The biscuits with pimento cheese are an absolute must to get. Easily one of the best biscuits I've ever had, it was fluffy and melt in your mouth. My brother, his wife and my bf shared an order of oysters (I can't eat em unfortunately) and they thoroughly enjoyed it. My brother and his wife also shared the endive salad. For mains I got the butcher's steak, which comes brushed with garlic butter. It was juicy and cooked perfectly to a nice red medium. Also got some fingerling potatoes with ranch dressing which just is the perfect complement to the steak. My bf got the grilled portabella mushroom entrée which he enjoyed. A lovely casual neighborhood restaurant. The environment was inviting and bustling. My friend has been here several times, this was my first time and it did not disappoint for Sunday brunch. We had a reservation and we're quickly seated. Our waitress and runner were wonderful and provided great service. My friend recommended the biscuit board and the biscuits were out of this world!!! So good we both had one biscuit left to go to repurpose for breakfast in the morning lol. Pair this with a cappuccino and they're on to something!!! As a side I wanted vanilla in my cappuccino and they found a way (added vanilla paste-who knew that it would work). Anyway back to the food. After the biscuits we ordered our mains salmon collar, steak and eggs and blue crab deviled eggs. The salmon collar was a little bland and fyi it's cooked medium so if you want it well done request it. This is also not for the faint of heart if you don't want to pick out bones through the meal. The blue crab deviled eggs were my favorite. Well seasoned and balanced. Lastly the steak and eggs. The steak is a 4oz portion of grilled butcher's steak, sunny-side up eggs, béarnaise. The egg was over cooked as shown here. The potatoes had great seasoning. Overall this place had some hits and misses. I certainly will be back to try other dishes and drinks. Food = Fabulous, Service = Fantastic, and Atmosphere = Lively. We were lucky to come across this establishment. We had no reservations, but they graciously squeezed us in right away. The buttermilk biscuits were melt-in-your-mouth delicious and the oysters were delectable. The butcher's steak and ribeye were perfectly cooked and the duck pot pie was a yummy unique twist on "the usual." For our side, we had the pan-fried mashed potatoes which was tasty and due to an unexpected error in our fortunate favor, we were served the roasted sweet potato and wild mushrooms on accident. These accidental deliveries were delicious. Although they kindly comped these items, I would gladly pay for them as they were happily devoured. I took my family here for Mother's Day and they loved it. Most people got the omelette which is not pictured but they loved it. I got the steak and eggs which was very yummy as well. Steak cooked to perfection. The chicken sandwich was raved by my aunt! The game changer really was the French toast. We all wanted to try it but not as a main so we got it as an appetizer for the table. That blueberry blackberry compote on the French toast was so good you didn't even need syrup! I'm from a family of quality chefs and the biscuits were cooked to perfection (on both visits because we know how the cooks change from on day to the next and so can the recipe). We ordered Medium Rare for both. Split them in half and shared. I wasn't mad at the quality of the steak, but more so about the seasoning. I set my expectations high because of the appetizers. But it truly needed more salt. They both were cooked well but inside and out (even with the au poirve sauce on the NY strip, I could have used more salt and seasoning. (Side note: I went back for brunch and tried the butchers but and asked for more seasoning and they UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT) I understand some people can't have lots of salt for health reasons but seasoning or marinating in butter like the butchers cut, perhaps. Came here for an afternoon date hoping for a new, cool spot, but the places sort of missed on ambiance, food, and experience. They sat us on top of almost the only other occupied table away from the nicer decor and the food was only OK. We walked in deciding whether to sit inside or outside, but when I saw the cool British-style pub interior with accents like deer antler tap-pulls, we asked to be seated inside. Instead of seating us near the interesting and cool decor, they put us at a two person table in the furthest corner from the decor and immediately next to one of the only other occupied tables in the whole restaurant. We thought about complaining, but decided to roll with it because the food was supposed to be good. My wife got the steak and eggs because she loves steak and eggs and the steak was supposed to be fantastic. The steak was apparently very good, but also very small. Small enough that I didn't get any of it. Next time we'll probably just get the steak. The eggs were good and the potatoes were also yummy, but it would have been a lot better with a bit healthier portion of steak. I got the blue crab deviled eggs and the salmon collar. The blue crab deviled eggs were just disappointing. The eggs were under seasoned and the blue crab didn't add much. I didn't even wind up finishing them. The salmon collar was better, but still underwhelming. It was slightly undercooked on the inside, which might be how most people prefer it, but I have my doubts. An amazing meal ! Cool dinner plates, excellent ambiance, and great service by John. We sat in a booth which added to the charm.was surprised at the crowd on a weekday. Wow. Have to put this in the rotation. We started with the baked oysters. They were delicious. Then salads- mine was an upgraded and glorified wedge salad (butter lettuce instead of iceberg) topped with the most amazing piece of bacon I have ever had in my life. Thick cut. Flavor. Yummy! The blue cheese dressing was light but the chopped hard boiled eggs added substance. It was so large I saved half for lunch the next day. My friend had the burrata and I loved the fresh figs and hazelnuts in it. Of course the cheese was incredible too! Then we split the ax handle ribeye and the salmon collar with a side of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. The ribeye was right out of the Flintstones! They only had one size left so we did it. It was huge and delicious. It was a tad undercooked so we nervously and reluctantly