Great upscale spot in Coronado. Fun happy hour with good food and drinks. The mussels on happy hour is a legit meal. Paired with a crisp glass of rose, perfection on a weekday. All staff was wonderful. Good place to relax and unwind.

Even on a May grade day, the sun was peeking through perfect location

The the balcony, the outside area and bar are very welcoming if you're looking for like a celebration dinner this is the spot to go to the food is phenomenal. I mean, think a lobster roll and then elevate it with a little bit of caviar on it fries, strategically stacked one on top of the other are designed to entice the pallet for more this place is just a great vibe The drinks and the wine choices are amazing. I had just a vodka soda, but there was something elevated about it with the limes and the kind of soda water and it was maybe just the fact that I was sitting on a rooftop at Sunset.

came here for happy hour and absolutely loved it. The prices were great. Our waiter was amazing and the steak here is what really shines we got the steak katsu sandwich. It was super good with a toasted bread probably my favorite bite. We also got the chicken nuggets and we love the steak skewers so buttery. The best thing though was definitely the blueberry muffin bread pudding.

Came here for dinner on a Wednesday night as a party of 3 from the Hotel del Coronado. I'd considered making a reservation since they have OpenTable integration, but figured a Wednesday without any big conference events nearby wouldn't warrant for one. Turns out I was right -- plenty of open seating. This is primarily a steakhouse and the steak delivers (hence the name), but I was a bit disappointed in some of the seafood offerings, which I guess shouldn't be that surprising given what the place is known for. We originally planned to do happy hour at the bar before dinner, but there was only seating for 2 between the parties already there. Rather than ask someone to move, we decided to just grab a table instead -- but by the time we walked back to the front, the two hosts had disappeared for about 5 minutes and a waitress had to come seat us. Here's how everything ranked: Wild Mexican Shrimp Cocktail -- 2/5. The shrimp didn't have much flavor and I would've preferred a horseradish-based cocktail sauce over the aioli and smoked jalapeño. Mini Lobster Rolls -- 5/5. I'm not usually a lobster fan but these were good! A tad dry but it's only like 2 bites so it didn't bother me. Saltspring Island Mussels -- 5/5. Great broth and bread. Wished they'd served this earlier so we could've enjoyed it with the complimentary bread. Caesar Salad -- 3/5. Dressing was a bit off. King Crab Fried Rice -- 0/5. Would've been nice if they listed whatever that sauce was in the ingredients because we wouldn't have ordered it. Let it go to waste. Mixed Mushrooms -- 5/5. Woodfired Asparagus -- 4/5. Nothing special but solid. 22 oz Dry-Aged Ribeye -- 4/5. Great salt cap sear but some bits were burnt -- I only know because when I ate them they disintegrated and tasted like ash ~~Parking: It's at the Hotel del Coronado so there's hotel parking available. Plan accordingly for hotel parking rates. ~~Service: Good aside from the hiccup trying to get seated after we decided not to do happy hour at the bar. The two hosts at the front disappeared for about 5 minutes and a waitress had to step in. Once we were seated though, everything was smooth. ~~Coolest Part: They let each person choose their own steak knife from a collection sourced from all around the world. Such a fun touch. ~~Worst Part: The King Crab Fried Rice, hands down. I took one bite and couldn't even swallow -- I was not expecting the flavor profile to be sour and tart. I've had forbidden rice before since it's common in Asian cuisine, but the sauce on this was just not it. ~~Tips: Stick to what they're known for -- the steak, mushrooms, and mussels are all excellent. Skip the crab fried rice. If you're planning on happy hour, the bar seating is limited so get there early or just go straight to a table. ~~Return: Yes, but specifically for the mixed mushrooms, mussels, and steak.

We wanted to try a new place and I saw that they had a Monday special (porterhouse special for 2) so we made a reservation and had a good time. We did not end up ordering the special but will come back and try it. It is located off of orange and it is on the second floor. Decor was nice, the staff were friendly and our waiter was knowledgeable. They give you an amuse bouche which was a cucumber slice with some sort of tuna on top. Very good. They also provide different types of bread and butters. We ended up ordering the following: Crab cake- really nice with lump crab and not a lot of "filling" which was great. Caesar salad- so good and there were a few anchovies on top. Filet- cooked perfectly. Skirt steak- really flavorful. Again, we will come back and try the porterhouse special.

Loved that they have an elevator. The inside is beautifully decorated with many interesting features and is very spacious. Enjoyed the 3 course meal for 2 and it was outstanding! Our server Brian was helpful and his recommendations were spot on. Will definitely be going back here for steak.

