We meet as a family two or three times a year and we chose this place. And waited nearly 1.5 hours for food. It's really something to seat people and hold them hostage, it's sickening really. I think it's timing with this place that definitely makes a huge difference to your breakfast/brunch experience. I've been here during the Sunday brunch rush. By the time you get a seat, you are either already past the point of hunger or starving for lunch. Either way, you are irritated. (Estimated wait time: 45 min). As for the best time for a visit, I recommend planning one on a weekday mid-morning. (Estimated wait time :10 min). I went on a Friday. The mix of people is similar to the Sunday brunch: couples, families, a couple birthday celebration tables. A pleasant group. Food: Better than average American Breakfast. A notch up from Millbrae pancake house.(also decent) Specific food call-outs: I had the Friday special raspberry pancakes short stack. Pancakes were big and fluffy. Berries were fresh. A side of raspberry compote accompanied the dish. I traded a raspberry pancake for a couple pieces of apple wood bacon, nicely seasoned, loosely shaved hashbrowns and an over medium egg with Dan B. Between the two of us, we had yummy breakfast. A couple of down points: Menu item listing forces you to be creative in your ordering choices. See above paragraph. Side items like hashbrowns, sausage, bacon have to be ordered separately for many of the menu selections unlike other breakfast places where these items automatically accompany your order. Second down point, coffee is bland. Although you can serve yourself, you have your own carafe, you probably won't want a re-fill. Overall, I recommend it. The workers here are definitely not as friendly as the Stacks on Hayes St in SF. I mean, they're' not rude but they're just sort of 'awkward.' Our server kept coming by, staring at us for 3-5 seconds before saying, "Take your time. *smiles*" We thought it was weird cuz it just came out of the blue. The food wasn't as good as I remembered. I got the Huevos Rancheros house special. There were WAY too many olives in mine. The chorizo tasted like plain ground beef. Not too impressed this time around. Today was a special occasion - brunch with a long-time bff, Nisa S.! I guess that makes me a little biased about my review today because not even the mini car accident we witnessed right before crossing the street could ruin our happy mood! I thought about trying their lunch meals, but breakfast is always calling my name when I come here. But I managed to stray away from my usual of pancakes or omelettes and went for the crab crepe - fresh crab meat with avocado, jack cheese and chives topped with hollandaise sauce...I know, I know sounds delicious right?! And it was nothing less than perfection!! I mean, I love me some macadamia nut or blueberry pancakes and banana pecan waffles at Stack's, but they got the crab crepe thing goin' on!! The slightly sweet crepe was stuffed mostly with fresh crab meat and creamy avocado slices and when combined with the hollandaise sauce, I just couldn't put it in my mouth fast enough! My friend satisfied her craving and ordered the classic banana pecan waffle. We shared our meals, talked, laughed and reminisced for more than 2 hours! And we never felt rushed to get out of here. I dislike when people overstay their meal at a restaurant, especially when there's a line out the door, but my friend and I rarely get these types of moments together so we savored (no pun intended) every possible second. I've been here twice in the past 4 months. I've always driven by this place on my way to downtown Burlingame on California, and I've seen the hordes of people and lines waiting outside. So I figured it must be good but I don't like waiting super long waits for restaurants. Or if we go, I'd rather go on off peak hours like really early or really late. The first time i went here was with a big group of friends and it was for my friend's birthday. We came here for brunch at 11:30am (i think?) on Sunday with 10 people, but I made reservations a few days before. Even with reservations we had to wait like 30 min because they had to gather tables once people left to group them together for our big party. I was a little peeved that we had to wait that long even with a reservation. Granted I found out that the person who took our reservation down put it for Saturday morning instead of Sunday morning. But I remember telling that person over the phone twice and confirming it with them. Nice thing about Stacks is they put out a coffee station outside for the waiting patrons. They have 2 different kinds of coffee - caffeine and decaf. They also have ice tea for those non-coffee drinkers. And I believe, but I can't remember exactly, they also have water. It's like a complete coffee station with creamers, sugar and to-go coffee cups. And the coffee is HOT, because it's in a thermos. Such a nice perk. The inside is small for the look of the outside and it's cramped. It's almost chaos inside with lots of people running around and wandering around. Our entire party was pretty happy with the food and enjoyed it. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with Crab. Soo delish! I didn't care for the shredded potatoes that come with most entrees, they're soggy and just blah. Nothing exciting and I could do without, next time I should ask to sub it out for something else. Second time I came here was with my husband after his early morning flight, so we arrived here by 10am. We waited probably 10 min but we were placed in this weird table that we had to sit side-by-side and face the entire restaurant. I felt like we were at the sweetheart table at a wedding. Oh wells. Ehhh....so- so. A work assignment is what brought me to Burlingame recently; and being I had some time to kill before going in, I decided to treat my self to breakfast. Stack's is the first place that caught my attention, and being it was quite busy, I figured it should be decent....average decent it was. Got a seat first by the main entrance. Too much of a breeze. Requested to move toward back of restaurant ( with anticipated less breeze) still close to another door somewhat close by- still somewhat of a breeze but bearable. Menu appears to provide a decent selection of delicious sounding breakfast options. And being I'm usually on my carb watching diets, I decided upon one of their omelets. The Hotlinks omelet is what I decided upon. Described as: Diced hot links, green chiles, onions, mushrooms, cheddar-jack cheese, sour cream & chives, with salsa on the side. I opted for no mushrooms and no sour cream. It comes with toast and hash browns, though I just opted on fruit instead. I also ordered coffee. Coffee was crap. I should had said something, but I needed a pick me up. Omelet than arrived decent in presentation, and generous in portion. It turned our pretty good, but a little too greasy. Fruit was actually sweet and fresh tasting. Service was certainly less than spectacular- non attentive and lacked personality. One of the buss- boys was nice and attentive though. Recommendation: Go to the SF Location, Better Service, More Lively and Upbeat Service** This is the 3rd time I've gone to this location, but the service seems to be going down hill. I was able to get seated right away, since the place was rather empty. The waiter dropped the menus on the table and left. I asked if I could get a side of pancakes and the waiter said I'll have to charge you for that. He said this in a very serious and stern manner. I said that's fine. He said so you still want your pancakes. Yes... I thought that was a little weird. A waitress drops off the meal and before I could even try the meal, he asked if every thing is good. I said yes since that was the polite thing to do. 10 minutes later, I received my bill on the table. People who arrived before me was still dining and was not rushed with the bill. It's...mediocre. I mean, It's nothing i'd rave about to friends and family, and I probably will never go out of my way to drive to Burlingame just to eat here (I WILL however do it for RAMEN!!). My all time favorite breakfast food is waffles. Belgian waffles. With strawberries.. mmmmmmm The wait is ridiculous. The free coffee, tea, and water is a nice touch and a way of compensation but when I saw the crowd it just set the bar higher. "This better be the dam best waffle i've had in my life" I thought to myself. It wasn't. I kind of picked at it after awhile. But it wasn't terrible. At least they used homemade whipped cream, none of that coop whip reddi whip stuff. The decor was really tacky. I couldn't stand it. Huge fake flowers all over the place.. I also didn't really like how the waitress gave us our check the minute we got our food. I understand you need to get us out of here because there's a long wait, but CHRIST I don't think we had even picked up our forks. Always a crowd must mean it's pretty good? Eh, it was okay, it was a little confusing finding the host in the front with some of the patrons lingering out front with their Sunday church clothes on, seems to be the place for large groups on the weekends. If you are expecting a quiet quaint Sunday afternoon brunch expect to share your surroundings with parties of 6 or more plus clustered tables, children screaming at the top of their lungs (cause that's just what they do) and the vacuum constantly running because those same brats decided to throw breakfast onto the carpet. The food: My chicken apple sausage omelet was a bit dry, as were the potatoes and the bagel, nothing special. The pancakes, with their name being stacks it sounds like they should have been extraordinary, but really I'm sorry but IHOP just outdid you. We had to flag our waiter down a few times for simple common things like water. We have been to Stacks in Redwood city and nothing compares to them! They have speedy service and the staff is super friendly and the food is never disappointing !! We chose to go to this location here in Burlingame because it was the half meeting point for our friend. We arrived to the location and a server was about to seat us (menus in hand) inside but I asked her if it was possible to sit outside since it's such a beautiful day! She mumbled something and told us to chose a spot and someone would be right with us. WOW!!! Couldn't she walk us outside and seat us with the menus? Anyway, shortly