returned it for another millisecond more of heat. It came back perfect! It was charred in the outside and medium rare in the inside. They served it sliced. When I asked to pack it for leftovers I specifically requested the bone too! I couldn't wait to naw on it and I wasn't going to do it in public! The salmon collar was also a signature and fantastic dish. The fish had a great textured outside. Loved it. I used the leftovers the next morning in a bagel with scallion cream cheese, onion and capers. Got to enjoy it twice! The mashed potatoes were like a very, very thick pancake. I love the Union Marker area. As many times as I've been there, I never knew this spot was there. I love the decor and the booths. WOW. I will start by saying I was simply amazed by St. Anselm. I dined in for a solo-meal and was able to immediately snag a seat at the bar where I was greeted quickly by an awesome bartender. I'm neither a big meat fan much less a steak fan, but my dinner here was amazing! Highly recommend for a nice occasion! St. Anselm has an interesting vibe. There is dim lighting, it's giving... fancy local tavern. There's a bar in the center as you walk in if you want to enjoy a drink first (or after?). I ate with a large party so we were seated at a large rectangular table, one side of us on a booth. We had some great wines, I couldn't tell you which exactly, but there's a huge selection of wines, and a staff member walked one of us through it extensively and answered all our questions. We ended up having excellent wines so he must have given great advice. So based on the menu there are "Little Things", "Smalls", and "Bigs" - the latter with which the sides are brought out. Those "courses" are served in that order. TIP if you want to get the pork chop, get that in first thing because it takes the longest to prepare! And that will determine when the rest of your "Bigs" and sides come out. So here's the food rundown: The charred cabbage was SO good. The sauce they use for that is heavenly. The buttermilk biscuits are also fire - it comes with 4. I only ate half of mine. In a way I wished those came out as a side because it would have tasted great to complement the meat later, but that's just me. For "Smalls", my party ordered the bacon and the salmon collar. We were really digging into the collar. Only down side is that there were bones. The bacon was great but considering we would later have pork and steak I could have done without. It is tasty though (and on the salty side!). Definitely good to eat the same time as the apps. For "Bigs", we ordered the NY Strip, Trout, and Pork Chop. Even as a non-steak person, the NY Strip was delicious and cooked so well, and so easy to cut into. The Trout was also great. Although I feel like we fished out since we had the salmon collar previously. (If I had to choose between the two, I would go for the salmon. I feel like there was more meat on there, or at least it seemed that way.) The pork chop was the star of the show. It was really cooked so well and demonstrated the skill of the chefs. We enjoyed these with the sides of pan-fried mashed potatoes and spinach. You can't go wrong with either of those. The pan-fried mashed potatoes reminded me of latkes. This place is amazing!The biscuits are a must try. They are flakey and buttery and some of the best biscuits I've had. The croquette was also delicious and had the perfect amount of meat. The sauce that came with the croquette is probably what puts it at a high spot or croquettes I've had so far. Steak was cooked to perfection -and cut like butter. The salmon collar is very flavorful and buttery but be warned there are a lot of little bones to pick out. The atmosphere was moody, but still had the feel of a classic American steakhouse, with warm wood walls and vintage portraits of American presidents and generals. For our mains, we tried the pork porterhouse and the ribeye. If you get one thing here, you must try a steak. The ribeye was melt in your mouth tender, with a seasoned crust that I still dream about. The pork chop was good, but a little dry. However, I really enjoyed the accompaniment of the pickles and mustard. For sides, we got the broccoli and the pan fried mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes are a must order. They were crispy on the outside, creamy on the inside, and perfectly seasoned. The service was very good. We didn't feel rushed and were able to take our time with the meal. To drink, I recommend the XXX Dirty Martini. It was crisp and refreshing, a perfect counter to a rich and heavy meal. First time trying this place and it made a pretty good first impression. First, parking. If you come early enough you could get parking in front of the restaurant but if not, there's ample street parking and it's fairly close outside Union Market parking garage. Once you're inside, it definitely gives good first date vibes. My friend and I were seated upon arrival and the waitress was very nice. She recommended the buttermilk biscuits. Lwhich rightfully so, have to be the best biscuits from any restaurant I've ever eaten at.. full stop. They come with pimiento cheese but even without the spread, the biscuits are phenomenal. I ordered a NY Strip and my friend got ribeye. We ordered pan fried mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. The spinach was delicious and the mashed potatoes were good too (cooked in bacon fat). I thought the food was good but not great but I'd definitely come back again for those biscuits alone! read more

Yelp fam!!!!! I'm just slid into 2023 with some amazing food experiences I can't wait to share with you. First off I'm really upset I just found out about St. Anselm... Because this was one of the best meals I've ever had. My wife & I were genuinely filled with joy after this meal. First off St. Anselm is a very chill spot or kind of reminded me of a Classy lodge , lots of wood furniture, antlers on the wall, etc The real spill The order- Old fashioned - well made Salmon Collar Appetizer! Wow this was a simple but amazing dish. I've never had it but now I crave it lol, but for real though. 16oz Ribeye- 5/5 great cut of steak seasoned quite well Potato salad with salmon Amazing , tasty Creamed spinach A classic done well Dessert Ice Cream Cake! This is my favorite dessert I've had in a long time. In a world of endless lava cakes this ICC was Delicious. Overall this was one of the best meals I've had in DC. Check this spot out!!! read more