You can tell within the first ten minutes whether a steakhouse is going to be worth the bill. At Stake, it clicked fast: a rooftop that actually delivers on the "rooftop" promise, cocktails that arrive properly cold and balanced, and a staff that understands how to pace a meal when the table is there to enjoy the night, not churn through courses. We timed it perfectly--sunset easing into evening, fire tables glowing, and that Coronado breeze that makes you linger. The room felt lively and upscale but not loud or chaotic. It's a great setting for a date or celebration because it looks impressive without feeling like it's trying too hard. The menu reads like a modern chophouse greatest hits, but the kitchen avoids the usual pitfalls. The opening plates were restrained and intentional: clean cuts, bright notes where you want them, and a smart balance of texture (crisps, acid, and richness playing together instead of competing). The skewers arrived with real grill character--caramelized edges, savory depth, and the kind of char that says the kitchen isn't afraid of heat. And then dessert: a tall, dramatic chocolate situation that felt like the steakhouse version of a victory lap--rich, layered, and indulgent, with ice cream that cut the density in the right way. It's the kind of dessert that makes you pause mid-conversation and do that quiet "okay... wow." Service deserves its own paragraph. Paige was outstanding--exactly the blend you hope for in a high-end room: friendly without being chatty, knowledgeable without reciting, and proactive without hovering. Water stayed filled, timing stayed smooth, and recommendations landed like they came from someone who actually eats the menu. Is it pricey? Absolutely and they have an excellent happy hour for the price sensitive. But this is one of those places where the atmosphere + execution + service justify it--especially if you're making a night of it.

Great 2-person promo--plenty of food, classic sides, and steak cooked right. Easy win for date night.
    Edrick G.

Classic steakhouse vibes done right. We went with the two-person promo, which turned out to be a solid value--generous portions, a perfectly cooked bone-in steak with a proper crust, and rich, indulgent sides that didn't feel like an afterthought. The gratin was creamy with a nicely browned top, and the vegetable dish balanced out the meal well. Service was polished without being stiff, and the ambiance felt upscale yet relaxed. Pricey overall, but the promo makes this a dependable Coronado spot for date night or a low-effort celebration.

Huge disappointment for our anniversary dinner. Don't get me wrong it's a lovely atmosphere and the service was good. But in absolutely no way is this place worth the money. I ordered Alaskan king crab legs for market price ($135) and I received the tiniest 1 & 1/2 crab legs I've ever seen. They were not Alaskan king crab size, they had hardly any meat in them what so ever. I don't mind paying more for good food but this experience was pitiful. If I ran this restaurant I would be embarrassed. I get we are in Coronado, so there's an island price markup to be expected but this felt like pure robbery. As a local who has lived on the island, this establishment is an absolute money trap.

    Brendan B.

You will not be disappointed in this restaurant a restaurant is very romantic. They have very excellent service. The food is out of this world the best seafood and steak in California!!!! The drinks that they make here are very outstanding. I highly recommend this place 100%. I will be definitely going back. They made the night very special for my wife and I.

Yesterday (Valentine's Day) we came to Stake, we've been here once before but after this experience Never ever again. It was a set menu for 165.00 per person, before I made the reservations I called and made sure about the same menu that was online and she said that was the menu for sure and it was assured everything on it would be available. Well to start we got seated in such a Horrible place I was facing the kitchen and the door every min was opening and closing and the smell was awful and it was freezing. I went to the host and asked to see if there was another table and when they moved us to the other side there was SIX tables that were empty, so why would you seat us at such a awful table! Then the server comes after 20 min finally takes our drinks and they come out they were awful. Then we finally tried to order and half the menu was "not available" our reservations were for 8:00pm. And he said no rib eye, no soup, no ahi tuna, no seared Japanese A5, no nothing So I sucked it up and said nothing and ordered what was available from the small menu. I was absolutely pissed cause I came for the ribeye. The steaks were supposed to come out with mashed potatoes and candied rainbow carrots. EVEN THE CARROTS they ran out of! Like what the heck kind of scam was this! Running out of carrots when you clearly know how many reservations you have is crazy and unacceptable. They gave me a tasteless burn steak with these NASTY dried potatoes and TWO limp asparagus! It was awful I have a picture! I put my fork into the mashed potatoes just to see and you'll see in the picture. What it was it was this dirt textured can't even call them potatoes. It was disgusting. I had one bite and almost choked on it cause it was so awful. I didnt eat the steak and we walked out of there paying 450.00$ for Two people completely unsatisfied, and hungry. The steak was severely overcooked, completely dry and burnt. For the price, this was unacceptable. I expect a chef to understand basic doneness levels. I would be embarrassed as a chef to send this out, I'm not sure how this left the kitchen. The steak was burnt to the point of being black on the outside and dry throughout. This level of overcooking is hard to overlook. I don't even understand the level of embarrassment I would be if I was a chef to send out a horrible, sad plate like that. So to sum it up not only I won't come but I'll make sure to put it on my social media all the pics I have of the food I received at Stake. Oh and the dessert the brown butter cake I almost threw up it was that horrible and I love dessert.

