We came in a Friday night to enjoy some drinks and music. I approached the dance floor area and looked over to the DJ booth to see what music might be coming next and what their whole set up looked like. I was then approached by a male patron in plaid that I had approached the dance floor strangely and that it made him uncomfortable. He then proceeded to say that the DJ was a close buddy and that he thought I was trying to pull some sketchy moves and then said "what the f*** are you trying to do?!?" I was so caught off guard that I went to go back to my friends and then we left. I told the bouncer that this person was creating an uncomfortable and hostile environment, but he didn't really seem to care. I understand looking out for friends, but in this case, I didn't even approach anyone. I walked toward the dance floor, peeked over at the DJ booth and then was verbally assaulted. The security did nothing other than apologize for the experience. Our group left and saw the same plaid guy walk up to the bouncers and DJ as if he was the king. Terrible experience read more

A worker from this bar went up to Jamal, gave him a cup of water and had the audacity to tell him to stop singing "depressing" songs. I applaud Jamal for standing his ground and tell him "I can sing whatever the f@#& I want. I was in the bar tonight with my girlfriend trying to enjoy the night, and someone from the backroom staff came shoving their way through the crowd. It caught me off guard, I almost spilled my drink, and I looked back at him and gave him a look (and rightfully so). He then proceeded to walk up to me and ask "what's up, nigga?" I didn't fully hear him at first. I thought he was drunk and looking for the bathroom so I asked him if he was looking for the bathroom. His reply was "what's up, nigga??" again. I definitely heard it the second time. I was kind of shocked, kind of ready to knock him out, but before I could say anything he said "no, I work here!" and walked into the kitchen. The person that had been working the door all night happened to pass through right after and I told him about the incident. I was not happy about it, obviously....the door person apologized and said he would go and find out what happened. I then saw him and another female employee talking to the employee in question in the back LAUGHING about it. Repeatedly. I am a black, 6'4", 215lb athlete, and this little racist was all of about 5'5" 120lbs soaking wet. I showed superhuman restraint considering the level of disrespect as I can't risk my career over a racist encounter in a bar...but I should NEVER be put into that kind of situation in the first place!!!! As an adult human in 2023 this is beyond unacceptable, but from your perspective, as a business, how do you treat someone this way after the spend $40 in cover charges AND over $150 in drinks for the night? I'll be using every resource at my disposal, and every professional and political connection I have here in the Bay to get restitution for this. This is unacceptable, and I am not going to let this go. I expect to hear from somebody on this staff before the weekend is over to discuss next steps. I think it would be in your best interests to make sure I hear from you before you hear from me. read more

Recently had lunch here with the SO and friends. We went during the weekend around 130pm and was able to eat outdoors. It looks like Mountain View has shut down this street for outdoor dining for the restaurants. I suggest camping out for tables as it's first come first serve outdoors. I got the Bruncharita to start the meal and let me tell you...it was delicious! I've recently been into spicy cocktails and this one had a good amount of kick without making it difficult to drink. I also got the Spicy Castro Burger (Are you seeing a trend here? Lol) and the SO got the Kobe burger. Both were delicious and was a good size. My on,y complaint was how messy it was to eat the burgers because of how soft the buns were. It was falling apart and if you don't watch yourself, you'll have burger juice all over you. Came here with a small group of friends on a late Friday night for some drinks. I've taken off 2 stars primarily for the quality of service we received, which in my opinion was absolutely unacceptable and discriminatory. Let's start with the positives though! The ambiance and outdoor setup were great, although the heat lamps were a little too hot. The beer selection is good and we liked everything that we ordered. Now let's talk about the service. I arrived a bit late, after everyone else already had a first round of drinks. We chatted for a bit and I was waiting for our server Grace to come by to order drinks before the (I'm assuming) manager of the establishment comes over and says verbatim "if you guys aren't going to spend more money, you're going to have to go." He kept reiterating this one phrase "you need to spend more money." Never in my entire life have I been spoken to like that at any establishment! First of all, it's socioeconomic discrimination. And ridiculous because we were just about to order more drinks. Secondly we were 6 people taking up one small table in the corner, while there were plenty of the same sized tables given to parties of 2 who had been there way longer than my friends had been. That's a way less efficient usage of tables, but I suppose the manager thought it's easier to bully us than those smaller groups. I'll never know his real reasons for targeting us, but it felt very unfair and discriminatory. For this reason I don't recommend supporting this business. There are plenty of other options in the area like Eureka!, Molly Magees, and Steins Beer Garden. read more

