M sister and I ate dinner at the Stage Left Grille before seeing The Wiz at The Fox Theatre. Glad we got there early because they ended up with a waitlist by the time we were done with dinner. The atmosphere was so unique, like a 50's diner with an upscale flare. The service was great and the food was even better. I had the Cobb salad which was large enough for 2 people (my leftovers made for a great lunch the next day) and sis had the grilled chicken sandwich with bacon jam on a pretzel bun with shoestring fries - YUM! We visited before taking in a show at the Fox. We were able to come in and be seated right away. We were expecting having to wait. The hostess seemed very standoffish. She never did say a word. This is a little gem connected to the Fox Theater. It is only open prior to theater shows and you need to plan your visit accordingly. There will be a line before the doors open, I suggest arriving at least 15 minutes prior to opening. Service is slightly different here. When the doors open, they will fill all of the tables and then servers take all of the orders before turning them in to the kitchen. You are going to want to be in the first wave of diners because if you don't get a seat initially, you are waiting for the entire dining room to place an order, eat, and for patrons to leave before you'll be able to get a seat. The space is classic diner themed with theater posters dotted on the walls. It can get loud. They serve a limited menu. We ordered soft pretzel, and a burger with fries. All were great. They also have themed drinks for the theatrical show that is happening. I had the Diamonds are Forever (blackberry mule) and it was fantastic. This place delivers solid quality food- diner food but sometimes you just need that burger or chicken sandwich. They serve smash burgers which I had with cheese. All sandwiches come with side of fries (lots of fries). Good fries too. I got a side salad and would have preferred it to be served before my burger but oh well- on an evening before a show they are super busy. There was a mix up with my friends wine order and that took a bit to resolve however they did bring us an extra glass of wine. If you have tickets to a show at the Fox Theater, this grill is right next door, owned by the Fox with the fast food version of what they serve at the Fox. And they work tremendously hard to make sure everyone who has tickets to the show that night get their food and eat before the show starts. Great burger and fries. Met with my cousins prior to show at Fabulous Fox. Restaurant doesn't take reservations but our wait for table was about 10 minutes. Ordered BBQ beef nachos (very good) as shareable appetizer. One cousin selected the chicken sandwich and fries. Fries were tasty; sandwich was good and large portion. My other cousin got a burger and for me, the garden salad. All were large portion sizes which was surprising. For beverage? Amaretto sours which were the absolute best I've tasted in a long time. Our waitress was excellent and attentive and no matter how many times we asked for something (more lemons, straws, to-go containers etc) she served us with a smile and patience! We didn't have to wait too long to be seated, because we were lucky to get a seat at the bar. I would definitely recommend the double hamburger - It was delicious. We didn't order any sides, but the onion rings looked amazing. There are several specialty shakes on the menu. They have fun coatings on the top edge of the glass, like toasted marshmallow on the S'more Shake. The bar staff was really attentive and nice. Our dinner orders were taken promptly and the food came quick. I didn't know too much about this restaurant before we went there for dinner and I was pleasantly surprised with the food and service at Stage Left Grille. Stopped in before a show and the Fox and were lucky enough to get the last open seat. Not a lot of seating but service was quick and the people behind us didn't have to wait long. We arrived about 2 hours before the show began and there was definitely a crowd waiting when we left. Drinks were limited as far as alcohol is concerned. A few beers on tap, a couple of wines and some show themed mixed drinks. Drinks were good but nothing to blow you away. Food was limited to a short single page menu. Kinda nice so you didn't have overwhelming options, only a few select options but something for every appetite. I chose a BBQ burger and it was very good. There was a bit of fatty gristle on mine that I had to spit back into my plate like a child but I'm sure that wasn't the norm and doesn't necessitate a poor review, that kind of thing happens, it blends in when the rest of the meat and difficult to see until you bite into it. The atmosphere was nice. Musical themed with many Broadway posters lining the walls. Limited seating in close quarters. Price was fair and portions were just the right amount that you fill up but don't need a take home tray. Which is nice considering you are about to watch a 3 hour show and won't be getting home for quite a while. Give this place a try. Nice experience when taking in a show. read more