The service was excellent so that's all I'm going off of. The menu did look pretty fire though, so I'd be willing to give it another shot cause for all intents and purposes, the other people in the restaurant seemed to be really enjoying the food! But anyways... I'm a skillet cookie connoisseur. Any place that has a skillet cookie, I'm going there SOLEY to order it. If I ever get married, instead of having cake, my guests will be having skillet cookies for dessert instead. Some might say I love skillet cookies even more than Scottie Scheffler. My love for skillet cookies runs deeper than the Mariana trench and I've been to more than (at least) 11 restaurants to exclusively try them out. With that out of the way... I'm horrified to report this is the worst skillet cookie I've ever had in my entire life. It somehow felt overcooked, yet undercooked at the same time. It was also like they cooked it at an angle. Because it awkwardly occupied 3/4ths of the skillet. It had the consistency of a cake but the taste of a cookie? It was like they couldn't decide whether or not they wanted to make a cake or a cookie. So instead, they decided to half bake something that was in between. I couldn't believe it. It was also completely lacking in the chocolate chip department. All in all, this skillet cookie had a worse performance than Michael Jordan during his high school varsity tryouts. I'll admit it too... I completely lied to the waitress when she came over and asked me how the cookie was. Instead of telling her the truth, I gave her two thumbs up and said, " it's good!".... It was not good. It was terrible! I'm a coward.

Our server was sweet and somewhat attentive. She checked in right after bringing our food and then we didn't see her again until we were done eating and out of drinks. Before I get started on the hundreds of amazing things to say about this place, let's start off with one "annoying" thing. It was hard to find. There were absolutely no signs in the hotel pointing you to where the restaurants would be. We also asked several hotel staff members and got even more confused. Once we found the little strip of several restaurants, we accidentally walked right past it thinking it was apart of the NoBu restaurant. Now that I know where it is, I'll know exactly where to go. Let's talk about all the GOOD! The view was beautiful. There were lots of kids playing on the grass in front of the restaurant but the way they set up the place, it wasn't loud at all and cute to see. The staff members were on top of their game. Nothing went unnoticed! They all worked as a team. The Knowledge about the restaurant, the food, and the drinks was very impressive. Even if you couldn't decide, they would happily guide you to make the right choices. - I want to give a shoutout to Mark our waiter. He was an absolute delight. He was witty, knowledgeable, lead us in the right direction, and spoiled us for our birthday celebration dinner. He made the experience 10x better. About the food...I'm still thinking about the delicious food they served and it's been weeks since I was there. I want to put extra attention on the halibut ceviche, WOW! That needs to be a staple is you visit, it's a must try. Also please don't ever take this off the menu! I would solely travel out here just for the alone and buy 5 at a time (yes it was that good). The sauce they put it in makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Everything here is very unique and worth it. There wasn't one bad food item at all. Plus the drinks, were so smooth. If for whatever reason you wanted to alter your drink (like someone at my party did) they were happy to accommodate and then they also executed perfectly. It is a little bit on the pricier side, but once you experience the service, the extra care, and the delicious food you can confidently say it's worth it. I hope more people experience this place, they deserve more than five stars.

I personally enjoyed the pork sliders and the tuna poke, especially the flavored rice pilaf. Everything we ordered was good, but the venue and ambiance are what put this place at the top. The restaurant is huge and the waterfront views are definitely the highlight. If you can get a table by the water it's a really nice spot to relax. The only downside was the service was surprisingly slow. We waited about 10 minutes before getting seated even though most of the indoor dining room was empty. The outdoor patio is large too and it didn't seem very crowded either. The warm bread with butter was honestly one of my favorite parts of the meal. We ordered the tuna poke and it was just alright. The portion was smaller than I expected and nothing really stood out about it. I also got the rib eye dip sandwich and enjoyed it more. The bread was much softer than I expected but it worked really well still.