Such a cool little spot! I've been here a handful of times for some drinks with friends but today I stopped by for my lunch. I was able to sit at the bar and chat with one of the regulars and the bartender Caryl! I was torn between the steak sandwich or the spicy Castro burger. Caryl informed me that the steak sandwich is popular but the burgers are the hidden gem! It was everything I wanted and more. The burger had caramelized onions, peppers, melted pepper jack and chorizo on top! It was a lot to eat but I'm going to be really happy for my leftovers later on. I love St Stephens! The drinks, food, service and company make it the greatest time. They always have fresh beers on tap and have great drink specials (shout-out to the snake bite which is half Guinness half cider and the hot toddy). Their outdoor patio area is great - they have heat lamps all around, sanitizers at every table, and all servers wear masks. You NEED to try the fries with curry dip, the curry dip is seriously to die for and prob the tastiest I've ever had. Fries + curry+ beer = heaven. Props to the shepherds pie and fish n chips also. My husband and I chose this place based on the menu. It was quite interesting when we first walked in, there was no hostess or anyone who helped us . We had to seek someone out. She let us chose our seats, wiped off the table and walked away. I had to flag her down again to get a menu. The waitress was pleasant when we saw her and took our order. That was the ONLY time we saw her. Horrid service, my husband had to get up and get his water glass filled. She never came back once the order was taken. The only saving grace was that the food was very good. I had a burger and he had the smoked salmon salad. This place has very good food, but they need to work on the service issue. It's a bar and restaurant, so it gets pretty loud. Looks like lots of customers come to watch some game and there's lot of cheering and yelling. You seat yourself and flag down a server yourself. They're kind of slow and don't come by much, so it'll be hard to order or ask for something. The food took over half an hour to come out, so that was pretty disappointing. I mean, it took about 10 minutes to find someone to give us menus, then another 10-15 minutes for them to come back and take the order. Add on a little over half an hour for the food to come out. I don't usually pay attention to time, but we were putting up Pokemon lures on the two Pokestops and they ran out of time, so... yea, that's over half an hour. However, the two servers were really nice. The lady who helped with our order did check up on us after we had our order to make sure everything was good. The guy who brought out the food was very friendly. I had the house signature lamb burger because I was craving lamb. The burger was so delicious. The sauces they put in it fit it so well. I'm craving it just thinking about it right now. The potato bun had a sweet taste to it. It accentuated the taste of the lamb meat. Only thing was the burger was overall a bit dry. It would be fantastic if it was a little juicer. Also, the cajun waffle fries that came with the burger was nice and crispy. Overall great dish! read more

It was a good place to catch up, drink and talk (and eat a bit), but don't expect much else in terms of entertainment. Great food, great service, great atmosphere, excellent. I stopped by on a Thurs. night to watch football and have some food. Was plenty of seating. I ordered Fish and Chips, which was fantastic. It was 2 huge, fluffy, fillets of haddock, perfectly cooked, and served on top of a huge pile of steak cut French fries (love steak cut!!), also perfectly cooked, and with a grilled lemon on the side (nice touch). I must say, I was very pleasantly surprised as, I didn't expect such quality from a small, Mnt Vw bar (Well, the place is good size actually...). I went to the bar to get a good "sipp'n" whiskey and the bar tender was delightful. Smiling, sincere, knowledgeable and happy to help. They had several American games on to enjoy (Football, basketball, hockey but, no stink'n soccer, thank you!!). Music wasn't blasting, like other places in Mnt Vw I won't name rather, it was at very nice level, were you could enjoy it, enjoy the games and still easily converse. I had two waitresses who were excellent, pleasant, attentive, helpful. Lastly, place was clean too. Not just the physical bar but, I could see and taste, in the food, that they used fresh, cleaned cooking oil. Bravo! Whoever's managing this place is doing a great job. If I could do a negative star I would. The service was horrible. We did not get greeted when we sat down and the bartender did not once introduces to himself or us. His name is Gilbert. I came to downtown Mountain View because we were