly rating for 2019 by clicking details by the rating stars. Much better than a 3. Some say that it was too heavy should eat on Sunday, so gave it a 2. Other complained about styrofoam cups and plates and gave it a 2. I did not eat those so I do not know. Another gave it a 3. She said "The food is really tasty..." , "The french fries are fabulous, the cole slaw is always sweet and yummy too. The peach cobbler is great", and "All in all, we always come back for more!" They only complained about the price. I would not eat there except for the buffet due to the price. Others complained about the price too. Even the ALL YOU Can eat buffet for $16.11. We like Springhill and consider it a solid choice. The food is really tasty, although a bit overpriced for eating on Styrofoam. The ambience is laid back, albeit a bit dated. We usually go when we get a coupon from the Community Impact paper. They tend to place a bogo for a specific meal, good only when you purchase an app or 2 soft drinks. We stick to the fried foods here. The onion rings are fabulous (although they serve them on a metal paper towel holder...odd). The french fries are fabulous, the cole slaw is always sweet and yummy too. The peach cobbler is great, but on the small side and they do charge extra for the small scoop of icecream that is a neccesary addition, in my opinion. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but we live nearby. We prefer Catfish Parlour, as it is comporable in price, offers larger portions, free kids meals for toddlers and real plates. That said, it is a drive for us, so Springhill is a nice substitute. All in all, we always come back for more! read more

Used to be one of our Friday night pick up spots almost every weekend. However, I believe they changed owners a little while back or just went downhill. The servers are all still great but quality of food went down. Sampler platter(my fav) used to fill the take out box up and the mozzarella sticks were thick and awesome. Now I get half a box of food. Not really anywhere else that I know I can get this combination platter so we still go occasionally hoping it got better. Still disappointed...... read more

My mom saw this place when we were coming back from voting the other day. We looked it up on Yelp and liked the pictures. We both got the shrimp, and it was very tasty. The jumbo shrimp really were jumbo. We liked that we could have extra huhpuppies instead of the beans. It's nice how you can see the food on yelp because the beans didn't really look like the kind we like. We used to go to FD's up the road a lot when my dad was alive. He just passed away, and so we are in the mood to experiment. But we both like the shrimp here better. It's not that it's bad at FD's, but more spicy than we like. We enjoyed the hushpuppies better as well. I could be remembering wrong, but I think it maybe cost a slight bit more. We just liked it better. Also less crowded. Not as fancy. If you are into fancy, the other is fancier. Anyway, we'll be back. Nice waitress too. read more

Went here for the first time today for their lunch buffet at the suggestion of the 'rents when we asked if they wanted to go to Catfish Parlour. We were a little skeptical, but decided to give it a go anyway. Holy cow! They have great catfish! I did miss that special kick the jalapeno catfish, but I think theirs overall was better - less greasy, and crispier (which is amazing on a buffet). I was actually shocked because I had prepped myself for some really awful food, especially after seeing the place outside. The mashed potatoes were absolutely delicious, the veggies and the salad bar provides a great contrast to cut the grease of the fried stuff and buttery taters, and as is always a question on buffet food, it didn't make me sick at all. However, not everything was great. The chicken strips were "meh", the fries weren't that great (they tasted like they'd been sitting there for a while), the coleslaw apparently was "just slightly above kfc quality", and if I would have paid for it, I think I might have been a little shellshocked. Definitely of note - I hate, hate, hate okra. Never met an okra that I didn't hate. I grabbed some fried okra which I thought was fried zuchinni, and then started going on about how it was pretty yummy. The family looked at me crazy and then told me what it was. Crazy! Also - I am not a big fan of hushpuppies, and these were actually something special. Definitely go, but see if you can get someone to pick up the tab. :) read more

I have a co-worker who has been harping on me to eat there for a while now. Went last Friday and it really didn't disappoint. We got there at about 5:30 PM and it was already fairly packed. Service was prompt and polite. The fried green tomatoes were absolutely perfect, and surprisingly the dish was more than enough for three people to split. I ordered the catfish basket with a couple of fried shrimp thrown in for good measure. The shrimp were flavorful yet almost too greasy, but the catfish was better than superb. I sampled the cole slaw and beans off of my co-workers plate and they were just average. Three of us split a slice of the chocolate mousse pie comfortably. It's a shame this is so far north from me. I'd love to go back and sample what else they have to offer. Prices are a tad bit steep but not discouraging. read more

Would highly recommend for the lunch buffet. Most of the better menu offerings are at the buffet including a salad bar. I've been a few times and more cost-effective to just do the buffet. Everything is seasoned well and cooked perfectly. I especially love the fried catfish. The only thing I realllllllly hate are the really flimsy, cheap foam cups they give you instead of real glasses, or even plastic drinkware. I'm so paranoid I'm going to grip it and have it explode all over me. The foam plates are also flimsy, so don't load up too much. You can take multiple trips to the buffet so there's no need to pile food up anyway. Overall, I like this dive and look forward to more catfish from the buffet. I had the Jumbo Shrimp dinner and Blackberry cobbler. The shrimp dinner was delicious but only reason I ordered was for the Blackberry Cobbler. Worst Blackberry Cobbler I've ever had in my life plus it was overpriced. I'm not the type of person to throw food away even if it's not tasty as I expected but the trash it went. It did not taste homemade. The filling tasted like it was from a can with no sugar. Anyone who makes Blackberry Cobbler knows it needs more sugar than Peach Cobbler due to tart flavor of the berries.