a male server came and gave us menus and took our drink order and we mentioned we had been waiting for one more person. He returned with drinks for us coffee water juice etc. No creamer for my coffee? Thanks I guess... And then he disappeared. The coffee was crap like they needed to clean the coffee machine or something? Meanwhile, waiting waiting waiting, he had not returned. Over 10 minutes pass...waiting waiting waiting finally my niece was like "I'm going to find someone" So then finally a waiter comes out (a different one, perspiring way too much!) And takes our order, I order a fruit bowl with just pineapple, strawberries and blueberries. He tells me the blueberries are "freshly frozen" I say ok because I have tried these type before and felt they would be ok. My niece asks if they have turkey bacon (like the one in Redwood City) he says nope! Chicken apple sausage. She is disappointed and sighs "aw man" he's like "hey I'm sorry it's not my fault" but in a condescending manner. So she say ok for the chicken apple. MMM...this place has a line out the door most weekends and there's a reason for it. The food is tasty comfort food. We shared french toast and one of the breakfast meals here. The meals are pretty hearty and you could easily share but if you come with an appetite, you could definitely finish your meal. Our bill was less than $20 for two items and coffee. Not a bad deal. They also provide, coffee, tea and water outside while you wait. Not a lot of places do that. Get there early and put your name down though because it makes the wait go much faster. read more

Gorgeous day, so outside seating was perfect. I can't remember the last time a server was so cheerful and bubbly- just the perfect amount of attention mixed with covert witticisms. Unlike the location in S.F., this Stacks does not carry a liquor license for impromptu requests of Mimosas and such. Authentic apple juice and tart iced tea sufficed all the same. Stuck to the basics, and was pleasantly surprised by the scrambled eggs. Fluffier than I had been expecting, with enough density to make it seem like somewhat of a hearty food. The chicken apple sausage was bursting with flavor, while the hashbrowns were devoured from the get go. Slight distraction: Upon opening the Heinz ketchup bottle, the contents kind of leapt out at me, like the bottle was some sort of crouching tiger while the ketchup was the damn hidden dragon. Seriously. The instant inquiry for more napkins was met almost immediately. How quaint. Anyway, of course my companion polished off the Eggs Benedict with ease. The tasting of the Hollandaise was somewhat palpable, but I really need to go back and try more to form any real opinion about it. And this has now led us to the crowning victory: The French Toast. The molecules and air bubbles formed absolutely exquisitely. The raspberry compote is such a tasty accoutrement. This location is pretty accessible by train. It's literally right there when you get off the train. If you drive there, you're in the heart of Burlingame so it can be hard to find parking but in the morning time, it shouldn't be too bad. The food is good and I love their waffles. I woke up this morning happy, hung over and hungry. This place hit the spot! My friend and I walked over just before nine and we only had to wait about five minutes for a booth. The menu had all sorts of delightful breakfast foods on it, but I went straight for what I knew I wanted, a strawberry belgian waffle, hold the whipped cream please. (I don't like whipped cream.) It tasted wonderful! The fresh strawberries were perfectly sweet and ripe, the warm maple syrup drizzled over the crisp yet fluffy waffle was just what I needed. The french toast with apple compote sounded intriguing too, maybe next time. This place is buzzing with families and the cutest little kids you ever did see. The decor is awful, but what does that matter when your waffle is so damn good?!?! The only real drawback that I experienced was that the woman who managed the floor/bus boys, etc was a little loud. There are few things in life that are more comforting than eating brunch with your loved one(s) on a perfectly sunny Sunday. On that note, there are also very few Mondays shittier than the Monday following a long weekend break. We were so reluctant to return to our hopelessly stressful workweeks following Thanksgiving holiday that we decided to prep for this Monday with not one but TWO weekend brunches in a row. That's right kiddies, first Saturday brunch at Mama's in North Beach- then brunch at Stacks on Sunday. That's how we roll!! Darn those stinky Mondays with nothing to look forward to. Mondays are everything Sundays are NOT. Mondays are not filled with the comfy softness of a warm blanket for an afternoon nap. Mondays are not filled with lovely strolls in the park..or around Costco. Nevertheless!! My point is, Mondays can NEVER be like Sundays because of the lack of comfort foodies. Stacks' cover appropriately sums it all up by titling its book menu "Stacks- Comfortable Food". Indeed. The location spells Burlingame all over it. Nestled in the 'downtown' shopping center of super suburbia, Stacks is on a semi-panoramic