Wonderful restaurant in southern part of Islamorada that is tucked away and hidden among boat storage but very popular place as the parking lot was full a little after opening at 5pm. Early arrives may have gone to the lounge upstairs but the dock seating was lovely during sunset and the fried calamari appetizer was really good! Of course, great service from Rob! I liked the special today with lychee-buttered yellowtail snapper but lots of other things to choose from on the menu, even steak. Definitely a favorite spot for many locals. FYI, If you can't find a parking spot under the boat storage are in front of the restaurant, you will have to park on the highway and walk in. read more

So so good! We ordered the fish dip to start which was so fresh and the edamame which was delicious but had a little too much sesame oil for my liking. The fish of the day was cooked to perfection on top of the Asian salad. My fiancé got the grouper with the capers and loved it. LOVE THIS PLACE. Highly recommend. Came during covid and it was still very busy with a wait. We arrived on a Saturday night around 6:30pm and were told it was a 30 min wait for 2 people. You can wait in the back by the railing looking at the water (table and bar stools) and enjoy drinks while you wait. Wait ended up only being 15-20 min! And they text you when the table is ready. Food was amazing. Loved the jalapeño watermelon margarita, flash fried conch appetizer, and the special of the night - panko crusted yellowtail with wild rice and vegetables (asparagus). All of it was amazing! My fiancé enjoyed the seafood combo with coconut shrimp. It was all so much food that we didn't have room for dessert. Maybe next time! Service was also very friendly. Best restaurant hands down in Islamorada. You may have a bit of a wait but the food is well worth it. It's tucked back in a Marina, and it gets very crowded and have to wait but it's a nice wait out back looking at the water. Everything we ordered was delicious and we ate there 3 times it was so good. The only negative thing I could say is my sweet potato fries were over salted for my own personal liking. We were driving down to Key West and noticed that it was almost lunch time. I remembered visiting the Square Grouper a long time ago and suggested we go there. I had really high expectations and after walking in got even more excited when the restaurant was packed and it had just opened. Here's what I ordered. Tito's Bloody Mary - Ever had a Bloody Mary so spicy it felt like it karate chopped you in the throat? Well that's exactly what I felt. Don't get me wrong- I love spicy, but this just wasn't enjoyable. I event waited for the ice to melt a little and it still didn't help. I love me a good Bloody Mary but this just wasn't it. Fish Dip - Another item that I love at most places. The waitress was kind enough to bring us not one, but three hot sauces. Tabasco, Cholula and another one that looked like it was a local hot sauce. It came beautifully garnished with chopped tomatoes, pickles and red onions... yet still wasn't that great. I found it to be pretty bland and added extra hot sauce. Square Grouper Sandwich - I had high hopes for this one. A complete monster of a sandwich. Crispy golden brown panko and a beautiful toasted bun... but a few bites in and I was unimpressed. Something was extra salty. I took a few bites of the grouper alone and that wasn't it. The grouper had a nice crunch. It may have been the bun... I thought to myself that they may have used salted butter on it. I will say the side of coleslaw was delicious. It's a really nice restaurant inside and the staff was attentive, quick and professional. I'd totally visit them again if I were in the area for drinks or try something else on their menu. read more

Looooong wait on a busy night. Second floor has a nice bar with lots of dining tables and chairs. Curious why all the tables were not utilized while there was staff standing around doing absolutely nothing. Do they not serve food up there? Why not seat those tables for dining when there is an hour and a half wait? There certainly appeared to be enough staff to handle it. Maybe "we don't want to overwhelm the kitchen"? If so, I've never understood that reasoning. I'd rather be seated, told there was a wait for food, and ordered drinks as opposed to hanging out in front of the hostess stand, getting in everyone's way. Ordered drinks to bring downstairs for the wait. Bartender made me feel as if I was inconveniencing him. Would have sat at the bar but we had minors in our party and we needed to return downstairs so we could hang around the hostess stand. Then there was the sign in the foyer that stated standing in the stairwell was not permitted and if you did, you'd be the very last party to be seated. Wow. Snarky. If standing in a stairwell is a fire hazard or involves some other safety issue, why not just say that? And if not a safety issue, why in the world would you post something like that? Post: "Go mill around the hostess stand." When we were finally seated, we enjoyed the food. However, the whole experience that let up to this just left me underwhelmed. I absolutely acknowledge it was my decision to stay and wait but I'm sure I'm not the only one asking these questions. Well, after avoiding this place for over two years do to the crowds, we ventured out to TSG. The evening was off the hook good! Amazing service from a wonderful young lady. Food nailed it! We were a table of 7, and all of us agreed best pLace in Islamorada. Not sure what was BETTER, the food or the service we received from everyone, specially from BRUCE, the Manager!!!!! We drove 70 miles to eat at this place and it was certainly worth it!!! Have made this drive several times and have never been disappointed. They refilled our drinks when glasses were not fully empty, removed empty plates the second we finished eating, food was delicious and came out quick, ambiance was amazing, restaurant and bathrooms were very clean and view of the canal and marina was very relaxing. Family trip to the keys and this was the best lunch we had of the trip. Sat on the back patio overlooking the harbor. The kids loved watching the boats being lunched. We were a party of 11. Great bartender for cocktails and beer selection. We went down stairs for dinner and sat. We waited 15 minutes for service then the hostess got us water and drinks. I got the prime rib that was 40% fat and overcooked. My wife got the chicken pops that were delicious. My cocktails were different from upstairs to downstairs. I believe our waitress knew she blew the beginning of service but never tried to make it up. We still tipped good because she probably needs it. Cool place but needs some corrections. Used to be my go to dinner spot. The owner that responds to the negative reviews tells you all that you need to know about this location. Go to the original Square Grouper in Cudjoe Key instead, skip this one. Management is horrible, wait staff is good, food was amazing in the first year and went completely downhill ever since. The original location is still great. Besides the dedicated waitstaff and the outside view, not much to say about this location. I haven't been back since May 2021. Too many other great restaurants in Islamorada, like Meze Morada. Wait for a table is impossible and not worth the wait, as it was for the first year after the Islamorada location opened. Loved the combo of chopped tomato, jalapeños and red onion it's served with. You can pretty much find smoked fish dip at ever restaurant from here to the keys and this one has been the best we've had so far! Beautiful spot for the Sunset! We love the upstairs lounge for pre-dinner cocktails and small bites. Our go-to drinks are the espresso martini and the Morada. Very nice place. Upstairs you can get a different menu than what's available on the ground floor. Get there early to enjoy the happy hour specials. Happy hour is from 4:20 to 6:00 pm daily. Cost is a bit high but the taste and quality is there for sure. That also give you a big portion. read more