told it was a good place to have a dinner. Asking Gilbert for the simplest things was irritating to him. It was your regular Irish pub with friendly Irish servers. They're dog friendly, so my friend was able to let his dog hang at their patio. They even brought him water and treats. Their drink selection is decent - I'd have loved to see more beers available on draft though. Wd both got some Guinness. They have the usual bar snacks- chips and other eats. I can't say much for the entrees and food, but I loved the ambiance sitting on Castro with merriment and pretty twinkling lights around. It's worth noting that pre-COVID, they used to double up as a discotheque with a dance floor during the weekends, which makes for a very weird vibe. St Stephens is definitely open but only for take out. I got take out four times since the shelter in place. Twice I got cocktails togo. This works really well. I paid for a single French 75 and got a double in a mason jar. So sting but in a delicious way. Third time I ordered dinner for the whole family. The best meals were the Irish pub food. My son loved his shepherds pie and my husband enjoyed the a sausage dish. We called at 7:30, just as the kitchen was closing, so don't forget to call a little early. I recommend calling before 7:00. Finally we ordered a late lunch of Caprese salad and two almond crusted chicken sandwiches. These were AWESOME sandwiches with excellent texture, flavor and great bread. We didn't get alcohol this time because we had the food delivered by a robot called Starship. We live close to Castro Street so we were able to use Starship. After an awesome conference, my startup buddy and I decided to catch up over a beer. Sadly, most places in downtown Mountain View close really early but luckily we were able to find St Stephen's and grabbed a beer. I accidentally ordered a snakebite when I meant a black velvet but it's all good. I think they used harp and cider but it was delicious nonetheless. Like many of the businesses in the area, this pub has an awesome street patio where you can chill with your dog. On a beautiful evening, there's about nothing better than to nurse a beer and hang with your best friend. I love this restaurant and love coming for trivia every week!! I would give this restaurant 5 stars if it wasn't for one reason. The new trivia announcer is so loud for no reason at all. His volume and unnecessary talking is so over the top that it ruins the vibe of trivia. We have enjoyed going to trivia every week for years now but he has made it so that we cannot enjoy it. Unfortunately, I had to do a minor update on my previous review due to the strangest customer service interaction I've had in a while. So odd. I ordered online (as usual) and set my pick up time for Monday Memorial Day. Then I got a call the day before on Sunday from a woman asking me to confirm, because they had already made my food that day (Sunday)?!! Then there was a long pause. Believe it or not, I think she actually intended for me to come pick it up a day early anyway. ("Well, we made it TODAY ....") Huh. I told her that I indeed wanted to pick up my food on the day I selected (BTW I also had already gotten my email receipt with the correct day and time). She did not seem happy with this answer, but oh well. So that was the first awkward moment. Second awkward moment: I drove to pick up my food on the day I picked, Monday Memorial Day. I arrived a few minutes early, which I normally do. Typically I'd call and let them know I was there, and the staff would say "Great, we will be out there in 5 minutes or so." This time, the same woman from the day before answered me with a sharp "You're early! Your pick up time is 12:20." Jeez. I had no problem waiting - I just usually call them to let them know I'm there, so not usually a big deal. She lets me know she will out in ten minutes. I see her at about 12:20 gesturing to open the car trunk, then she sets my food inside, then walks away. Guess I'm not getting the usual friendly wave goodbye this time? Whateves. Look, I know there are way more important issues lately and I absolutely know we are ALL under a lot of stress. And I know this sounds like whining. BUT since all my other staff experiences (maybe on 4 or so different occasions) had been so delightfully cheerful and efficient, prompting me to rave about them, I guess I felt let down. It's usually a much more fun event for me (which means a lot since I do not venture out all that much anyway). And that somehow this woman was annoyed or inconvenienced by me or by life, or who the heck knows. Or maybe I'm just spoiled in general. But I did get the impression that I was meant to feel I'd done something wrong? Somehow? Dunno. Anyway, I hope they work out their miscommunications with each other and with their online ordering system. I'll give them a little break in the meantime. That's all. Thanks for reading. Really excited to have some Fish and Chips. They advertise 3/4 lb for $25. Lots of $$ for Fish and Chips but I remember getting several large pieces. NO MORE. Only 1 piece probably 1/2 the advertised amount. The waiter said that there used to be more. Also the fish was dry and the batter was poor. SUPER DISAPPOINTED!!!! Be ware.