corner. I really enjoyed the location- not very noisy since it isn't directly on the street, and the large windows took in a lot of sun. The portabello chicken lunch crepe I ordered was perfection. The crepe was thick enough to hold in huge slices of grilled chicken and uber-fresh mushies. Yum!! In contrast to some of the other dishes on Stacks' menu, this was not greasy or over buttered at all. The blueberry pancakes were also sheer delight. (Of course, with a name like Stacks- they better serve some amazing pancakes no??) If you are in the area, Stacks is a great bet for brunch. I hear that the lines get pretty crowded, so sleep in like I do and show up around 1.......um or 2. But don't push it past that you lazy bum, they stop serving food at 2:30. Boo. Yet again, another one of those places on the peninsula that people seem to be willing to wait an hour or more for a table at. Pancakes are good, nice and fluffy and they have a large menu/variety of items to choose from. I tend to usually order mexican style breakfast items here for some reason...huevos ranchers, breakfast burritos. Not sure why. Anyway, the food is good and the portions are generous but not someplace I'm willing to spend an hour waiting for a table at. Anyway - great if you don't mind the wait but not special enough for me to sit around waiting for. I'd rather make a reservation and spend the time driving down to the city and parking for something delicious. But that's just me. read more

Stacks is most definitely, 100%, without a doubt, probably one of my favorite places to eat breakfast (and yes, it required all those unnecessary adjectives). In all seriousness, I love the food here. I've been here on multiple occasions; I've ordered several different things from the menu; and I've loved everything I've ordered so far. Which means that either: A) I'm really, REALLY good at pinpointing what I like. OR... B) Everything they've got is just really good. In fact, it's so good that I will write this review in my old format (which I'm usually too lazy to do these days!). QUALITY: Really good. My two favorites on this menu are definitely the Banana Macadamia Nut pancakes and the Crab omelet. Without a doubt. The pancakes have the perfect blend of real bananas and coconut, and the crunch provided by the macadamia nuts adds to its greatness. The Crab omelet is a sight (and taste) to behold. A delicious combination of succulent crab meat, jack cheese, and hollandaise. You can't go wrong. QUANTITY: Lots of it. Lots and lots of delicious food. In fact, you MAY induce yourself into a food coma without realizing it because you're enjoying the food too much. Learn from my mistake. Pace yourself. PRICE: The prices here aren't too hefty on the wallet (about $10+ for a good breakfast plate). Lots of good quality food for a good price. I wish it was a dollar less, but I'll deal with it. SERVICE: People here are friendly. AND there's free coffee outside while you wait to be seated! Who can complain about that (unless it's raining outside)? It's got a nice ambiance, as well. From my experiences, it wasn't too loud. Very pleasant, indeed. Just a reminder, parking will be a hassle, especially on a weekend, so plan accordingly. There might be a few places along the peninsula so I won't discount too many other spots, but you come to Stack's in Burlingame, and you get the real deal or anything you want. Seriously, unless you haven't eaten in a few days or have an unusually stretchy stomach, order one pancake. It'll be more than enough. Other things I had bites of that were delish: their potatoes that come on the side of almost all the omlettes and the guacamole burger. I thought the prices were very reasonable, too, especially for the sandwhiches with which you get potatoes and a salad or fresh fruit on the side ($8-$10 range). I was helping a family friend out with his backyard. Cleaning up the brick around his pool and putting in sealant. Anyhow though lunch came around and he told my cousin and I to get some lunch from Stacks. So we ordered 3 burgers... Dan wanted a burger with only tomatoes and lettuce nothing else. No mayo no nothing. Edward got a guacamole burger with everything I ordered a bacon cheese with no onions. And I dont get how hard that order was...cause when my cousin and I got home we opened it up and my burger was missing bacon and dans burger still had everything but at least no mayo. Its not rocket science but o well, i guess some cooks have a hard time understanding how to change orders correctly without having a overload. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and give them a 2 star instead of a 1 star. 2 stars because my cousin has convinced me to come and try their super breakfast. Well since they are called Stacks, maybe burgers are not their forte. o yea, with the burgers come these hash browns or home fries..not sure what it was..not very good, my friend only lives like 3-5 min away from this place so I don't think the car ride would of made such a difference. Oh Stacks, the memories we've shared. I've been going to this place since high school.. don't know many people who DON'T love it. Only recently discovered that there was another location in Hayes Valley - a bit nicer decor there, and the food is equally as great. Everyone loves the potatoes, I'm a big fan of the monte cristo...they also do great omlettes and their pancakes melt in your mouth. I can easily say that this is one of my favorite breakfast places in the bay area (millbrae pancake house also on the list). read more