Stage Left Diner has reopened under new management and this place has been sorely missed as an option for dining before the theater. It is located next door to the fox theater (hence the "stage Left" reference). We arrived very early so we had no problem getting a table. Thirty minutes later, this place was packed. I ordered the tuna salad which was a salad with lightly seared tuna on it. Sister ordered the manicotti (meatless since she's a vegetarian) and hubby got the pasta special of the evening. My salad was very good with tomato, egg and tuna with a ginger dressing. Good and filling. I was going to try a bite of the manicotti but I looked over at my sister's plate and it was gone so I guess it was good. I tried the pasta and wished I had gotten that. It was outstanding with the pasta cooked just right. Since we had to kill some time, we ordered dessert. Cheesecake and apple pie. A great end to the meal. Would I come back here? So I was looking for a brunch place for before the Fox Theater show on Sunday and this was one of the closest one. I'm so glad I read the reviews before I got there because there was a line when I got there a couple minutes before it opened and I was nervous about not being able to get a table. Which as a person dining alone they do not sit you at a table or booth but you can choose a seat at the bar or another close counter with stool seating. The bar was fine, I chose to sit at the end so I didn't have to sit next anyone on both sides. First I order a mimosa, not sure if was one the menu but they said they could make it. It was bit off. As if it was a bit fermented. I didn't finish all of it. For my meal I ordered the Piggy Sandwich on Everything Bagel Bread. It had a generous amount of bacon. It was simple but good. Would recommend. After the mimosa I decided to go with a different drink and the Hades, inspired by the show I was going to see was pretty good. It had pineapple and cranberry I believe. The juices tasted fresh. Over all it was a good experience and the staff was nice. read more

Went here for drinks and dinner prior to the Mean Girls show last night because we had a $100 fox gift card which clearly states on the website is redeemable here. After enjoying our dinner and a few show themed cocktails served by our wonderful server, William W (the only reason this place gets 2 stars over nONE), we went to pay. We were then told that they couldn't accept our gift card because their system is different than the fox. When we brought up that the website says it can be used here we were told that the website "hasn't been updated in some time". The Manager, Courtney, got very loud and unprofessional right off the bat. Clapping her hands and wouldn't let you get a word in. She finally agreed to escalate it to her supervisor and it was all worked out for us to use our gift card, but the behavior exhibited by this manager just ruined our whole experience. Afterwards, we went over to the Curtain Call Lounge for a drink where the bartender was very attentive and friendly, and there were no issues with using our gift card. I was traveling for work and ate here almost every othday for two weeks. Their burger is delicious! What really made this place for me was the host, Claire. The waiting area is small, and it can get very busy. She was always welcoming, kind, and prompt with service. She was organized and handled the guests well. The food was inconsistent. Sometimes it was excellent, while other times it was just good. On occasion my fries weren't cooked well, and buns and meat were burnt. To their credit, I never mentioned it, so I didn't give them an opportunity to fix it. Overall, this is a great place to eat. However, if you plan to go before a show, there can be a very long wait. I went with a group of 3 to Stage Left after a show in the afternoon on a weekday. I was a little on edge as they were playing rap music pretty loudly for the first half hour we were present. That and the A/C was on full blast making the whole room frigid and sitting there almost unbearable. The menu is short and sweet with a mix of a few options in every category with the exception of appetizers. I don't think they offer any. That being said, the prices were cheap and despite my initial reservations, the food was great. I ordered the chicken strips and fries (never do this) and they were delicious. We ended with a small slice of cheesecake which did NOT come with fresh strawberries (just sugary canned ones) and was a bit pricey for the size, but tasty. Our server was also a joy to have and was very attentive all throughout. She provided a nice offset to the negatives of the experience. And they did end up changing the music station to something a little more accommodating for those dining and trying to have a conversation. Not your typical diner food, everything was excellently prepared. Good option for a pre/post show meal with decent prices and decent food. read more

The best thing I can share about why I like this place is a staff and crew. They really try to make everything fun and enjoyable. The manager is clever every time the shows at the Fox change as she makes new themed drinks to go with the theme of the shows. It's the perfect spot for a good meal before the show. I arrived here around 10:20am on a Saturday and was excited to see a few tables open. The hostess told me they weren't taking food orders for 30 minutes and that the manager wouldn't let them sit any new tables. I asked if I can just sit somewhere and have coffee while waiting, and eventually it's decided I can sit at the bar and have coffee while I wait for the kitchen to catch up. I sit at the bar drinking coffee while looking at the breakfast menu and after 10 minutes the manager tells me the kitchen won't be open for 30 more minutes. At this point, I'm already waiting, so I figured I should just tough it out. Then 5 minutes later, the manager tells me they won't be serving breakfast anymore. At this point I left. I'm shocked that they didn't serve breakfast past 11am on a Saturday, and that a kitchen, from what seems to be a well established restaurant, couldn't take any new orders when many tables were open.