A great brunch place with everything you're probably looking for. There's plenty of parking, especially across the street where parking is $2 for 2 hours of parking. Came at 10am and got a seat for 5 within 10-15 min. Definitely come early because the wait gets long BUT there's complimentary coffee outside while you wait. Score. Since it's known for it's pancakes, I probably should have tried that but I didn't. Instead I opted for the eggs florentine. Basically it's an egg benedict with spinach added to it. Tasted good and healthy (thanks spinach!). Also, they charge coffee by the pot, not by cup, a pleasant surprise. Service is very friendly and prompt too. Didn't realize that this was a chain so next time I'll probably visit one that's closer to my house but overall, a good brunch joint that you can't really go wrong with. read more

I was thinking it would be overhyped and overpriced breakfast but left pleasantly surprised. I read up on yelp to call ahead with our group reservation. They did a good job about taking our reservation that morning and we didn't have to wait too long. Unfortunately, they didn't really have a table to accomodate us so they made a makeshift long table along a walkway so that we were all facing the same direction which was a tad akward. But onto the food! I asked the watier for a recommendation and he suggested an egg scramble dish with carnitas on it. It was good! We also had the biscuits and gravy as "appetizer" and found it absolutely delicious. I think you have to be pretty bad to screw up breakfast but I enjoyed my meal and would come back again. There were too many things on the menu that I wanted to try! And with a name like stacks, I will try panackes next time! read more

Expect to wait a long time! The longest we've ever waited was an hour, but we always walk out happy and satiated! This is a great place for brunch! They have the best pancakes ever! I order the banana wheat germ pancakes. The bananas are cooked with the batter and topped with wheat germ. The slightly crunchy, sweet and toasty wheat germ is so good! I never knew that wheat germ could be so yummy. With a little bit of butter and just the right amount of syrup, I'm in pancake heaven! Even though the wait is ridiculously long, I just can't stay away from this place on Sunday mornings. Fortunately, while you wait you can drink free coffee and tea. Plus, the staff is super friendly and the food always come out fast and piping hot. The Burlingame Stacks has more on the menu that then one in Campbell. They have crepes, sandwiches, pancakes, omelettes, and many more items. If you're looking for a traditional brunch on Sunday you can't go wrong with Stacks! read more

This is a great place for a weekend breakfast; the weather is pretty much, always nice there and they have great food. Don't be discouraged by the large crowd of people outside the restaurant front; you will probably, most likely have to wait just like everyone else...unless you get there when they open their doors. Waiting isn't that bad either because they offer self-serve refreshments and seating (if you're lucky to swoop on a chair). They serve pretty generous sized portions of their entrees. I ordered the Strawberry Belgian Waffle. With this dish, there is a fine line between breakfast and dessert because it is served with strawberries and whipped cream. In my opinion, it is the perfect breakfast because you get filled up with that Belgian waffle goodness and sweet strawberries AND fresh whipped cream. SO GOOD. Who says you can't have dessert for breakfast and vice versa? I don't. On another occasion, I ordered their Portabella Chicken Crepe served with potatoes and a small salad. The pesto sauce really complemented the chicken nicely. I was full after eating about half the crepe and potatoes, but it was all good. I will definitely return here again. read more

Like the food.. Hate the wait. I am one who likes to eat breakfast and get started with my day. Don't have time to dilly dally... . Seriously, this place gets full on the weekends and you see all the people waiting outside. Thus, the deduction of two stars. The food is tasty and huge portions. I usually go for the banana macadamia nut & coconut pancakes or the all meat omelet. Can't go wrong with an omelet filled with bacon, ham, mushrooms, onions, tomatoes, cheese and sour cream. Forget that I am lactose intolerant, I'll down all the lactaid I can for this.. The pancakes are nice and fluffy.. Ample amounts of coconut and nuts. It satisfies my sweet tooth. Service is quick and friendly. I do find the decor a tad bit dark with all the green.. Green table top, carpet and trees all over.. I do appreciate the fact that the servers leave the pitcher of coffee and / or water at the table to help yourself so that you don't have to flag a server to refill your cup of coffee... read more
